This Would Be BIG! | New York Knicks News ft. Mikal Bridges

What’s going on everybody? You’re watching Nicks now by chat sports. I am your host Marshall Green. Appreciate everybody for stopping by. On today’s video, we’re talking about how male Bridges and his second year with the New York Knicks, his first year playing under Mike Brown should result in a bounceback year. We’ve talked about that since Mike Brown has taken over for Tom Tibido and Fred Katz of The Athletic. Shout out to him. Go support his work over there. He had an awesome podcast on his podcast, the Cat Cats and Shoot podcast. Go check it out. Where he talked about why he believes that Bridges is due for a big year. We did a video earlier this summer where Mike Brown had to answer five major questions. And one of our first questions was is how is he going to unlock male Bridges? And just simply he has to. One of the main reasons I feel as if Tom Tibido was let go is because he didn’t really tap in to Bridges. He wasn’t able to take him to another level. And look, not every coach is going to hit 100% in those regards. We saw Tom Tibido take Josh Hart to another level. We saw that with Jaylen Brunson. We saw that as well with OG Anobi, Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randall, Emanuel Quickley, like Tom Tibido has elevated a lot of players when he was the coach of this team, but he could not figure it out for Michael Bridges. A lot of other reasons Tibs was fired, but I do think the fact that Bridges took a step back and what the Knicks were expecting was a reason that he was gone. And Cat said this kind of alluding to it. I would be surprised if Male Bridges didn’t have a much better season. Pretty significantly better. It didn’t work for him with Tips from kind of a personality standpoint, from an X’s and O’s standpoint. Also, non-TIPS factors, I think he’ll be a lot better. And I think it’s been evident throughout the season that Tibs and Bridges did not get along all that much. There was that part of the season where Bridges talked to the media saying, “We’re playing too many minutes and we’re not playing our bench guys enough.” And then Tibs was asked about and he said, “We never had a conversation.” And Tibs doesn’t really throw people under the bus. Rarely ever does that, but he for the first time really ever as the Knicks head coach mentioned a player’s name in not really the best light when he did Male Bridges. And we saw Bridges get benched in some fourth quarters as well with the New York Knicks. like he lost his confidence. He was not the same player that he was with the Brooklyn Nets. And I’m not expecting him to be a 22 23 point per game scorer, but he has to get back to who he was offensively in Brooklyn. That’s the player the Knicks traded for. Like if they are going to win a championship, if they’re going to put a banner in the Raptors at MSG, they need Bridges to be the best version of himself. A guy that can take the ball out of Jaylen Brunson’s hand. A guy that can run the offense sometimes by himself. Someone that is a knockdown three-point shooter. Someone that can effectively score in the half court and that you can game plan as well for like 17.6 points per game this past year for him. Not the worst in the world. 50% from the deck. I like that he was smart with the shots he take he took. But I need more leash for Bridges this year. I just need more food on his plate. And 35.4% 4% from three in the regular season was not good enough. And when he dipped down to 33.3% in the playoffs, that definitely wasn’t getting it done. He and OGN and an OB need to be better in the playoffs as consistent three-point shooters. Also, the assists per game going from 3.7 in the regular season down to 2.9, not good enough, especially when the turnovers in the playoffs went up as well. I want to see him be more confident as a ball handler. I want to see him getting back to who he is offensively. And I think there is a clear and easy path for it. We saw Mike Brown coach Demar De Rozan in Sacramento. He’s a mid-range scorer. Miguel Bridges is a mid mid-range scorer. I want to see some of those same sets run for him. But the number one thing I want to see him improve on is get back to being who you are as a scorer from downtown. Remember that story before the year of all the videos of Male Bridges changing his jump shot? There was a hitch in that jump shot. Like that cannot happen this year. And I think that partially affected him in the season because he focused on the off seasonason of changing his shot instead of perfecting his shot. And he needs to perfect it this year. I’m not asking for Bridges to be a 42, 43, 39% scorer from downtown. I’m just asking him to be who he is offensively. Like when he came to the Knicks, he didn’t shoot the three nearly as well as he had in the past. It was actually the worst he had shot from downtown in the last 5 years of his career. I’m not expecting 42% from downtown like he was with the Phoenix Suns. But can you get back to 38.2%? Can you get closer to 37.2? And you might say, Marshall, that’s not that big of a difference. That is a big difference, especially in the playoffs when every single shot and miss shot affects the game. Get back to 37 a half, 38% from downtown. I want to see that. And I also want to see him just be more of an aggressive player on the offensive end. He lost all confidence in himself and his ability to finish around the rim. And I don’t know if it’s because he wants to continue to never miss a game, which he deserves a lot of credit for, but you also don’t just get promotions and pay raises at your job for showing up. You need to execute and overperform and getting back to the free throw line, attacking downhill, finishing around the rim, and not fading away on fast breaks. That needs to happen for Bridges. 1.4 free throws per game. Cannot happen. Just like we talked about the three-point percentage, the worst it had been in the last five years. The free throws attempted per game, the worst it had been in the last five years. I’m not asking for nine free throws a game like Jaylen Brunson. Can you get back to 3.9 like you were your last year in Brooklyn? I mean, you attempted in the 28 or 29 games you played for Brooklyn in the year that you were traded from Phoenix, you averaged 6.6 free throws per game, 4.3 over the full calendar season. But can you get somewhere from 3.9 to 4.3? Can you get to two and a half? Can you double this up? You got to be more aggressive. It can’t just be Jaylen Brunson, the only guard that can create his shot getting downhill. Couple more thoughts on Male Bridges, but I wanted to let you guys know this Jaylen Brunson jersey, it is on sale and you can get it today by going to this link and this link only chatsports.com/brunsonale. If you want to rep the captain, the face of the New York Knicks and the heartbeat, get his jersey today. This link chatports.com/brunsonale. I also want to see him just work more on ball. And that kind of ties into him being to the getting to the free throw line more, attack downhill more. Specifically, I want to see him run the pick and roll a little bit more. We’ve talked at length about how Jaylen Brunson is one of the best scorers off of the ball. Like when it comes to points per spot up, his ability to knock down, catch, and shoot threes, the Knicks need to use that more. That’s one of their best strengths on this team. A way they can do that, Male Bridges has the ball in his hands a little bit more. When you go back and you look at the 2024, 2025 season, Jaywin Brunson ran 9.4 pick and rolls per game. Campaign 2.8, 8. It can’t be a 7.3 pick and roll per game difference between Brunson and Bridges. I obviously want Brunson to lead the league and lead the team in that. No doubt about it. But Bridges has to have his number called a little bit more. Mike Brown is going to be tasked with finding ways to unlock him and raise the floor and also the ceiling of his offensive game. Bridges and Brown, they hold the keys to the Knicks putting up a banner at Madison Square Garden. At the end of the day, just be who you are. I’m not asking you to be any person you’re not. And I do think myself included put unfair expectations on you. You didn’t ask to be traded to the New York Knicks for the control of five plus first round picks. But that’s the way the NBA works. You got traded for a superstar package. People held you to a superstar standard and you fell short. It’s okay. But there were a lot of great moments for Male Bridges this year. Go ask the Portland Trailblazers. Go ask the San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day. Go ask the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals. He had overall some really high highs, but the lows were also really low. I’m looking for a gradual peak from him this year. And getting back to being that allstar caliber player he was and why the New York Knicks pursued him in such a heavy chase factor. My question to you guys is, do you think he could do it? If you do, show him some love in the comments section and type those 25s below. If you think Bridges bounce back and get back to the player he was to help this team be a championship contender, type those 25s down below. And make sure you are following me on social media. With Mike Brown onboard as the new coach for the Knicks many think Bridges will take another step as a player. NY Knicks insider Fred Katz said, “I would be surprised if Mikal Bridges didn’t have a much better season…pretty significantly better…It didn’t work for him with Thibs…from kind of a personality standpoint…from an Xs & Os standpoint…Also non-Thibs factors…I think he’ll be a lot better.” NY Knicks Now by Chat Sports shares his thoughts on Bridges and if this will be a bounce back season for him in this Knicks YouTube video!

  2. To me, Bridges totally overrated. Not aggressive, not a tough player. Decent shooter. Can’t guard pt of attack. Mikal is not a killer..Dante was a killer..I doubt Mikal ever will be—I think he’s soft. I hope proves me and other doubters wrong. Also, not a good sign when a player questions their coach in the media. Doesn’t speak well for his attitude/approach.

  3. I think that Thibbs never realized how much the pick and roll worked better when Mikal and KAT ran it but also we gotta stop acting like the captain wasn't shooting the Knicks out of games plus Brunson isn't the best distributor

  4. 25 – Don't be so critical. He has the skills and will do much better this year with coach Brown. Was he worth 6 picks or 150 million. Probably not but the knicks made an investment and they must do the best with it.

  5. Brunson only gets 9 pick and rolls a game? I feel like I would see two or three on one play sometimes? That’s just seems so off 😂😂 but the numbers are what they are
