It’s NOT Over! Giannis Still Looking At Move From Bucks

Just when you thought it was safe to assume that Giannis Anttompa would be a Milwaukee buck this season, the latest report from Shams Trannia throws that all into question. Could Giannis still be on the verge of asking out of Milwaukee? I’m Trevor Lane. This is the Basketball Bulletin. Make sure you subscribe right here to the channel and turn on those notifications. We I figured this would be beyond resolved by now. I think all of us are are moving forward as though Giannis will be a Milwaukee buck for the foreseeable future, particularly this summer, maybe next summer. There have been some rumblings that team could be gearing up to try to trade for him, but Shams Trannia saying no, none of that is necessarily decided just yet. Check this out. What is the latest on his future with the Milwaukee Bucks? So, Pete, I’m looking at the date. We’re standing here. It’s August 4th, right? Sources tell me there’s still nothing set in stone about whether Jans enter into Kmpo will stay in Milwaukee or whether he will be leaving. And so he’s continuing to evaluate his future. I reported it in miday that he’s evaluating whether his best fit is in Milwaukee or is it elsewhere. And that process is continuing. Pete, there’s been some very real conversations over the last week or so. The constant question that Giannis has though is can I win a championship with this roster? Is this roster going to be one for this upcoming year and 2026 27? He wants to win a second championship. So he’s asking that question over and over. There are multiple teams waiting in the wings potentially if Giannis this off season still makes that. Could he have not asked that question in late June, early July before free agency? This is a very tough decision for him though. This is 12 years he spent there. There’s a lot of equity there. He won a championship there. This type of move isn’t going to be easy because this is a Milwaukee Bucks organization. They went out and they stretched and waved Damen Lillard $113 million. They did that because they wanted to show Giannis, we’re doing everything in our power to keep you here, but Jansen Koopo is the ultimate decider whether he feels this roster is good enough. Wow. Um, uh, a lot to say about that, but first and foremost, Bucks fans, don’t hear what I’m not going to say here. Don’t hear what I’m not saying. I think that ultimately Milwaukee will wind up with Giannis Anto. He will wind up staying for at least this season if not more. And frankly, I think that’s that’s probably the best outcome for everybody involved right now. But if Shams is talking about this now, August 4th, there’s a reason for that. When he said there’s been some very real conversations over the last week or so, that tells you that this situation is very much not resolved. So, what could all of this lead to? Well, first of all, Giannis could just tell the Milwaukee Bucks, “Hey, we’re good. I’m going to stay. Uh, he’s under contract, and that’s something that’s worth noting here, too. It’s It’s not like Giannis has an expiring contract next summer, and he’s going to be a free agent. He’s going to tell the Bucks ahead of time, hey, I’m going to leave in free agency, so trade me now.” And that’s not the situation uh that Giannis is in right now. He has two years remaining under contract with the Bucks. Has a third year as a player option there. So, it’s not like he’s got an expiry contract. And should he ask to be traded, I think this actually increases his trade value because teams can go into a trade for Giannis with a bit more certainty. He has at least two years under contract. He is 31 years old, but this is Giannis Antoupa that we’re talking about. This is an all-time great. This is a first ballot hall of famer. This is one of the best players in the NBA, period. So, if Giannis does say to Milwaukee, I would like to leave. The Bucks then have to decide, what do we do? Do we give in to this request? Do we tell Giannis, “Sorry, we like having you as a Milwaukee Buck. You have at least two more years under contract, and we expect you to honor that. That is a path they could go down.” But I think most likely what we would see happen is the Bucks would work with Giannis to try to find his next home. Now again, because he has two years under contract, that doesn’t mean it has to happen immediately. It doesn’t have to happen by the trade deadline this year. They could carry that into next summer if they wanted it to depending on how patient Giannis was willing to be. And in that time, the Bucks could obviously try to convince Giannis to stay while they are talking trades. But again, Shams noted that that what Giannis really is trying to figure out is can I win a championship with this Bucks team? And that’s where I really question this. Why is this coming out now? Why and why is that still a This is not new. This isn’t new in terms of the Bucks roster. It’s not like they free agency is just starting and I’m going to see what they’re going to do out there on the market. No, the the team is pretty much set. They have 15 players on guaranteed contracts right now. You know, 15 players under contract that this is it. This is the team. It’s not like there was just some major change with the roster yesterday and Giannis has to re-evaluate where do we currently stand or or there’s going to be a bunch of other moves around the Eastern Conference. No, this is August. Rosters are pretty settled. Teams have made the moves that they’re going to make. The East is what the East is right now. The Bucks are what the Bucks are. So, if you’re Giannis, and they have been for weeks now. So, what’s the holdup here for Giannis to decide, can I win a championship with this team or not? That is the thing that does not ring true to me. Is there some type of a trade that we don’t know about that Giannis is waiting to be executed? Is that part of this? What is going on here? Because this is not a decision that should take this long to figure out. Can this team win a championship or not? The Bucks are what the Bucks are. Their future is what the future is. We look at future draft capital. They’ve given up a lot of it in trades to try to make the Bucks better, to try to give Giannis a chance to win a championship. Look at all of the future draft capital that is now encumbered, that is now spoken for. The Bucks have really done just about everything they can to try to put a contender around Yiannis Koopo. And as Shams noted, they also I mean I I still admit a little bit of disbelief that they did it, but they waved Damen Lillard. They bought out and stretched Damen Lillard’s salary. Look at the dead money on their books. 22 and a half million dollars on their books for five years just so they could go get Miles Turner for Giannis onto Doopo. That’s the other piece to this. You’ve already made this move that was clearly to appease Giannis. Clearly, you’re making this move to try to show Giannis, hey, you can feel good about staying. We will do whatever it takes to help you win right now. Most NBA teams would not do what the Bucks did here with Damen Le. Most teams would not want $22.5 million on their books. And the prize of getting Miles Turner would not be enough to accept $22.5 million dead money sitting on their books. Now, Miles Turner is a good player, but most teams would not be making the same decision that the Bucks did there. However, the Bucks are going to look at it as if we get Miles Turner and this convinces Giannis to stay and he finishes his career in in Milwaukee, well then that’s worth it. And I agree with them. If that’s what it takes for Giannis to stay, $22.5 million, dead money on your books for the next 5 years, that is the price for Giannis to stay, great, you do that. But if Giannis now goes to the Bucks and is still saying, “Ah, I don’t know. I don’t know if I could win a championship with this group.” In fact, you know what? I don’t think I could win a championship with this group. Let’s talk trade. That would be absolutely disastrous for the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, they would still get a haul for Giannis Koopo, but they’ve got all that dead money sitting on their books to try to win right now. They went and got Miles Turner to try to win right now. And if Giannis still doesn’t think that this team is good enough to win, then that’s a heavy price to pay in future assets. And frankly, I do think that the Bucks have had a fairly strong summer overall. You add Miles Turner to replace Brook Lopez. Miles Turner a much younger version, a better version right now of Brook Lopez. You bring back Gary Trent Jr., you bring in Gary Harris, Torian Prince, you bring back on a nice value contract. Jericho Sim sticks around. Are any of these moves kind of power shifting moves in the Eastern Conference? No. But given the parameters that they had to work in, I think the Bucks have had a pretty strong summer. So, it has to be a bit disconcerting that Giannis still isn’t sure about this roster and whether or not they can win right now. Should he decide he wants to leave, there will be no shortage of suitors. 29 teams, every team in the NBA is making that call to at least find out what the price is for Giannis. and Giannis’s future. While it’s not set in stone that he’s going to want to leave Milwaukee, I still think the most likely scenario that we are in, whether we’re talking about this summer, next summer, whenever, is that Giannis will wind up staying with the Milwaukee Bucks. But if he looks at the roster and says, “No, this is not quite good enough. The Celtics are going to get healthy in a year. The Cavs might be better than us right now. The Knicks might be better than us right now. I don’t think this is where I want to be. please trade me. The Bucks would be able to get an absolute hall for him. Look, there’s a reason why teams are being very careful with their future salaries. The re there’s a reason why teams are trying to maintain their flexibility. There’s a reason why you’ve got multiple teams. You look at the Clippers, you look at the Warriors that are trying to pivot their rosters in 2027, which just so happens to be when Giannis Hans Takoupo would become a free agent right now. If he were just to stay under contract, he can hit free agency in 2027. if he does want to trade. There’s a reason why the Golden State Warriors are trying to get every last asset they can in any kind of assigned trade for Jonathan Kaminga. Why? Because they want to flip those things into a Giannis trade. That’s why. And they’re not the only teams that would be looking to do so. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that not getting Giannis in a trade would be a huge miss by all these teams that are piling up cap space, that are trying to pile up assets and things like that. They can always pivot and turn those things into other stuff and do other things, but Giannis is the dream scenario. If you can get him on the trade market, if you can get it, if you have to wait till 2027 to get him in free agency, he’s that good. Teams are already lining up for this situation. And it’s amazing to me that here we are in August and this is still unresolved with Giannis Antoupo and the Milwaukee Bucks. I don’t see what the holdup is here for Giannis, at least for this coming season. You know what the roster is. You know what the East looks like. I know Shawn said it’s a very difficult decision, but figure it out at this point. And I’ll tell you what, if Giannis does want to leave, it’s more difficult now than it would have been a month ago for Giannis Antompo to leave the Milwaukee Bucks. A month ago, you still had a lot of roster spots around the NBA. Teams had a lot more flexibility in terms of what they can offer, being able to to get creative with trades. the flexibility was much greater a month ago than it is now. That said, teams will move heaven and earth to figure out a way to get Jiannisto Koopmpo if he does decide that he wants out. But wow, I I am shocked. I had kind of put this to bed and thought, okay, you know, for at least this next season, Giannis Toopo will be a Milwaukee Buck, but apparently according to Shams, that decision has still not been reached. Everybody give me your thoughts. Why is this still lingering out there? Why has Giannis not ultimately made his decision on whether or not he wants to play for the Milwaukee Bucks? Not just for the I get the the long-term concerns, but even just for this season. Why is that decision still pending apparently? Give me your thoughts in the comments down below. 1. Lol, so nothing new. I doubt he's going anywhere this season. The Bucks can give him the largest extension. He's not leaving until he gets it…

  2. Before my fellow Laker fans say it: No, we can't get him. So don't even think about it. Our fanbase has to stop being so delusional.

Our package of Reaves, DK, salary filler and 2 1sts is not even enough for James Harden yet alone a top-3 guy like Giannis. Giannis, if he requests out, will probably be traded to Houston, San Antonio, the Clippers (surprisingly decent package with Zubac, expirings and 3 1sts), or New York.

  3. In my opinion, there is absolutely no reason for him to leave this summer.. next summer, however, he has way more control over what team he goes to because essentially he would be an expiring contract and could scare other potential teams away.

Milly did enough to say hey. Let's keep this partnership going for this year and see what next summer looks like.

I'd also argue the bucks are potentially one buyout player or one trade away from a real contender.

I hope Giannis stays put this season but would like to see him leave next summer for sure

  4. They're just stretching out, and I mean ESPN and the NBA, not this channel, they're just stretching out the new cycle. They might have even gotten the okay from giannis's agent just to sort of put something out there.
I have to admit, the more I hear just the concept of players and how they deserve to play for a championship, the more I am over it.
Even basketball is real life, you don't deserve anything.

  5. Tired of giannis always pump faking like he is going to leave. He has been doing that for 4 years. You are not lebron

  6. Lol don't worry he gon play till 2026 season and not extending so luka will recruit him and jokic in 2027 😝

  7. 3:03 I think you’re missing the point of why the conversation is happening now. If Giannis doesn’t sign an extension and plays through the year Milwaukee will likely get nothing for him. Teams aren’t going to trade for a guy with one year left because that last year is a player option. So they need to know now so they can make a decision. Teams aren’t going to trade for a guy they know can leave the next year by waving the player option. To get max value either he signs or they have to move him. Especially considering what a team has to give up when they can just wait for free agency.

  8. Better for jokic to come at lakers than giannis. Giannis can be a perfect pair for wemby or curry.

  9. He's waiting for the Jonathan Kuminga situation to sort itself out in Golden State. That's why the dubs are adamant about getting a young prospect and an unprotected 1st for JK, those assets are going to Milwaukee as part of a trade package.

  10. Yeah, I think every team in the NBA has an unwritten idea of what they would give up to get Giannis. Mine for the Rockets is. Sengun, Tari and Tate.

  11. Let’s be realistic. Except for Steph Curry, who has said he wants to retire a Warrior, nobody is guaranteed to stay with their current team. Giannis isn’t going to pull a Harden, show up fat and play like garbage to force a trade. One thing it seems that foreign players have that Americans don’t have is principles (Ben Simmons being a glaring exception). He’s made a commitment to Milwaukee and I believe he’ll honor it.

Shams on the other hand is committed to producing content. The free agency period has died down so there isn’t much to talk about. So he needs to rehash narratives from earlier in the summer.

  12. Giannis hasn't gotten thr Bucks past the 2nd Rd in 4 years. Including 3 straight first rd exits.

Milwaukee has bent over backward, trying to make him happy. Fired coaches, made trades, kept his brother on the team for years, etc.. Many of those moves have backfired, and Giannis has gotten a pass that other stars like KD & Lebron would be heavily criticized for.

Giannis won a championship for the Bucks, so he's a made man to their fans. The rest of us who aren't Bucks fans, we need to hold him accountable to the same standards we hold other star players to.

And point out that throughout his entire career, his team has most often suffered early disappointing playoff exits. FACTS!

  13. The Bucks will be playing w/ a salary cap handicap for the balance of Giannis' prime. He needs to ask out. If he does, the team that makes the most sense would be the Knicks. If I'm NY, I'm offering OG, Robinson, (a vet min contract to make the numbers work) & all tradeable draft picks (I think they have 3 1sts, tho 1 of them, the 2028, may be encumbered).

  14. This reminds me of something my brother once said before he died because I’m a black man with a clean record so others thought eventually I would be locked up…he told me people will say the same thing about you every year hoping that that year what they say about you they hit just to say I told you so…they have been saying the same thing about Giannis for 5-7 years about leaving lol

  15. Giannis just go to the Lakers man….. Luka + Giannis = championship. Just need Lebrun to be off the books for lakers to get Giannis

  16. So the ESPN generated story nonstory with LeBron and the Lakers didn't have the desired effect so now they switch to Giannis
