In 2030, the NBA is planning to switch to a new airless 3D printed basketball, and players are already furious because the last time the league changed balls, it was a disaster. Back in 2020, the NBA switched from Spalding to Wilson, and players struggled so much that the league had its lowest field goal percentage since 1998. But that still wasn’t the worst ball change in history. In 2006, the NBA switched from real leather to a microfiber ball, and players were enraged. They called the league cheap and said it didn’t care about their hands. And for good reason. The microfiber material actually hurt. Steve Nash even said that just shooting the ball would make his fingers bleed. Now the NBA wants to try another new ball. And history shows it could get ugly.
