This Is A GAME-CHANGER For The Grizzlies… | Daily Grizzlies News & Rumors
Welcome back to this edition of Gri’s Daily. I’m your host, Malik. And this week is just full of a lot of disrespect for the national media. That’s this is no easy way to put it. The national media has simply disrespected the Grizzlies and it’s come in so many different forms that it’s like kind of unbearable at this point from the NBA having their all season power rankings basically saying and they I’m looking at this right now. They basically said the Grizzlies had the are the ninth best team in the all season, but that’s not the issue. The issue is that they put the Mavericks ahead of the Grizzlies and the Mavericks haven’t really made any moves outside of bringing in Cooper Flag. So, pretty crazy. But the one thing I really want to get into, uh, Tim Leggler, uh, ESPN analyst, uh, ESPN, NBA analyst, I should say, um, he basically said something that really just kind of rubs kind of rubs me the wrong way because I truly don’t understand why the national media has these low expectations for the Grizzlies. But basically, he basically said that the Grizzlies won’t be as good because John Mar won’t be healthy. Like he’s saying like the he said no, he said actually the Grizzlies don’t have a chance because John won’t be healthy. And this comes with ESPN, you know, the whole overunder win total of 40 and a half for the Grizzlies next season. Basically, calling them a 500 team going into next year. And all I have to say is while part of that statement is true, it really is depending on how healthy Jaw is. To say they have no chance is crazy. Like to say they have no chance is pretty crazy to me considering that the team did, in my opinion, got better. They touched on things that need to be touched down outside of getting a wing. Not not a wing. Getting another big that really helps them. They got wing players and they got a they got a decent big man in Jock Landel. Obviously, you know, you kind of wish they got better in that department, but I mean it’s doable. They did get better. But to say they have no chance at making the playoffs is crazy to me. Like actually crazy. Now, like I say, this year is dependent on how healthy John is. I think if the Grizzlies want to get far, they need John to play at least 65 games. You know, meet that threshold, make an allNBA team and just be in contention for a lot of things, but also just make a name for himself as like, hey, I, you know, I still am, you know, doing pretty good at the at the game of basketball. I just got to get healthier. And that’s something that we hope John Marin gets. But just the thought of the Grizzlies having no chance at all, but we’re giving teams like the Mavericks, the Spurs, all these chances and they’re still rebuilding, but the national media just swears up and down that the Grizzlies are rebuilding. It’s really crazy to me. Like one of his one of his uh think pieces was um the team he missed 32 games last year and they went 18 and 14. Keep in mind this is with the Taylor Jenkins system. We don’t know how he’s going to play in the Elo system. So, I think we really need to like just kind of relax a bit and really give it time and see how this really turns out before we just jump to conclusions that the Grizzlies have zero chance at all. So, I found that kind of crazy. It really just ridiculous at this point. I’m honestly not even shocked at the shock for real. And while on the subject of ESPN, they also released a list talking about their most interesting sophomores. You would think Zack Edy makes the list. He didn’t. Jaylen Wells made the list at eighth, but Zack Edy didn’t make the list, which is very, very, very interesting to me because Zack Edy when given the chance, he was a 20 rebound machine in Eel’s system. So, I don’t understand how we can say going into next year that he is just not interesting at all. You know what I’m saying? Like, how we how how do we go from a guy who’s a lottery pick at not Oh, I’m sorry. I thought something happened to my recording. I had to make sure we were still recording. I don’t I really don’t know what just happened now. But how do we go from the ninth overall pick to all of a sudden he’s not that interested? He’s playing with one of the most electrifying guards in the league. One of the more balanced lineups out there in the league in my opinion, especially in that division and conference. To say that Zack is not an interesting sophomore is kind of crazy to me. It really is because I think he is interesting. I think he has potential to really make noise and honestly win a rebounding title. Like I think Zack Edy given the amount of playing time and the rice and with easel system which we saw a bit of which allowed him to get those 20 rebound games. I think we’re talking a different ball game. So I don’t think it’s I think and also I think on the aspect of when we talk about interesting it can mean so many things and just to say that Zach Edi isn’t interested in Zack Edy’s development they want to see how Zack Edy translates his game to the league because let’s be real in the last few years Zack Edy has been probably the best college basketball player we’ve in the last few years and that’s just statistically. So, I think saying he’s not interested is just the national media just being like, you know what, maybe we forgot about this guy. We just forgot. And I wish the national media would say that, hey, we just forgot that this guy even existed because there’s no way you can’t tell me he’s not interesting. So, I find it very weird. I’m just like, how do we how do we go from that to that? So, it it was something that I just saw and I’m just like the fact that I’m seeing two lists that just straight up disrespecting the Grizzlies is it was kind of wild to me. But switching gears into something more positive and local. Uh Cedric Coward was at a camp I believe and one of the campers, this is a youth camp. They basically asked him saying like, “Hey, um what’s your favorite part of being on the Grizzlies?” and his answer living in Memphis. And that’s honestly something that is great to see and it was even posted by the Memphis Grizzlies Twitter account. Um great to see and obviously I was very high on Cedric Coward and it’s it’s good to see that he’s fitting well into the city. Um, obviously on the team we got to hope for the best when it comes to fit. But as far as, you know, his like just overall energy, it’s a good thing because a lot of people had a skepticism on how the city of Memphis is and how the Grizzlies are going to go from there, possible relocation, all these things. So to hear the newest guy come in and just say, you know what, living in Memphis is one of my favorite things or my favorite thing about being a part of the Grizzlies, that’s a great sign, great thing for me to hear. And it lets me know that he’s engaged and that the city actually isn’t the problem. Now hopefully you have to hope that other people take that into account, but they probably won’t because that’s just the reality we live in, not the society we live in. But I like that Sic is getting comfortable within the city. And I love that he’s finding his way into how things go and where he what he can do and how comfortable he can be. So that’s that’s definitely good. It’s good for morale and hopefully that translates onto the court. And as far as this injury, there is no real update at this time. We probably won’t find one for a while until training camp. And backtracking on Zack Edy, um he was at the Purdue alumni game uh not long ago. Obviously, he didn’t play, but he was courtside and he did not have a boot on. So, that is a very good sign towards recovery that we could see him. We could possibly see him ahead of schedule, but it’s only a matter of time. It’s it’s just depend on the reevaluation and what the team says, but definitely a good sign to see that Zach Edi is up and out of his boot and walking fine. Now, and in other good news before we end this off, the iconic, and I mean iconic, black Memphis jerseys from the 2021 season, that first year that the Grizzlies made the play in. It is returning. Multiple sources report saying it’ll be they they will be wearing the black classic uniforms in the 2025 2026 season. very very interested to see how this looks because I never got to see this jersey in person. So, I’ll have my first opportunity to see it. And it definitely looks like the Grizzlies are just kind of, you know, trying older things and seeing how they look. I mean, like I said, this jersey, I remember job wearing this jersey. I think like his third year in the league or second year. I could, it was like second, third year in the league back when there wasn’t really fans in the arena after the bubble. So very very very glad to see that this jersey is coming back. It is a very clean jersey and hopefully we get the court back as well. No telling on how no no telling on the court but hopefully we get the court and the jersey. So thought I’d bring that to y’all because I’m very excited and I definitely will be getting one when the season starts without a doubt. But as for this edition of Gri that is a wrap. Um I really don’t have much else. just some small little things. You know, right now it’s just more so opinions in the off season. Like I said, we’re approaching training camp, so not much going on, but most so just public opinion at this point. I have been enjoying your Grizz coverage. Keep doing your thing.
Go Grizzlies!
You cannot be surprised about their feeling sfor the Mavs. They drafted super white boy, no disrespect to Flagg, so they think the next Larry Bird has arrived (or the next Doncic) and that make the Mavs a championship contender.
Not remembering it took Flagg a long time to adapt to the college game and although Duke okay in the tournament, they wee knocked out.
This is a good thing!
They can put us last. That's fine by me as we go I g to be on they ass next year
So much will come down to how many games of Ja do we get. Its hard to bag on people for not believing in the team when we have a pretty large sample size of Ja not being available and the team sucking eggs when he is not.
