IT’S FOUL 🗣️ – Stephen A. sounds off on Daryl Morey’s comments on the Lakers 2020 title | First Take

We just want our respect. Rob wants his respect. Coach Vogga want his respect. Our organization want their respect. Laker Nation want their respect. And I want my damn respect, too. Yeah. Put some respect on his name. All right. It’s been 5 years since the moment where LeBron and the Lakers won a championship in the bubble on the Disney campus in Orlando. And a look back at the bubble at the athletic NBA executive Daryl my at the time with Houston. Now, the head of basketball operations with Philadelphia said this. Had the Rockets won the title, I absolutely would have celebrated it as legitimate, knowing the immense effort and resilience required. Yet, everyone I speak to around the league privately agrees that it doesn’t truly hold up as a genuine championship. Perhaps the lasting legacy of the NBA bubble is that the NBA should be proud of its leadership at both the beginning and the end of the pandemic, even though the champion will be forever marked by an asterisk. Stephen A. Smith. Are those comments fair or foul from Daryl my I think they’re very foul. Um and I think that he’s he he’s even wrong for bringing it up. First of all, it’s legitimate when you consider the times that we were living in. What they gave us, the Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis and those guys, we we can’t we can never express more gratitude than what they gave us. what Jimmy Butler gave us as a member of the Miami Heat and how he pushed them to that limit. There were people that didn’t want to be in the bubble, that is true. But the folks that stayed there that challenged for a championship uh that that that just provided us all such a reprieve from a a pandemic that ravaged this world for crying out loud. I can’t say enough about it. That was a hard hard thing to do. No question. And I don’t think that an asterisk should be a negative in this regard because they did something a lot of people couldn’t do and even more people wouldn’t even want to try. So I think that Daryl my was out of pocket saying that. But most importantly, look at what he prefaced his comments with. Had we won a title in Houston, stop right there. You were there for 13 years and didn’t win a title. You were there for 13 years and didn’t get to the finals and you’ve been in Philadelphia and their behinds are going so backwards badly so backwards that that people are wonder are you trying to qualify for the G-League half the time. Now that cat you know Edgecom along with uh uh you know Tyrese Maxi that’s going to be special to behold and if Embiid is healthy and Paul George is healthy is a different animal but my lord under his stewardship Philadelphia has been nothing to brag about. Houston never got it done. Why would you even give a quote like that about championships where, respectfully, Mr. Myy, it is something critics would argue you’ve been allergic to.

On First Take, Stephen A. Smith reacts to Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey saying the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 NBA Championship won in the bubble should be marked by an asterisk.

  1. It doesn’t hold the same weight and the Heat would’ve won if LeBron didn’t get luck out with the Heat not losing Butler, Bam and Gorgan in game 1.

  2. That depends who won the chip. If Bron did it then was not a real one, but if MJ did it was the greatest chip ever. Argument is just dumb…

  3. The only asterisk imo is just that there was no crowd. Theres no home court advantage. However, that affects both teams. It’s just a weird situation. At the end of the day, a championship is a championship. If it were your favorite team you would say it was legit. LeBron is so corny though 😂😂

  4. Question to the comments. If the bubble dont count, if LA/Bron lost would yall say the lost counts?? Would yall say he's 3-7 like some people love bringing up 4-6?

  5. It's legitimate just based on the fact that all teams had the same conditions. Does it compare to other years, probably not, but that's also probably true when you compare any two seasons (play style, rules, injuries, etc). All the teams that played that season wanted to win the chip, one team did. Btw, not that it needs to be said to make this true, but not a Laker fan (nor Lebron stan).

  6. Money said he would’ve been excited to win and that people around the league were saying it wasn’t shi!! Yall love click baiting putting dirt on people name chopping up interviews. And for people to act like they don’t have common sense anymore 🤬😂😂GOOFY SHI

  7. This comes up in my friend group. It’s a chip, everyone there had the same advantage.

  8. How can we respect someone who was EXPOSED writing to LeADAM SILVER to favor LAL to tell and reprimand the refs’ call against LAL vs DEN. Tsssss

  9. Media loves to lie and twist statements. Morey said that HE views the championship as legit and that others in the league don't. You all are attacking him over something he didn't even say. 😂

  10. Daryl Morey has years tanking under his belt and want to talk about what counts as a real win and a real loss 😒

  11. Why are they sounding off on Morey? As far as I understood, he sees/saw it as a legitimate title whereas the execs of other franchises do not? Obviously he didn't mention any names but still, this debate should address the other franchises and their GMs and not Morey 😅

  12. I never did thing much of that Bubble title and the reasons are apparent for a lot of people and if anyone is thrashing at anyone else for feeling the same, you're lame. You wouldn't call a half a car, a car, now would you?

  13. Love how this show focused on attacking Daryl Morey when he was expressing what others think around the league, and clearly said he personally sees the championship as legitimate. People do a great job of missing the point.

  14. The bubble ring was basically scrimmage games. No fans, no pressure, focus was on Covid 19. People were dying. While players who get paid millions were playing basketball.
