I Don’t Think We REALIZE What The New York Knicks Just DID…

So, the New York Knicks have extended Male Bridges. They’re giving him a 4-year $150 million contract, which is 37.5 million. If you look at OG on an OB, he’s on a 212 million 5-year contract. So, pretty similar. OG’s making a little bit more money, but you can’t hate the value at all because how many guys in the NBA can switch positions, create their own shot, and of course, play lockown defense? And I know you guys are going to bring up the Pacers series. Yes, male has to play better, but look at what he did against opposing point guards last year. You just cannot take that away from Male defensively. He takes us to a different level. And it’s not his fault that he also has to play with Jaylen Brunson and Carne Towns, two bottom five players at their position defensively. This year has to be about the defense and taking it to the next level. And it starts with Muel Bridges. It starts with OG and Mitchell Robinson is next up to get paid. Isaiah Hartinstein left us for the Thunder in free agency. Is Mitchell Robinson going to leave us in free agency? We’ll wait and see. But we’re much closer to being able to get a deal done with Mitch now that Male took a pay cut. Because if you go and you look at what he was eligible for some of you guys want to let me know. I don’t have that on me, but I’m gonna imagine it was probably like 45 to 50 million. Male could have got even more money and there would have been a team out there that would have paid him that. But he takes a pay cut. And one of the first things male said when he joined the Knicks was that he wanted to take a pay cut. He wanted to be here for the long run. And he didn’t lie. I think male has a lot better basketball ahead of him. Like guys, he averaged 18 a game on 50% shooting. He played good defense, not great defense, but good defense pretty consistently. And I think he’s going to benefit off of Mike Brown because, you know, Coach Tibs, you can say what you want. He wasn’t really the right fit for a male Bridges type of player. And you look at Brown and what he did to of course the Kings, they were the number one offensive team in terms of efficiency in NBA history. The Kings, with all due respect, they weren’t that talented. And what have they done since that season? They’ve done absolutely nothing. Dear Fox is with the Spurs, right? Like they fell apart. And Mike Brown, he comes to the Knicks just as a guy who he just knows how to get the most out of his players and it’s because he pushes them in practice every single day. And even more importantly than that, he’s going to take a lot of the pressure and the burden off of male. You know, it’s bad when you’re going up to your head coach after you’ve played in every single game since high school and you’re asking to reduce the minutes. And it’s not only because it’s going to add up and do a toll on your body. It’s because the Knicks bench it was pretty good last year. We found that out in the third game of the Eastern Conference Finals. We realized that, hey, Dylon Wright and Landry Shamut, they’re pretty good, right? we realized that these guys can ball. It was just too late to that point. The damage had already been done, of course, after the first really the first game specifically, but even the first two games like you don’t lose the first two games at home and then come back from that. It’s just so so rare to be able to do that. I’m excited about MueL Bridger’s future as a Nick. But this does signal that Giannis is not coming here. Now, I don’t think anybody listening expected him to, but we can firmly rule that out of the equation, right? we can take it off the table that Giannis is staying in Milwaukee because if there was even a 5% chance Giannis was leaving, the Knicks would not have done this. But they did do it and I’m pretty excited about it, too. And we can’t let last season change our perspective on Male because he was number one on my wish list coming into last season. This is a guy who was scoring 20 every single game, who plays high level defense. He’s very efficient. He’s a fun dude. Cool celebrations. Every time the Knicks play the Nets, it was always a good time. Once again, it’s just a matter of how can you mesh him in with the rest of these players because Jaylen Brunson needs the basketball in his hands and Brunson is not an offball player. I think he should be playing more off of the ball, which is why we’re going to be talking about Malcolm Brogden right after this video. We’re going to double up because I already had a Knicks video made. So, you guys are getting two Nicks videos tonight. Tyler Kick, I mean, you can’t play like Brunson and Kick together. It’s not going to work. Ducen, maybe a little Deuce McBride could play next to Brunson, but you just I feel like the Knicks need another guard next to Brunson. Not always, but at times just to to take him off the ball because how many ball dominant guards have won a championship? I I can’t think of one. Like Isaiah Thomas, I don’t Can we call him a ball dominant guard? Allan Iverson fell short to the Lakers who were a great team. Steph Curry is not a ball dominant guard. He’s always moving without It just doesn’t happen. And maybe it has. Maybe I’m an idiot, but I am more of a baseball guy. But yeah, I just I don’t really like Brunson being on the ball all this much. For one, it’s not sustainable and it’s never worked. And for two, you’ve got Carlo Towns. Like, why not run the offense through Cat a little bit more often? We saw that in game three where the Knicks were down, what was it, 20 points in the third quarter and Cat went an absolute I don’t even know you call it, I don’t even know, takeover. He went, he got in takeover. Cat got in takeover. He took over that game. Looked like a man possessed. He was on fire. The Knicks need that cat every single night. They need to give him the basketball, let him go to work. So yeah, I’m hoping that just Male Bridges can at least give him the ball some more and get him a little bit more opportunities because I felt like too often male was just kind of standing in the corner, not really involved. And I’d love to just run through him as well a little bit more. Same thing with Cat because we saw plenty of time Male’s capable of putting the ball in the hoop. he can create. And that fall away fadeaway shot. As efficient as it was, I like to see male go to the free throw line a little bit more often. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I get that. He can still take that shot. But also, Male does need to get to the basket because who’s really going to stop him? I feel like if you have a mismatch, you can’t just be fading away. You got to go up strong. That’s kind of my one thing about male. I haven’t looked at like too much film with him. So, I mean, I’m not that’s why I’m not giving like two specific in-depth examples. just for I did watch obviously every Knicks game, some of them most of them even twice, like three times, but in terms of like actual film is different than just watching a game, but I think it was a good start for Male because we got to realize like it just feels kind of greedy. Like I get five first round picks, but 18 points on 50% shooting with good defense. I mean, teams would kill to have male Bridges on their team and they’d be willing to give up or not even give up a lot, but they’d be willing to give him a lot. Like, he would have went for a max contract. Like, a team would have done that. There’s no question about it. So, the fact he takes a pay cut and remains with the Knicks and at the end of the day, like those draft picks, like what were they really going to do for the Knicks as well, there was a rare chance they were going to find like a Donovan Mitchell, Shay Gillis Alexander type of player with them because they’re always going to be good. Like, the Knicks are always going to be picking towards the back end of the draft. And you can argue that the Knicks really don’t even need those picks as well. Like remember when they traded down? They got like four first round pick or four second round picks and they got Tyler Kick and Kevin McCuller and Ariel Hookport. I mean yeah so there’s no need to have these picks. I’d rather have male the guy who can switch multiple positions that can shoot the open three ball. Male was elite in the corner. You know male say what you want about male and OG but when they’re open in the corner they’re knocking that down and they also can give you 18 to 20 a night. I’m excited about next season. I think a lot of people are underestimating Mike Brown. If you know, you know, though. This guy is very good coach and the Knicks are going to look a lot different next season, guys. I’m just super amped up to think about it. I miss the Knicks basketball so much. Like, my Knights are the Knicks. Like, I I literally just think about it the whole day is, “Hey, the Knicks are on tonight, man. The Knicks are on at 7:30 or whatever, 8:00.” And you just wait for it and wait for it and wait for it. So, when they’re not on, it just doesn’t feel the same. But of course, the months, the days, the weeks, the hours without Nicks basketball makes you appreciate it even more. And it also helps that we have the best broadcasting crew in the league and Mike Breen and Walt Clyde Frasier. And I think Ellen Han and Wally Zerbiaak do a good job also with like the pre and the post games. And Monica McNut, give her her love, too. She’s great at what she does. Yeah, the Knicks have an amazing staff, man. I just can’t wait to get back out there and make content for you guys. But for now, we’re gonna Oh, I thought my mic disconnected. For now, we’re just going to be talking about male and Malcolm Brog and Ben Simmons in my next video. But thank you guys so much for watching.

  1. If he waited till he was a free agent,Mikal could have gotten the max 4 years $250 million, and could have gotten more than $200 million right now,but went the JB route, and took less.

  2. I usually agree with your takes . Not this one. Mikal can’t guard point of attack, inconsistent 3, doesn’t go strong to hoop and overall is not a guy who plays with force. The only reason I like this move is that the Knicks now have control over Mikal and won’t lose him for nothing (future trade). With that said, I really hope I’m dead wrong and we see a different , improved , passionate Mikal this year.

  3. Agreed. Love JB but he is way too ball dominant and that takes the other players outta rhythm. Way too much ISO ball, really hoping Coach Brown emphasizes ball movement and spacing so the other talent on this squad can be optimized.

  4. just guaranteed no championships with this move…congrats…soft players dont win championships… made a terrible trade all the worse b/c no chance to get out now. dont see how knicks addressed their many glaring issues other than bolstering the bench a bit…and if this costs us Mitch foget it… still hoping the rooks and 2nd years can contribute. need them to now.

  5. seeing the word hope in every sentence..not the word you want in a 150 M player…there will be huge regrets…hopefully still tradeable when he has another mediocre season…

  6. Now that we got a discount I best not hear nooooo shit talking about mikal…I need Mitch to get paid though….like…please

  7. Yes Mikal was clearly better without Brunson on the court. That small stretch of time where he played without Brunson on the Knicks due to injury he was great. But I think the Knicks just need coaching that can get it all flowing and get him used a little more at a higher game speed. I think if Mike Brown wants to be amazing for New York that's one thing he needs to do.
