In 1986, the Boston Celtics cemented their dynasty. Led by Larry Bird, they defeated the Houston Rockets in six games to win their 16th NBA title. The Celtics were dominant at home, winning games 1 and two at the Boston Garden, where they went 41 that season. Houston’s Twin Towers, Ralph Samson and Hakee Olawan, powered a comeback win in game three, but Bird and the Celtics responded in game four. Game five turned chaotic when Samson ignited a brawl, fueling Boston’s fire. Back at the Garden for game six, Bird delivered a triple double, 29 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists as the Celtics cruised to a 11497 championship clinching win. Larry Bird was named Finals MVP, averaging 24 points, nearly 10 rebounds and assists per game. It was the perfect finish to one of the greatest seasons in NBA history. [Applause]
