I think pwat at the backup 3 is OP, especially if he locks his corner 3 in.
Peyton is better at the 3 and 2 than the 4 IMHO.
Thank God Ryan isn’t in the front office, dear lord. $12 million per year? Watson ranks in the BOTTOM 10% on offense in the ENTIRE LEAGUE! (last time i checked, Offense is still the most important thing)
Even if he turned into a DPOY player(which he wont), it would just make him an AVERAGE player at best.
He ranks 33rd in BL% (that’s it, that’s his best attribute). You know who ranks 25th in the league in BL%? Zeke “the freak” Nnaji.
He is going into his 4th year now, what are we talking about… there are so many players out there better than Zeke.
There isn’t ONE player with Watson’s overall impact (which is still a big fat negative) that gets paid anywhere close to $10 million, let alone $12 million.
It´s time to stop dreaming on year 4 players, get proven vets, or proven positive impact players (which is real depth).. when Jokic retires in 6-7 years, thats when you can experiment and go back to being Mid Level Denver Nuggets because of "hope/cope" on drafts.
Celtics got Boucher for 3mil, a player thats about 2x the player watson is.. those kind of players will always be available in off-seasons, don´t lock yourself in with 12-14mil/year "well, maybe in year 4 or 5 he can make a leap"- kind of players.

Matt’s always so extreme w/ his takes. We don’t have a single great defender without Watson, nobody is looking to be that in the future. We have to pay him.

I’ve come to a conclusion that Jokic/nuggets fans truly believe that offence alone will win you the championship. All this shooting you hope to get out of Jokic, Murray & co but fail to realise your best offensive player is also your worst defensive player and turnover prone. Murray & Cam Johnson gonna get hunted on defense aswell. This is why I’d argue it’s best to put Jokic around defensive players first just like OKC does with Shai giving Jokic less pressure on defense to use more energy on offence. Similar to what Dallas did in 2024 with Luka around lively, gafford, Washington etc

Watson is 22 years old & he's one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. Of course you extend him. In case nobody has noticed this, Cameron Johnson has started 41, 47 and 57 games the last three years. That's 101 games missed, an average of 33 per season, nearly half the year. Watson offers a superior defensive player who can back up both the 2 and the 3 spots as a versatile rotational guy who is capable of guarding 4 positions. Not many players who basically went straight from high school to the NBA (which is essentially what he did when you look at how little he played in one year at UCLA) are finished products by age 22. Watson has not come close to touching his real potential, & we'd be foolish to let him go. Who do we replace him with? We'd wind up finding another player who is probably older & wind up paying the same money. Watson may not be a big time scorer, but he does enough to make himself a valuable rotational guy who can play with either the starters or the bench.
