NEW LOOK NUGGETS vs SPURS – Dylan HARPER – Carter BRYANT – NBA 2K25
Look at the Nuggets opening lineup. The four in the five. It’s Gordon and Joic. In at the guard spots, it’s Murray and Brown. And it’s Johnson in at the small forward position. And for San Antonio, Sohan is the four with the lengthy Wimbeyama playing the foul. Fox is out there with Harper. And it’s Castle in at the three spot. All the talk, Greg, leading up to this one has been about the impact of the back court and that’s where it all starts. When you have a confident and competent backourt, it just opens up a lot of things for you offensively. Here’s Shan Harper. No good. Johnson for three. They get it back. Brown. The pass to Johnson. Here’s Murray. 11 ft out and he hits it. Boy, I love the fact that he caught it and was ready to shoot it right away. Well done. Here’s San Antonio. Pass to Sohan. Fox with it. Now guarded by Murray. Fox passes to Wemama. Now, some have argued that Webyama deserved defensive player of the year consideration in his rookie year. And Kevin, I can see where they’re coming from. His team went from a bottom five defense to a top five defense when he was on the floor. His impact is amazing. [Applause] He throw good when Benyama Park, it has been quite a run for the Nuggets, hadn’t it, who have made the playoffs every season since 2019. And how about this, Kevin? They’ve only been lower than a three seed one time in that span and that was because Murray missed the season due to injury. They are consistently tough. So we get them both. So Greg, the Spurs last year began 15 and 56, but it was the ending that they’re really hanging their head on. They won seven of their last 11 games. And over that closing stretch, Wimby averaged 27 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and five blocks. A small glimpse into the potential of this young superstar. And now the latest from our reporter, David Aldridge. Hey Kevin. Well, I had a chance to talk with the Spurs head coach. I asked him what’s the hardest thing about facing Nicole Joic. He said the way he controls the game at the offensive end. He keeps everyone involved. He’s a great scorer and you have to keep him off the offensive glass. It’s a tall order. All of it, guys. Thanks, David. Here’s Johnson following the three-pointer by San Antonio. The Nuggets moving the ball around. Pass to Murray. Shot clock at six to the paint. And the call on the shot that sends him to the line. Nicole Joic Clark is as skilled a big as we have seen and when he has the ball he can really affect the opposition. Yeah, he’s such a great passer and he’s got tremendous size. I mean people forget because he’s pretty nimble and agile that he’s, you know, right at 7 feet tall, 71 with really long arms. So he’s a problem just from the size standpoint. Then you factor in his other worldly skills as a passer, as a shot maker, as a basketball player. And now you’ve got something that’s as unique as we’ve seen in I think the history of the game. He hits one then misses the second attempt from the free throw line. You know what makes Jokic truly exceptional on my mind is the versatility. You know, he’s a really good passer and that to me is a tremendous distinction. Not to mention how he scores and does the other stuff he does out there. Now Joic following De’aran Fox’s three-point attempt. Inside. Here’s Joic. Murray for three. Rebound by Sohan. The Spurs have gone one and three from the field to start this one so far. Pass to Castle. Remain a screen on Murray. The kick out to Fox. Gets it from three-point range. And that quick shot by Fox is something you know he has worked on religiously. Nice finish. And Denver decides to take their first time out here. PA, there is a lot to like about the game of Stefan Castle. Size, playmaking, defensive intensity. I guess the question is, is there that one thing that he can do at an elite level? That will be a crucial step if he’s to become a star. [Applause] And Denver has possession, trailing by two. Johnson finds Joic. Al Gordon. trains it from beyond the arc. Boy, I like the confidence here. Gordon is excellent at realizing when he has room to shoot even before he has the ball. That’s what we call seeing a play ahead. Remyama down low. He’s against Gordon. Out of bounds. Denver takes possession. [Applause] Nuggets have gone. Three of five shooting the ball so far. Pass to Brown. Lob pass to Gordon and then Gordon with the dunk. And Gordon taking advantage of the fact that when he gets up in the air like that, nobody’s interested in getting in his way. Outside Fox. Harper with a screen on Murray. The wide open look here for Fox. This three-pointer is off the mark. The Nuggets leading by three. Murray outside. Pass to Brown. Left side. Gordon. [Applause] Here’s Brown. He’s guarded by Harper. Lock at six. Now here’s Murray over Castle. Second chance shot. Joic. No good. The Spurs have gone two of five here, making 40% so far to start out the game. Offensive rebound. Boy, I like the focus and unselfishness Fox brings to the court. A strong defender with lightning quick reflexes in every spot. First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. And he hit his foul shots a season ago at about a 74% clip. Two shots. [Applause] He’s off on the first. And for De’Aran Fox, his three-point shooting Greg has come a long way. In his rookie season, he only shot 30% on two attempts per game, but his volume and efficiency have both gone way up, and it’s made him much more dangerous offensively. He’s off on the second. And though the Nuggets had some excellent outside shooters, Clark, they’ve been more prolific inside the arc the last couple years. Yeah, that’s exactly right. I mean, they were an extreme example of that, Kevin. First in the league in two-point attempts and then dead last, almost dead last in three-point attempts. Not what most people would think when looking at the Nugget. Knocks down the three ball. And he likes to get in a rhythm early. Nice triple. Murray against Fox. There’s the pick [Applause] and the rejection by Remyama. Hey, night in and night out. Joic is taking and relishing the contact. Clark, what we appreciate, you know, for some players success can change them, but not for Joic. He seems like the same guy. He certainly does, boy. And he is special. He is so much fun to watch. Seems to be even killed and down the earth. But his game is heaven sentent for sure. Free throw good. Joic Johnson. He’s checked in for Wemama. [Applause] And that’s good as he hits both of his shots. Here’s Fox. He has six pass to Castle [Applause] outside. Harper. Sohan with the screen. Harper the pass to Sohan and the dunk by Sohan seems to have a knack for hitting guys in their spots. His vision excellent. Joic against Johnson. Johnson right side outside Gordon. Six to shoot. [Applause] Murray looking around. offensive rebound and Joic gets it to go. Joic has got five points so far. A guy who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Joic on top of that and San Antonio calls the first timeout of the game. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Here’s Sohan defended by Gordon. So the pass to Harper. So with the screen down low rebound by the Nuggets to the left wing. It’s tipped and it’s going to be out of bounds. The Nuggets will retain possession. Yeah. gets a finger on it but just can’t quite come up with the steal. Clearly a careless pass. He got away with one there. And here are the Nuggets now. They lead by four. Johnson dishes to Gordon. Pass to Murray. Here’s Joic. That one falls. His second basket of the game. He’s now two for three. You know, I really like seeing this from Murray looking to get his open teammates involved. Being a willing passer is impressive to his teammates. Now, here’s Harper. He has yet to score. Man, he sure can get off the floor. One of the best in the business. Absolutely. Well, he makes it look easy. He is an absolutely imposing finisher around the rim. And let’s head over to the sideline and catch up with David Aldridge. Kevin, thanks. De’aran Fox stays in attack mode. He says people don’t want to guard somebody that’s going to attack them on every possession. You can’t get that break. You can’t take any plays off. And with his speed, Kevin, that is a lot to deal with all game long. A ton, David, to deal with. No question. Da thanks. Here’s Castle. Denver getting their last shot to go. Power down with both hands. I’ll tell you what, I’m not sure these guys can keep this up. High octane action for sure. Crowdleasing already. Gordon. The pass to Brown to the inside. Kicks it out to Johnson. Jacks up a three. Rebound by Soan. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession. And guys, he’s not an easy man to stop when he’s got the rim in his sights. Never has been, never will be. He is a determined finisher. And guys, I like the fact that he chose the one hand tomahawk slam because you get a little higher when you go off one hand and one foot. Here’s Sohan. Six on the shot clock. Another shot. Shooting foul as the whistle blows. He’ll shoot two free throws. And for a player of his size, Fox not afraid to take some contact to get to the line. He’ll do it every chance he gets. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] First one falls for him. And some changes here for the Spurs. Luke Cornet, he’s checked in for Jeremy Sohan. Bryant comes in for Harper and it’s Vel in for Castle. [Applause] Murray with it. He brings it up for the Nuggets. Valen Junis with a screen on Fox. It’s Valen Junis finishing it off. Really rock solid decision making from Murray assessing the situation and then making the precise pass at the right time. [Applause] Bryant. A screen on Brown. [Applause] High post. Bryant. Ryan sets the screen for Johnson. [Applause] Missile blows. Basket is good. So, a chance here for a three-point play. Not giving up on the play. Great job by Kell to absorb the contact and still get the bucket. The Spurs shooting their seventh attempt at the foul line in this one. And just to mention, a season ago they were very comfortable at the line hitting about 78% of their free throws. Zeke Naji. He’s checked in for the Nuggets. Find the lanes. Find the lanes. One shot. [Applause] Got to get it. Let’s get it. Get it. Get it. Now the free throw is good. Now leading by one. Now Murray Aston [Applause] lets the three fly. There it is. His third basket. He’s taken seven shots to get those three. Immensely confident in his game. Murray doesn’t think twice about pulling the trigger from deep. Nor should he. That bucket in in no time at all. Fox has got 11 points. The real come at us and we’re coming right back at you. A little back and forth from long range. I love it. That’s a terrific answer there. Now here’s Murray. He has seven on the wing. Hardway. Defended by Bryant. It’s picked off. [Applause] Deflects the pass and it goes out of bounds. Last touch by Murray. Spurs making a switch here. Barnes has checked in and Denver with a change here too. Watson’s checked in. [Applause] Murray against Fox. Shoots the three. Comes up empty here. That puts him at three for six. Watson kicks to Brown. Pass to Holmes. [Applause] and foul on the shot. So, he’ll get a chance at the line. And some stats here, guys, the scoring breakdown for the Spurs. We’ve got a bunch of this game yet to be played, but they’re shooting it well from the three-point line. That’s got to be a welcome sight. And, you know, in no time at all, they’ve also started finding points inside already taking apart that interior defense. [Applause] And he makes the first. [Applause] And he makes the first but misses the second. Listen, there’s no doubt he feels like they should have the lead, but that miss will keep it all tied up. Vel no good. And you don’t want to give up that kind of look too often. Murray kicks to Watson. Watson the screen. Hardway for three. Rebounded by the Spurs. Velle outshine. 135 left to play in the first quarter. They get it back. Cornet lays it up and banks it in. And the Spurs lead by two. Yeah. And there it is again. On a lot of their possessions this first half, they’ve established great inside position. [Applause] Murray against Fox. Murray left side. Five to shoot. [Applause] Hardway passes to Watson and trying for the go-ahead basket. It doesn’t go in. [Music] Barnes down low. He’s covered by Watson. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. officials on the call with the foul. And I think Barnes is an impressive athlete. You could say that for a lot of guys in this league, but he’s he excels at reading the defense and and forcing the issue. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. Good. [Music] The first free throw is good. Man, you got to appreciate the overall game of Barnes. He’s efficient as a scorer and also works hard at the defensive end. [Applause] Barnes hits them both. Here’s Brown. Scoreless thus far. [Applause] Hardway is screen on Bell. Brown kicks to Hardway. Back to Brown. Off the mark there with the three-point shot. 7second difference. Shot and game clock. Here’s Fox. It’s hauled in by Braum. That’s exactly the look they wanted, guys. Right guy, right play, wrong result. It’s good from long range. Hey, we know Tim Hardaway Jr. is a guy who takes a lot of threes, especially when he finds wiggle room from the corners. He salivates for those. [Applause] Here’s Fox over Brown. No good from 11 ft. A big time effort for De’aran Fox, providing a lot of energy for San Antonio. He comes away with 11 points in the quarter and is showing no signs of fatigue. And we’ve got more M2K Sports coming your way after this break. [Applause] And this has been a fairly close game through the first quarter. And we’ll see what happens here in the second. And guys, what’s your take on the Spurs so far? Attacking, drawing fouls. They won that first quarter at the line. Boy, I like the aggressive nature they’re playing with here. Not playing soft at all. They’re going right at him. The Nuggets trail on the floor for Denver as we get going here in the second quarter. They’ve got Nakola Joic. Hardaway is out there with Brown and it’s Drawther in at the two guard. Now here’s Brown. Hasn’t made one yet. Joic with the bucket drawing fouls. Clark getting to the line. All part of the game, but you think players try and draw fouls too often now? I do in some cases, but I think it’s more on an individual basis. I mean, players have to do what they need to do to try to score the ball, but I don’t think anybody likes one, guys fouls, and then two, whining when fouls aren’t called. Now, here’s Brown following the miss. Shot by De’aran Fox. Now, here’s Joic. The baseline J. No good on the shot. Very dangerous to leave a guy like that open. Lucky break there for the deep Fox. It’s no good. Denver in the lead for the three. Another miss by Joic. Brazil with it. Switch. Pass to Cornet. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Just five on the clock. Again, the miss by the Spurs for Denver. They’ve gone one and three to start out the second quarter. And there’s the foul. It’ll go on Bruce Brown. That is his first foul of the game. The Spurs making a switch here. [Applause] And we’re a little over a minute and a half into the second quarter of action. [Applause] A pass to Fox over Joic and it’s sent back by Joic. What I like about Joic defensively is what I like about him overall. Great instincts outside Hardway. Driving the lane and a missed late. San Antonio trailing here. Visel the pass to Barnes and the dunk by Barnes. Now we’ve talked Barnes is athletic. He’s strong, but he also has good bounce. So he gets up fast to ram it home. Pass to Holmes to the middle. Joic doing the job inside. Guys, what a wild first half this has been. Wow. Back and forth start, that’s for sure. Time called here. The Spurs decide to talk it over as the teams head into this timeout. A chance for the coaches now to map out some plays for the next few minutes and a chance for the players to rehydrate with some Gatorade. That’s important if they want to make sure they don’t wear down later in the game. Absolutely. Over the course of a game, you have to stay hydrated. Denver making a switch here. Watson’s checked in. [Applause] it up. Second quarter of play with almost three minutes gone and he hits it and gets hacked on the play. A three-point possibility if he can convert the free throw. And the added strength coming into play for Bell. Nice job scoring through the contact. The Spurs have gone seven of nine from the free throw line tonight. And the Spurs making a change here. Champenny’s checked in. One shot. [Applause] And that one falls for Vel. You watch Vel, he’s a prototype wing for this era. Has length, skill, and plays both ends of the floor. Now here’s Brown. Still scoreless. Pass to Watson. He’s looking for Olen and finds him. Pulls it up. Count it. His second make in four attempts. And there is no hesitation on Vel’s catch and shoot jumpers. Any sort of room and he’s let it fly. Round the pass to Watson. [Applause] Back to Brown. Flatson the screen. Just five to shoot. A nice shot by Brown. [Applause] And it’s Fox with the ball for the San Antonio Spurs. Only given up six here in this quarter. Connects from three-point range. Fox has got 14 points. Got to respect the jumper of Fox now. The form is solid and he’s a lefty which always makes a guy dangerous. Down low, the jump hook that misses off the backboard. San Antonio leading by five. Johnson the pass to Olen. Count the bucket coming off a perfectly placed assist. You know, with that kind of height mismatch, you’ve got to send help defensively. Nuggets have gone three of seven shooting the ball here in the second quarter. Pass to Straw. [Applause] Some nice ball movement by the Nuggets. Get draws the double. There’s the triple and that one’s good. Strawther. Strawther’s got himself on the board with three there. And that’s a sweet dime from Joic. He’s always had good vision and it only seems to get better every year. Spain by a winning. Fox goes in. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. No question he got bumped on that shot. Yeah, the officials didn’t need to talk that one over. It was obvious. This is his third trip to the free throw line in the game. Shooting two [Applause] free throw good. Fox Aaron Gordon. He’s checking in for the Nuggets. Christian Brown comes in for Tim Hardaway Jr. [Applause] Push on the Mitch. Push it on the M. That one is no good. The Nuggets trail by five. Pass to Brown and it’s out of bounds to the Nuggets as Denver retains possession on the wing. Gordon. Now here’s Brown guarded by Fox. Joic sets the screen for Brown. Shot clock at five [Applause] and he finishes nicely on the layup. Brown’s got his second basket of the game. Spurs leading by three. Time called here. The Spurs decide to talk it over. Adjustments are a part of the game and the coach sees something he doesn’t like here. And you know what? We’ll see what changes he makes coming out of this timeout. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. And some changes here for the Spurs. Victor Webbyama is checked in for Olen and Castle is subbed in for Vel Johnson. He’s checked in for the Nuggets. Murray comes in for Brown. So, it’s San Antonio now. It’s a three-point game. Outside Harper. They set the pick. Lets it go from deep. Denver grabs the miss. Joic has got eight rebounds in this game. It’s deflected. Fox with it now guarded by Murray. Fox passes to Harper. Good. And a nice assist from Fox. Harper’s got five. Really sweet passing from Fox. He’s a reliable floor general and has great vision on the court. Pass to Joic inside. Four on three as they bring it up. Here’s Castle. Here’s Winyama. And Winyama throws it down. You have to be aware of when Banyama on the boards. Really keep a body on. Murray against Fox. Johnson with a screen on Fox. Murray. And it’s Harper with the rebound. Spurs leading by eight. [Applause] And here is Fox. He’s got 15 three-pointer. And Jokic with the rebound. Joic has got nine rebounds in the game. Getting it done. Pass to Brown. Find Murray and he gets it to him. The Nuggets moving the ball around. Shot clock at six. Gordon with no one around. And another miss by Denver. San Antonio’s gone two of four from three-point range so far in the second quarter. Here’s Wimbeyama. A chance to extend the lead to double digits, but it’s no good. Johnson left side. [Applause] Here’s Brown. No scoring in this one. Here’s Castle. Oh, my goodness, man. And this sort of awesome dunk is one of the reasons this team is in charge of this game. Well, there’s a swagger out there. You can see it on the court that they possess and are not afraid to show it either. Boy, and I used to love going up and jamming it down like that, guys. Here’s Brown up there for Johnson. [Applause] No good. Unable to end this run. San Antonio leading by 10. Pass to Harper. Back to Fox. [Applause] Here’s Winyama. The shot is good and so is his shooting tonight. Three for four. And few defenders to ever play in this league have the ability to slow inside. Time called here. The Nuggets decide to talk it over. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Vel, he’s checked in for San Antonio. Brown, he’s checked in for Denver. [Applause] And so it’s Murray with it. He brings it up for the Denver Nuggets down by 12. Johnson outside. [Applause] And it’s Gordon missing. Spurs leading by 12. Clark, as you look at the career of Aaron Gordon, he has blossomed into an elite role player. Yeah, and I love the fact that he’s done that. He’s embraced his role. He’s embraced taking fewer shots and playing more defense and getting on the glass more and making hustle plays. Not everybody would do what Aaron has done. And it’s a credit to him that he’s been able to again embrace, not just accept, but embrace the role that he serves for that championship team. It’s time now to hear from our Hall of Fame reporter, David Aldridge. What’s the latest, David? Kevin, the league recalibrated its emphasis on fouling during last season. Commissioner Adam Silver said there was a sense that offensive players had too much of an advantage, so an adjustment this year. The fans want great offense, but they want players to be allowed to play defense as well. And I think that’s what we’re seeing, Devin. It’s a welcome change. Welcome indeed. No doubt about it. Denver calls timeout. Well, it’s been an express lane to the rim. Coach can’t be happy about that. And you know, I think he’s going to tell him simply, we have to show more fight on the interior. That’s the top priority right now. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up [Applause] here. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Here’s Johnson. Pass to Murray. Lob pass to Gordon and it’s going to be out of bounds. The Spurs will take it. You know, I think he may have forced that pass when there was really no reason to. Spurs leading by 14. Here’s Castle. Outside Harper. Hey. Hey. Pass to Sohan. Down to five on the shot clock. Here’s Wimyama. Rebound by the Nuggets. Brown’s got his fourth rebound with that last one here tonight. And here’s Gordon. Denver passing it around. [Applause] Murray against Vel trying to get something going. Shot is good and the Spurs lead is cut down to just 12 points on the bucket for Murray. You know, when Murray finishes like this, guys, it shows you how aggressive his mindset is in attacking the defense. Now, here’s Harper. He’s got five. A minute 20 left in the first half. Murray kicks to Brown. Johnson sends the screen for Brown. Back to Murray. the three. A rebound by the Spurs. Pass to Harper. Zohan with the ball to the wing on the left. Here’s Castle. Back to Zohan. Out to the wing. A three from Wyama. That’s in. That’s his fifth field goal. He’s shooting a hot 71%. Five for seven. Johnson right side. 30 seconds left in the first half of basketball. Craps in the train. Gordon’s got eight points. The real come at us and we’re coming right back at you. A little back and forth from long range. I love it. That’s a terrific answer there. Here’s Remyama. That balls. Nice feed that time from Harper and the Spurs lead by 14. Vel [Applause] and Denver again with the bucket. [Applause] And so it’s the San Antonio Spurs up by a dozen here at the end of the quarter. They’ve had active hands and have forced a lot of turnovers in this one. And don’t go away, we’ll be right back. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Well, we’ve got a second half of basketball for you. We think it’s going to be pretty good. A big comeback, though, is needed for this game to be competitive, and it probably has to happen quickly. We’re seeing a tremendous game from Victor Remmanyama. The way he was able to finish on the block was incredible there in that first half. Yeah, you know what? I think he’s doing exactly what he has to do. Using his body, shaking off contact, and then finishing at the rim. [Applause] The Nuggets trail by 12. Sohan is the four with the lengthy Wimbeyama playing the five. Harper is out there with De’aran Fox and it’s Castle in at the small forward. That’s the San Antonio foul and so when Benyama will bring it up for San Antonio. [Applause] Harper with the ball and it’s Gordon picking him up. When Benyama passes to Fox, pulls up on the wing. He claims that one off the back iron and down it falls. And that’s 17 points for De’aran Fox. Pass to Brown. Gordon deciding where to go with it. Here’s Joic and the rejection by Remyama. And Fox has it in the corner. That three off the mark. Tell you what, the defense was lucky there. I mean, leave him that open from range, he’ll typically knock it down. Back to Joic. Things getting physical, but Joic hammers it out and wins. And right now, Joic has it going on. He’s doing whatever he wants to out there. Remyama, a screen floats it up for the height of Remyama on the line. Wow. The perfect lob partner. Wimbeyama with elite hand eye coordination. Here’s Gordon. And it’s Gordon with the finish. You know, it’s clear that Gordon is one of the best dunkers in the game. Always looking to bring the thunder. [Applause] Here’s Fox. He’s got 17 outside Harper. Spurs working the ball around now. Rambyama high post. [Applause] Pass to Harper from deep three-point territory. It’s hauled in by Gordon. Gordon’s got four rebounds in this game. Come on, get on. Go, go, go, go. Come get it. Come get it. Murray outside. Back door. Back door. Here’s Brown. Back to Murray. And here’s Gordon. Defended by Soham to the inside. It’s stolen by Renyama looking to get it going. And contact on the shot. So he’ll be shooting free throws here. For San Antonio, they have been shooting right around 75% at the line. Nine of 12 so far. [Applause] [Music] Rebound. Let’s get it. Get it. Get it. [Applause] And that one misses. [Applause] [Applause] more [Applause] and he sinks the second. A little over two and a half minutes off the clock in this final half of play. A nice shot by Brown. Browns got his first basket. Boy, at the offensive end, his game is so impressive. I mean, he’s a threat every time up the floor. Harper with a screen on Murray. Fox the bounce pass. Remyama down low. He’s against Joic. Remyama. No good to the paint. Here’s Gordon. And a lot of contact on that one. So, he’ll shoot two here. Really a fantastic job by Gordon to bury himself down there, giving the defense really no other choice than to foul it. The Nuggets have shot 67% from the line tonight, going 46. And going back a season ago, they were a pretty average team at the line, about 76% altogether. And I know the free throw shooting is an area they focused on improving coming into this season. That free throw no good. Aaron Gordon has a special combination of athleticism and size and I think his skill set is perfectly tailored for how the game is played today. [Applause] He hits the second from the line. Here is Harper. He has six. Ben and Benyama outside. Pass to Castle and it’s Denver with the rebound. Joic has got 11 rebounds in the game and it’s Gordon finishing it off. And maybe that’ll trigger them. Impossible not to get pumped up after that. Yeah. Well, you could see the immediate reaction of the guys in the bench. They are pumped up and that’s what those alleyoops will do for a team. Ignition switch ignited. San Antonio calls timeout. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Third quarter of basketball here in just a little under three and a half minutes gone by. Weama a screen. Harper the pass to Wemyama and Wanyyama throws it down. And a monster game for Wimby with the matchup issues he creates. I’m not sure anyone in this league can stop him when he’s on. Now here’s Gordon. He’s got 13. Back to Joic. over Remyama and it’s Joic missing. Spurs leading by 10. It’s tipped. Joic with the steel. Pass to Brown. Good. And the assist goes to Joic. Brown’s got five points now this quarter. Such a savvy passer. Joic is patient and gets quality openings for his teammates. [Applause] outside Harper. Remyama a screen and Remyama with the flush. Oh, he just punches that one down with a fury. Rubs it in a little deeper with the hanging finish. Guys, they’re not backing off at all, are they? Brown. The pass to Johnson. Here’s Brown. He’s guarded by Harper from deep three-point land. A shot by Johnson. No good. San Antonio’s gone 02 from deep to start things here in the second half and it’s so missing. The Nuggets trail by nine right there. Here’s Murray. Here’s Joic. Johnson wide open. He fires. Gets it to go from beyond the arc. Johnson’s got six points. And just no excuse, guys, for leaving a shooter like him open beyond the ark. Outside Harper and Harper Sattens it in. He’s going to put that one in his scrapbook. Insane D. And now they’re starting to rub it in. Build up a lead. And here we go, baby. It is showtime. And why not? A little salt in the wound. The more plays they make like that, the more they’ll have these guys reeling and on the ropes. And so here’s Denver following the bucket by the Spurs. Remyama a screen out left to the wing. Here’s Castle. No good from outside. The Nuggets trail by eight. Here’s Brown and he gets the whistle. Two free throws coming up. It’s going to be on Victor Wemmenyama. Yeah, good job to take it right at the knee. Yeah, really left him no choice there. I mean, he had to foul and keep him from converting the easy bucket. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] And he knocks down the first one. Vel, he’s checked in for Castle. And Denver with a change here, too. Hardway’s checked in for Cameron Johnson. [Applause] So he makes one of two as the second one misses. Spurs leading by seven and it’s Vel in the corner from 12 ft out. Good. He hits the jump shot and it’s seven points for Devin Bell. Hey, that high release point really helps Vel in that mid-range area. Here’s Brown. He’s guarded by Harper. Brown the pass to Murray. Now here is Hardaway. Six to shoot. Fires it up and the jumper is good. Hardway has got five. And the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Well, I’m going to credit the screen. I mean, that’s a good strong pick. He lays there. Pass to Soan. Here’s Wimyama again. The Spurs good for two. Showing he’s more than just an interior threat. Wimbeyama also possesses that reliable jump shot. Outside Hardway. Gordon with the screen for Hardway. And here’s Joic outside. A rebound by the Spurs. Outside Fox. Harper up top. Eight points for him and he’s fouled pretty hard on that shot, but he’s got the chance to pick up the points at the line. It’s going to be on Aaron Gordon. You know, a bit undersized. Vel using it to his advantage to get around defenders. [Applause] Now the first one drops [Applause] more Second free throw, no good. The Nuggets trail by 10. Pass to Brown. From outside off the mark. The Spurs have gone seven of 13 in the third quarter so far. Just above 50%. Took him no time at all on that one. Vel’s got six here in this quarter. Yeah, Vel looking comfortable and confident from the corner. Back to Gordon. Yic. High post and foul on the shot. He’ll shoot two at the free throw line. Too big, too skilled. Joic just methodically breaks you down. He’s a very unique player. And breaking down some numbers here, the hustle stats for San Antonio. I like the fact that they’ve been very aggressive at the defensive end. Tenacious. They’re jumping passing lanes and coming away with a lot of steals. And not just that, they’re also forcing turnovers at a high rate and taking advantage in transition. And some changes here for the Spurs. Johnson comes in for So it’s Bryant in for Fox and Denver also making a switch. Holmes checked in [Music] [Applause] and Joic drops them both. Spurs leading by 11. Now Harper, he’s got eight. Pass to Wim Benignyama. Nice ball move booming by San Antonio. Back to Vel. Pocket six. Wignyama. A screen on Murray. Fires the three. That’s good from Wyama on the assist by Vel. And when Wmanyama is connecting from deep, he is downright unguardable. This is how special a talent he is. Now here’s Holmes. Pass to Murray. This one for three. drills it from outside. Murray’s got 14 points for the game. Murray has that spirit of you make one on me, I’m coming back at you from M. Harper kicks to Johnson right here. Now Webeyama. Harper with the ball from downtown. Remyama. No good. Here’s Brown. He has six. Pass to Joic. Out to Hardway. The offensive rebound. Good concentration coming right there from Joic. Joic able to play through contact and seems unstoppable when he’s that close to the hole. To the inside and stolen by Murray. Here’s Brown. Covered by Vel. Joic with his screen on Harper for a three. Murray Vel grabs the board and the call up against Joic. That is his first foul of the game. And the Spurs with some changes. Luke Cornet, he’s checked in for Victor Webyama. Barnes comes in for Kell Johnson. And it’s Fox in for Harper. And then for Denver, Strawthers checked in and it’s Bruce Brown in for Christian Brown. Jamal Murray is still an elite scorer. And Clark, he has fought through so many injuries and it’s remarkable that he’s as explosive off the bounce as he is after the injuries that he’s dealt with. His ability to create a shot, especially at crunch time, one of the best in the league. The pull-up jumper, the teardrop, and the three. He’s got all of those. Wide open look here for Murray. Here’s Joic. And Joic slams it in. You know, for all of his agility and craftiness, the slick moves, Joic not afraid to go old school and just throw it down on you. Now here’s Vel, 11 points in the game. It’s the three-point foul. Vel’s got nine points now in just the second half. Unwilling to let up even for a moment. That’s his killer instinct. just spanning the flame. Yeah, I love the fact he doesn’t play the score. He just keeps coming attack mode. He doesn’t know how to step off the gas pedal. Here’s Joic. 21 points in the game. Six to shoot. Denver needs to get off his shot for three. Murray good. And the assist goes to Joic. Joic has got his seventh assist of the game with that last one. And so Fox will bring it up for the San Antonio Spurs. the biggest lead of the game, 15 points. Tried to answer back, but that three is off the mark. Murray with it. He’s picked up by Bryant. Murray no good. That’s a rare miss for him inside. He may have just rushed it a bit, maybe lost concentration, too. Bryant dishes to Fox. [Applause] And so it’s Victor Webeyama making things happen for the Spurs. A terrific quarter for him and now he has a total of 27 points. Shouldn’t take him long to get up over 30. Don’t go anywhere. We’ll be right back. [Applause] Fourth quarter of action is upon us. Thanks as always for joining us. Here’s Fox and Denver will start the fourth quarter with we’ve got Tim Hardaway Jr. Joic is out there with Brown and it’s Drawther in at shooting guard. Here’s Fox. Denver grabs the miss. Well, they’ll be happy with that look even though it didn’t fall. You know what? That’s a confidence shaker for him though. I mean, that’s a shot he expects to make every time. Here’s Strawther. That’s tipped and stolen by Vel on the wing. Barnes. [Applause] Pass to Cornette over Hardway and Cornet gets it to go and the Spurs lead by 11. And even with the big lead, he remains focused on the task at hand. Yeah. And you know that is some shaky and shoddy defensive work. They got to tighten it up. The alley very well done. Boy, excellent recognition from Hardaway Jr. to find his teammate there. This guy’s an unselfish player. Visel the bounce pass. Marvelous lead pass and he throws it down. The D just kind of stepping aside and letting him get to the rim. There’s a reason, GA, the lead is what it is right now. You know, you look at it, the communication is lacking, as is the trust. They can ill afford those types of breakdowns. It won’t work. You can’t win with those kind of breakdowns. And here is Vel after Tim Hardway made that last three-pointer. And man is Vel tough to guard. So good at using that length to get the call. [Applause] 2. The first one falls. The Spurs making a switch here. Johnson’s checked in. [Applause] Fell hits them both. The Nuggets trail by 10. Pass to Holmes. To the middle. Got a piece of it. Johnson against Holmes. Vel outside. [Applause] Here’s Cornet. Kicks it out to Johnson. Hangs on the trifecta. You know, some guys who rely on their strength aren’t great shooters. Johnson, though, is in a different category. On the wing, Hardway pass to Joic. Oolen against home. Five on the clock. Here’s Frother from deep. That shot missing and over two and a half minutes in the books here in the fourth. Down low. Here’s Cornet and that one is hammered home. The ball distribution was there. I mean, outstanding work all the way around. Brown. The pass to Joic. Joic with a screen on Vel Strawther. That one’s off. Still out of sink. San Antonio leading by 15. Inside, here’s Cornet. It’s hauled in by Brown. Brown’s got five rebounds tonight. To the paint. Holmes passes to Hardaway. Rebound San Antonio. A bit under three and a half minutes of pass here in the fourth. Pass to Vel. Johnson with it. Joic defending. Hey, right here. Right here. Here’s Olen. That’s in coming off an assist from Johnson. The Nuggets trail by 17. Here’s the screen now. Joic. Joic draws the double. The Nuggets moving the ball around to the inside. And then Hardaway with the dunk. How about the assertiveness from Hardaway Jr. there electing to go with power and force. I love it. Pass to Cornette. And oh boy, a lot of contact there, but he gets the call and will shoot two. [Applause] Two seconds. [Applause] First free throw is good. Harper, he’s checked in for San Antonio. Watson, he’s checked in for the Nuggets. Christian Brown comes in for Tim Hardaway Jr. [Applause] Both shots good from the strike. The Nuggets trail by 17. Pass to Watson. Here’s Brown. Got a piece of it. Now Harper, he’s covered by Watson. Vel wide open. No good on the triple. And so it’s Watson who will bring it up for Denver. And here’s Joic. Here’s Brown. Olen is covering. Here’s offline with his three. San Antonio leading by 17. Here’s Fox with the drive and that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. It’s going to be on Joic. And how about the burst there with the change of pace. Fox is elite at attacking the rim. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] And the first one at the line is good. Barnes is checked in for Luke Cornet. And Denver also making a switch. Big heads checked in. [Applause] Fox hits them both. Here’s Picket. [Applause] Cloak loose. Fox with the steel and Fox with a clear path to the basket and contact on the shot. So, he’ll be shooting free throws here. And we talk about Fox’s speed, but he also has length. He’s a factor there in the paint. [Applause] He misses the free throw. Remyama, he’s checked in for the Spurs. Jeremy Sohan comes in for Harrison Barnes. And the Nuggets making a change here. [Applause] Good on the second free throw. The Nuggets trail by 20. Murray outside. Takes a three. The shot’s good. Brown making the play. Murray’s got nine points here in the second half. If you’re the defense, you’ve got to do better on Murray. I mean, even from way downtown, he’s pretty accurate. Remain a screen on Murray. Three-pointer. Fox drills the three-pointer. And an eye for an eye. Both teams working to stretch the floor. Nothing like answering back. One team gets three, you fire three of your own. Boom. Now here’s Brown. And it’s Gordon with the finish. Boy, you look at Gordon. He is cut up now. Fantastic at being able to overcome physical defenses because of his own physicality. San Antonio making a switch here. Barnes has checked in. [Applause] One shot. Here’s [Applause] Fox. Barnes outside. Now here’s Harper. Velc outside. misses the three. Here’s Brown. Covered by Barnes. No problems knocking that one down. Murray’s got 22. This is one of those nights where Murray was just determined to take over and he’s carried through with that determination. Right side Harper and the call on the shot that sends him to the line. It’s going to be on Joic. [Applause] [Applause] Push it on the miss. The first one falls. Castle’s checked in for San Antonio. Johnson, he’s checked in for Denver. [Applause] So after making the first, he goes one for two. The Nuggets trail by 16 for three. Murray. That’s in. Coming off the assist from Joic. Joic has got his ninth assist in the game now. Pass to Soan. And here is Harper. San Antonio again missing. Murray left side outside. Gordon down to five on the shot clock to the middle. Joic. Joic makes the defense look helpless. Whoa. It takes body control, concentration, and skill to score against that kind of defense. Yic doing a really nice job inside. There’s the screen. fires the three and the basket by Castle and the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Well, I’m going to credit the screen. I mean, that’s a good strong pick he lays there. Now, here’s Gordon. Joic passes to Brown. Here’s Johnson again. The Nuggets score. Well, check out that assist. That’s a pair of teammates that are clearly on the same page. Outside Harper Veline and the Spurs scoring again. And so it’s Murray with it. He brings it up for the Denver Nuggets. Down low. Here’s Yic. And Yic slams it in. Strong move to the 10 trying to get his guys going. Hard not to get motivated GA right when your teammate makes that kind of play. Yeah, you know when you’re looking to close the gap, you need guys who will take it upon themselves to step up, take the initiative and make something happen. A good look from Vel and it’s in after a nice bounce off the right side. Vel’s got 15 points in just the second half for three. Murray and the three ball is good. He’s found his rhythm from deep and and you can see the confidence. Yeah, I’d be confident, too. As a matter of fact, I mean, if you’re stacking up threes the way he is, I mean, he’s doing all this work from behind the arc. So, it’s San Antonio now after Jamal Murray was able to get that triple and an eye for an eye. Both teams working to stretch the floor. Nothing like answering back. One team gets three, you fire three of your own. Boom. Now here’s Murray. Here’s Joic. Rebound by Sohan. Spurs leading by 14. Pass to Castle. Here’s Sohan defended by Gordon. Vel against Joic. Vel kicks to Hartford from past the arc. Castle misses. Oh man, you know he’d love to have that one over. A shot by Johnson. No good. San Antonio’s gotten eight shots off from three-point land and hit half of it. Vel out time. Fox with it outside. Harper Latray. Rebound by Johnson. It’s Yic. Top of the key. Whistle blows. Bucket is good. And he’ll have a chance at the line to make it a three-point play. Joic showing you the benefits of that work in the weight room. Mustling right through the defender. Victor Wemmeny checked in for Vel. [Applause] Find the lane. Find the length. Good shot. [Applause] 143 left to play here in the fourth. Fox inside the one and he buries that one. Drilling the rim on the way down. Fox has got eight points in the quarter. The Nuggets trail by 13 to the paint. Johnson surveying the floor. That’s in coming off the assist from Joic. Really a terrific find there and he notches the triple double with that assist. He’s just been everywhere tonight. Spurs leading by 10. 116 left in the fourth quarter. Harper no good. Nugget shooting has been great. Up over 50% in fact 52%. Murray outside from the arc and the rejection by Remyama. Johnson in the corner takes the three. Score the basket. His fifth of the game. He’s missed six shots against those five base. A total defensive collapse. I mean, no reason to allow him that kind of space from behind the arc. 43 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Throw the pass to Fox. Remama up top from the top of the key. He buries it and the Spurs lead by nine. And I like when Wimyama is aggressive on offense because defenses feel helpless to stop it. Denver calls timeout. They’re trailing by nine. Turning here to our analysts. What factors guys come to your mind? And you know what? They’re not ready to give up yet. They’ll try to intentionally foul if they can get a quick hoop. Yeah. And I’m sure that’s what they’re talking about. I mean, it’s their only chance. And even if it’s a long shot, it is a chance. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Fox against Murray. Joic with a screen on Fox. Murray for three. Denver gets it back. There’s another opportunity and everything’s going right for these guys. Here’s Foxyama looking it over. And so it’s San Antonio with the win. It was up for grabs right until the final seconds. Yeah. And for me, Kevin, what stood out is just the overall trust this group has in one another when it matters most. Doing what had to be done and to send these fans home happy. And that’ll wrap it up, folks. For Greg Anthony, Clark Kellogg, and David Aldridge, this is Kevin Harland. Thanks for watching the NBA on 2K Sports. And as we leave you, let’s take a look at our player of the game, Victor Wemama. Heat up here.
