Have the Spurs MESSED UP?

Have the Spurs MESSED UP?

The Spurs might have just made a colossal mistake. Let’s talk about it. So, today the Spurs gave De’arren Fox a huge extension. Like, I don’t even know what you’d do with 229 million in Sacramento. But, of course, some people are hating on this move because the Spurs roster all of a sudden doesn’t really make a ton of sense. And obviously, the core issue here is that the Spurs just totally lucked into Dylan Harper and his skill set is not complimentary whatsoever to De’Aran Fox. Now, I would say, hey, maybe this could work if at least the Spurs role players could shoot. Carter Bryant, Jeremy Sohan, and Stefan Castle can’t. And speaking of Castle, I mean, he’s way too good to be relegated to some offball role. Again, I think I’m a bigger Fox guy than most people. I think he’s an easy top 30 guy in the league. I think he’s a stud, but it just feels like the Spurs made that trade cuz they had to get Webby some help. Then the Harper thing happened and now they’re kind of handcuffed to their own grenade. Basically, like it’s all fun in games when you get to draft someone like Victor Wanyama until you have the pressure of not messing it

  1. Honestly, you're making all true points here..Sochan and jumper?! I don't think it's actually legal to put that in the same sentence. Can't be. I need film proof šŸ§¾šŸ˜‚. At this point, you might as well play with a bunch of non shooting defensive bigs, because they can't shoot anyhow, least you'd dominate the inside and boards šŸ˜‚.

  2. I think we’ll have to wait and see how this coming season goes for them before saying it’s a mistake

  3. As far as timeline I think the spurs should’ve traded Foxx. He’s told old to grow with the young talent. They should’ve traded him for Ace.

  4. They are gonna trade fox most likely.b4 the end of the season its way easier to.trade somebody on a 4 year contract becasue the team that gets him will.have for years instead.of it being a rental.watch out for hom.goin to phoenix houston or miami

  5. Maybe there’s a possibility that this years draft class outside of Flagg are viewed primarily as role players and they don’t see their picks in 2025 being anything more than complementary.

  6. It gives Harper time to develop lmao how is it a mistake once Fox contract ends they can go from there. Also it’s like y’all just forget they have have Julian Champaigne (who they got for cheap btw) & Harrison Barnes who shot the ball good this passed season.

  7. I think taking the best player available will pay off in the long run. Fox can help them now, and they can trade him when Harper becomes a star. Or if Harper doesn’t work out, they can hold onto Fox. I do agree it’s an awkward fit right now, though. The lineup could use some better spacing. I think they gotta trade Castle for someone who can help their shooting.

  8. Listen, they knew they had to give him an extension. What was the point of getting him in the first place just for him to be out for the rest of the year because of his hand give me a break. They’re gonna have to deal the Spurs never been in this position anyway, because everybody took pay cuts and they used to getguys that knew how to run the system so let’s see what happens

  9. I think it gives them a ton of flexibility. They can use this contract to match salary with a star in the future if Harper or Castle turn into something real, or they can trade Harper / castle and keep Fox if it’s looking like that’s the best move. This way they can win now, win later, and have roster flexibility to align with wemby’s development. This is why the Spurs are the best franchise to be drafted to

  10. after already trading for him, giving him this kind of extension is 100% the correct move, remember fox specifically wanted to be traded here, we wanted him, now that we have him do you think it's a smart idea to say "sorry but plans changed we're not going to extend you", that's an awful look

you can argue that we shouldn't have traded for him, but the respect for the organization is the main reason he's here in the first place, it's not a good idea to ruin that, it wouldn't make any other star want to come to san antonio if we screwed over fox now

  11. Guys, obviously they won’t start Harper with fox he’s gonna be the second creating guard and castle is going to be the guy who catches the ball and creates for wemby and create a big slashing problem

  12. So, what exactly would have been the better move? Drafting for fit instead of grabbing Harper? Delaying the rebuild a few years to see if Harper or Castle develop into a star guard? The fit is not ideal atm, but the team is also super young and they’re drowning in trade assets and quality pieces that can be traded for better fits

  13. The spurs need to trade keldon Johnson because it looks like he the new Bradley Beal robbing the franchise that one’s the mistake

And Devin vassell he needs to be traded to because he’s robbing the franchise too

And the Spurs need to get the coach like Mike Malone already

  14. "no shooters" bunch of young guys in an offseason who can learn to shoot, check. young guys are super excited to be making a difference, check. young guys want to be part of a winning team. check.

  15. You said "some people". Some people are stupid so…. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Don't forget what they traded for him. Also, they have the money to spend with no max player currently. Castle played off-ball a lot.

  16. I mean, by the time the contract runs out Harper will be getting into his 2nd contract and Castle will just have begun his. If they give enough focus on their development this can work pretty well, especially with trade possibilities.

  17. Nah Sam Presti just proved that you should build your team like we all do in 2k. You always lock up the guys of value. Then you can always trade them later.

  18. Harper is a teenager. No need to put pressure on a kid to be your leading point guard on a playoff team his first year, that will mess with his development… and we all know how good the Spurs are at developing their players.

  19. I like Fox a lot and his fit with Vic makes total sense but there was no pressure to make this deal happen and the number on that extension is crazy. I just hope the Spurs don’t feel rushed in their opportunity to build a title contender around Vic. This could work out wonderfully but I could also see them turning into a situation where they haven’t had as much team success as they would like in the loaded west just to end up trading young pieces for more established role players. Teams get real expensive real fast in those situations and teams are proving that cap purgatory is a terrible situation. Just look at the Bucks

  20. Paying De'Aaron Fox $229M over 4 years is not smart at all. At $57M a year, his contract eats up cap space, limiting flexibility to build around Wemby, Castle, and Harper. Fox’s 19.7 PPG and 27.4% 3PT in 17 games last season don’t justify a max deal, especially with his pinkie injury concerns. Smart team-building prioritizes depth over overpaying a good-but-not-elite guard. This will come back to haunt them!

  21. Man shut the fk up about it… idk what you think Steph is but he’s not all that. And carter can definitely shoot, fox is an all nba player. Spurs HAD to pay him his contract is exaggerated. They had an agreement in place when they traded for him. And saying foxs game is ā€œbuilt on speedā€ do you even watch him? I can’t stand you

  22. Spurs is playing the long game and win now game at the same time for Wemby. Guys like Harper and Castle are all on rookie contracts and wouldn't be prime yet even after Fox's contract is up. They're trying to win now by signing Fox then switch priorities to their young guys once they develop their game in 4 years.

  23. Fox is mid big stats bad teams one good season , we’ve seen these players all throughout time. Trade him let castle, Harper and wemby rock out
