WILD Miami Heat Trade Idea From NBA Insider! Terry Rozier For Malik Monk? Miami Heat Rumors

We have a wild Miami Heat trade idea on this edition of the Heat Report by Chad Sports. I am your host Nick Rolloff. It is no secret that Miami has been trying to trade Terry Rosier on his $26.6 million expiring contract, but they’ve been unable to find a package that makes sense. Well, Brett Seagull threw out a wild 14 trade idea. The derivative behind this trade is John and Kaminga being signed and traded to the Kings. Well, the Heat were roped in here in this four team deal and ultimately acquire Malik Monk from the Sacramento Kings and KJ Martin from the Utah Jazz. And it’s a very fascinating idea. It’s not the first time Miami has been linked to Malik Monk. I’m not so sure about this one. if I’m the Miami Heat. Yeah, Monk would be a really cool player, and we’ll dive more into him here in just a second, but there just feels like too much going out from Miami’s end in this four team deal. And I think let’s look at the simplified trade. Instead of having to look at all four teams, this is easier to see what do the Heat give up and what do they receive. Well, they get Malik Monk and KJ Martin. What they give up, Rosier, Highmith, and then here’s the part that I’m really focusing on is the 2029 first round pick. It’s I would love to get rid of Rosier, but Haywood in a first. Is that worth Malik Monk and KJ Martin? I’m unclear if that is. But before we dive more into this, make sure you are following me over on social media. Nick_rolloff is my handle when we talk more heat basketball over there. We create a larger engagement and have more coverage. So, go give me a follow today. The reason why I have an initial issue with this trade is that you’re giving up a first round pick in Haywood Highmith. Like the Kings are very open about wanting to get rid of Malik Monk. They signed him to a big contract a year or two ago and they’re already trying to move off of him apparently to clear the way for Russell Westbrook. Why? I don’t know, but it is what it is. Highmith is a very valuable player and attaching him plus a first round pick swap losing draft trade flexibility in the future. Is Malik Monk worth all that? Probably not. And if your main takeaway is, well, we’re getting rid of Rosir. We’re getting Malik Monk in return. What an upgrade. Be honest, I would rather let Rosier expire. Like that $26.6 6 million coming off the books could be very valuable for Miami next off season when they’re trying to sign potential free agents or making some trades where they can take in more salary than they’re sending out. It just gives them so much flexibility. I feel like that’s the word of the day here on this show, flexibility. And it would be ruined if you made this trade for Malik Monk giving up a first round pick swap in 2029. High Smith and Terara Rosier. Well, what say you? Pin comment. Before we move on any further, I want to get your thoughts. Would you make that trade for a Monk and KJ Martin? Type Y for yes, type N for no. Get down in the comments sections and let me know your thoughts. I’ll play devil’s advocate as it seems pretty clear that I am not in favor of this deal. The two benefits you have here with this deal is that it solves your money issue for this season. You get on the luxury tax, your $1.4 $4 million above the tax right now. We know Miami is trying to get underneath that by the time the regular season ends. Will you save 5.4 mil, which would get you $4 million under the tax and would allow you to sign another vetin player before getting above the tax too, which is pretty solid as well. But you don’t really have flexibility of the future. Yeah, Malik Monk would be a really good jolt of energy off the bench in his offensive ability, but you just don’t have the ability to throw money out as much as you do in the future because of Malik Monk’s contract. I mean, he’s not making a ton of money. I would label 18, 20, and 21 over the next three years, respectively, as a pretty solid number for Malik Monk due to what he can bring to the table offensively. but it’s a fully guaranteed contract and it just eats into the cap space that you’re projected to have in the 2026 NBA off season. Now, I will then talk positive about Malik Monk right now because what he would bring to the table for the Miami Heat is very good offensive ability and that is very welcomed in Miami. And I will always say this when talking about Malik Monk. It is just surprising to me at his playmaking ability because when I’m thinking about Malik Monk, I’m thinking about a volume scorer that plays the two guard, but he’s almost transitioning to a point guard type of role. And you saw him play that quite a bit after De’aran Fox was traded to the King or to the Spurs, excuse me, this past trade deadline. Mike Monk is an extremely offensively talented player. And we know Miami in the last five years, four of them. They’ve been bottom 10 in the NBA and offensive rating and points per game. The one time they were in the top half, they were barely in the top half, but they were the one seed in the Eastern Conference during the 2021 2022 season. Offense has been a major issue for the Heat in the regular season over the past five years, which is why they have not finished as high in the Eastern Conference standings as it would have probably been expected from them over the past four or five years. Malik Monk would certainly help solve some of that offensive issues that you’ve seen Miami been plagued with. More conversation coming here in a second. But make sure you are subscribed to the channel for daily Miami Heat content. Whether it’s trade rumors, news, we’ll have you covered on everything in between. And like I said, it is daily. So make sure you join the channel. Now Malik Monk’s offensive metrics are really, really solid, man. When you look at the offensive level, defense and not so much, but offense is really, really good. When you look at his shooting quality by crafted NBA, 79th percentile, his load, which is a metric that combines a bunch of different stats about creating for others, your usage rates in the 92nd percentile. He creates at a really high level, too. 91st percentile, which is something that would be very welcomed in Miami for his ability to get to his own spots and score, get to the rim and score, but as well as collapse the defense and create for teammates on the perimeter, which you see he can do pretty well. 87th percentile on passer rating. My only hesitancy in adding Malik Monk to this roster is I just don’t see the need for it after you made that trade with the Jazz and Clippers to get Norman Powell. And this is not me saying that those two play in a very similar style because they don’t. Malik Monk is much more on ball and a better creator as compared to Norman Powell is more of a offball mover, transition guy, shooter from the perimeter. one of the best efficient shooters from beyond the arc. But when you think of what Miami has on this 14man roster right now, it’s hard to envision Monk’s fit. Yeah, you can take Highmith and Rosier off that bench, but what happens to Yovic’s role off the bench? What happens to DaVon Mitchell, Casper Yakonis? you’re just running out of room for some of these ball handlers and playmakers that you want to see have the ball in their hands more and more this upcoming year. And then that doesn’t even mention the defensive concerns. Tyler Herro and Malik Monk are in the same tier defensively in my opinion, which is not a good tier. I think Norman Powell is just very slightly, and I mean very slightly, better than the two of them defensively. So, your top three guards, Powell, Monk, and Hero, would be three offensively minded below average defenders. I don’t know if that’s the biggest biggest success to winning. Yeah, you’d still have DaVon Mitchell in that room, but if that’s your only good backcourt defender, I don’t really think that’s a good thing. Links in description and comments of today’s video. To kind of round out the conversation with Malik Monk, he would be a solid addition. Do I think it’s a needle mover? No. But it would make Miami a better offensive team. I just keep on coming back to the fact the defense in the back court would be a major concern. You’re losing a first round pick that you can trade in the future by sending out a swap. And you lose the flexibility financially in free agency the next couple of years by taking on Monk at 20 million next year and $21 million potentially with that player option the following year. Like the point is this. I want to trade Terara Rosier and Monk would be a severe upgrade, but I am not attaching picks to Tara Rosier. I’m not doing it. You can convince me on one second round pick, but multiple second rounders or a first round pick or swap? Absolutely not. And it seems like the Miami Heat agree with this notion as well because when we’ve seen a news story come across the timeline in such a big way over the last 48 hours about a trade between Miami and Washington revolving Marcus Smart and Rosier that didn’t happen and I saw heat fans freaking out and I wanted to touch on it just slightly here because Mark Stein said that Miami explored fe the possibility of trading away Rosier which is no shock. We know that is a goal of theirs. While his partner Jake Fischer says Miami weighed a Rosier for Marcus Smart swap, but they couldn’t reach an organizational consensus on whether a trade was a clear upgrade for Miami. And that is where I think the disconnect happened because either Fischer didn’t know the whole picture or he is just withholding information. The problem isn’t the player or the contracts because Marcus Smart would be very much more of an upgrade over Rosier financially and as a leader. The problem that Miami was facing is the fact that they didn’t know if adding a draft pick was worth it as a clear upgrade. And Anthony Chiang of the Herald confirmed that by reporting that. But the truth is, you didn’t need to be an NBA insider or Anony’s report to know that because you would get underneath the luxury tax. You’d get a better player probably in Marcus Smart. There’s no question it would be worth it for Miami. The issue is how many picks was Washington asking for from the Heat to get that trade done. If it was one second round pick, I would give it a 5050 on if I would do it. If it was a swap of a first round pick or multiple second round picks, I’m in the firm. No, I’m not doing that. But be the GM for me. Would you have done Tara Rosier and one second round pick for Marcus Smart? Type T for trade or type P for pass? Round out the show right now, but I want to get your thoughts before we did. Even though that trade would have gotten them underneath the luxury tax, it would have saved them about $5 million just like that trade that we showed earlier with Malik Monk would have done. I think they made the smart decision because I am not sinking more draft assets into Terry Rosier. You trade a first round pick for him a couple years ago. That has been a disaster. I am not trading a first round pick and then trading more picks to get rid of them. That is what bad basketball teams do. just let his contract expire. If you can’t find a package, I know Miami wants to get under the luxury tax. There’s other moves they can make by trading a highmith, by trading a Fonteo if they need to during the season and taking $1.5 million less salary in return. It doesn’t have to be Rosier Wiggins. It could be another player making eight, seven, six million and you just take back three, four million. Like there’s different ways you can get under the luxury tax. So, if you have to attach picks to Rosier and it’s a lot and it’s not a clear upgrade like a Nicola Vuch or something like that, I’m not trading second round picks alongside Rosier. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. Appreciate everybody who watched this entire episode of the Heat Report. If you are still watching and are not subscribed, clearly what we’re doing. Miami Heat latest trade rumors are gaining traction: Terry Rozier and Haywood Highsmith, plus a 2029 first-round pick swap, for Malik Monk and KJ Martin could be a viable option according to @chatsports host Nic Rohloff. This Miami Heat trade idea would shake up the roster and bring explosive scoring in Monk, who just signed a $78M contract with the Kings. Heat fans are buzzing about the fit, the Heat salary cap impact, and whether Pat Riley is ready to move on from Rozier. Monk’s scoring and KJ Martin’s athleticism could thrive under Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. Meanwhile, Rozier gives the Kings a seasoned guard to help in the West. Is this the right move for the Heat’s backcourt? Would this Malik Monk trade make Miami a legit contender?

  1. Monk is not big enough of an upgrade. We already have a ton of B- level players. We need to consolidate multiple players into a star

  2. I like Monk’s game. Relatively flashy passer, dunks the holy hell out of the ball.

I think he would be fun with our bigs.

If we were going to trade for him, i would want it expanded to include Devin Carter or Keegan Murray though, as I prefer them.

  3. Monk has a poor shooting percentage especially from 3 32.5%. That’s a huge metric to determine someone’s offensive impact. Hard pass considering we have a million guards already

  4. Miami heat if your reading this please trade terry a 2027 second round pick for vucevic, then sign precious because we need size! We have guards and wings we need size
