The Jonathan Kuminga Situation Just Went NUCLEAR

The Jonathan Kuminga Situation Just Went NUCLEAR

They believe he’s going to be on the roster. Their stance is he will be on the roster to start next season. And if that’s the qualifying offer, that’s what it is. The concern there, the flip side of that is the messiness of this. The Warriors never got close to offering Jonathan Kaminga anything in the ballpark of 30 billion. He brings a lot. I mean, they drafted him number seven overall in the lottery, you know, in 2021. And he’s he’s gotten better every single season. Can we stop acting like just because a team drafted a top 10 player ever? two GMs ago, one owner ago, over a decade ago. Because that happened, everything that this team does, the Warriors, there’s some chestnut checkers plan. There’s not. They mess up the Jonathan Kaminga situation. Malikica, this is turning into a battle of control over the short and long-term future of Jonathan Kaminga. He wants to go uh and the Kings are offering a starting spot. Power forward next to Keegan Murray, next to Sabonis. He’s talked on a Zoom call with Scott Perry, as you know, the GM. BJ Armstrong, the assistant GM, and and also with their head coach. Okay, so he’s in. This is the weirdest standoff that the Golden State Warriors have had in recent memory. Is this a team held hostage by a single player, or is it the worst mismanagement of an asset seen in the last decade? Now, the Warriors started the offseason on a lower note than usual. While this is mainly due to the fact that they were second round exits, the surrounding factors have played a significant role as well. The championship core is getting older. They don’t really have a young core that they are willing to pay and the discourse surrounding Jonathan Kaminga and the Warriors plans for him have dominated all summer as any move they make will have to go through him. Because of this, of all 30 teams in the league, the Warriors are the only ones who have yet to make an offseason move. Midway through last season, the Warriors were under a ton of pressure to get Stephen Curry some help. While a lot of signs pointed to Jonathan Kaminga becoming a second option next to Steph, an ankle injury sent him into rehab and forced the Warriors to make a move they had been considering since last summer. That move eventually became the trading of Andrew Wiggins for Jimmy Butler. There’s reason to believe that Jonathan sees Jimmy as his replacement. We actually covered this in a video almost a year ago and rumors were a buzz on social media about JK wanting to get a Max contract. Obviously, the Warriors saw things differently and instead of offering any contract to JK, pivoted to focusing on an acquisition of Butler. The idea wasn’t to replace JK completely, however, but more of a complimentary stop gap to help Curry and presumably his final years. Seems the misunderstanding is leading to a bit of self-destruction on both parties. What’s going on, and what is the likely outcome for JK and the Warriors going forward? Watch the entire video to find out. you’re about to get. [Applause] It’s a bad look on the Warriors in my opinion, Malikica. One, because I get it with with the information that Jonathan Kaminga is saying he’s going to bet on himself, but it’s hard to walk into a locker room and bet on yourself when a coach has shown you time and time again that at any given time he could pull you out of the rotation. It seemed starting the off season that Jonathan Kaminga was a part of the Warriors plans. However, they may not be a part of his plans. The Warriors hope to bring him back, and recent reports have them making him an offer of just 2 years and 40 million. Kaminga’s camp refused this offer, not even responding to it, only for the Warriors to increase that offer in hopes of enticing him. This new offer was for 2 years and 45 million with a team option on year 2, presumably to combat what has been Jonathan Kaminga’s most lucrative offer up to this point. So, what was this lucrative offer at this point in the game? Two teams have fielded serious offers for Jonathan Kaminga. The Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns. Both the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns offered Jonathan Kaminga packages worth around $90 million over the course of 4 years. This gives Jonathan Kaminga long-term guarantee, something he and most NBA players prefer. This was the deal the Golden State Warriors countered with their $45 million offer as it has the same yearly return. But that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface as this deal is littered with nuances that puts Kaminga’s career at risk. Jonathan Kaminga’s camp has pointed out that the team option on year two of the Warriors offer poses a big problem. They pointed out that signing the 2-year deal with the Warriors, who have strung Jonathan Kaminga’s career along for four years would give up too much control of his future. But not only that, the Warriors are also requesting that Jonathan Kaminga give up the inherent no trade clause that comes with the qualifying offer. Why is this so bad? This would mean that JK wouldn’t be able to choose the team or situation that he goes to, something he obviously finds important, especially considering he spent his first four years under Steve Kerr, only to end up not having any value whatsoever. We’ve seen tons of players at the college level enter the transfer portal in order to find a coach that sees the value in what they bring to the table. For a quick example, look no further than the team’s very own Brandon Pajki, who barely played any minutes as a freshman before transferring to Santa Clara. Not only was he now ranked after being trusted and given the freedom to play his game, the Warriors selected him 19th overall, he made the all rookie first team and is now a starter on the team. Jonathan Kaminga obviously didn’t go the college route and received no such opportunity at any level after leaving the G-League. So, what would it take for Kaminga to return to the Warriors? It’s been said a number of times that JK wants a contract in the range of 30 million. Now, while the general consensus is that it is true, the fact is during the summer league, his agent proposed a deal to the Warriors for 3 years and 82 million, one which allowed the Warriors to stay under the second apron and utilize their mid-level exception to acquire Al Horford. Because, let’s face it, the Warriors are a second apron team by virtue of the Jimmy Butler signing and the intention to retain a talented young player whom they view as such. This contract amount is less than the 30 million that has been floated around and this reporting has been confirmed by Shamstrania and Anthony Slater, both of ESPN. This obviously wasn’t accepted by Golden State, who prefers what is essentially a one-year deal with only $20 million guaranteed compared to the 90 million that he would be guaranteed playing in Phoenix. The next question is, if the Warriors don’t think JK is worth that much, why don’t they let him go in either of the deals proposed by the Kings or the Suns? The answer to that is fairly simple. The Warriors want to get Jonathan Kaminga’s full value in a trade. The new collective bargaining agreement means that teams can only get half of a player’s value and essentially makes sign and trade deals worthless. The hope is to get him on a very team-friendly deal that they can trade at the deadline as an expiring contract. This gives JK nothing in return aside from a one-year payout and is actually contradictory to what he’s really looking for. He’s not looking for a handout. So, what’s JK’s angle? He’s looking for that opportunity to prove himself. He’s looking for playing time on a team with a coach that trusts him on the floor or allows him to play through his mistakes and let him correct them, something he has yet to receive in Golden State. It’s fair to mention that other talented young players from his draft class who did receive those opportunities are now getting paid. It is also fair to say that this situation has been mishandled since the start. And while we’re not privy to all the happenings behind the scenes, considering the way things have played out, especially in the light of Looney situation, it’s pretty easy to see what’s happening. And here’s what it is. The Warriors gave up their 2020 number two overall pick for a player they’re letting walk this off season. While James Wiseman has had his fair share of issues, the Pacers have resigned him to a contract to play next season. Payton, on the other hand, is still waiting to be signed in free agency. In the absence of Miles Turner, it might finally be an opportunity for Wiseman to play as he’s always been troubled with injuries. The Warriors followed up with losing a talented player in Jordan Pool whom they traded for an expiring contract and Chris Paul who also left the team for nothing. This is their third goround. And by hell or high water, they do not intend to also let another lottery pick go without getting maximum value. That is the Warriors angle. Now, while the microscope is on the Warriors and Jonathan Kaminga, this situation is being replicated across the league this off seasonason. They include the Bulls and Josh Giddy, the Nets and Cam Thomas, and the 76ers and Quentyn Grimes. All of these players are currently restricted free agents with less than desirable offers on the board with their host teams unsure of what to do at the moment. So, this is not to say the Warriors are becoming a dumpster fire. They just happen to be under the spotlight. The Phoenix Suns offered Grayson Allen, Nick Richards, Oso Igodaro, and draft compensation to the Warriors in exchange for Jonathan Kaminga. An offer which the Golden State Warriors refused. The Phoenix Suns actually made a second trade offer to the Golden State Warriors for Jonathan Kaminga. That offer included Royce O’Neal, Nick Richards, and four second round picks. The Kings have offered secondyear guard Devin Carter, Dario Charge, and two second round draft picks. Yet, the Warriors continue to refuse to trade Jonathan Kaminga to a team that’s interested in playing him. Needless to say, this is starting to reflect very poorly on the team and not so much on Jonathan Kaminga. At this point, Jonathan Kaminga would rather take the 2-year and $45 million deal elsewhere than return to Golden State. This is Klay Thompson 2.0 all over again, and the Warriors better act fast before they lose Jonathan Kaminga for absolutely nothing in free agency. But let me know what you guys think of the situation. Should Jonathan Kaminga accept the Warriors 2-year $45 million team friendly offer? Should the Warriors accept his camp’s counter of three years and 82 million to give the team flexibility on signing more free agents? Should the Warriors accept the trade with the Sacramento Kings, or should they accept the trade with the Phoenix Suns? Post your thoughts in the comments below. 1. Forget him. Warriors need role players for a championship or 2. Cut your losses and get good players in return. Kaminga just wants money

  2. I'm posting before I watch. Swish, I've been on this JK thing for 3 years and I've been consistent. GSW and Kerr are garbage and that's my team, but I'm not blind. I told folks that JK had leverage and people laughed. What Perk said about him not able to bet on himself because of Kerr if he signs the qualifying offer is incorrect as well. This is why many talking heads couldn't run a front office. GSW were trying to undercut JK, we call that cut off your nose to spite your face and it is and will backfire big time. Teams know they don't have to give up too much for JK because his options are sign and trade or sign the qualifying offer. If he signs the offer, gsw cannot trade him and that's what many don't understand. Gsw will have to play him despite what people think. Why? Because they 100% cannot waste the next Curry year. This year is a critical year for Curry and they JK can maximize that year so now they have no choice. Their plan didn't work. If he signs, he walks free next year and they get nothing. They didn't count on that being possible but they screwed him now he can play their game and screw them. They are proving to be a poorly run organization. If I were Jk, I'd be doing the same thing. BJ Armstrong is with Sac and I've heard him chastise GSW in the past for how they handled JK so I am not surprised he is involved in trying to get JK to SAC. I hope he gets there this year or next.
I'll watch the vid now 😊

  3. Kerr, Mike Dumb, and the Warriors are unbelievably delusional. Kerr and Mike Dumb need to go. Any good players shouldn't join the warriors to detriment their own value. Forget the Warriors – they are a lost cause

  4. perkins needs to sit down and talk about his celtics aint no gsw fans wanna hear him

  5. kerr👿 is a 'thin-skinned' egotistical POS who couldn't handle being thrown under the bus (rightfully so) when Jonathan said the moron was holding Him back! Same with two-faced curry who feels threatened by the light being Shined on JK…REAL‼️

  6. I don’t think any of this makes sense UNLESS Steph Curry is directly involved. Maybe he doesn’t want to change the offense that he is so used to now, or maybe there is a personality clash. Either way, although Kerr is clearly useless, there has to be a deeper reason for how Kuminga has been dicked around so much by the dubs.

  7. They panicked and they traded for the 36 old Jimmy for $107 mil for 2 yrs plus Wigs, Schroeder, Slowmo… Jimmy is a great addition but they got a player they can't afford to keep. Now they don't have money to keep JK or get another good player. So they don't want to trade JK to the competitors and they can't pay him enough for him to stay especially when his relationship with Kerr is unsalvageable.

  8. So let me get this straight… the Warriors would rather lose Kaminga for nothing than admit they fumbled his development for 4 straight years?? This is Wiggins–Wiseman–Poole déjà vu—how many more young talents do they need to waste before they learn?!

  9. Kuminga needs more playing time to be effective. Kerr has little or no patience for rookies or younger players when they struggle or miss their defensive assignments. I'm not a fan of either. I wish they would both be gone from the team.

  10. Don't trade him, play him! He's got more left in the tank than Jimmy. JB's a genius player, but he's old and injury-prone (and expensive!). I never would have signed him in the first place …

  11. Bro, i love how you used all the jalen Johnson getting manhandled clips. 😂

    Thats your 30 million player

  12. If you remember, right before JK was injured last year and missed two months or more, he was the Warriors number two scorer and thought of very highly. While he was gone they traded for Butler and Kerr made a remark which basically said, things are different now and JK needs to realize his new role, which will be below Steph, Jimmy and Draymond in priority. When they benched him at the end of the season and for the first round of the playoffs, they were making the statement, he now had zero role. Suddenly in the 2nd round Steph is injured and JK averages over 24 ppg for the last four games against Minnesota. The Warriors now have egg on their faces. They don't want to pay him, and they can't trade him for value because his salary is so low. With Butler and Curry making over $50 million each, they can't take on more salary, and JK doesn't make much, so the player they get for him can't make much either, so they're likely to not be as good as JK, who is underpaid. They need to offer him the same 4 yr $90 million offer the other teams are representing. If things don't work out, they can trade him in the future. If they don't, they need to trade him for what little they can get, so they can sign more players. They only have 9, I believe.

  13. Just let JK go. Kerr is a stubborn arrogant coach that is only wasting the like of JK and Moody. Let them go. Kerr has established JK as a scapegoat. Let's stop dreaming. Kerr is destroying everyone's career that is not named Steph, Dray and now, Jimmy. The rest of the roster are scapegoats for Kerr whenever they take a loss. He "apologizes" when his mistakes are shown but come next day or a week, Kerr goes back to his old ways. Let JK go. Let Moody go as well. They are not bench warmers. They need playing time.

  14. THIS IS ALL ON KERR, AND IT IS PERSONAL BASED ON TIME LINE 2022-23!
Every team drafts lottery picks based on CBA contract this isn't rocket science you better find a way in 3 years whether to pay them or not. This was placed in to avoid hold out like the old days. But Howdy foolie Kerr winning now doesn't include any of that which is really a two time line. Now because of Lacob, Jr, even If Curry, Green, who are too loyal to Kerr the core thinking they can run it back re-enforcing to Kerr small ball and Curry be the sun refusing to except or adjust his offense W have this situation. I've not seen anything like this since holdouts by lottery picks!
This shouldn't take JK off the hook, from things you got a talent from the Congo, no education, push along because of talent moved so he can play with little basic development of the game, H.S. then Gleague! The worse part he gets picked by W, you watch JK, a great play ground players who doesn't even know how to screen out and get a rebound. Now it has become personal with JK and agent if true W'S have been doing nothing but lying just as they did with Wiseman destroying any value he has while they claim they want him. JK and Agent got the W by the balls why?it is personal and they want out so stopping W trying to save face and protect Kerr so call reputation.😢
Just set him free say sorry take a first round bye good luck
Let this be a lesson for any future or current GM, owners and coaches not to ever in this position.

  15. I love the Warriors BUT I will NEVER NEVER EVER forgive them for how they failed to develop Kuminga, turned a blind eye to Poole getting punched and how they have made a culture out of condoning Green's outrageous behavior and emotional dysfunction. These glaring failures have cost them the dynasty and I have no doubt GWS would still be on top to this very day if the powers that be knew what the hell they were doing. Unfortunately it is clear that they do not
