Spurs Khris Middleton Signing Off Buyout?

Spurs Khris Middleton Signing Off Buyout?

What’s going on everyone? So, according to Sam Amo, the Washington Wizards uh don’t view a Chris Middleton as well as a CJ McCollum as far as long-term pieces. Obviously, they’re getting up there in age. They don’t view them in any way as like foundation pieces or anything like that. So, uh there is this possibility and potential that they could look to buy out either, maybe potentially both depending on what they have to do. You’re only allowed certain amount of money. Um but it’s players that you should keep an eye on, right? And CJ, I don’t think really makes any sense. I mean, you could argue him as like a development guy, like not the development guy himself, but a guy that can be a mentor and kind of help shape and mold. I mean, last like 15 years, the guy’s averaged 20 points a game. The he’s only had two years his entire career where he hasn’t put up at least 20 points a game on average, and that was his first two years in the league. So, guy can score with the best of them. He’d be great. You could argue, you know, your 15th spot, maybe bring him in, but Chris Middleton is the guy that I think actually makes more sense for this team on several fronts, right? He’s a guy that has the size to slot in two, three, um, even play the the four on occasion if you’re kind of going a little smaller. Um, but I think he brings a lot to this team beyond oncourt production. I mean, talk about a guy that was 12 points, four rebounds, four assists on 48% from the floor. So, a guy that I do still think can still play. There are questions and concerns about his health. That’s the issue. He just hasn’t been very healthy. But you wouldn’t be looking for him to be one of your kind of top end guys. You’d be looking for him to be, you know, a rotation piece, a guy that can kind of fill in and play a role. But you could also look to him kind of be more of a mentor role. I think he’s a guy that could be very helpful for guys from, you know, Dylan Harper, Stefon Castle to even like a Carter Bryant uh type of player, right? Any of those like twos, three guys that can slot in two through three for you. I think he could be somebody that could be very valuable to this team to just be a mentor to kind of help and and grow and develop and see things. He’s a championship winner, right? So now you have him and Harrison Barnes, two guys that played major roles on their championship run. Uh two guys that kind of have experience and understand each other. And look how good Harrison Barnes was for the Spurs last year. I mean, even Chris Paul, it’s good to have kind of those veteran pieces around these young guys. You’re so young, right? And it’s like, who are you going to bring in that’s better than Chris Middleton as your 15th guy on a on a vet minimum deal, right? like question is does Chris Middle would Chris Middleton be open to something like that or would he want to go to a title contender? It also depends on when he’s bought out because if he’s bought out in the off season, then I do think he’ll probably want to go to a title contender. But again, because of the the cap implications, it’s very possible unless he’s take willing to take like a huge discount. Um, very possible he doesn’t get bought out till closer to the, you know, trade deadline or post trade deadline whenever all the players get bought out, which then at that point you’d kind of only have him for like half a season. But again, I think he’s a guy that could be an impact, right? And if you wait till that point, if you’re close, right, let’s say you’re a team that’s like, “Hey, we’re, you know, a game back from a playoff spot or something like that or you’re you’re a game ahead in a playoff spot, Chris Middleton’s like I think is a guy that can potentially come in maybe take you take you to that next level or solidify the spot that you’re in um depending on where you’re at, right?” So, I think Chris Middleton, whether it’s in the offseason or during the the season, you know, post trade deadline, I think regardless, he’d be a great pickup for a team like the San Antonio Spurs to just bring veteran leadership, a guy that knows what it takes to win, that has been there, done that, right, that, you know, has had a great relationship with Giannis. It could also maybe help with the Giannis trade, right? if the Spurs do end up looking to to trade for Giannis or if Giannis becomes available at any point during the um during the season or even next off seasonason if you already have Chris Middleton on the the roster, maybe you can kind of be like, “Hey, we’ll resign your buddy too and then you guys can reunite here, right?” It could be something that that develops that could maybe even kind of give you that nod for a Giannis on Takmpo. um if that’s something that the Spurs even want to do and if Giannis actually ever, you know, requests to trade and ask out. But even without the Giannis element to it, I still think Chris Middleton’s a guy that could be very helpful, right? He’s not a guy that you’re going to be looking to sign long term. I mean, he’s going to be 34 literally in a couple weeks. So, he’s not a guy that, you know, you you’re looking to give a fouryear, $20 million, right? It’s a guy you’re bringing in vet minimum deal if it works out. May maybe give him a slight bump or something to kind of incentivize him to stick around, but it’s not a guy even I’d give 10 million a year or two, right? Just at this stage, especially for a team like Spurs, maybe if they were, you know, a, you know, a piece or two away from a title contender or something like that, then maybe you could make the argument. But I think for this young team, I look at Chris Middleton as a guy that can kind of help shape and mold this team, be good to help elevate some of our young guys, but also be a guy that can actually play, be a guy that can go out there and give you, you know, 13 a night on on good efficiency still, right? And so if if you look at kind of his stats and and what he provided last season, right? He only played uh between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Washington Wizards, which he was much better with Milwaukee, by the way, than he was at Washington. But it makes sense. You got Giannis, you had several guys that kind of can can take away and distract, you know, opposing defenses, kind of collapse defenses, stuff like that, and just the attention getters um that, you know, Washington just doesn’t have. But team like the Spurs, we have Darren Fox, Victor Womenyama, guys like that. You know, I do think that Chris Middleton would have just much better quality shots than he did in Washington. Just something to keep in mind. But, you know, to for the season, 37 games played again goes into the injury concerns. 23 minutes per game, 9.1 field goal attempts per game, shot 47 1.5% from the floor. Uh he shot uh 36.1% total from three-point range on 3.6 attempts. Now, this is because he shot 27.7% from three-point range with Washington on 3.4 attempts. That was a 14game sample size, but still, that’s what really kind of dropped him down. But with the Bucks, he shot on 3.7 attempts, uh, 41% or 40.7% if you want to be exact. Right? So again, on a team with Giannis and guys that are kind of being the distractions, being the deterrent compared to a team like the um the Washington Wizards, it just don’t have that. So I do think a team like the Spurs could make things easier for Chris Middleton. Um but two-point range overall from the floor was 55% on 5.5 attempts. He was 58.4% with the Bucks, 49.4%, 4%. So just under 50% um with the Washington Wizards. EFG overall of 54.6%. He was almost 60% uh with the Milwaukee Bucks, 46.4% with the Washington Wizards. Free throw shooting uh 85.7% um from rebounds. He was uh 3.7 rebounds each team across the board. So 3.7 total and then 3.7 3.7 for both Milwaukee and Washington. So very, you know, a guy that can help you rebound. Um assist 4.1 assists. He was 4.4 with Milwaukee, 3.4 with Washington. Again, higher in talent in Milwaukee with like guys like Giannis compared to Washington. Um where, you know, you just don’t have that. Um but he averaged a steal. Um he did average more steals with Washington than he did with Milwaukee. 1.3 compared to 7. Um half a block and 12 points per game. So again, a guy that I do think can still come in, saw it in, play a role, right? A guy that can, you know, score buckets and and just do multiple things for you out there on the basketball court. I don’t hate it, right? Again, who are you who else are you bringing in with your 15th roster spot? But let me know your thoughts and opinions down in the comments. The San Antonio Spurs have an open roster spot still, and the Washington Wizards are looking to potientially buy out Khris Middleton. Middleton could really help Spurs develop young players along with being a quality playable Vet in the rotation.

  1. I am pretty sure that the Spurs are keeping available the last spot of the roster to take advantage of such event….
