Did The Spurs Make a Mistake?
The reaction to De’aran Fox signing this max extension has been disgusting. Like, do you guys not understand this man won a clutch player of the year award, if anything, he deserves an extra 100 million for that alone. Okay, obviously I’m trolling, but I do stand by the fact that this contract isn’t as bad as everyone else is making it out to be. De’Aran Fox is an elite point guard, not only when it comes to being a secondary scoring option to WBY, but also as a playmaker for the team. Sadly though, not enough people give him credit for this because his numbers with the Spurs were lacking. Which, by the way, these numbers were only low because he was playing through a pretty horrible hand injury. But even if I think Fox is a great player and could be the franchise point guard for some time, that doesn’t mean the Spurs aren’t dealing with a pretty weird situation after this extension. Stfan Castle has a ton of hype around him after winning rookie of the year. So, it’ll be interesting to see how his minutes play out. And then they just drafted Dylan Harper with the second overall pick, adding to the log jam of guards on this roster. If you want me to be honest though, I still don’t care. This team is winning three rings by 2030.

People don't understand contracts. His contract ends right as castle and Harper are up for extensions. They'll grow playing with him and then will be able to sign them long term. People need to do a little research.
If fixing the problem with the number of guards is the point, Vassell is the first on the block.
He's a veteran point guard. Teach the young ones, let him get his bag before he has to go. Who else do the spurs have to pay for the next few years

I'm excited for Fox to finally be in a stable (relative to Kings) organization. I don't know about whether the team will get rings, but I'm confident Fox will do well with the team and can go further than he did when he was with the Kings.

Payed Fox and as the cap increases each year his salary won't be as big as it seems percentage wise.
Wemby, Castle, and Harper won't be off their rookie salaries for a few more years. They'll have enough for Wemby and Castle, but when Harper is due Fox contract will be done.
