Mikal Bridges signs four-year, $150 million extension with the Knicks
The next kind of significant
piece of business done on Thursday agreeing to an
extension with Mikhail Bridges less than the max. And I was
told that the number that they agreed to for years, 150 million leaving 6 million on the table was important because it does
give the Nick some Financial flexibility. Moving forward in
this second apron era of the NBA where every dollar
counts. So you might scoff at a
player signing on 150 million dollar
contract and leaving six. Even on the table, might scoff at that as being
significant but it is in this case because the next can stay
under that second apron it allows them to use tools to pursue free agents and
ways to make trades that they wouldn’t have if they were above
the second apron. So not insignificant here for Bridges. I was told that, that was an
important part of getting the deal done here for both
sides Bridges. Source told us
wants to be here and wants to win, and
that was obviously part of the motivation to get
this. All done, Nick’s trading five,
first-round picks to acquire Bridges from Brooklyn last year.
So either had to extend him or you
had to include them in a trade that got you something
significant back. Now, their Bridges had to has agreed to
this extension. He is not eligible to be treated for the
next six months Knicks. Also have another roster spot that
they can feel if they want to. They remain interested in Ben
Simmons interested in Landry shamit, it’ll be interesting to
see which way. They, they go. What that last roster spot but
you know that Mikhail Bridges spot on this. Nick team is
secure for several years to come.
