The Orlando Magic Have a Backcourt AND Frontcourt Duo — That’s a Problem

The Orlando Magic Have a Backcourt AND Frontcourt Duo — That’s a Problem

The Orlando Magic began this off season with the move that was seen as bold by the public because they traded away a lot of their future assets along with Colton Anthony Contavius Cwell Pope in exchange for Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies. But me personally, I’m loving this trade for the Orlando Magic because I think Desmond Bane was the exact type player that they needed to unlock their offense and take it to that next level that they want to take it to to get out of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. And the more and more I look at the addition of the of Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic, the more I become intrigued. And the one thing that I realized is that the Orlando Magic, they’re going to have a real opportunity to have a dynamic duo in their back court and also in the front court as well. And the players I’m referring to is none other than Jaylen Suggs and Desmond Bane as that dynamic duo in the back court. And I know neither one of these guys have been NBA Allstars, but they are still highlevel basketball players, highlevel playmakers. I think they’re high level playmakers for themselves and they’re going to be highle playmakers for the Orlando Magic as well. So you have Desmond Bane and Jaylen Suggs in the back court. And by the way, Jaylen Suggs, he’s made an allNBA defensive team already in his young NBA career. And Desmond Bane has been cons consistently scoring over 17 points per game efficiently over these last couple years. So these guys can hoop. And then looking at that duo in the front court, none other than France Vagner and Paulo Manero. Two of the most not only two of the most talented players in the NBA, but two of the most unique players in the NBA. And we’re going to get into that later on in the video when we um dive into those guys. Um pause on that most definitely. But looking at these looking at this the these two tandemss for the Orlando Magic. Not only do I think they’re just going to be, you know, working well as pairs with each others in the front court and in the and in the back court, but I think all of it is going to end up feeding off of each other. These four guys are going to be making a lot of plays for each other on the offensive and the defensive side of the ball. Before we get into the duos, one more thing I want to say about the Orlando Magic is that we see them trending more towards that modern NBA lineup where we seeing a lot of these NBA teams, they’re going away from having that, you know, traditional point guard or that one guy that’s setting the table from everyone. When we look at the last couple of teams that has won NBA championships when we look at the Oklahoma City Thunder, no pure playmaker in their offense, just a bunch of guys who can put the ball on the floor, make plays for themselves, and make plays for each other. And of course, they had Shay Gildas Alexander at the helm of that. And we look at the Boston Celtics, no pure playmaker, no pure table setter or traditional point guard on the team, just a bunch of guys that can put the ball on the floor, attack closeouts, and make reads. And that’s what I see when I look at the Orlando Magic. So, I just wanted to make that point really quickly. And the tandem I wanted to start with today, I want to look at this new back court for the Orlando Magic. They’re trying out a new running mate for Jaylen Suggs. They tried out Contavius Cwell with a Pope. It didn’t work out too well. So, they got a little bit more aggressive and they go out and get Desmond Bane. that um right off the bat as individuals, Desmond Bane and Contavius Cwell Pope, I’m taking Desmond Bane at this point in their careers all day long. So, I do think Desmond Bane is is better individually, but I look at these two guys, I think they’re going to be making plays for each other on both sides of the basketball. And we can look at it defensively. We know what Jaylen Suggs is as a defender, one of the best point of attack, one of the best point of attack defenders in the NBA. He’s very aggressive. He’s very athletic. He’s very fast. He can switch. He can fight through strings, do everything on the defensive side of the ball. We’ve already seen him make that all and be a defensive team. Now, Desmond Bane, he’s really known for what he does on the offensive side of the ball because he is such a prolific scorer. He can knock down the three-point shot, but he’s also a really solid defender as well. When we look at the Memphis Grizzlies, those years that they were making the NBA playoffs and winning playoff series, they were a top 10 defense in the NBA. Of course, they were being led by Jiren Jackson Jr., a guy that has won defensive player of the year, but they were still a defensive minded team, and it made Desmond Bane a defensive-minded player. He’s a high um he’s an high he’s a high IQ, low m low mistake defender, very disciplined on ball. He can switch one through three. He does have a short wings span, but he is very built. He weighs 215. So, him and um him and Jaylen Suggs, they’re going to have the opportunity to be a very physical back court defensively, being able to, that’s one thing about the Orlando Magic. They’re going to be able to switch everything um one through four, any action that does not have to do with the big and maybe depending on who that big is on that day. If it’s not a guy that’s confident or strong at finishing around the room, we might see the Orlando Magic switching everything a lot. So, um their their back court is going to be good defensively. and then also where they need the most help at on the offensive side of the ball. I think this can be really really good for Jaylen Suggs. I watched him um I watched some of his tape from this from this most previous season, the games he did play in before he went down with his injury and I see a lot of potential with Jaylen Suggs on the offensive side of the ball. Um there were moments where the Orlando Magic was struggling offensively where he had to attempt to take on a um a bigger offensive role. That’s why we see he his numbers wasn’t that efficient this season. Paulo Benerro also went down very early in the season. So, um it was hard for him to get quality shots. So, I think these guys coming back healthy um and then Jaylen Suggs having a guy as dynamic as Desmond Bame alongside him in the back court, I think he’s going to get a lot more easier looks. But what I saw, the potential I saw in Jaylen Suggs as a scorer offensively from last season. Um, he looked so confident, so creative at getting downhill and finishing around the rim. I thought he was a really solid finisher. And then also, I see a lot of potential on this three-point shot as well. I think his form is really solid, and I saw a lot of range on a lot of those three-point shots that he was getting. And when he was getting those open looks, he was definitely knocking them down. And I think when you pick Desmond Bane alongside him, Desmond Bane was really is a really good floor stretcher because he can shoot the ball from so deep and if he gives a hard close out, he um hard close out from the defender, he is so good at attacking that close out. He can get downhill and he can do everything as an offensive um as an offensive creator from that point at a pretty decent level. So with having that um and he was impactful for John as well. So having that floor spacer on that hash on that wing for Jaylen Suggs when he is operating with the ball in his hands I think that’s going to be really good for him and it’s going to open the offense up for not just uh Jaylen Suggs but Paulo Banker and France Vagner as well. So that’s how I’m looking at these two guys on the offensive and the defensive side of the ball. And I also think they’re going to be dangerous in transition. Both guys are good at getting out um on the fast break, pushing the ball um pushing the ball down the court with the ball in their hands. So, I’m looking forward to seeing Jaylen Suggs and Desmond Bay as a back court for the Orlando Magic next season. Now, we get to talk about the front court, the duo in the front court, which I said earlier is so unique. And what makes these guys so unique is their size. Um, Paulo Benro. He’s a tank 610, 250 lbs, but he has legit guard skills, but he also has one of the best post games in the league. He’s a very, very special ball player as an individual. And then also, you have his countermate France Vagner, who is also 610, who can also handle the ball and is probably one of the top five players in the NBA when it comes to getting downhill and finishing up around the rim. and he is that good at um he’s that good at finishing around the rim. So creative euro steps floers, he does it all as a finisher. So when you get these two guys in in in your front court, um it allows you to do some very special, some very magical things. And one of those magical things, the Orlando Magic, they’re the only team in the NBA that can say that they have two 610 wings that can bring the ball up from the half court, get their team into their offense, their half court set, scoring isolation, scoring the pick and roll, set guys up in the pick and roll, score in the post, get downhill and score the basketball. The Orlando Magic are the only team in the NBA that can say that they have two 610 guys that can do that. And what I was talking about earlier when I said that I think the four of these guys, the tandem in the back court and the tandem in the front court, they’re going to all end up flowing off of each other. One thing I’m really excited about is that we can actually see Paulo Beno and France Wagner start to take advantage of each other a little bit more. And uh once again, pause on that cuz I know that sounded crazy, but due to the the lack of spacing and the lack of shooting at times, it’s been hard for them to really work off one um um work off of uh work off of each other. But with Desmond Bane and Jaylen Suggs in this back court, I think we can see some lineups to where Paulo Bancer and France, you know, they don’t have to play without a big on the court and then they can have those two guys as shooters on the court. And I know Jaylen Suggs before he went down with his injury, he finished shooting that three ball 31%, but the year before that he was around 39%. Like we said with this season, he had to he was forced to take on a a little bit more of an offensive load that he that he could handle. So he had to take a lot more difficult shots, but from what I seen when he gets an open look and also he has range on his three-point shot. And then the same thing with Desmond Bane. An elite sport um an elite floor spacer made things a lot easier easier for Jiren Jackson Jr. and John Moran. So that’s what I’m looking forward Well, that’s what I’m looking forward to for France Vagner and Paulo Bancer. we can see them in more pick and roll actions with each other, more dribble handoff actions with each other because like we said, when you got two guys that size and they’re able to run that type of action with each other as as opposing defenses, it’s like what you know what um what can you do about that? But of course, for that pick and roll action to work, you got to have those components around you that make teams have to respect it and make them pick, you know, a tough choice. So, I think they’re going to be able to do that with a healthy Jaylen Suggs and a new addition of Desmond Bane next year. So, you have that with them guys on the offensive side of the ball. They’re going to be um they’re going to be they’re going to be they’re going to be a lot to handle next season, you know, if they’re fully healthy. And then defensively, a lot of people forget that the Orlando Magic, or I should say a lot of people don’t realize is that these last couple years, these last few years, they’re religiously a top two, top three defense in the NBA. and Paulo Benro and France Vagner, they play a huge role in that that that size and that length. It comes into play on the defensive side of the ball. France Vagner um he doesn’t mind playing on ball defense. He doesn’t mind playing help defense, post defense. Paulo Beno is making strides on the defensive side of the ball um being a a a low post um interior defender using that $250 $250 $250 um pound frame that he has. So, the Orlando Magic, man, I think they’re going to be something fun to watch next season. And I really do think Desmond Bane is the player to make that offense to the next level because he fits like a glove. But, um, that’s what I want to talk about with you guys today.
