Atlanta Hawks Offseason Recap + Final Roster Spot Rumors | 2025 NBA Free Agency Talk
Yo, what’s good everyone? Welcome back to Sing Sports HQ. The Hawks have been quietly busy this off season. Like, ever since they hired Anie Salah, they’ve been pretty good. So, I want to talk about them today and yeah, let’s get straight to it. So, first I want to talk about what they’ve done this off seasonason so far. So, first of all, they’ve traded for Chris Tops Borisingis in a three-team deal, and it is wonderful. I mean, he is he’s a great player. Really stole him from the Celtics for like George Niang, Terrence Man, and a second round pick and a 22nd 22nd pick, sorry. And then we also signed uh Minnesota former Minnesota guard Nquila Alexander Walker and he is a very good role player playmaker. He can he’s like the replacement for Caris Lever kind of you can say. Um yeah I love that signing. And then finally we added Luke Canard from the Memphis Grizzlies. very good three-point shooter. He can come off the dribble, create a shot. He is very good at shooting. That’s what we needed for the past few years. And we also added Caleb Houston from Orlando and he’s fighting for the rotation spot, obviously. So, now I want to talk about the summer league. What has been going on in the summer league? I know it’s over, but there still has been talk. come the summer league. What happened? So, there’s two young guys to talk about. Former first round pick Kobe Buffkin and former second round pick Nico Derzich. So, Kobe Buffkin had a very decent summer summer league showing. He’s growing comfortable as the lead guard attacking attacking downhill and he’s playing a really strong defense. He is not the He’s not like a 100% I could say, but he is getting more comfortable and he might have a shot becoming the backup for the Hawks. And Nico has signed a four four I think three or four year deal with the Hawks finally with this second round exception. Um he was actually not that bad in the summer league. He was very good on defense and he could he could create a shot a little bit. So that is very good too. And I’m going to be honest, these young guys could be the future face of the Hawks if in a few few years after Trey Young leaves or something, retires, whatever. He could they could be the face of the Hawks. So just that’s something to keep on about. So finally now what everyone’s been waiting for, final roster spot talk. So, the Hawks have one roster spot left and here’s three names I think that could make the roster. So, first I think Al Horford can make the roster. He could return to Atlanta, be the backup behind Chris and Onyaka just in case Chris gets hurt because he’s injur injuryrone. He’d bring big leadership, a lot of leadership, stretch big depth behind Porzingis and Okongu like I said and could be his final season in Atlanta where he got drafted. So that’s something to keep an eye on. And someone else I think they could add is the Anthony Melton. They can give him like a veteran minimum contract cuz I don’t think they can afford anything else. and his defense shooting and versatility is very good. So like man, we couldn’t be a dangerous team if we added him. So finally, number one, former number one overall pick, Ben Simmons. So it’s a risky sign. He But if he’s healthy, he’s he would give the Hawks defensive strengths and and playmaking like Trey Young. So he could be the backup point guard or center potentially. So that is something to keep an eye on or they maybe hold the spot for flexibility, but I don’t really know. So let me know in what you think in the comments below.
