He normally don’t do interviews, but for us, we got him to come out. I want to introduce to you guys the owner of Hype 901, Lo. Welcome to the Sneak Fest Show, brother. Thank you guys. Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here. Glad to have you on. Thank you. Thank you. Now, like I said, you don’t do interviews because that we you’re cool. We’re cool with you and we was able to pull your super busy to pull your strings. So, just kind of let everybody know about who you are, how you started a hype 901, all that all that good stuff. So, I’m known as Lo. My name’s Eduardo, but everybody calls me Lo. Uh, born and raised in Memphis. Okay. Yes, sir. So, I got into shoes probably mid college and I was like, I like this. You know, I did finish college. I did finish college, but I was like, I look I looked into it. I knew you got some sneak fest. What college did you go to? I went to U of M. Okay. Yeah. Um, White Station High School alumni. Went to U of M. uh me and my uh partner at the time, well now he’s actually still my partner. He uh he was doing like like retail store management for a while and I got into shoes and during the co you know I’m sure you guys know cuz Sneakfest probably took off as well like so many new vendors. We were like let’s just get together and open a store. So we went for it but it was postcoid so you know we were like I don’t know how I was going to do you know you guys know how the market changes but we opened the store and been there almost three years so can’t complain you know men’s clothing do sell some sneakers as you guys probably seen on the show but no and for everybody that doesn’t that know I’m sure you guys have seen before every time we do a unboxing we always say shout out to height 901 he’s the guy and his partner are the ones that we always bring in shoes to unbox which we have some good stuff to bring in today to unbox but we’ll get to get to that Uh like he said, you were vendor with ours at the postco show. That was the first time we met you and from there it’s just been like it’s just been a great relationship. Uh just let people know just how like business and stuff goes for you or getting into this sneaker business. So like pre store like all you want me to start from the beginning all that. All right. So I’m not going to sit here and lie to you. S was like into sneakers like all growing up. Jerry knows me and Jerry go way back before like I’ve known Jerry for a minute. So he knows my boy Leo. Leo was my friend growing up and like this is how I first knew about the Jay’s cuz like he wouldn’t miss a single Saturday. Wolf Chase Small every Saturday in Sound about I’m like man he put in the extra bus boy hours. I’m like hey you really need these shoes right? And like I’d go with him. I’d sit in the car. He’d come out with his shoes and I was like okay there’s like a I see this big old line. I’m like all right there’s a you know there’s a following for people like this. But I that wasn’t me reselling or anything. Yeah. Um I got I got into college, you know, I was sitting there and I was like, man, who doesn’t want any extra cash during college? Uh I went into Southland Mall. I remember me and my girl, we’re just walking cuz we never been to Southland Mall. We’re like, you know, we don’t really come out this this area. Let’s go check it out. There’s a Hibbit Sports with a sign that says Yeezy Beluga raffle. Okay. And we’re like, we go in and I’m like, “So, is this raffle for a free shoe or if I win the raffle, I got to pay for it?” And they’re like, “No, you got to pay for it.” Like, “Why are you doing a raffle?” They’re like, “Because so, so this is your first time ever getting introduced to the to the resale.” Because Leo, my boy Leo back then, he would buy the shoes just to have them at home. Like, he had all the Jordans. And I’m like, he never sold them though, so I didn’t know there was a resell aspect to it. I thought it was just fashion at the moment. Right. Right. But when we were in Southland Mall and they were like, “Yeah, you just you’re just winning the opportunity to purchase the shoe.” And I’m like, “Why do we have to win the opportunity to purchase it?” Like because the demand is so high, right? I’m like, “Okay, there’s probably money to be.” So, we’re like, you know, let’s just fill it out for fun. We filled it out. I still remember the exact morning. We’re at Cracker Barrel. They didn’t call my phone. They called her phone. She won. And we’re like, “All right, let’s go buy them.” So, we bought them. And, you know, she was like, “All right, we got to resell them, right?” But no, me I was like, “No, this is the first shoe I got. Like, I’m going to keep them. I want to keep send. Yeah, she wasn’t too happy about that keeping them, but after that, you know, I did sell it pre-owned and I it was pre-owned. You still made more than what you paid. So, I was like, okay, there’s something to it. And then I got into sneaker botting. Year of sneaker bought. So, the online stuff. This was still pre-COVID. I bought a sneaker bought and a lot of people think you just buy one and press a button and it just gets you a bunch of shoes. It’s not how it works. Like, it’s like you got to put money into it every month, get it to work. So I was still glad you said that because a lot of people think it’s just a it’s a click of a button button. You got to have the addresses, the emails, the credit, you got to have everything ready. So I was like a whole system. Yeah. So it took me a couple years to get used to the system. I started doing it and then COVID hit and I was like the bots were getting dusty. Like I haven’t even used them and then everything shut down, right? They’re like we’re only online only and I’m like what you gonna do now? Let’s undust the bots. So we we did that and then that was like around the college like right after college I started botting and it was crazy cuz you were like Memphis is kind of small in terms of like sneaker bers. There’s a few of them I know but like once they started coming in you saw the margins and I was like I started saving my money. I was like there’s nowhere to go. Everything’s shut down. Let me just sell the shoes and start saving my money, right? And then that’s when I was like this can go, you know, somewhere pretty far. And then saved my money, got with my partner, opened up a shop. But you guys were crucial in the whole like meeting connections because Sneakfest came around like they were like I was like I don’t even know how to do a sneaker convention. I’ve never done it. So let’s start locally first because I did a sneakfest one the first one. I mean the the very su the most successful one was actually here in the forum. Like it was like the craziest we ever did like was here and it was awesome. You know met a bunch of people all the resellers like Memphis I didn’t even know Memphis had that many resellers but there’s enough clientele and enough shoes to go around like you know. Shout out to all of them. Uh, so after we did Sneakfest, we’re like, you know, let’s just look at senior convention and there was a bunch more. So we started traveling doing that and always came back local and we had time did you guys and then opened up shop and at first this was after co you know y’all remember co there was Jordan ones going for like 600 now look at Jordan one market you retail right now some of them less than 100 bucks so we had to get kind of like work around that. Uh we were talking about this earlier and I about the pre-owned market. I had never sold a pre-owned shoe in my life. I still have like customers that are like, I’m not putting a shoe on that someone else’s foot has been in. Right. I bought a pair of pre-owned shoes from you yesterday. We talking about that. You brought them for me. Oh, just to like make it clear, we’re not like just buying them used up. Like we have cleaners that clean them up, make them look shout out to your cleaners cuz they do Jordan Tic. Yeah. Shout out to them. Crazy good job. Yeah. Yeah. So we clean them up and we put them on the wall and we’re like, we’ll try this, you know, we’ll see how it works. And to my surprise, parents, a lot of parents preferred that because it’s not like, like I said, it’s not like we’re putting like a shoe out that has mud all over it. We clean them up. They look pretty good. Cuz nowadays, as you see, like you guys said, you guys get early shoes in. We That’s kind of what keeps us going. Like if we can be the first ones or one of the first stores to be able to provide the city of Memphis with early pair of shoes, then, you know, we get higher marketing. And they’re pricey. They come at a price. you know, early shoes got to play 350, 500. Yeah. Pay to play. So the moms will be like, why would we pay that? You get three pair of shoes for less than that. So the pre-owned market really like light bulb went off like, okay, let’s invest a lot like more into that. And then once we start saying, you know, buy, sell, and trade, like if you got a bill you a bill you got to pay, just bring me your used shoe. Like you take any shoes. I’m like, this is what I tell everybody. If you come to Hype 901, we’re not going to turn down your shoe. We’re going to make you an offer. you may not like the offer, but we will make you an offer. Okay? So, like if you come see us, we’ll make you an offer. So, that’s when we got into like heavy like just opening the store. And um Jerry was there before we even had the doors open. So, it was like if you go there now, like we’re running out of room. Yeah. Yeah. We we talk about that all the time when I come in the store to pick up the shoes from you. You mentioning people coming in to, you know, sell off shoes that they have. What is the most exclusive shoe that you ever held in your hand before you was just like, “Wow.” Like just want to wow the store or before the store. Either either one. You just one. Since we’re from Memphis, we probably all know who Magic is, right? Yeah. So, I met Magic. Shout out to Magic. Yeah, shout out Magic. And uh he sold me a pair of the Off-White Chicago ones. Okay. That was my first wo moment. Like, I can’t believe I got one of these. I can’t believe I I feel like everybody had the opportunity in this room to buy those for like $600 700. The truth, but we didn’t know. And we didn’t know what it was going to turn into. Now we like ah missed out. Missed out. It’s not like Bitcoin me too. Like back to shoes. Yeah. But yeah, it was like I got that shoe and I was like, “Wow, I got like put it online, sold, made my quick little profit.” Yeah. But recently, uh, you know, with Nike being here and everything, we see shoes come in all the time. I saw, not this one, this week alone, brand new pair of Baby Bear SBS. Never. We I’ve never seen that before. When he told me that, I was like, “What?” Like, how? Yeah. Like I was the same way. I said, “No, there’s no 15y old shoe, right?” Yeah. It was like 2008. Like it was like crazy. Like brand new. Like I’m like, nah. I like you know how SBS are stitched so they’re going to last. They’re not glued like they’re going to last. So I ran them through threw all the checks came back good and I’m like dude that’s like that’s a come up for anyone here in the city of Memphis. Like and I was like that’s crazy. Like we get stuff in all the time like Tiffany forces Travis Scott baby bear brand new from OA. And I was telling him like I posted some Jordan 20s today. You guys like Jordan 20 pair right? Yeah. So the new like the younger the younger guys nowadays they’ll look at that shoe and be like uh like what is that? They want all the new history. The Jordan 20 actually won the muzz on feet. Shout out to Shout out to Luke for winning that. Like a lot of people don’t appreciate the younger guys don’t appreciate like what what set the foundation for the shoes that are now. But we’ll post them and uh like they’ll come in the store and I’ll tell my crew or my team like, “Hey guys, just make sure when we sell them, fair warning, they might crumble. They might like, yeah, buy at your own risk cuz this is like a like it’s a coolest shoe.” Like I think I was in eighth grade when those first dropped. Sound about right. Jordan 20s. I think I might have been eighth grade. Eighth grade. You’re showing your age. I show it on the show every day, every week with my beard. So yeah, but I mean it’s just stuff like that that makes you think like, wow. Like you learn so much about shoes within a different span of time. Like customers teach you things. You guys teach me things about shoes. Like there’s just so much because I was, like I said, I didn’t grow up like I love shoes. I was in a sneaker head like at a very young age. I mean, we we all learn like we don’t know. A lot of people think because of we doing sneak fest shows and sneak fest in general that we know well it’s a it’s a whole business. So things go up and down and down and so like you can see that like in the trends change, fashion changes. Like right now, mesh runners are probably one of your biggest sellers or at least it was. Like Vomero is in A6 and like New Balance. All that is taking off compared to Jay’s but like Yeah, you just got to go with whatever the market and then you got to like read your clientele. You know, they’ll tell you straight up too. They’ll be like, “Hey, dude. You got to get this out. Nobody wears this anymore.” And I’m like, “All right, bet.” You know, but you know, you still keep it in tucked in because history repeats itself. The flare jeans that was the 70 or what? 78. Now everybody is everything repeats itself. So, I think it’s cool how to see like the younger crowd bring their own little twist to fashion and the OGs still have, you know, still have their taste on that. That’s the misconception of sneaker resellers is that, oh, they’re charging $400 or $500 for I bought a pair of Kobe Air Force ones from them for $80. That’s less than $100. You know what I mean? For me, I can drive a truck. So, that’s one tank of gas. You know what I mean? There you go. So, we gonna get into these topics. So, since Lo is here and he’s gonna probably gonna love this topic, which is good for you. So, StockX put a poll out there for the most counterfeed sneakers of 2024. I think I saw that. Yeah. Yes. And you having the shop that you have? Yeah. You looking at this list, what do y’all think of the number I mean, I don’t know if these numbers are correct for to be a campus Adidas campus to be counterfeited. I’m that that would caught my attention the most. Like that number one. And the samba. I didn’t know I didn’t think samba was gonna get counterfeited. Here’s the here’s the thing though, like people the sambas have taken off. True. Right. Correct. The thing is like when people are think of the sneakers now, they think StockX. So even you got the normal person that doesn’t know where to buy sambas, they’re going to go to StockX and just But you get sambas from Journeys. Some people don’t know that though. Like some people don’t know that. Finish Line Champs. And the price point isn’t even that crazy to where I thought you would. Exactly. I mean, I can understand the Travis uh the Mason Mar that would I can understand that one too. I’ve seen a lot of fakes of those. Even the new ballads like we’ve said that before. Some of the colorways of new ballots that been released, I’m like, what are y’all getting those from? Like for for that to be And they had another one. Uh the second one was the the the shoes. The Crocs. I mean the Yeah, I can see the The Crocs. The Crocs being counterfeited. No, those Crocs like they went crazy price the price on. You guys have a few pairs. Uh, not the McQueen’s. No, but but the Crocs being counterfeited. I That one cuz they started like collabing like the collaborations with the artists and stuff. They just shot their stock like crazy. Outside of like this specific list, how do you handle like when someone brings in a pair? That’s a good one. So, we were talking about this earlier. We want we’re thinking about doing the meta glasses recording thing because you would be surprised how many pairs we get in daily that they try to get by us and like their reactions would be hilarious. But the thing is, you know, we’d have to blur their face and stuff like that. But the way we handle it is, you know, you read the customer, you could tell if somebody had been scammed and I’m like, “Hey man, you know, where’d you get it from? If you know the person, I’d try to get your bread back or whatever.” But there’s also the people that come in with the intention of trying to to scam you. Yeah. And then, you know, you take it a different way like like them fast talkers. Yeah. Like, bro, really? Like, come on, man. You got They get offensive. It’s a little bit disrespectful that you think we don’t know what we’re talking about. And I’m like, there’s so many apps. I tell people there’s so many apps nowadays that you can get a second opinion on, like legit app, like all that. Like you can, it just takes a $2. You can run them through it. If you’re not 100% sure, don’t buy. Just run it through there and they’ll give you a second opinion. If it’s good, buy it. If it’s not, you know, there shouldn’t be this, for example. I don’t think this should be happening. I feel like these made the list because of Christmas time. Hold on. We got another one, too. Go to the next. The next one is is slides. So y’all already know I seen this slides are being counterfeited. Like now this list here, I agree with this list completely. Like we see counterfeits of those all the time cuz they’re so easy to I feel like they’re so easy to make. That is true. It’s it’s it’s foam. Literally phone. Literally phone. And then with him like this, they’re not making anymore. So people still want them. It gives the people another drive to make more and more of them. You know what? Like do you feel like are you sitting on any dead stock pairs? Oh, we have some. But I will say like they aren’t great movers for us really. Yeah, they are not. Yeah. Wow. I I don’t know. It it might be certain market areas because we don’t have a beach here. Yeah. I was about to say I see places like Miami like them places there where they can wear slides all the time. I see that. But I still would think that slides would do good here just because of kids like to wear slides. The one thing I hate about those is like when they get hot they shrink and they always shrunk in the car. You’re out of luck. He’s just having a moment right Not even in the car. I just set them out on the back porch and bam. One size too small now. Oh, and they’re your dog’s favorite chew toy. Like that. Yeah. But but these will pick up in sales when the athletes, you know, we’re right across the street from with athletic. So what do what do athletes wear after a game? Slides. Yeah. Just put some slides on. So there’s still a clientele for it, but just not as heavy. Can say another thing that we see the counterfeit of shoes that the list we just saw. But I don’t I wonder if we were I don’t think these would be counterfeited. So Delta Airlines celebrated their 100th anniversary and they released an exclusive Air Force One Air Force One. Like this is like people was online like like this. No, this is real. Like they actually released and everything like this is this was real. I don’t I don’t really I actually don’t even wear Air Force ones that much. I’ve never had the Air Force on. I tried them on and I was like this is not for me. This was back in early early time of my day. Yeah. I’m not saying Air Force. We got We got size running soon. We’ll post it. We got See, they’re all to all dance there airline guys or women if you need if you need these. If you have these on, they might upgrade you to first class. You know what? Hey, that’s a good idea. That’s a great idea. Next travel shoe, right? Social experiment, right? Like take, hey, can I get first class? No. Wait. We always We had this talk before of your your airport fit. These might be a good airport out airport outfit. You walk in the airport with these on. That’s a That’s a good point. But you can’t I don’t Do you think United or Southwest or America would turn you around because you got a death for another They’re not going to know. They’re not going to know. Think about the people that work at the front desk. They don’t really look at sneakers that deep. Like Yeah. I don’t know. You go to You go to them guys in Spirit, you know, they they check everything. Like they look at you up and down. They they they look at you up and down. I mean, speaking of new I was shocked to see that. Yeah, that that I’m not I’m not mad at that. Those are not bad at all. I actually like those. I like those. Uh, speaking of um, another early look, uh, LeBron put out a sample, uh, LeBron 9023. Um, they said it’s a sample right now. Uh, he said he was just kind of playing around with models and stuff, but he was playing in them. So, what do we think about this model? I mean, I know it’s all black and it’s kind of early right now, but he said it’s kind of like it’s kind of like when they leak pictures of cars, they put the camouflage on it. Like all black shoe, it’s kind of hard to see the details. So, that they did that on. I’m not going to lie, that goes tough. Like, I like the black. like with the pop with the blue laces popping like I like how if you look at the shoe and you know what the LeBron James logo looks like it it’s basically his Okay, I see. No, I didn’t see that. That’s why you tuned into the show. You know what I mean? Okay. That’s a good one. I didn’t even see that. Yeah, it’s basically his LJ and crown if you look at the side of the shoe. That’s a good one. Number 23. He’s celebrating to his 23 year. I think it’s pretty cool. That is crazy. That’s I’m actually when I saw these I’m not mad. Completely different from his past models. I would like get his line is getting less bulky and becoming more slim. That is true. That is true. And we’re starting to see more players like actually play in the shoes. I know that that uh I mean you know shout out to our guy Dez. Uh you know he he would only only the 20s. He even he tried the Jaws he was like they were good but he he liked the LeBron 20. Only the 20 only the 20. ever since he had came back from that uh that that toe injury, he’s like the 20 just felt better on his foot. So, he just ran with that. He was like, I know I’m supposed to wear them against that player coming in, he was like this this shoe just comfortable for me. So, I don’t know. I want to see other colorways. Yeah, I want to see some more. At first, I wasn’t really feeling them, but now that I’m like looking at it at a different light, like, yeah, I’m not mad at these. I’m not mad at these. They’re slick. They’re no J three, though. No, they not. They’re not. Shout out to Shout out to everybody who caught the uh light shows today. Yeah, I got we end up getting out as well, too. Uh, Chris Paul, you know, he’s back with the Clippers and he has his um, elite camp and he gifted everybody that was part of his elite camp, him and Jordan came up and they they gifted everybody a pair of 40 pees. This is a floor uh, floor pattern on the on the on the uh, the swoosh. It’s kind of weird to see a Jordan model. Well, a Jordan model with a swoosh, but then you got the Jordan one. You got the Jordan one. But this is the Air Jordan 40, but it has a swoosh on it. But cuz if you look at the the first colorway of the Jordan 40, it wasn’t there’s no swoosh on there. But I think like you said, only the one it got a swoosh on it, right? What? Is there other Jordan? There’s I think there’s a Tinker fours and stuff like that. Like Well, yeah. Yeah. And then you’ve got one of the higher model. I think it’s like 29 or 28 or something. They got I like I like these. I actually like these. It’s actually not bad at all. like it’s a cool thing to have. I don’t know if I care for him, but you know, part of being a part of the camp was kind of hard. It’s one of them camp and and a lot of souvenir like we see it all the time. We brought in that Sabrina EBL before the Peace Jam and me and you were talking about we was like we had no clue on what it what it was and then we found out oh you had it to be a part of to be a part of the game but you had to be there to be a part of the game type of thing. What Nike basketball does really well though is they keep a lot of their shoes under wraps. Like a lot of with the GRs or Nike ret or Jordan retros, I mean, they don’t like you you kind of see before they’re coming out, you see what’s coming out. But with Nike basketball, it’s like boom, it’s a surprise. It just pops up. They kind They kind of hold on. They kind of hold on to that. That’s a good point. That’s a selling point. I mean, speaking of sneakers, I mean, again, you in that space. We have been in that space before. I mean, we still in that space deal with Stefest, but we’ve had two drops that just released this past weekend. One was the the um undefeated force. So, this is a video from the line out in LA at the Undefeated store in LA for everybody who won a raffle. This is the line for that raffle for them to pick up their shoes. Brings back good memories. And then we had the 10 that dropped this past weekend where people was like, we just had that conversation. Don’t get me started with that. Oh, I don’t want those because of the to I don’t want those to box. Look at this. There’s a line for the 10 that no one wanted. Yeah. No one wanted the 10. Everybody’s going crazy about the fives. The the undefeated fives. Question is to you guys, and we’ve said this before, are sneakers dead? Just seeing those two videos. No. No. Just those two videos. Yeah. No, they’re not dead. Undefeated fours. People’s people people’s excited about when they came when they said they was coming last year back this year and then they we starting to see them pump out like crazy. I mean all the all the content. Yeah. In the still tens like you said. I think those two different videos showed both perspectives of sneakers right now cuz the undefeated four is the the resale market’s like this, right? So that’s probably why that line’s so long and then the 10’s people want to wear them and the line’s still long. So, I don’t think Sneaker Culture is dead at all cuz both sides of the, you know, they’re both still very active, the resale and the people that want to wear them. So, I think same way with the Metallic Fives, those are going five, $600. And those are supposed to be a GR, you know what I mean? So, but like we said before, the market is so the market is a stock market. I mean, so it’s like some stuff is going to do well, some stuff that you think going to do well because the other shoe did well, you’ll be like, “Oh, I need to go buy into this.” Like you really don’t because everybody might not want this shoe versus what they what these other sho even I mean despite this the the steel 10 hadn’t released since what 14 and then that was kind of the OG model and then it was back to school time that I think all then it was a limited release of them too. We already know what the undefeated fours are all about but but the crazy thing is too like we didn’t we haven’t brought a picture of them up but like the pizza fours yes those are going crazy too. Those are good. Are they really? Yeah. In Memphis they are. Oh, I don’t sell them for selling for too low. Like are they really going crazy? In Memphis. Here they are. Here they are. Like we sold out in like a day. But I thought you meant like resale price. Did I sell them too low? I’m just saying cuz people wanted them like the type of thing. It’s like you don’t know what’s like especially like we brought up being in certain cities. Some shoes are going to do a lot better than others. Oh yeah. Memphis like any OG or any like the thing is a lot of people say oh they’re not a OG pair like a red truck. They’re not gonna do well. the pizza, man. I had so many grown men upset because they didn’t make them in men’s sizes. People wanted that pizza. Like, we had that in here. We unboxed. We was like, the quality is actually good on like I think they would have did well if they were men. Oh, yeah. They would have flown off. I think I think they would have too. I mean, speaking of shoes that released uh this past weekend, um Adidas Archive had a they team they partnered with a museum out in Puerto Rico doing bad one of Bad Bunny concert was out there and man that concert looks so that concert looked the fire. They had over 150 Bad Bunny releases and unreleased. You want the F1 joint? Those look cool. Yes, he just got his F1. He he presented his F1 car this past weekend, too. So, this museum is open to the public uh starting actually tomorrow up until I think the the end of the month out in Puerto Rico. So, they going to have they have over 150 pair of Bad Bunny releases and samples on display. I like I like that color. So, it’s only display. They can’t purchase them. They can’t purchase them. You they everything’s just on display. So, it’s it’s models that we’ve seen released. Some hadn’t released yet. That’s like the That’s like the the throwback. Yeah, the throwback ladies who like that. Jordan and Cursive. I’mma pass it down that way. These are really good. Extended sizes, too. Extended size. So, I’m these are fire. One thing that I like about denim shoes, I think the Actually, I might be wrong. I think it’s just 12 women. 12 women. Yeah. No big enough on these. That’s big enough for me. Sorry, Bigfoot fellas. Um, yeah. One of my favorite thing about denim shoes is like you get customizers and all that. Get a hold of these, you can do all types of stuff to them. True. Even the inside is kind like for the winter time. This is good for the winter time of like that insole of the like that cloth real thickness on the inside. I mean, the tongue is denim. Even the the the the tag behind the the the stitching behind there denim as well too. Like these are actually nice. Like these are actually these are good. These are good right here.
