Salary Cap Breakdown – Dallas Mavericks

At the beginning of free agency, the Dallas Maverick’s salary cap for next season was already deep into the luxury tax past the first apron. So when Kyrie Irving declined his player option and resigned for three more years at 118 million, it actually helped the Mavericks by lowering his salary for next season to 36 million. Then they got a little more financial relief when Spencer Denwitty left in free agency signing with the Hornets. But that also left the Mavs in desperate need of a point guard as Kyrie Irving’s ACL injury could keep him off the court all season. So they went out and signed free agent D’Angelo Russell as a stop gap point guard at a very reasonable 2 years 11 million or the taxpayer mid-level exception. And then they also brought back Dante Exom for another season at the minimum. And then finally, and perhaps most importantly, after getting lucky at the draft lottery, the Mavericks unsurprisingly selected Cooper Flag with the number one pick. So despite saving a little bit on Kyrie’s contract, the Mavs are now slightly over the second apron. So presumably before next season begins, they’ll find a way to shave some money from their books to dip back down below the second apron.

Heading into next season, here’s what the Dallas Mavericks salary cap looks like!

  1. They also have 1 too many players on the roster, so they will have to shed a salary via trade or buyout. That will get them under the second apron.
