Connecticut Sun Sold for $325M To Celtics Minority Owner, WNBA Coming to Boston in 2027?!
Big news uh out of Boston today. Uh the Connecticut Sun have been officially sold uh for $325 million plus another $100 million commitment for a team practice facility and potentially being moved to Boston as early as 2027. This is according to the Boston Globe. This is a huge huge deal. This gets the Connecticut Sun out of that Unisville, Moheaggan Sun kind of empty area. Gets them into a huge metropolitan area in Boston. Lots of fans there ready for a WNBA team uh that you’ve seen in the games against the Fever as well as the Sparks. Uh they fill up, you know, the the Boston Arena uh and ready for that. And you know, we’ve all heard the stories about the Connecticut Sun and their practice facility being like this rec center that they’re sharing with, you know, kids that are having birthday parties and all that. This is going to reinvigorate that region. I think uh that really creates that Boston New York rivalry with the Liberty and the Sun. Who knows if they’ll keep the name or anything like that. We’re a little bit early on that information. $325 million is a record sale for a WNBA franchise. And this uh continues the high dollars that are being moved around this league. Whether it’s, you know, people confident in the investments, people thinking big money is on the way with that new TV deal. This is why the CBA is so important in getting it straightened out across the board. If that much money is coming into the league, the players by proxy by accident will be making more money. So, um, like they say in the wire, deserve got nothing to do with it. Like it that’s that’s just the price of the brick is going up also like like the wire uh says. So 100 million for a practice facility plus $325 million. It’s a $425 million commitment. Let’s just make a nice round number and say $500 million. Uh, and it’s not like the Connecticut Sun are some glamour organization or anything. They were in Unisville, Connecticut. Uh, for Christ’s sakes. Imagine what, you know, the Indiana Fever would probably sell for right now. Imagine if the Liberty ownership was like, “You know what? 5 years we won a title. Let’s get out of here.” Imagine what they they could get for that squad. The relocation has to be approved uh by the league, which I don’t feel like they’re going to hold that up. uh they have an arena and it also continues the NBA city arena relationships and it’s going to be really hard for other ownership groups like Nashville uh to be able to get franchises. It’s going to be hard for other southern cities to try to get franchises where they are. So Steve Pagluchia was part of a huge private investment firm uh whole thing called Bane something I I can’t recall off the top of my head right now but but he was in part of the Boston Celtics for many years going back to when the Grusbachs first bought the team. He was around during the Big Three Celtics era pretty much all the way up through uh the last championship the Celtics won. He did try to buy the Celtics before uh they were sold but he finished in second place. Um, but now he does get his team uh and it’s in the WNBA and he’s going to buy that for a lot less than what the Celtics sold for. So, you can expect uh Connecticut to kind of come in with a similar mindset uh like the New York Liberty ownership like putting a lot of smart minds in because the Celtics are are really well-run franchise in the NBA. And the the better ownership that’s around the WNBA, I think the better it’s going to be for the players, better it’s going to be for the fans. there’s going to be smarter acquisitions. There’s going to be more money in general around uh to impress the players with to take care of their quality of life and you know ultimately make them better contributors uh to the game. So uh congratulations to you know the new ownership group and hopefully they do great things for the league. But what do you think about this possibly affecting the league? And uh this is another, you know, move that is, you know, radically transforming this league into what it used to be into what is going to be. This is uh on the heels of all the expansion, all the new CBA, the Caitlyn Clark effect, all these things are going to work in unison to kind of jumpstart this sport. And uh you know it’s it’s a long road, but man, the WNBA could really really end up you know a top tier sport at this rate. So uh anyway, my name is Rich. I’m up out of here. What do you guys think of uh the purchase uh of the Connecticut Sun and how it’s going to affect the rest of the league? So So my name is Rich. I’m up out of here. Peace. One lifetime.
🏀 The Connecticut Sun have been sold to Boston Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca for a record $325 million, making this the largest sale ever for a women’s pro team.
📍 Pagliuca plans to move the team to Boston by 2027, pending WNBA approval — and we’re breaking down what that means for the league, fans in Connecticut, and the future of women’s basketball in New England. And how the landscape of the league changes with the CBA as more money comes into the league.

So the Boston guy owns the team right now?
B
The W is going to have to give into the players CBA demands now. They can't afford to miss the 2026 season. The W is going to have to grow globally and challenge the European leagues.
Boston and Philly rivalry.
Does that mean the end of the flying Dido?
I’ve been saying Sun to Boston and CC to Boston since May! For the record. 😊
The players are still going to ask for more money
Sophie will be happy!! 😂😂
Thanks for the Breaking News! 🙌🏼💯‼️
So he likes losing money
Finally!
Headline of the article I read said, “Celtics minority owner buys sun”
My distracted brain was like “THE DUDE BOUGHT THE SUN!?” Then I came back to reality and realized it was talking about the WNBA team. 😂
Way too much for a WNBA team.
Gaels?
Bring CC to Boston!!! We got the fans base she will love!
Fuck yeah. Lets go. Finally can have easy access when Fever come to town as they play in TD garden. Connecticut is pain in the ass to get to
Cool now Indiana won't be the only place they complain about racism.
I figured boston or miami
I wouldn't pay 350 $$ for team considering they cant make simple lay ups and you can't laugh or boo without fear of getting kicked out of games and there's a team going to Boston and you can't boo …nba stop giving them 💰
The WNBA Board of Governors has to approve the sale. So, hopefully, they will.
People forget the Connecticut Sun were originally the Orlando Miracle 99-03
If you had been watching the Sun played some games in Boston as a taste and response was great so we need this was forthcoming. The current owners of the Sun, The Mohegan Tribe have been putting out feelers on a sale since last season. This would be a great move for the team. We shall see what the WNBA Board of Governors says…they have to approve the sale.
I still can’t believe the last place WNBA team sold for $325 million
The Sun are worth nothing, you’d lose money to own them. $325M for a TRASH WNBA TEAM???
Wait…. What?!
I’m confused. Why would you need to pay $325 million for a team in a league that doesn’t make a profit?
The Boston Coven!!! Bring the Witches!!! 🧙 🧙♀️🧙♀️
I’m disappointed, I really wanted the group of Houston to win the offer. I wanted to see the Houston Comets ☄️ back!
Boston getting a NWSL team and a WNBA team! That’s pretty dope!
