Boston Celtics Sign Chris Boucher & Trade George Niang To Jazz For RJ Luis Jr
The Boston Celtics reshaped their roster in two swift moves. Boston sent veteran sharpshooter George Nyang, who they received in the three team trade that sent Kristoff Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks, to the Utah Jazz with two second round picks attached in return for rookie RJ Lewis Jr. out of St. John’s. The swap slashes Boston’s luxury bill by over $43 million, going from $73 million to 30 million. This was done by offloading the $ 8.2 million contract that George Niang was on on an expiring deal that he’ll play in Utah, a team that he previously had played for before his time in Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Atlanta. Right after that series of moves, Chris Boucher, a champion with the Toronto Raptors, signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal. He looks to be slotting in as the team’s starting power forward in this year’s upcoming season. He’s a guy who can be a switch big and a three ND front court player. He has the potential to be a solid contributor who could maybe be flipped at the deadline to a contender or pull of Javvante Green and asked to be released after the deadline to join a contender. Either way, this move is huge now that Luga Garza, Neimus Kada, and Xavier Tilman were the only true front court players on the Boston Celtics roster besides Amari Williams who has yet to sign a contract. So is TBD if he’ll be on the roster. But Brad Stevens is showing so far that his GM front office acumen might be just as good, if not better, than his coaching abilities.
