BREAKING: The Celtics Just Signed Chris Boucher

Now, how about them damn Celtics? All right, we’re back shortly after we recorded the George Yang video, which you’ll probably see at some point soon. Uh, Celtics have signed Chris Buchet to a one-year deal, now leaving the Raptors. Buché will come into a depleted, to say it kindly, Celtics center core with a chance to probably earn real minutes this season and maybe even compete for the starting job. Uh, but yeah, Buché is in Austin. Yep. uh spent his whole career with the Raptors before this. I believe one year $3.3 million for the Celtics to sign Buché according to Shams. This brings them back to 5 million over the first apron. Still significantly below the second apron, which is a good thing. And it does add more depth to what was a bare center core. I mean, I wrote about Nimi playing for Portugal and Eurob basket today and like, whoa, this guy’s going to have to do everything. Not everything, but have to be the starter for the Celtics this year, and probably is still the starter, I would say. But Chris Bush is definitely a different look center than anything the Celtics have. He’s somebody who will stretch the floor for you. He’s not very muscular, but he is somebody who will play defense and try and protect the rim the best he can. He’s got decent length, but he’s a little undersized at 6’9. Almost more of a power forward actually. Like after losing the Yang, he’s somebody who you could see sliding in at the four. I I I don’t think he’ll play the four. I I don’t think he’s played the four. I mean, maybe I’m wrong. Um does he space the floor well enough to shoot the four? What he shoot last year from three? I I 36.3 last year from three. What did he 99 attempts career high in attempt or tied for the highest attempts in his career. He spent he spent 91% of his minutes last year at the five. I guess theoretically if they want to change it up, but I just I don’t know. I I don’t know if he is versatile or versatile enough defensively to play the four. Who knows? I mean the Celtics where they can try a different look. Definitely different than the rest of the big men they have, which is a good thing. I think they kind of needed this. It gives them flexibility at the position where they’re really in a offense they think they could use a five out situation. Then Buchet is the guy they could turn to. Maybe he’s a good fit. He’s 32 years old, so he’s definitely not young. He was on the Warriors for one year, so I misspoke. Played one game for the Warriors and then played the rest of his career with the Raptors and now he’s with the Celtics. 46 games for the Raptors. One for the Warriors according to basketball reference. Pretty funny. Um, I mean, listen, interesting thing though. I I like that they went and got a guy that could shoot the ball with with some size. Yeah. I think the biggest thing with this is it doesn’t give the rest of the Celtics room. I I don’t want to say the freedom to mess up, but if Nimish Kada commits four fouls and is very clearly just not developing the way the Celtics want him to, Joe Misoula now has a body he can say, “Okay, I’m gonna pull you. I’m gonna put in Chris Bashet.” And I’m not saying Chris Bashet is a world Peter, right? He’s not Luc Cornet. He’s not Al Horford. He’s not Porzingis. nowhere close to the guys that they had last year, but he is a legitimate NBA center who has played legitimate NBA minutes for five, six years now. Like he is a body you can trust to get in the game and be like, “Okay, this guy is going to give me a decent 20 to 25 minutes a night.” With that, if Kada is not developing the way they want, maybe you could see him slide out of the rotation. I don’t think that’s going to happen. I do think Nimish Kada is going to have some leash. I would be surprised if um Chris Buché steals the starting spot from Nimish Kada. I still do think they believe in him if I had to guess. Like they’ll probably give him the spot and Chris Buchet will be the backup fighting with Luca Garza. But if either of those guys don’t have the best game or they’re not playing well or they’re going through a rough patch this, you know, somebody gets hurt even like this gives them an option. Um it also throws more question marks into the idea of I wonder what’s going to happen with Amari Williams. Um because now they have R.J. Lewis, I believe, on a two-way contract if that’s how the trades end trade ends up uh working. So maybe this was the way to do that. Maybe now they can let Xavier Tilman go. Regardless, adding a guy like Chris Pchet, who is a legitimate NBA center who has proven himself to be a quality rotator center uh rotational center, excuse me, in the NBA is good for a team with Pton Pritchard, Jaylen Brown, and Derek White, who very clearly aren’t going to want to take or aren’t going to be desperate to tank. Yep. And the only other, well, I wouldn’t say only other time, but the year where he played the most minutes per game was 2020 2021 on the Raptors. He finished eighth in six man of the year voting, 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, shot 51% from the field, 38.3% from three on the same volume of threes as he shot last season. Last season, he had his best numbers since that year. I don’t really know what to make of it. only appeared in 50 games. The minutes were higher than it was in the year prior, but I think this is somewhat worth a flyer, but it’s not like he’s young either. Like, it’s not like, oh man, if this pans out, then you can keep him around for a couple years. Like, can you keep him around for a couple years? Yes, but he’s probably going to be a depth piece rather than somebody you rely on to play real minutes for you. I mean, it’s not like the Celtics have center depth anyways. Like, you do need center depth eventually, right? Like we’re talking about this year as if it’s going to be the only year in existence for the Celtics. They need centers for when Tatum comes back. Cuz if you get Jason Tatum back and are then trying to compete for a championship again and your center cores, Mish K, Luca Garza, Amari Williams, you’re probably not going to win a championship. I’m not saying Buché is going to be a starter on a championship team. I don’t think he’s that good. However, could he be a backup on a championship team? Sure, why not? Right? If you put the right team around him, like I think this is a good flyer. Can he fit in the system? Can you improve the three-point shot even more? Does he work on defense? He’s not going to be anything crazy. I don’t think he’ll be a starter for this team. I don’t think he’ll be a starter for the Jason Tatum team when he comes back in 2026. But could he be a backup on that team? Absolutely. And I guess there’s no better time to start looking for a backup than right now when you’ll be able to give him a ton of minutes. So, um I like it. I like Chris Buché. I I don’t think he’s incredible. I don’t think he’s awful. I think like you said, he’s gives a different look than than Mish K is the Luca Garzas of the world. I think the Celtics have three very different centers on the roster, which is probably a good thing. I think you can probably have Chris Buché play some help over defense a little bit if you get the right guys on the floor guarding the big men, especially against smaller lineups. Maybe you can play him a little bit at the floor if you really trust his shooting. Um I I guess that Raptors team was a little bit different if you want to play him next to me in some double big lineups with him as the helper. I I could see the vision. Um I just don’t know how great that’s going to be for your offense. Um but we’ll see. I mean, he could put the ball on the floor a little bit. We’re seeing in some of these clips. Uh I like taking the swing here. There’s really no downside to signing a guy like Chris Buchet. Maybe some people are going to be upset they didn’t get a Charles Bassie or someone younger, but um at the end of the day, you also need to sign guys who could potentially help you on the Tatum team. Uh also just re the RJ Lewis uh trade thing. Keith Smith tweeted, “RJ Lewis is signed to a two-year two-way contract. He’ll fill the Celtics open two-way spot. Boston other two current two-ways are Miles Norris and Max Scholga. Chris Pay will be on a vet minimum deal and will fill the spot open buff by trading George Nang.” So, it sounds like they don’t really want to fill that 15th roster spot. That’s something else you can take away from this is they waited to sign Buché until Georgian Yang was traded. So, something else to keep an eye on. Yeah. And I’m sure that has a little bit to do with the aprons, but it makes sense. And if you’re Boston, why bother? Why bother signing the roster spot? Ultimately, you’re not trying super hard to compete for a title right now. If you keep it open, you can convert a two-way guy. maybe towards the end of the season, open up another two-way for Omari Williams, which would be probably good, and then go from there. Uh, but Bush is worth taking a flyer on for sure. I think he’s somebody who can give them the different look, which we talked about. And I think it’s important, especially the way the Celtics have played basketball over the last couple seasons, having somebody who can shoot the three is going to be just an extra asset for them in this weird season of playing platoon center. We’ll see what happens. Let us know what you guys think of the Chris Buché signing. Um, again, I don’t think this will mean he’ll, you know, start over Nimish Kada, but I do think it gives him a legitimate option if Joe Missoula wants to move away from some guys if they’re struggling. 1. Yes, and I do believe if look at the highlights against Boston. He was a problem on both ends of the court. Anfernee Simon also put up numbers against Boston last game which was a close win.

Payton Pritchard had 40 and 4 assists

Anfernee Simon average 18 points and 4 assists

He had 30 with 6 assist.

Me personally think Boston should sign him as well. Along with White. We would have two experienced PG's to contend with legs on the west better.

Defense. Ball control.Inside outside scoring ability.

Hand quickness, endurance , strength, speed, mental toughness.

Chris was a excellent choice in that war room of shamrocks. .

  2. Bit of a weird one considering it's just 1 year? But maybe they want to test the fit in the team. Will probably start at the four?

  3. I love it. I have been hoping for a Boucher trade for a while. I think he’s a great fit at 4 and small ball 5. We can also go big with Keith and Chris together.

  4. Yall are wack … try entering a basketball court with an actual basketball ball …. horrible horrible

  5. If you pretend the 2nd round picks went to Boucher instead of to Ainge for Niang it’s an easier pill to swallow
