The Joel Embiid Situation Just Got WORSE! | Ben Simmons SIGNING With Celtics? LOL
The 76ers off season continues without any real update around Joel Embiid, but an intriguing comment from a Sixers reporter sent the fan base into a frenzy. And today we’re going to talk about whether or not the end is actually nearing for Joel Embiid. And with the Sixers having another roster spot open now, should they do the improbable and bring back the former number one overall pick? I am going to give my rant in response to the comments I’m seeing out there. We’ll break it all down, but welcome in to Philly Take with RB. Now, if you are seeing or watching this right now, I am currently on a vacation, but I wanted to throw this out there and not have it pass me by until I came back. So, this was very interesting and I just want to give my thoughts on it. So, we’re going to dive right in to the comments that were made by Keith Pompei over on SiriusXM NBA radio about Joel Embiid’s future. And again, this has nothing to do with Keith or his beliefs or thoughts. I’m just going to react to what he said and give my overall takes after what I have been seeing. So, here’s what Keith said about Joel Embiid. Well, may know that the end is near and this is just me saying and it’s kind of like explaining to people what he’s been going through because rarely do you have a guy tell you how much pain and how much they’re going through. The thing I took from it was no matter who is there, the culture is the same. And I feel like Joel Embiid knows that it may not be this season, but the end is nearing and he maybe he can’t he feels as though he can’t play to the level he used to. I could be wrong. He could come out and have another MVP season, but that was my takeaways and questioning why did you come out with this article at this particular time. So, I think there’s a couple interesting things in there from different viewpoints, and I’m just going to break it down in terms of what I think, but give me your thoughts down below. Do you think Joel Embiid can ever return to MVP form or at least be like a 28 to 30 point per game? Can he be that dominant force? Can he be a secondary option? Is he done altogether? What do you think? Now, in terms of the article, right, that he was referencing put out there. Here’s what I actually think happened, right? Because we talked about it in one of our videos and all that, and I heard some other people interviewing this guy. I didn’t really watch those interviews, but obviously this author, right, who is not well known before this piece over at ESPN, is either friends with Joel Embiid or maybe has a deeper connection with him or maybe they are from the same town. I’m not exactly sure. But for someone like myself who has at least been around Joel Embiid once or twice before, obviously I haven’t had like a full convo with him, but I’ve seen how he acts and he is very reserved. Like I understand this whole notion of why people think he’s not a good vocal leader. He admitted that in this article. Like he said, I like to lead by example. I’m not really that much of a vocal leader. I’ve gotten better. I’ve gotten better in improving certain things and trying to work on it. But he talked about his family and humble beginnings and not trusting people and how he’s had a lot of messed up things happen to him. And that’s why he kind of keeps to himself. And when I think about all that, you know, for Joel to be this open with someone like this, he obviously has a deeper like interpersonal connection with them. But that being said, I think the main reason that Joel Embiid came out here and said all this stuff, and Keith alluded to this, saying the culture is the same no matter who’s here. I think Joel Embiid has heard all of this noise the last year and a half and is kind of sick and tired of being a guy getting thrown under the water for everything. Now, again, I’m going to step back and say what I always say. He can’t be excused for everything. He absolutely has some fault in the things that have happened over the years, but I don’t think he’s the main person to blame. And when you think about everything he’s had to go through, like, please, I challenge you to drop another athlete in the comments that has been with an organization as long as Joel has been with the Sixers and has had to go through as much turmoil as Joel has had to go through with the Sixers. Like, please let me know someone that has had to go through the same types of things. And in this current age of digital media and the way people act online, they did the same thing with Giannis and Jokic and a bunch of others. Until you win, they’re going to drag you through the mud. And when you do win, they’re going to act like they were on your side the whole time and you’re an instant great and all this type of stuff. So, I just think Joel Embiid used this as a medium of kind of saying like, “Yo, I understand you guys are mad with me, but I didn’t mean to get hurt.” You know, before that first initial injury, like we talk about December of 2023, we were streaming every game. I don’t think some people remember or realize Joel Embiid was having not only one of the greatest months in NBA history. He was averaging 40 points per game, but he was having one of the best seasons ever. I remember Pat Bev saying it was the greatest season in NBA history to that point on his podcast when he was with the Sixers and around Joel Embiid. But nonetheless, after that injury, Joel sacrificed his body, came back earlier than he should have, averaged 33 a game in the playoffs against the Knicks, still lost, was playing on one leg, you know, has tried to go through these different things, and even way before that with the teammates acting like divas and the GM talking about him on a burner account and and I can go down the list for hours and hours. Like he said, it should be a documentary one day. I’m trying my best. It’s not just me, you Now, I’ve had to go through all these different things even more beneath the surface that you guys and girls don’t know about. So, really, that’s what I think this was. Now, does he think the end is near? Possibly. Maybe he’s like, you know what? If I come out this year and I’m not healthy, then maybe I just medically retire and I take the money I have and I ride off into the sunset. You know, do I want that to happen? No. Do I want more than anything Joel to come back and play like an MVP? Yes. Maybe the end is near for his MVP days, but with how the league is trending, and we said this even before he had that injury, like how the Sixers play, you know, can’t just be predicated on a big man in the middle averaging, you know, 30, 40 touches a game. It may not work in the playoffs. So, I think the Sixers are getting younger, quicker, and athletic. Maybe Joel can be that secondary option a as a big man who focuses more on facilitation and defense and things like that. But I do think if he goes this year and his knee’s not healthy, like they’re in a bad situation. And it goes back to last year when I said they made a mistake giving him that contract extension, he has put in the blood, sweat, and tears for this organization. I think you saw that frustration even in the Marcus Hayes thing last year, right? He said, “I’ve done too much for this effing city to be treated like this.” But the Sixers gave him a contract extension. And if you look at it, I mean, four more years, 55 million this year, then 58, 62, 67 on a player option, which he will accept. So, four years of this, you know, and it’s just bad business by the Sixers, but when we look at his numbers, yeah, like I don’t know if he can get back to 34, 33 points a game, but maybe they don’t need him to play like that. Nonetheless, when Keith says the end is near, I don’t think he believes he’s going to retire tomorrow. But I think he does see like where he’s at and he’s frustrated with hearing all of this noise. Again, some of it is warranted, but you know, he just he he wants people to know like it’s not just me. Like I’ve gone through thick and thin with this team and I’m still trying to make my way back. So that’s how I took it. Even in that piece when he said, you know, there’s no timeline, like essentially when I feel good, I’ll be back. And hearing Daryl my say, oh well, you know, fans aren’t going to believe us till he’s out there at training camp at preseason. Yeah, you’re damn right. And the fans are already pissed off, so how do you think you’re going to sell tickets this year when you couldn’t sell them last year? So anyway, it’ll be interesting to see what happens. But everything depends on his knee and that health. That’s where I’m at. That’s how I feel about it. Give me your thoughts down below. And the other Sixer, aka former Sixer that we have to talk about is Ben Simmons. We put this graphic out on our Philly take social pages. Be sure to follow us over there on X and Instagram. And we said who should take the final spot, right? We expect Grimes to eventually resign, whatever the terms are. But the Sixers need more forward help. They they still need a starter. Chris Buchet, Thomas Bryant, Precious Achua, Ben Simmons, Trey Lyles. Those are some of the forwards and big men on the market. And I said in my last video, I think Precious Achua or Chris Buché since they’re Nick Nurse guys could be potential signes. I don’t think anybody here really moves the needle. Maybe Aua could be like that, you know, versatile defending piece, but still can’t really shoot that well. And Trey Lyles is iffy. So anyway, all these guys were just named on this graphic. And Sixer fans, and I feel like I’ve been through the same convo for 5 years now, but Sixer fans, or a lot of them who claim to be Sixer fans, want Ben Simmons back on the Sixers because he’s a forward, because they need a power forward. And then we got this report from Brian Winhorse, who says, “The Ben Simmons sweep stakes are heating up. He’s expected to make a decision on where he’ll be taking his talent in the next week. He’s probably going to make a choice. Kings, Suns, Knicks, and Celtics have all been connected.” And the Knicks and Celtics are heating up. And to that I say, Boston, please take Ben Simmons. Number one, it would be absolutely comical having George Nyang and Ben Simmons on the same team after Niang talked all that crap about him. But number two, Ben Simmons will make your team worse. I don’t know how many other times I have to say this. And I remember three years ago on this show as Nets fans were swarming the comments and all telling them straight up as I was being called a hater. He’s just he doesn’t have it. He’s not he’s not invested. He’s not interested. He doesn’t care. And if you look at his numbers the last several years like he’s just not a good player. The guy averages about five six points a game. You know, gives you five rebounds and six assists. Like and he won’t shoot a three. hasn’t in years after promising he would. He’s just not that good of a player and I predicted he would be out of the league by 30. He is 29. He’s made his money. Shout it to him. But he also royally screwed the Sixers. So bringing him back makes absolutely no sense. He’s not a good fit. He’s also slow and injuryprone now. Not what he used to be on the defensive side. There’s no reason to bring this guy back. I can say it until I’m blew in the face. Boston, please take him. New York, please take him. Oh, I mean, it would be absolutely hysterical to watch. And could you imagine though if Ben Simmons did come back and give a revenge game to the Sixers? I would eat all of my words. But there’s just no way I can see it happening. I just find it funny that we’re in the year 2025 and we’re still talking about Ben Simmons sweep stakes. I mean, come on. Let’s get real here. It’s not happening. And don’t bring him anywhere near Philly. He’s not going to help this team. Simple as that. So, those are all my thoughts. Give me yours down in the comments section. Who do you want with the final roster spot? Do you think the end is near for Joel Embiid? Appreciate everybody for tapping in. Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe. And as always, I will catch you on the next one. Peace.
The Sixers offseason has had a lot of twists and turns, but this one surely opened some eyes. In a recent radio appearance, a Sixers reporter claimed that Joel Embiid might think the “end is near.” Is it possible that this harsh truth could become a reality this upcoming season? In other news, the Ben Simmons sweepstakes are somehow in full effect… and amongst the teams interested are the Celtics and Knicks (LOL). Some Sixers fans want to see Ben Simmons back in Philly, and to that RB says heck no. Today, we discuss it all!

I think it’s possible for Embiid to have another mvp season
His biggest fault was Olympics.. im team joel too but he shouldn't have played.
I get Embid been through hell and back….to me, my problem is his decision making off-season….like playing in the Olympics when you not fully recovered I think that decision to me was the icing on the cake….this decision that he is gonna take his time is the right decision…he should have made that decision last off-season…I appreciate Embid and hope to see him this season….
The meniscus is a cushion of the knee
Ben would be a nice play maker and defender/ rebounder also a great point forward
I don't want to think joel's time is up
Embiid cant play until he gets a meniscus transplant. The organization has failed him
Morey keeps that spot open for $$ purposes smh
The day Joel is off this fking team is when this organization will be better. The god damn drama with this guy. Joel just fking be a man for once and ask for a trade so we can end this
Who’s dumb enough to pick up Simmons at this point?
Wahhhhhh Wahhhhh Wahhhhh, is all I hear from Joel Embiid. Remember when he missed playoff games, because he had diarhea and was hanging out all night with Trevor Noah ???? He's never been the guy.
I suspect the main issue is not his knee but his mental health.
Peace
Embum should just retire. He should just give some of his salary back.
It’s just hard man I wanna see Joel succeed here in Philly it’s sad what he has to go through he deserves better… 😢
Hope he can have a strong season this season 🙏😞
Joel is still MVP caliber he just needs to load manage like Kawhi
That article PROVES that our entire front office is incompetent, up to and including ownership. Thank god these clowns also own the Commanders, at least we have football in this city
Should of got rid of Embiid and James Harden that same year ❤ PG has felt off the cliff 😢😢
seeing Maxey and VJ together will be exciting and give some hope for the near future…but lets be honest…Embiid and PG will always be expensive dead weight and will hold this franchise down for a while…..
They need to get rid of Joel Embiid. I am sick of tried of him keeps getting injured every year.
"might"…. "can"….. "potential"…….. may as well say IDK WTF 😂
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE stop with the Simmons 💩
It’s time for Embiid to go
I'm Timothy McNeil. Why didn't the sixers draft that center out of Duke University?
I feel that maybe jojos mental health is the main factor & im not judging him just saying, the franchise has failed him
I want them to bring back Ben Simmons
Embiid is done and that surgery is not going to correct the issue
If Joel can come back, that’s fine. I don’t think he’ll be anywhere near what he was. But this guy is my favorite player of all time and in my opinion, I think it’s best for himself to just retire. If he comes back and averages 23 and 10 and we make a deep run, I guess that would shut everyone up. But the chances of that happening are slim to none. He has NEVER played a full season without a major injury.
Only chance and reason why Ben may be worth a flyer is because the last 5 years he has had his money guaranteed … if he wants another contract than he's gonna have to play well this year . Also it's a lot different having him on your roster taking up a large part of the cap vs taking up no cap as a vet min . That being said don't think Sixers should take him but do think he's worth a team just giving a roster spot to … nothing is expected of the guy from the 15th roster spot .. or a guy getting paid the minimum .. if he sucks than u just cut him loose .. anyways … that's just my take and from a personal level I do hope he can find somewhere where he can be happy and contribute bc without getting paid the big bucks the expectation won't be there on him and clearly he has struggled with expectations after his first 4 years in the league
We brought back Lowery and Eric Gordon, might as well bring back Ben Simmons 😂.
The End is the End.
Kinda mad i even clicked this. I don't need any more credence going toward this Pompey content generation. There's no update he's always seeking to be first with "realistic" Embiid News. Next
It’s Obama’s fault
Chris Boucher or precious achiuwa is a sixers type of signing lol not good not bad just “eh”
Die hard sixers fan since 82 all this organization and philadelphia media ever does is run good player out of town i cant stand philly media or 75% of so called fans its disgusting you dont even deserve a player like embid or jaylen hurts in this city i hope they both leave !
Embiid is def a #2 option at this point. i think he's going to see how this szn goes and if it's not good play his last couple yrs out for a contender or retire
The Sensational Headline is some BullShit. Do better! Unnecessary.
Man I love and hate being a fan of this team all at the same time. Keep up the great content RB, wish we had more positive things to cover at this point in time.
Pels dealing with it
If Ben Simmons no longer has a back injury, I think the Sixers should take him back immediately. Play him at center..Point Center. All his problems are from injury.
Embiid will not leave all that money on the table…hahaha no way!
no player has ever been able up to do what simmons did for the 76ers, while embiid was injured. He carried the team when others couldn't.
paul george,
harden
maxey,
none of them could do it, simmons did it with ease.
He has made every team better since leaving the 76ers, in terms of record with him oppose to without him.
He made the nets too good to even be a lottery team with the help of cam johnson, which they had to start trading players to reduce wins, which worked.
He made the clippers better, as they went on a huge winning spree the moment him and bogi were signed.
It's complete nonsense to suggest he doesn't make a team better, he always has and always will.
The only thing you can say that is true is the fact after two back surgeries and all that has happened, he is not the level of player he was for 4 years straight which was beyond elite.
It's that simple, someone is going to get a steal for a vet minimum, when his worth is so much more, not to mention, the need of players like him in this league are glaringly obviously. from low usage, to smart IQ, to not caring about the outside shot, to the unselfish plays, the passing, the handle, the defense.
At least some philly fans are intelligent to see the basketball picture and not the emotional picture. well done to those people!
