Knicks LOSE 2026 First Round Pick! Mike Brown CONFIRMS Important Role In Free Agency | Knicks News
We have a major update. The Knicks are officially losing their 2026 first round pick from the Washington Wizards. We also have an update on Mike Brown’s role during free agency. We’re going to break down all of these latest reports today. If you’re enjoying the content, please hit that subscribe button and have notifications turned on so you don’t miss any new content. And now, let’s get started. The Knicks lose their 2026 first round pick. Despite having limited draft assets, the Knicks have still found a way to add significant talent to this team. But that doesn’t mean that New York wants to lose access to all of their first round picks. But unfortunately for the Knicks, their 2026 first round pick that they have from the Washington Wizards, it will never convey. But I’m afraid it gets even more worse than that. Shout out to The Athletic for breaking down all of this information for us. They help us understand why the Knicks will not get that 2026 first round pick from the Wizards and why they can’t even trade it back to the Wizards for any significant assets. According to them, all of this brings up a pertinent question in theory that could resolve the Wizards dilemma. Why not proactively approach the Knicks and try to get them to trade that 2026 first round pick in its entirety? The short answer is such an effort would be nowhere near as straightforward or as sensible as it may seem. So, according to the Athletic, the Wizards have no intention of engaging in trade talks to get that conditional first round pick back from the New York Knicks. The possibility of swapping picks with Phoenix, though remote, is too valuable to give up. This no doubt sounds like a morbid way to frame the Wizards 2025 2026 season long before opening tip off. As soul crushing as it might seem, even though the Washington Wizards team officials would love to see their young players flourish in the next season ahead, the franchise nonetheless has an unquestionable incentive to rank among the league’s worst teams next season. So clearly this was a lot of information, but breaking it down, what did it actually mean? Essentially, it means that the Washington Wizards have no incentive to trade with the Knicks to get their first round pick back. Why is that? Because they have a first round pick from the Phoenix Suns. So, they have all of the incentive in the world this season to be one of the worst teams in the league. Number one, if they do that, they keep their first round pick for this year. It is true. New York holds Washington’s first round pick in 2026, but it’s top eight protected. And this is the last year it’s a firstrounder. If it does not convey this year, it turns into two future second round picks. And that’s exactly what’s going to happen for New York. Washington has no incentive to be a very good team this year. So that 2026 first round pick from the Knicks, it’s gone. Washington will keep that pick because they’re going to be one of the worst teams in the league. And they have every incentive to be that worst team. Not only because they keep their first rounder for this year, but also they get a chance to keep the Phoenix Suns first round pick. And to them, that is much more valuable. So that’s why given all the moves that they have made, all the picks that they have right now, even though it sounds like a great idea for them to go to New York and try to trade with the Knicks to get that first round pick back, it makes no sense for them to do that this season. The only thing that makes sense for them to do is to tank because if they do that, they actually end up getting more versus less. That means the Knicks officially at this point in time have lost access to that 2026 first round pick from the Washington Wizards. Unfortunately, it will turn into two future second round picks. But that’s not really bad news, is it? Because look at the second round picks the Knicks have picked up in recent years. New York does very well in the second round. So having two additional picks in the second round may not be that bad of a thing. The Wizards are clearly set up to be one of the worst teams in the league next season. They were one of the worst teams in the NBA last year. I believe they only won only 18 games. So what is the Washington Wizards win loss record going to be next season? Let’s take a look at the odd makers and see what they have to say about the Wizards and how many games they’re expected to win next year. Shout out to channel sponsor FanDuel, the number one sports book in America, for giving us these following odds on the Washington Wizards regular season wins for next season. According to them, their over for 20.5 wins next season is minus1 130 and their under for 20.5 wins for next season is minus 102. So clearly the Washington Wizards are likely going to be one of the worst teams in the association next season. So, the Wizards have every incentive to lose, not trade back for their pick, and are looking like one of the worst teams next season. Let me say it again. This pick will never convey for the Knicks. Even though they only had a second round pick this year, they were able to get Mohamd Di Aara, a second round pick who sounded like a project, but after you watched him in summer league, you can clearly see he is much further along than anybody gave him credit for. Pair with that great free agency moves the Knicks have made. Jordan Clarkson, Gerson Yabaselli, and they still have one vet minimum contract available to give another veteran player to add to this team. But that brings me to Mike Brown and his role in free agency. He’s the Knicks new head coach. So, what is he doing? What is he actively doing in free agency? What is his role in free agency for this Knicks team? Well, shout out to NBA insider Ian Begley for breaking down exactly what Mike Brown’s role in free agency is. He answered the following question on the latest edition of his mailbag. A fan asked him, “Hey, Ian Begley, just wanted to know if the new Knicks head coach Mike Brown will have somewhat of a say on who should get the final vet minimum roster spot on this team.” And here was Begley’s response to that. Yes, new Knicks head coach Mike Brown will have a say in the final veteran signing here. The Knicks and Mike Brown emphasized that there will be a collaborative approach between the head coach and the front office. That means that Mike Brown will certainly have a voice when it comes to personnel matters. Tom Thibido also had influence on personnel moves during his tenure with the New York Knicks. Thibido didn’t get every player that he wanted, but his opinion was definitely taken into account ahead of personnel moves. Well, there you have it. It’s not shocking. It’s not surprising. Honestly, it’s exactly what I thought it was going to be. Mike Brown working with the front office to identify which potential players make the most sense to add to this team. And if New York is interested in Ben Simmons, interested in Landry Shamut, interested in Malcolm Brogden, then that tells you not only is the Knicks front office interested in these players, head coach Mike Brown, he’s also interested in these players. And moving forward, the Knicks still have one more decision to make. And if we’re looking at everything the Knicks have done this off season, this next move New York is about to make in free agency, it’s about to be a very good one, a very impactful one. Even if that move is Ben Simmons or another player I don’t agree with, I don’t like, I am still going to support this Knicks team and support Leon Rose. Sometimes it’s hard to see the very good moves when they happen in front of your face. That’s because Leon Rose in this Knicks front office, every time they make one move, they’re always thinking about two or three moves ahead. So sometimes one move isn’t their final move. We know what to expect moving forward. And unfortunately, we have to expect a future that does not include that Washington Wizards 2026 protected first round pick. But what about you guys? What do you think about the Knicks losing out on that Washington 2026 first round pick? And what about Mike Brown’s role in free agency? Was it the role you expected him to play? Let me know in the comments section below, guys, because honestly, I would love to hear from you. But that’s going to do it for this episode. I hope you enjoyed it and if you did, go ahead and smash that like button, leave a comment below, and of course, guys, please subscribe to the channel. Until next time, Nick fans, take care of yourself, your families, and each other. Peace and
The New York Knicks are already down a draft pick and the season hasn’t started yet. According to a recent report, the Knicks will not receive the 2026 top-8 protected first round pick they have from the Washington Wizards will never convey but it’s worse than that because NY cannot even trade with Washington because the Wizards are waiting on Phoenix to have a worst season then even Washington will have. We also look at the role Mike Brown has in free agency this year… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

Imagine the Knicks still get the first round pick somehow 😭, I would be happy asl. But we all know Washington is tanking, plus the last time their pick fell out top 8 was 2018.
So Troy if the Wizards keep their 2026 pick the Knicks get 2 second round picks in 2026?
Watch ya, Simmons going to make his team decision today. I’m not saying he’s going to be a Knick though but he’s most likely making it today. We will see what happens.
We don't need that pick we stacked up
My prediction:
The Knicks will trade for Donte back in October.
Knicks your 2025-26 NBA championships.
I thought based on this title the Knicks lost their own 1st for next year lol. This is something I always expected to happen.
😂. Call Dallas to fix the lottery
Not necessarily gone because they can drop in the lottery. We saw the Nets drop to 9.
We do find hidden gems in second round picks so not stressing about that’s wizards 1st round pick
Don't even worry about the first round pick you'll still have two second round picks if needed we have a good squad this year that should take us to the finals. Go knicks.
Hi Troy, thank you so much for the update and I appreciate you💪🏽
Leon Rose job is on the line, because James Dolan want a super star on the Knicks and up to now it doesn't happen, all these signing Knicks are doing is to make a big trade,
The knicks only need the pick to use it for trade bait. We need vets not rokkies right now.
Picks are paid! For chi ching!$$ Do you think these billion dollar teams are gonna allow a bunch of lottery balls to dictate their teams futures. Its all cosmetic mirageous! For the fibal minded.
Officially? Doesn't the season have to play out first? And the reason NY does well in the 2nd round is because they have to. Rose doesn't seem to value 1st round picks much. AT some point he's going to hae to change that philosophy. IMO
Change your intro bro…. that let's get started bit is lame…. & stop yelling 😂
YO GOOD JOB BRO GOOD CONTENT!
If Washington finishes 6 ,7,or 8th Worst record They
Still can fall to 9 in lottery draw ! Bro another major nothing
See the Knicks can use some picks, develop some talent & use that talent to get Donte back. As far as the Wizards go, Wizards so down bad, they need to change the rules & make teams compete, maybe the best lowest trash team gets the 1st pick so like say if the Wiz had a better record then the other trash teams then they would get the pick. They just sitting on their ass just to get picks & do nothing with em. I don't care about that pick, we need Donte back.
I don't know why we get road so much of this credit on drive choices and you can't tell me you believe in dadiet and I think I think Nick fans get caught up in their own talent look around the NBA there's a lot of better teams a lot of lesser teams with better younger players than the Knicks case in point Summer League knick young players got smoked at some point in time all the talk is just what it is talk you need to start putting your chips in the center of the table and play ball no excuses
Washington could fall in the lottery. .
Go eat your spicy food
Do you just make shit up for contacts and followers
The two seconds from Washington are going to be pretty high second round picks. Those have a lot of value in the current CBA.
Slo media day. 🫤
