The Real Reason for this Knicks CONTROVERSIAL Decision…
The real reason for this New York Knicks controversial decision has been revealed as the Knicks recently made the biggest move of the summer outside of coaching. And fans do seem pretty split on it. But now there’s a direct reason why the Knicks went out there and made the decision that they did in order to keep this core around for the long-term future. And we are going to break it all down. What’s up guys? Welcome back to Nicks Digest. It’s Chris here back on the road again and because of it the lighting is not perfect, but we’re going to jump right into things. No matter where I am in the world, I will be giving you guys an update on the Knicks every single day, and you do not want to miss out on all the recent Nicks updates. So, make sure to subscribe and turn on post notifications. But let’s jump into it because we have to talk about Michael Bridges. Man, look, Bridges recently signed a major contract extension with the New York Knicks, keeping them around until at least the 2029 2030 season. Obviously, barring a trade down the road that won’t be happening next season. And there was a lot of questions why this move was made, when it was made, and just a whole lot of questions surrounding the price. Was it worth it, what was this, what was that? And frankly, I loved the signing. Personally, I think it was something the Knicks had to get done. And the one thing they were waiting for was trying to figure out if Male was a long-term part of their future because even though they did give up five first round picks for him, there was still a question that he might not be a long-term Nick. And just jumping right into that and breaking down everything that was discussed, Samo mentioned that Male Bridges’s new deal includes a player option in 2029 in the 2029 30 season. The small forward who’s really just a wing in all sense of the word who has a trade kicker now is ineligible to be traded for 6 months. So for those counting, February will be passed by the time or will be around February by the time that male’s contract ends. So or his trade kicker ends. So we will be able to see exactly what’s going on with him in the future. And Sam Miko also mentioned that the Knicks got intel that Giannis Antakumbo wouldn’t request or would not request a trade or and will not for or from the Milwaukee Bucks before signing male bridges to the extension. The Knicks would have pursued Giannis Antakumbo had the two-time MVP requested a trade from the Bucks. All sign all signs point towards Antakumbo remaining in Milwaukee for the foreseeable future. Now Bridges he put up last season 17.6 6 wins per game, three rebounds, and nearly four assists per game, getting a steal as well. Shooting 50% from the field and 35.4% from three. Also shooting 42% in those corner threes that he’s very good at and he should be taking more of. He is a guy who is an elite corner three-point shooter when he gets his opportunities there. And now with the Knicks running an actual offense, male is set to have a better year than he did last year outside the tip’s freelance offense, but obviously he and basically everybody else in the planet is no Giannis on Kumbbo. It’s just the way it is. Giannis is elite. He’s a different kind of elite. He’s a top three player in the NBA. And because of that, obviously the trade package would have been massive. Not only is he on that $50 million contract per year, meaning that the Knicks would have to package Bridges and likely Josh Hart in order to make that big three of Jaylen Brunson, Carl, Anthony Towns, and Giannis. But now that we know it’s not happening, it’s one of those situations that the Knicks are still a deep team and it feels like that’s the way to win the NBA Finals. Now, obviously, I would have loved Yiannis. I’m not saying I wouldn’t. Look those numbers. 30 points a game, 12 rebounds, six and a half assists, one block, one steal, shooting 60% from the field, being one of the best defensive players in the NBA as well. Giannis is built different. But Tommy Beer mentioned that had Male gambled and waited until next summer, he would have been eligible to sign a 5-year deal worth north of 275 million, the Knicks did the smart and safe thing and locked him up right now. Now, on top of that, the Knicks are looking at Ben Simmons, who is an interesting piece here as well, just considering the fact that when you look at Simmons, obviously, I’m not trying to compare Simmons to Giannis at all. I’m not doing that. But the Knicks are looking for a forward who can hold the ball and handle the ball and be a passer and a playmaker. And obviously Giannis can do that amidst a million other things. That’s what Ben Simmons does. He’s a good defender and a good passer. The Knicks are looking very seriously at Ben Simmons as a real option for this team going forwards. And as long as they do that, it does make sense why they’re looking at Ben Simmons. It’s almost a fallback from Giannis. And again, I’m not trying to compare the two at all. One’s Ben Simmons and one’s Giannis. An offset there. But still, all of this does tie into exactly why the New York Knicks opted to bring back Male Bridges on that contract. And it’s a good deal if you ask me. I like the contract for the Knicks. Male was great in the playoffs with the Knicks. Wow, that graphic is crazy. We’re going to turn back there and pretend that didn’t happen. Look, Male was great with the Knicks, putting up 16 points per game, four and a half rebounds, and three assists in the 18 games that he played in the playoffs. Playing around 39 minutes tonight, Male was phenomenal. He didn’t shoot super efficiently, but he was back to being the elite defender, one of the best defenders in basketball, the guy that we traded for to begin with. So, seeing that was a huge sign of success for the Knicks going forward. And I absolutely love the move that they made to bring him back because he was a great play performer. He had two of the biggest playoff moments in recent Nicks history against the Boston Celtics. helping seal those two games with his defense at the end of those games, creating two amazing turnovers, one block, one steal. And when you look at all the guys who are listed, we’re going to have to go to this crazy graphic for a second so we can read it. You know what? I’m changing my mind. We’re going this way. Look, Jaylen Brown get of wings in general. We see Jaylen Brown getting $285 million. Male’s getting literally $130,000 less than that or 130 million less than that. It’s not like they’re that different that it’s it should be a $130 million contract difference. You look at Jaylen Williams who’s getting way paid way more than Bridges. You look at France Vagner, Oiana Nobi, Kevin Durant, Michael Porter Jr., Brandon Ingram. Male Bridges is then there at 150. First of all, male, he’s better than Jaylen Johnson still. He’s better than Brandon Ingram who’s on this list twice. Interestingly enough, yeah, Kevin Durant’s on a bargain if you just kind of consider everything, but it’s not like the Knicks overpaid for when you look at other guys like Jaylen Brown and Jaylen Williams. Yes, they’re both better than male, but they’re not some world different type of player that’s going to change everything at all. So, I think that’s a huge sign in the Knicks help is that the Knicks actually did get a bargain when you consider the way that two-way wings get paid. I mean, most of these guys are two-way players. Jaylen Brown and Jaylen Williams obviously are both two-way players. Jaylen Williams, one of the best uh burner defenders in basketball. France Bogner an excellent player good defender as well. We know about OG we don’t want to talk about him. It’s a Nick channel after all. Kevin Durant not exactly two week but not a bad defender by any means. Michael Portrun doesn’t play defense. Brandon is not a great defender. Jayla Johnson’s all right at defense. Kawas Kawawaii. And then you look to Trey Murphy who’s just good all around. Put up 21 points for Gab last year. He’s on a nice contract. But like outside of this the Knicks are they have a good contract here and OG’s getting paid a lot of money. Now OG’s great. I’m not saying he isn’t. When you look at everything it does make sense why the Knicks did this deal and I really don’t mind this at all for the Knicks. I think they’ve made good contract deals thus far. The craziest one being OG and that’s not that crazy. I’m not gonna count the Knicks didn’t, you know, sign cat to that deal. They just traded for him after. Now, Bobby Marks mentioned in the next three years the Knicks, the most important thing is the second apron and the Jaylen Brunson extension last year. And now Male Bridges has given New York flexibility to operate under both aprons. So, Male did the Knicks a huge solid by doing this. Something that he consistently kind of hinted at that he was going to do with the Knicks. Now, there was a thought that he might not take this contract and he would decide to actually try to get paid as much humanly possible. He opted not to do that. You got to shout out male for doing that. Ton of appreciation for male going that route. It’s really cool that he did. And just when you look at this Knicks depth chart, let’s say they’re on the same starters from last year. I really don’t think they will. I think Mitch will start, but that’s not the point of this. Look, when you look at their depth chart, male is going to play a great role with the Knicks. He’s still going to be a starter. He’s still going to get some of the most touches. And now it’s an offense where we’re going to see a lot of these guys get more even touches. It’s not going to be Jaylen Brunson ball of where Brunson has to dominate the offense the entire time because there isn’t a set flow and just freelance and picking roles and trying to figure things out. Male will have a role in the offense and because Mike Brown’s a genius of an offensive coach, he’s going to stick male in those corners early and often so he can get male his best looks. That’s Male Bridges’s best shot is the corner three and then that mid-range, especially at the elbow. Because Mike Brown knows how to coach offense, the Knicks are going to optimize those two things for male so he can be his best self. I really do think male is going to have the best year he’s had maybe in the NBA going into next season. I’m not going to only put a 26 point game on the Nets. The Nets were not doing well at that point. He was the only guy getting touches really. It was just him and not shading male at all. I’m just saying like he had way more opportunity than he probably ever will as a number one opt that was the only time he’ll ever really be a number one option. So when it comes down to it with male, I imagine that he’s set up for his best season yet. And I think this contract kind of looks like a bargain when it’s all said and done. I think the Knicks made a great decision. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments down below. Should the Knicks have done this? Should they have tried to push Rihanna? Would they have even been able to? What do you think? Let me know. Like this video, subscribe, turn on post notifications. Have a great day. Go Nicks.
