BREAKING: Knicks Make MASSIVE Move…
We have breaking news as the New York Knicks just made a massive move that has been at the top of their list all off season long and now it is done and this will have a huge implication on the future of Nick’s trades as well which confirms everything surrounding Giannis on top of it all and we’re going to break everything down. What’s up guys? Welcome back to Nick’s Digest. It’s Chris here. We’re going to jump right into things as always. If you guys are part of that 63% that’s not subscribed to Nicks Digest. Make sure to subscribe because we got daily Knicks updates. We got the newest updates on the Knicks whenever they come out. We always drop a video within 20 to 30 minutes of the most recent update. And we have a big one because this man right here is not going anywhere for a long time. It is done. It is confirmed. As Shams Chirania revealed, the New York Knicks forward Male Bridges has agreed to a contract extension with the franchise. According to his agents on XL Sports Management, the new deal includes a player option for the 2029 2030 season and a trade kicker. Bridges takes a slight discount from his max contract extension number at $156 million in order to help the Knicks have flexibility and continue building their roster and adding pieces to the Eastern Conference’s biggest championship contender going into next year. Bridges last season averaged 17.6 6 points per game, three rebounds, and nearly four assists while getting a steal per night. He shot 42% on corner threes while shooting 35% on threes, including heaves, which, you know, most players don’t take because it’ll ruin their percentages a little bit. Male also shot 50% from the field. And once the playoffs began, he really showed out. He went back to his old male Bridges self, being an elite defender in the process, putting up 15.6 points, four and a half rebounds, and three assists a night, getting nearly two steals, and blocking a shot per night. male shot 45% from the field and he didn’t shoot too well from three in fairness, but male was awesome and such a big positive for the Knicks in the playoffs. He made two of the biggest playoff moments in back-to-back games when he made two great defensive stops against the Boston Celtics to give the Knicks the first two games in Boston in that series, which ultimately led to the Knicks making the conference finals for the first time since the year 2000. male has been a positive for the Knicks. And the Knicks decided, you know what, we traded for him 13 months ago. Let’s go out there and make sure he stays a part of this team. An Eastern Conference executive recently said on Male Bridges, when you pay for that much, when you pay that much for a guy like Male, you ensure that you want him there for the long haul. Male is now not going anywhere. And that really really is hammered home now as male cannot be traded for 6 months. And after that, there is a trade kicker on his deal as well. So his salary will increase by 15% if he gets traded. So that’ll also have an impact on things. So basically it makes it harder to trade male Bridges. And in return, Male also is a player option in that 2029 2030 year. And right now the Knicks do not have anyone in 2029 who will be under contract if Male opts out. Now this lines up perfectly with Jaylen Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns as well and OAN. So, the Knicks core all has similar contract expiration dates. So, the Knicks have launched things up well for themselves going forwards in the future. And on top of that, we just we see what he’s been able to do in the last 20 games of the regular season. We saw Michael start to break out, putting up 19 points per game, playing 34.6 minutes. A lot of that is based off the fact that he played literally 6 seconds of game 82 against the Brooklyn Nets before instantly fouling and subbing himself out so he could keep his streak yelling of never missing a game and at the same time continuing to do his thing. But he played excellent basketball shooting 37.5% from the field 54% or 37.5% from three, 54% from the field, 92% from the free throw line, getting a 20 uh 62.8% true shooting percentage as well. Male has been awesome for the Knicks. So seeing this happen is absolutely excellent news and male wanted it to happen. Now fans are wondering saying this isn’t a pay cut but the $6 million as Sleeper mentions is over those four years and it’ll help. It’ll add up down the line and it does help with the Knicks aprons a lot. And the thing was it mentioned it’s not going to help with the Mitchell Robinson extension and that’s where things get interesting here. Mitchell Robinson now is theoretically next up for a contract extension, but there’s a lot of discussion around now that this deal is made that the Mitch Rob the Mitchell Robinson deal will not be made and that the Knicks could look to trade Mitchell Robinson at some point or just ultimately opt to not resigning him over next off season. That’s the thing we have to look at here when it pertains to Mitch. The Knicks aren’t going to trade him over the season for someone worse. At the end of the day, they know that they’re better when Mitch is on the floor and that matters to the Knicks. On top of that, they also understand how vital Mitch is to this team. He’s not very replaceable, and they’re not going to try to move him when they have the best odds to win the Eastern Conference next season. That makes no sense. With the Pacers, and the Celtics out of contention, it leaves the Knicks, the Cavs, the Magic, and the Hawks as the top teams. All teams that the Knicks can beat. The Knicks are the only team of those who made the conference finals, obviously. So, that’s important to note. And on top of that, you just look at the Knicks, and they’re definitely able to get something done here. I do imagine the Knicks will be a top two seed, the Cavs being the other one. I actually think the Cavs will be the one seed again. The Knicks will be the two seed. But then come the playoffs is when things really will kick off. Male now plays for Mike Brown and Mike Brown’s going to be a way better coach for him than Tom Tibido was. Is Mike Brown will run actual sets for male to be able to be his best self with the Knicks instead of just trying to figure out things and freelance. The Knicks will actually have plays ran for the benefit of Male Bridges, which is going to be huge for him going forwards as well. So we love to see that. And Ian Begley also spoke on this whole situation, effectively saying the Knicks and Male have agreed to an extension less than the Max, which gives the Knicks more financial flexibility due to the second apron. He wants to be here and wants to win here, a league source told SNY. Bridges could have signed a 4-year $156 million max deal, but agreed to a 4-year $150 million deal. A league source confirmed first reported by ESPN. Now, on top of that, there’s something else we have to mention. Mel could have waited a year. He could have waited and signed an even bigger contract next season. You know how Jaylen Brunson signed the deal that he did? Male did the same thing, except he took another pay cut on top of that, and also didn’t wait a year so he could become an unrestricted free agent, threatened to leave the Knicks and forced their hand into giving him a contract that would be the biggest one ever signed in Knicks history, surpassing OG Anobi. So Male would have been able to do that if he chose, but he didn’t. He chose to stick around with the Knicks, and he wants to win with the Knicks, so he gave them more flexibility. Male could have made around $und00 million more and people are not talking about that right now. The amount of respect that Nicks fans have to give Male Bridges for this is really unrivaled right now outside of Jaylen Brunson who obviously takes the cake. He’s Jaylen Brunson. He’s he’s an all-star. He’s a superstar. He’s top 10 player in the NBA. You know that whole thing. But when it comes to male Bridges, he deserves his respect from the Knicks for doing this. This is absolutely an excellent move for both sides. Male helps the Knicks win games and that is what matters. Now, at the same time, we also consider the trade situation that Leon Rose is dealing with. The Knicks have been linked constantly to Giannis Antakumbo, but now we could put that to bed. As with male not being eligible to be traded, you really can’t trade Yan for Giannis at all. Giannis put up 30 points per game last year, 12 rebounds and six and a half assists, blocking a shot and getting a steal per game, shooting 60% from the field and 22% from deep. Giannis is obviously a superstar. He’s one of the best players in the NBA, top three player in the league. But at the end of the day, when it comes down to Giannis, the Knicks were never going to have enough assets to do it. They ultimately understood that and they ultimately paid Male Bridges because of that. Meaning Giannis to the Knicks at least is on the back burner for a while longer, but it seems likely that he never will play for the Knicks, at least not in his prime. But we’ll obviously see what happens down the line with everything else. But with Male Bridges, this is an excellent move. Knicks fans should be happy. He could have asked for way more money. Could have not taken that pay cut. Could have made things a lot more complicated for the Knicks going forwards. When you look at their cap table, we’re going to have to make that bigger. When you look at their cap table right now, they have the 27th most space. So, they have the third least space in the NBA right now and or fourth least space in the NBA right now for any contract situations. So, shout out to Male for not hurting that even more. I mean, the Knicks right now, their first apron space for going into this season is negative8 million. And then their second apron space is at 3.7175.5 million. So, that’s going to be interesting to see because the Knicks will be able to sign a player to both a veterans minimum deal and a rookie scale contract. And then following into next year, what we’ll be able to see is the Knicks be 21st in cap space instead of being a lot lower because of male taking this pay cut. That’s going to help things out a lot. The Knicks will have a lot more space to work with. They’ll have first apron money as well. So, shout out to Male for helping the Knicks out a ton and making next year easier so the Knicks can contend for longer. He deserves his flowers. Make sure you gave it to him. Overpay for someone who wont take it to the rack
He took a pay cut 6 mil
I guess, the NY Knicks decided to resign Mikal Bridges for a 4 year contract.
Forget about Gainnis trade for now
Great move by Knicks Mikal is the reason we beat Boston
Time to extend Mitchell now.
People forgetting about Orlando
I heard Macri mention Mikal had to be signed after 8/7/25 for the Knicks to lose the ability to trade Bridges for 6 months. I think he can still be traded in less than 6 months. Doubt they will, but wanted to point it out.
$6M over 4 years saves $1.5M per year. Not impressive. But signing for 4/$150M ($37.5M per)instead of 5/$296 ($59.2M per) is the big deal.
Don't hold Bridges in same high regard as others. He's a good player but not a great player. That makes him overrated in my book. He had some really good games this past season but was not very consistent. Most of the team wobbled when they were needed. Hope he can kick it up a notch this coming season and that goes for most of the team.
I think the true final form of this team is Jalen, KAT, Mikal, and OG averaging 20+ a night. We need those 4 to be a big 4.
