NEW LOOK MAVS vs BUCKS – Cooper FLAGG – Myles TURNER – D’angelo RUSSELL – NBA 2K25

NEW LOOK MAVS vs BUCKS – Cooper FLAGG – Myles TURNER – D’angelo RUSSELL – NBA 2K25

We’ve got two of the top offensive teams in this one. Yeah, but my focus is on the other end tonight. Defense, the team that can come up with just a few timely stretches of stops. I think they win. Now, a look at Dallas’s starting lineup. Derek Lively is out there with Davis and there’s D’Angelo Russell. Then it’s Thompson now on Kumbbo following the three-point attempt by Anthony Davis. And that one’s good by Yiannis. And you love watching Giannis operate inside. So assertive and forceful. Pass to Wively. Davis with it. Thompson outside. And that one falls coming off of Davis’s feed. And that’s exactly what he’s looking for. Draining the triple. Earlier, David Aldridge spoke with head coach Doc Rivers. What’d you find out, David? He told me now that team goes as Anthony Davis goes. When AD is feeling good and he’s in rhythm, everything clicks. Coach said we’ll need a team effort at both ends. Our communication has to be excellent and even then we’re not going to completely stop him, guys. Thank you, David. Over to the wing. Russell kicks to Thompson. Dallas moving it around inside. Here’s Wively and the call on the shot that sends him to the line. It’s going to be on Miles Turner. Clearly a foul. Well, we know GA, the Mavs are so adept at hunting the matchups they want. They’re patient and methodical. They they never look like they’re in a rush, right? Even when you send a double or trap the ball, the Mavs stay calm and know where to go. It It’s what makes slowing down their pick and roll so difficult. [Applause] The first free throw is good. And Greg, two seasons ago, the Bucks ranked first in defensive rating. Last season, they dropped down to number 19. Yeah, shifting defensive schemes, coaching changes, also swapping Drew Holiday for Damen Lillard. But they can and should be better than 19. [Applause] And both free throws good for Lively. And Zo onto Dumbo will bring it up for the Bucks. It’s a three-point game. Out of bounds. Dallas takes possession. And we have to take another glance at that powerful rejection and making a statement right away, letting them know they won’t get any easy ones when he’s around. And so just over a minute and a half played. Thompson outside [Applause] has a screen for Thompson. Off target from outside Russell against Porter. Pass to Yiannis to the middle and slammed in by Turner. Well, that’s called positioning and Turner has the verticality to make it easy. Davis against Ardumbo [Applause] and it’s good off the back of the rim and in. Well, there’s an unpredictability to his offensive game. He is always keeping the defense off balance. Outside Green. [Applause] Bounce pass from Trent from deep. Yiannis. The Mavericks pull it in. to the paint onto the Kumbbo with the steel. Oh, and here we go. Green’s got it. The fast break chance. Trent outside. Trent a screen on Davis. Here’s onto Tacumbo. Great D that time from Davis. Mavericks leading by three. Throws it up high. He’s looking for Russell and finds him down low. I good. And it’s Russell picking up the assist. What you love about D’Angelo Russell, he can impact winning with both his scoring and his passing. And we’ve got a timeout called by Doc Rivers. He wants to make some adjustments to the game plan. Clearly, [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Outside Porter Turner with a Green fires from deep and it’s Klay Thompson with the rebound. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession from deep. That’s in. He’s got two made now and he’s shooting two for three. And beginning to take charge of this game. This could be a crucial point. Well, working hard, building out a small lead, but you can’t afford any kind of let down here. Now, here’s Young. Will it go? Pass to Trent. And again, the Bucks miss. Well, certainly not the best defensive effort, but this guy can’t make them pay for their laziness. Porter against Russell. Here’s Davis. Ronda Kumbo and Davis can’t get it to go. Greg, as you were saying, beyond the blocks, what makes Anthony Davis special on defense is the way he navigates the floor. Kevin, most bigs can get picked on in pick and roll action. Davis, though, too quick and smart to take advantage of. He can slip screens, edge, switch, and recover like he’s a three and D wing. Well, exactly what you want from the guy in your pick and roll roll position. He’s got to be able to set a firm screen and then find his opening. Now, here is Davis. Still scoreless. Plenty of space. Good. And it’s Porter with the ball for the Milwaukee Bucks. Trailing here by eight. [Applause] And foul on the shot. So he’ll get a chance at the line. You know, Doris, there’s a notion that big men can take a little longer to develop. What have you seen from Miles Turner? That he’s turned himself into a complete basketball player, Kevin, and think there were years because he was playing alongside another big that he was out of position. But he can shoot the basketball with range. He’s got strength and he’s a tremendous shot blocker. And the first one drops. Well, the athleticism that Miles Turner brings to the center spot is quite remarkable. This guy an exceptional player on both sides of the floor. Anony’s checked in for Trent and Dallas also making a switch. Washington’s checked in. And he makes both free throws. Well, Greg, it took 40 years, but the Bucks finally won their second NBA title back in 2021. Yeah, and Kareem leading that 71 squad. Giannis was the man in 2021, averaging 35 and 13 during the finals, closing out the Suns with that 50 piece in game six. And it’s Russell missing. Bucks trail by six. Green dishes do it to Kumbbo. [Applause] And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. That’s on D’Angelo Russell. You know, you were talking about Giannis. He can put up 30 a game without taking many shots from the perimeter. That’s a tall order these days, especially because he gets doubled every single time. No good on that one. I think what makes Giannis special is how uncomplicated he is. The man is just an incredible pure athlete who simply loves the game of basketball. That’s all there is to it. Good on the second free throw. Now Thompson. He has six [Applause] outside. Davis to Wively on the wing. Thompson covered by Anthony. They double him with Yiannis. Two on the clock and Davis wide open. He shoots. Good. And the assist goes to Russell. Davis has got five now. It’s always a good sign when the three is falling for Davis. It really opens up the rest of this game. A moment now to hear from our sideline reporter, Hall of Famer David. David, Kevin, thank you very much. Anthony Davis broke his defense down for me. He said, “I can block shots, switch on to anybody, guard the pick and roll. I can guard the post. I can guard the pin down.” So that’s my ability. My ability defensively is to do everything, Kevin. And he does everything. David, thank you so much. And the first one at the line is good. Cole Anthony, a guy who has just tremendous feel for the game. He’s obviously been around it from the time he was very young. Just understands where the ball should be at all times. Good passer, aggressive scoreer. Miss He doesn’t get the second one. Mavericks leading by seven. Outside Russell to the wing right side. Here’s Wiveley. Top of the key. Washington. Dallas moving it around. Thompson misses and it’s Anthony with the ball for Milwaukee. That one’s in. His first shot this game. I love it when guards are willing to get on the inside and go ahead and make plays. Cole Anthony, a scorer by nature. Now here’s Davis. He’s got five. [Applause] And the rejection by Yiannis. lets it go from 14 and he hits the jump shot. Now just a three-point Maverick lead outside Davis. Here’s Washington and oh boy, a lot of contact there, but he gets the call and will shoot two. And when you look at PJ Washington, his value DB lies in his defensive versatility. Well, he’s cross positional. You can switch virtually every position with him on the defensive end. There’s a strong physical presence, but maybe my favorite attribute is he’s fearless. There’s a toughness and an edge. And boy, you give him a big shot to take, he’s not going to hesitate. That free throw missing. I think you have to admire the aggressiveness with which PJ Washington plays every single night. Bobby Poris has checked in for Turner and he’s good on the second. Bucks trail by four. outside. Porter Jiannis against Davis. [Applause] Yiannis inside Green up on top outside. Porter hands it from downtown. Good to see Porter Jr. knocking down the triple. Needs to keep taking and making those shots. Now here is Russell. Scoreless thus far. Davis finds Lively. Russell from long range. Milwaukee with the rebound. And here’s Yiannis Green with a screen on Russell. Back to Green. three-pointer and the rebound goes to the Mavericks. Davis has got his fourth rebound with that last one here tonight and finished off by Lively. Yeah, that’s next level stuff from AD. He draws the eyes of the defense and then locates the open man. Bucks trail by three. Porter looking it over. Pass to Poris. It’s on the Kumbbo on the wing. [Applause] And two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the contact. That one on Davis. Man, with that skill set at 611, Giannis might be the toughest guard in the league. And guys, let’s get your take on the scoring breakdown for the Mavericks. absolutely dialed in from beyond the arc so far in this one. The defense is surrendering the long range shot here early on and their assist total also impressive early creating with the pass and playing for teammates. And he knocks down the first one. Torian Prince. He’s checked in for the Bucks. Trent comes in for Porter. Got to get it. Let’s get it. Get it. Good. And both free throws. Good for Giannis. The Mavericks have gone an even 50% from the field. They are seven of 14 for the game. And Jason Kidd is called timeout. He’s made the decision he wants to huddle up with his guys. Go see go. [Applause] Hello heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Milwaukee making a switch here. Koosma’s checked in. Here’s Washington. Washington with a screen on Prince again. The miss by the Mavericks. Listen, that’s a shot he can make, but obviously the defense okay letting him shoot it. Koozma outside. Prince kicks to Trent. The Bucks working the ball around. Six to shoot. Here’s Koozma. A miss that time would have put him up. Well, we didn’t see the same kind of control we’re used to seeing from him. This guy is usually a tremendous finisher. for the screen on Koosma. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. Kyle Kosma picks one up. I tell you what, he earned his money on that foul. For Nellis, they had gone three of four at the free throw line tonight. Shooting two. First free throw is good. So he gets them both. Bucks trail by three. Here’s Anthony. Five points in the game. Port is a screen on Russell. [Applause] Anthony down low. Russell’s there. Just five to shoot. Here’s Koosma and he could not get that one to go. Lot of contact and he’ll go to the line for two. And we know Koosma’s always been a terrific scoreer, but Greg, he’s developed as a passer over time. And Kevin, early in his career, Koozma wasn’t called on to be a leader, but he’s grown into that role, and he puts effort into orchestrating for his teammates. Oh, I got a rebound. Got to get it. Good rebound. Big rebound. Let’s get it. Get it. Good. Back. No good on the free throw. ADB. One thing about Kyle Kosma at 69, he is a big wing. What I love about him, Kevin, is that he’s such a strong shooter. He can bang in the post if you need him to. He always puts up solid rebounding numbers. And I think the final piece we’ve seen him developing is his ability to distribute the basketball. He hits the second from the line. What I love about Kyle Koosma is this guy understands there’s more to the game than just scoring. That’s a change from his rookie season. Now he wants to contribute defensively and he gets on the glass, guys. Now here’s Washington. [Applause] Gafford sets the pick for Washington. The three-pointer off the mark. The Bucks train. Guzma passes to Anthony. It’s Portoris high post. Gafford’s there. Koozma kicks to Trent. Milwaukee no good. that time either. The Mavericks have gotten seven of their first 16 field goal attempts to go down here in the first. [Applause] There’s 57 seconds left here in the first quarter. And Briggs has got the ball here for Milwaukee. Deflects the pass. Here’s Christie. Cribs down the breakaway slam. Well, that’s why they’re in front. Aggressive play at both ends. Nicely done. Christy against Trent. Koozma outside to the inside and Portis throws it down. We have seen more than just a willingness from Cole Anthony to share the basketball. We’ve seen a real aptitude in this regard. Now here’s Marshall. Nothing on the board. Washington with the screen on Prince. Here’s Marshall and he gets the whistle. Two free throws coming up. The Mavericks have shot a good percentage from the free throw line so far. They’ve made five out of six. And and their free throw percentage as a unit last year, 76% right around the middle of the road. Shoot two. That’s good for Marshall. And they haven’t let points get away from them at the line tonight. That’s always something that’ll allow a coaching staff to breathe a little easier. Marshall hits them both. Milwaukee with the ball. Four-point game outside. Anthony [Applause] inside. Nice shot by Poris. And they’ve done well at taking advantage of some late defensive rotations and getting the ball in the paint. So, at the end of one quarter of play, still a close game. Mavericks lead by two and we’ll be back in just a moment with the start of the second quarter. and getting going again here in the second quarter. Fairly close game so far. And guys, what’s your take so far in the Maps? Well, they use the fast break to generate some easy buckets before the defense could get set. And we know this. Every team in the league now seems to be looking to play with pace. So with Davis sitting on the bench. Here’s the five for Jason Kidd right now. Big man on the floor for him. It’ll be Washington and Gford. Then there’s Christie and it’s Marshall in at the three. Now here’s Prince still yet to score. Fades. Mavericks with the rebound. Here’s Washington and no good. Great D that time from Boris. Koozma outside. Cortis the pick for Koosma and no good. Had a chance to take the lead there. Washington passes to Christ. And here is Marshall. Pass to Christie and he’s good on the three ball. Christiey’s got five now. Greg, you look at today’s point guards. So many different types that can be effective. And there’s a lot more freedom for point guards to kind of explore the parameters of their game. Sometimes it’s steady in an offense. Other times it’s to ignite it. And they pick up two. Boy, the defense makes Cole Anthony work for it. But boy, he doesn’t back down. Marshall deciding where to go with it. Oh, and that one, no question, powered it down. Oh, I dunk you very much. He He can really fly. And you combine that, Greg, with some nice penetration, too. And you’ve got two points. Now, here’s Anthony. He has seven. Well, you have to stay with the play when you feel contact because you get a chance for maybe a three-point play in this opportunity. Free throw coming for Mr. Cole Anthony for Milwaukee. They have shot 70% from the free throw line tonight. 7 for 10. Yeah. And and fairly decent a season ago. About 77% from the line. And that one misses. Good on the second free throw. [Applause] And we’re about 2 minutes into the second quarter here for the screen on Koosma. [Applause] Here’s Washington. It’s rebounded by Portoris. Portoris has got four rebounds now tonight. Koozma kicks to Anthony. Poris against Washington. Here’s Koozma and the Bucks miss again. Listen, simply put, he’s got to finish that. It’s not like the defender was right on top of him. Pass to Gaffford over Prince. Solid play in the low block and that one’s good. Gaffford’s got his first basket. Bucks trail by six. Second quarter play with almost three minutes gone. Here’s Anthony and foul on the shot. He’ll shoot two at the free throw line. Well, Cole Anthony mixing it up on the interior. Nice job drawing the contact. This guy is unafraid. And this is his third trip to the line tonight. That free throw good from Anthony. coming up. So, Anthony nails both of them. Mavericks leading by four. Christy the pass to Gaff to the middle. [Applause] Was a screen by Washington. Here’s Marshall. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. No question he got bumped on that shot. He’s gone two for two at the line so far. And taking a look back at his performance at the line a year ago, rock solid 79%. Shoot two. He misses the free throw. And the second free throw. Good. And Anony’s got the ball here for the Milwaukee Bucks. Trailing by five. Shoots and he wills that one in. Sinking right through off the back iron. There are certain guys who know and believe they can be a top option offensively. Cole Anthony Cooking right now. And now the latest from our reporter David Alders. Kevin, thanks. The Mavericks at last season’s trade deadline added length by acquiring Daniel Gaffford and PJ Washington. Coach Jason Kid says they help on both ends. Gafford has the ability to roll, has great hands, PJ can put the ball on the floor and guard one through five. And defensively, they both great physicality. Kevin David, there is an argument to be made. That was one of the best trades at midseason this league has seen in a very long time. Now here’s Trent. Hasn’t made one yet. He hits the back iron and sinks the shot. How about the assist coming off the deck. What a pretty bounce pass. Koosma against Washington. [Applause] Covered by Anthony from down in the low post. It goes. Eight points for him. Good job attacking. Those restricted area shots are what every NBA team is looking for. Cortis finds Trent. [Applause] Six on the shot clock. Milwaukee needs to get off a shot here. The three from Anthony. That one doesn’t go. Listen, we know the mid-range game is in this guy’s arsenal, but you wonder, should he have moved it just one pass more and Gford throws it down. Oh, phenomenal alleyoop slam there. They are taking advantage of a team that looks lost out there. Well, Daniel Gford has carved out Doris a role in this league with his hustle, his intensity, and his rim projection. All of those things you just mentioned, Kevin, are skills. He plays hard on both ends. Gafford can defend the paint. He’s going to crash the glass. He’s going to run the floor. Listen, figure out how you can fit and do your job. The Bucks have made 10 of their 14 tries at the free throw line in the game. Get it. Get it. Get it. The first one falls and the Bucks with some changes. Giannis Adumbo’s checked in for Kyle Koosma and it’s green and for Trent and the Mavericks will go for a different look here. And both free throws good for Anthony. Mavericks leading by three. Williams scanning the floor. Davis sets a screen. Fires from the wing and it’s Dallas with another. Here’s onto Tumbo. He has five. Portis sets the pick for Kumbbo. Giannis with the dunk and throwing it down hard. Giannis will take on any defender. Nice finish that time. Williams against Anthony. Here’s Davis. Doesn’t go for him. Giannis with some nice deep fires from 18. The basket is good. That’s his sixth attempt in his third make. With defenders having to worry about the drive, the pass onto Takmpo can usually find space from the mid. Now here’s Washington [Applause] and they call the foul. So he’s got the and one chance here to make it a three-point play. Yeah, how about that one? Able to maintain control and finish the play. This is his third free throw attempt of the game. And some changes here for the Bucks. Isles Turner comes in for Bobby Portoris and Kevin Porter subbed in for Torian Prince. Then for the Mavericks, Klay Thompson, he’s checked in for Dante Exum and D’Angelo Russell subbed in for Williams. That free throw good from Washington. Bucks trail by four. And Kumbbo with the ball. He’s got nine. Pulls up on the elbow. Not enough on that one as it misses. Normally he’ll drill that shot. And I’m I’m sure they’ll look to find him in that spot again. Well, no doubt. Very good play call. Good execution. Sometimes it just doesn’t fall. And it goes out of bounds. That one off Turner. Well, you’re talking 6’11 and big time length. Send it back, Mr. Turner. And that kind of stifling effort on defense needs another look. And in a close game, blocks like that are so clutch. And that could be a real difference maker here tonight. Here is Davis. He has five. Here’s Washington. [Applause] Milwaukee with the rebound. Turner’s got his fourth rebound in this one. Hans to Kumbbo dishes to Porter outside. Green good and a nice assist from Porter. Green’s got himself on the board with three there. You can’t just stop when there’s a pick setup. Got to fight over it as a defender. You know exactly what that takes. It takes energy. It takes activity. It takes intensity. Out of bounds. Milwaukee takes possession. Trans jacked in for the Bucks and Zoanis will bring it up for Milwaukee. They trail by one. Washington against Green. Giannis outside. Oh yeah, nifty move on to Tumbbo. Converts inside. It’s starting to look like a repeat of last night, guys. He’s battling really hard out there. Oh, he sure is. I mean, these past two games, his energy level has been sensational. Whether it’s a put back like that or other hustle plays, he’s been everywhere. I mean, the number of points they’ve scored in the paint already here is eyeoping. [Applause] Now Anthony, 14 points for him. Pass to Tumbbo and Davis pulls it down. The Mavericks have gone eight of 15 since we began the second quarter. Excellent shooting. And Thompson kicks to Davis. Now Russell. Some nice passing here by Dallas. Good. Thompson makes it look so easy. Well, the ability to rise and fire off the catch has defined Klay Thompson. Turner with a screen on Davis. Here’s onto Tumbo. Drops in the layup for two. And Dumbo has got 13 points. Coming off a big game, his confidence couldn’t be higher and coach knows it. Well, the best players to me deliver night after night after night. So, as long as he’s hot, keep riding it. And he shows us all what the breakaway rim was invented for. Can you believe he almost brought the whole thing down by hanging on that long? Now, here’s Anthony. Pass to Turner. [Applause] Shot clock at five. Here’s to Tumbo and Davis sends it back. What a play by Davis. You think you can get it over me? Nuh-uh. Not on my watch. Washington passes to Russell inside. Out to Thompson. Fires the three. Here’s Davis. Good work eventually by Turner. Bucks trail by four. Shoots it up. Trent can’t hit. Dallas has gone two of four from three-point range so far in the second quarter. Hangs home the trifecta. Seven points in the game. He can be a forgotten man in their offense sometimes, but the D still has to keep an eye on and we’ve got a timeout called by Doc Rivers. He wants a minute here to get things straightened out with his team. Let’s [Applause] go up. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Kevin Porter’s checked in for Cole Anthony. [Applause] to the inside. Kumbbo kicks to Turner. Pass to Green. Launches a three and it’s Klay Thompson with the rebound. Thompson’s got his fourth rebound in this one. Hustle with it. Now Davis guarded by Porter Thompson from long range. Rebound Yiannis under Kumbbo. Yiannis has got his fifth rebound in this one. [Applause] Green inside. He’s covered by Washington. Green kicks to Yiannis. Turner with a screen for Yiannis to the paint. And it’s slammed in by Turner. And really the playmaking skills that Giannis possesses are special. He he’s so difficult to guard and screen and rolls because of Now here’s Thompson. He’s got nine. Back to Davis and contact on the shot. So he’ll be shooting free throws here. It goes on Yiannis Kumbbo. I mean even from over here you can see that one pretty clearly. The Mavericks have shot nine of 11 at the free throw line. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And he makes the first. And one of the best big men in the game. Davis continuing to prove how dominant he is. Marshall, he’s checked in for PJ Washington. He makes one of two that time. And here’s Giannis. He’ll bring it up for the Milwaukee Bucks. Six-point game. Trent passes to Green. Turner with a screen on Davis. And how about the attack there from Giannis inside going right into the defense and still able to get the shot up. He’s made three of his four free throw attempts in the game. And guys, you might remember that he was not at his best from the foul line in their last outing. [Applause] First one falls Yeah. Back over here. Rebound. Both free throws good from Kumbbo. [Applause] Dallas leading by four. Davis finds Lively. Outside Russell. Davis setting the pick for Russell. Krills the three-pointer. That’s a nuanced understanding of pick and roll play. D’Angelo Russell. Nicely done. The Kumbbo up top. He’s guarded by Davis. Giannis passes to Trent. There’s the three and attempt at the Kumbbo picking up the assist. Giannis has got his fourth assist in this one. And some good action through the first two quarters as we reach halftime. The Mavericks on top. They lead by four. And we’ll get going after this from Milwaukee. We’ve got second half action for you. And if the next couple quarters are similar to the first, this one could go down to the last possession. You look at Ender Dumbo in this one. He’s been everywhere. And you know he’s going to put up points every time out. But boy, he made it look so easy in that first half. And let’s see if he continues that trend the rest of the way. He certainly has the talent and the endurance to do just that. Kevin Porter is out there with Gary Trent and there’s Miles Turner and then there’s Jakumba and it’s Green in at the three. The small forward. That’s the five to begin the second half for Doc Rivers. From deep Yiannis, it’s rebounded by Dallas. Davis has got his eighth rebound here tonight. Lots of room. The rebound by Turner. Turner’s got six rebounds here tonight. Pass to Trent. Good. And the assist goes to Yiannis. And Dumbo has got five assists in the game. [Applause] Here’s Porter. Yes, and the foul. That’s on D’Angelo Russell. Look at Porter going into attack mode, getting his shot and a trip to the line. And he’ll be shooting his first free throw of the game here. One shot. And they now lead as the free throw drops for him. Maverick shooting 47% from the floor. getting it done. Outside Russell. Thompson sets the pick for Russell. Pass to Davis. Lively with it. Turner covering. Just fine on the clock. Lively the pass to Davis. Here’s Russell with the three. It’s hauled in by Trent. And so it’s Trent with it. He brings it up for Milwaukee. They haven’t given up any points here in the second half. Out to the Kumbbo. No good. Never easy to stop this guy at the rim. But that is a beautiful contest right there. Pass to Wively. And here is Davis. Defended by Trent. Lets it go from 11. And it’s Davis missing. The Bucks have gone two of four here to start the second half. Trent gets to Green. [Applause] Turner inside. Russell’s there. Trent finds, touches a Kumbbo and he’s fouled pretty hard on that shot, but he’s got the chance to pick up the points at the line. That one on Davis. He’s had six attempts at the line, made five of them. shooting two. First free throw is good. That one misses the Mavericks trailer to the left side wing. Pass to Thompson. A three ball. Milwaukee with the rebound. Boy, a wide openen shot from his favorite spot. That is one he’d like to have back. Now here’s Youngs. He’s covered by Thompson. And to Kumbbo and again the pucks miss. You know what? Just a little fancy on that possession there. Just go up in rhythm. [Applause] A little over 2 and 1/2 minutes off the clock in this final half of play. And finished off by Lively. His performance today has just been so important. What a luxury to have a guy that’s that dependable. Now here’s Adid Kumbbo. He’s got 16. Turner and it’s Turner finishing it off. Those plays can make a difference in a game like this. Well, you know it’s going to fire up Greg. Everybody on that bench. Well, credit him for going for it, not settling, saying I’m going to attack. And so it’s Dallas with after the basket by Milwaukee. Fouled on the shot and picks up two points. So one free throw coming up. You can see the assertiveness right now of D’Angelo Russell. He welcomes the contact and powers and plays right through it. The Mavericks have shot 10 of 13 from the free throw line. [Applause] Free throw no good for Russell for Milwaukee. They’ve gone three of six in the third quarter. 50% from the field. Pass to Green left Trey and it’s out of bounds. The Bucks able to retain possession here. Third quarter of basketball here in just a little under three and a half minutes gone by. Shot clock at six. Here’s Yiannis and the call on the shot that sends him to the line. This will be his fifth trip to the free throw line. Shu that free throw no good and he looks totally out of sorts here at the strike. Those defenders aren’t afraid at all to body him up and force him to earn his points at the line. And the Mavericks making a change here. Washington’s checked in. No good at the strike this time. The second misses also. Gallas has gotten blank from three-point land so far in the third. Still 0 for three and he’s going up for the alley hoop. Turner with the steel. Now here’s Porter. He’s got six down low. [Applause] It’s Trent on the wing. That’s tipped. They recover it. Trent a screen on Russell. There’s Green with the three. sinks the three-pointer. Green’s got the lead up to three now for the Bucks. I’ll tell you, he’ll take that all day, every day. I’m sure he was shocked to find himself that wide open. And we’ve got a timeout called by Jason Kid. Wants to regroup and go over the strategy. [Applause] [Applause] Thompson finds Washington. Connects from three-point range. He’s got 11. See, to me, the more D’Angelo Russell passes the basketball, the better his team is. Encouraging to see him focus on it. There’s the lob at the Kumbbo. Stolen. [Applause] Washington against the Kumbbo. Washington passes to Russell. Thompson sets the pick for Russell. Out to Thompson for the lead. Good. And it’s Russell picking up the assist. And it’s a three-point Maverick lead. Anywhere on the arc, Thompson is a threat. You have to do all you can to run him off that line. [Applause] Lively against Turner. Back to Honda Kumbbo and the double up on Dumbo. Down to five on the shot clock. Shoots over Lively and it’s Giannis missing. He is singlehandedly dropping the temperature in here with that cold streak. He is trying to shoot his way out of it and it might be better for him to pass the basketball at this point. Now Porter after the miss three from Klay Thompson and so Milwaukee again turning it over. And so here is Dallas three-point lead. Turner with the steal. Porter against Russell. It’s rebounded by Dallas. Pass to Washington. Off target with his three. Milwaukee’s gone 104 in three-point shots here in the third. [Applause] onto the Kumbbo looking over the floor and a moment to look at the scoring approach in terms of where the points are coming from for Dallas. Guys, the D hasn’t had an answer for the three-point shooting, which is why they continue to just fire away from deep. Well, I also noticed guys how much they move the ball in this one. selfless, willing to pass the ball to a teammate with a better look. That’s good from Kumbbo. Milwaukee making a switch here. Anony’s checked in. Christy, he’s checked in for the Mavericks. Move back. And both free throws good for Giannis. And it’s Russell with the ball. He’ll bring it up for the Dallas Mavericks. It’s a one-point game. Three-pointer. Drains the three-pointer. Russell’s got eight. Well, the lefty stroke of D’Angelo Russell on display. This is a guard who can be effective with and without the ball. Pass to Trent. over Christie. Milwaukee no good that time either. Mavericks leading by four now Lively. Here’s Christie. Oh, he’s going up for the alleyoop here and finished off by Lively. Oh, and the lead gets bigger on a ridiculous offensive sequence. That dunk alone would have been spectacular. Never mind it coming at the end of an alleyoop. Turner finds Anthony. Turner with the screen for Anthony and it’s off from three-point range. The Mavericks have gone at a pretty good shooting pace. They’re six of 13 from the field here in the third [Applause] by Green. [Applause] Out to Russell. Launches it. Pocket six hits. Rebound Milwaukee. Anony’s got his fifth rebound right now in the game. Over Russell and it goes out of bounds. That one’s off Anthony Poris. He’s checked in for Milwaukee. Torian Prince comes in for Gary Trent. And Dallas with a change here, too. Marshall’s checked in. Mavericks leading by six. And we’ve got a timeout called by Jason Kid. He is going to have a discussion here on the sideline. [Applause] Prince against Christie. Pass to Russell. and he could not get that one to go. Out of contact and he’ll go to the line for two. You cannot be careless guarding D’Angelo Russell. This guy’s so good at putting the defense in tough spots. And these are his second and third free throws tonight. [Applause] They throw good. Russell Kyle Kosma’s checked in for the Bucks. The Mavericks also with a sub. Daniel Gaffford’s checked in for Derek Lively. That one falls. So he hits both of them. Bucks trail by eight. They could use a big shot here to get this offense going. Too many empty possessions right now. They need the basket. Here’s Turner fouled in the act of shooting. Gets the bucket anyway. So, a three-point play chance for him. Wow. Miles Turner showing a bit of physicality and getting his teammates fired up with the hoop and the harm. All right. This is his second trip to the free throw line. Behind the lane. Behind the lane. One shot. Now the Mavericks with it. They’re on a 13-5 run. [Applause] Portis against Washington. And the whistle blows. It’s going to be on Kyle Koozma. That’s foul number two for him. On defense Milwaukee trailing by five big Marshall passes to Gaffford. Well, we know Miles Turner does a ton of affecting the mind of the offensive player. How about that? You’re going to have to try to score over the top of him, folks. Offline with his three. And you could tell he thought that triple was going to fall. And Marshall kicks to Russell. And it’s sent back by Turner. And that’ll be Dallas as it goes out of bounds. Mavericks retain possession. offered a screen on Koosma. Marshall with it picked up by Portoris. Wed again and they’re able to recover again. The miss by the Mavericks and it’s Koozma with the ball for the Bucks. It’s a five-point game. Outside turnover [Applause] to Koozma. No one near him. That ball. Nice feed that time from Turner. All Koozma needed was the basketball. His feet were planted. He was ready on the catch. Pass to Gaffford. Back to Russell. Here’s Christie. Fires for three. Good on the triple. Christiey’s got eight. Their ability again to stretch the floor particularly in this second half. And guys, boy, when you’re hitting, it sure does work. It obviously opens up major options at the offensive end. Sinks the triple. It’s hard to make your way in today’s NBA without being a tremendous three-point shooter. Dorian Prince doing work from beyond the ark. Now here is Russell. He’s got 10 and Gle throws it down. Wow. And that sort of showmanship is just deflating right now to a team trying to get back into a game like this. Ouch. Greg, that is definitely an emphasis jam. A big apostrophe or exclamation point, maybe even a question mark. Here’s Anthony following the score by Dallas. Outside Turner. Pass to Koozma. Right here. Outside. Prince Lux passing it around. Four on the shot clock. Here’s Anthony. Rebounded by Gaffford. Listen, he can make that shot right there, but I do know they have other options they can go to. Out to the right wing. Christy the pass to Gaffford. Washington kicks to Russell. Washington sets the pick for Russell. Back to Washington. Marshall with it. He’s against Koosma. Washington finds Gford. It’s rebounded by Portoris. Portoris has got his fifth rebound right now in the game. And Koosma has it in the corner and he gets the whistle for the 3second call. Gary Harris, he’s checked in for Turner. Hardy, he’s checked in for Dallas. Mavericks leading by five. There’s 42 seconds left in the third quarter. Six to shoot. Dallas needs to get off a shot. Washington. That’s good. Listen, this guy is not the most dangerous threat from there, but you have got to honor the shooting a little bit. [Music] Anthony left side. And with that, the Maverick lead is cut down to just six points. And the bucket from Poris. You know, he’s been giving them points, but they still can’t seem to get over the hump tonight. And yes, it’s good. Christiey’s got five points now in the quarter. And here’s Koosma. Pass to Vortis. And Cortis throws it down. And although an undersized center, more than making up for it with some serious hops. And so it’s the Dallas Mavericks with a six-point lead at the end of the quarter. They’re pounding the ball inside and that’s where they’ve gotten their best production tonight. Back to the action in just a minute. And let’s take this opportunity now to show you. Our State Farm assist of the game. Yeah, an easy choice tonight. Look at the precision on this pass. Put it on a platform. And when you’re the beneficiary of a pass that good, you better deliver. And he did just that. Well, this has been a great contest so far, and I imagine the fourth quarter could have even more action in store for us. So, with David sitting on the bench, here’s the five for Jason Kid right now. Big man on the floor for him. It’ll be Washington and Gaffford. Christy is out there with Exum and it’s Marshall in at the three spot. Now here’s Anthony after Dante Exom’s miss and oh boy a lot of contact there but he gets the call and will shoot two and really the defense fouling there to to prevent the layup but that’s exactly what you need to do. Shooting two on the miss. He misses the free throw. And he’s had an attacking mindset all game and it’s gotten him to the line over and over. Those could be valuable points. And he sinks the second. Mavericks leading by five. Exom deciding where to go with it. It’s Washington high post. Clearly a foul. [Applause] You’re going to miss it. You’re going to make it. [Applause] And that one misses. [Applause] and the second free throw. Good. Bucks trail by six. Here’s Anthony outside. Poris inside. picked off in midair. [Applause] Prince against Christie. Pass to Washington. Shoots over Koosma and good and it takes a nice bounce off the right iron and down. Washington’s got the lead up to eight now for Dallas. Now here’s Anthony. He’s defended by Exom. Squeeze. Poris kicks to Koozma. No good on the triple. And so it’s Exom with it. He’ll bring it up for Dallas. Pass to Gaffford. To the middle. Here’s Marshall. [Applause] Off target there. That would have pushed the lead to double digits. Harris passes to Anthony. Portoris sets the pick for Anthony. It’s Portoris at top the key. Shoots over Gford and the shot is good. The Maverick lead has been cut down to six and the bucket from Portoris. The Mavericks have gone 104 since the end of the third quarter. [Applause] Washington against Koosma [Applause] and he gets the whistle. Two free throws coming up. It’s on Bobby Portoris. [Music] That’s Free throw. No good. [Applause] He hits the second from the line. Bucks trail by seven. [Applause] outside. Anthony drives to the hoop. It counts. And the foul. That’s on Dante Hexom. Boy, you can see the speed by Cole Anthony on display. He can mix speeds. He can come right at you. That’s a nice looking drive. One shot. That’s good from Anthony. Here’s Exum. Just a little under two and a half minutes have passed now here in the fourth. Washington against Koozma. Washington passes to Christie. Six on the shot clock now. Here’s Gford. He’s up a three. Out of hand on it. Pass to Anthony outside Boris. That’s in there. Anthony with the assist. Well, it’s absolute recognition from Cole Anthony, but how about your offense working to get a man that wide open? Pretty Washington with it. Count the bucket. And he’s got a free throw coming up as well. Yeah, heard the whistle and then kept his focus and able to still knock it down. And the Bucks making a change here. And Dumbo’s checked in. The Mavericks also with a sub. Davis has checked in. Bucks trail by four to the paint. Here’s Koosma. Count it. And how about that display of athletic ability? Koozma can contort his body when converting on those difficult shots. Now here’s Exum and the whistle blows. It’s going to be on Kyle Kosma. That’s his fourth foul of the contest. Well, if you’re just tuning in, welcome. We’ve got about three and a half minutes gone here in the fourth quarter. Davis with a screen on Koosma. Back to Davis. And it’s Davis with the jam. Yeah, baby. And he’ll get ahead of steam when there’s that much of a lane. You can’t get in AD’s way Davis against Giannis. I mean, even from over here, you could see that one pretty clearly. shooting two on the miss on the miss. And that one falls for Prince. And you watch Tori and Prince and how valuable he is to his team for a couple of reasons. Number one, he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. He defends at a high level and he can really stretch the floor. Off on that one. So he goes one for two at the line. Mavericks leading by three. Over in the corner, Washington. Pass to Exom. Here’s Christie. defended by Prince. Outside Davis back to Washington. Cortis brings the double team. Just four to shoot. And here’s Davis for three. Koozma pulls it in. Koozma’s got his fourth rebound with that last one here tonight from 13. Out to Tumbo. Can’t get it to go. Sometimes you just have an off day and this is one of those games for him. Davis kicks to Exom. Davis the pass to Exom. And here is Gaffford. Here’s Christie. Wow. Came this close to a four-point play. He’ll head to the line for three free throws. Yeah, he there was definitely some contact there on the three-point attempt. He throw good Christy. A different look for Milwaukee. Turner’s checked in for Bobby Ports. Green comes in for Kyle Kosma. And Kevin Porter subbed in for Torian Prince. Dallas also making some changes. Derek Lively, he’s checked in for Daniel Gaffford. Thompson comes in for PJ Washington. And D’Angelo Russell subbed in for Exon. And he can’t hit the second. [Applause] and he nails the third. You know, he didn’t get them all, but they’ll be able to breathe just a bit easier with the two-possession lead. Outside Green. Pass to Anthony over Christ. It’s rebounded by Dallas. Listen, offensively, they’re very comfortable with him taking that shot. It’s a good look under very little pressure. He just can’t convert. Here’s Christie Thompson from long range. Rebounded by the Bucks. Anony’s got seven rebounds in the game. To the inside, shooting foul. As the whistle blows, he’ll shoot two free throws. shooting two. It’s off. The first one falls. Trent checked in for the Bucks. Right here. We got this. We got this. on the miss. Oh, free throw is good from out of the Kumbbo. Dallas leading by three. Pass to Thompson. Russell sets a screen for Thompson. fires the three. Monte Dumbo pulls it in. Monte Dumbo has got seven rebounds in the game. Trent with the wideopen look. Good. And the assist goes to Yiannis. No hesitation whatsoever from Trent Jr. His mind is always thinking shot. [Applause] There’s the three. He’s now made half of those 10 shots in the game. That’s his fifth basket. The defenders need to recognize the importance of staying on him as we get into crutch time. And Turner kicks to Anthony. The Bucks working the ball around. Trent finds Giannis from 10 ft out. And another basket for Milwaukee. And that’s right in his wheelhouse looking to make an impact when it counts. This is a player who understands when the game is hanging in the balance. He knows it’s winning time. That’s what we call a power finish. There’s no such thing as gentle for the big man. [Applause] It’s rebounded by Dallas. Davis has got rebound number 10 tonight with that last one. Thompson outside pass to Russell. Jacks up a three. Green with the rebound. You’ve got to find a way to get yourself going in some other way because hoisting from three is not the answer. The shot by Turner. No good. And on an open look like that, he’s very gifted at making the weak coverage pay. Thompson outside beyond the arc on Tumbo. Pulls it in. And here’s Giannis. He’ll bring it up for Milwaukee. Trailing by four. back to Turner or the three. It’s rebounded by Dallas and he didn’t punish them for the weak coverage there, but they can’t count on him to continue missing. Russell dishes to Davis. I’m open. The shot comes out. Giannis with some nice D. Bucks have gone six of 12 from the field here in the fourth and even 50%. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. That one on Davis. Yeah, the defender all over him. shooting two. The first free throw is good. Kevin Porter’s checked in for Cole Anthony. Coming out here. Right here. And so he hits both. The Mavericks leading Thompson outside. Russell a screen on Trent. Back to Russell. That’s in coming off the assist from Thompson. Russell’s got nine points here in the second half. This guy an effortless score outside, inside, in between. Dynamic score is D’Angelo Russell. A nice shot there by Antumbo. And he’s someone the defense should be keying on, especially in this moment. I think he takes that kind of defense as a sign of disrespect. And he was more than happy to accept the challenge. Russell finds Wively. Shock up two there. Wivesley’s got four this quarter. And the precision passing of Russell this time out of the pick and roll. Trent outside back to Porter. Pass to on Kumbbo and Davis pulls it down. Davis has got rebound number 13 for him here tonight. Thompson with the bucket. Now this is his comfort zone. Blake Thompson beyond the arc. Such an easy look right there. Onto Tumbo. Passes to Turner. down low from six feet. That’s in. And the Dallas lead is cut down now to just five on the bucket from Green. Well, the the pick didn’t exactly neutralize the defender, but but good concentration on the finish to still get the basket. Davis with a screen on Green and the rejection by Andre Kumbo. And onto Zako’s size, no doubt a huge factor, a master at getting up to block shots. And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle. And two shots coming up. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. Got to get it. Let’s get it. Get it. He’s off on the first. Big rebound. Big rebound. Let’s get it. Get it. Get it. Good on the second free throw. Listen, they’re still right in this thing. Missing that free throw though keeps this a two possession deficit. Thompson outside by Green. The three from Davis. Green with the rebound. It’s almost like he’s trying to make things hard on himself, you know? He’s just got to slow the game down. Trying to get some easy ones. Trent kicks the corner. Giannis inside. He’s started by Davis and two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the contact. Davis. And so he’s picked up his final foul and he will sit for the rest of this game. And guys, this is where their depth really comes into play. They they’ve got such talent at that position. They’d love to have him out there, but they won’t suffer much of a drop off. [Applause] [Applause] He drops the first one and that narrows the lead down to just three. [Applause] And a tough break is a second attempt at the line. No good. He gets them to within one possession, but that miss puts a lot of pressure on their defense. And here’s Washington outside. Drills it from outside. Washington’s got 13 points here in the second half alone. Bucks trail by six. There’s Porter with the three and the three ball is good. Absolutely essential that they come right back and answer with that three of their own. And this gets the crowd energized. Now here’s Thompson. Thompson is double. There’s Russell with a three. Milwaukee with the rebound. And Dumbo has got double digit rebounds now in the game. And the wide open shot from Green. Can’t tie it up as that one’s no good. They came close there to tying it up. Oh, he had it in his sights. He wanted it. That bucket would have been huge. I believe the Bears to Thompson. And he lobbs it up toward the rim. And here they come. And here is Trent outside. And oh, that was an enormous three-pointer. And that one sends the into a frenzy. I tell you, these guys have worked so hard together. Everyone pulling in the same direction. Beautiful to watch. And Jason Kid is called timeout. The magnitude at this juncture in the game clearly warranting a timeout. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] And with an update from the sidelines, let’s check in with David Aldry. Thanks, guys. Well, I got a chance to listen in to what Jason Kid was talking about with his players. Our coach told his guys, “It’s not over until it’s over.” He asked him to stay sharp out there and to keep fighting. If we lose this, it’s on us, he said. Back to you guys. All right, David. Thanks. Now, here is Russell. Thompson is doubled to the paint. Washington kicks to Thompson. Dallas again missing. And you don’t want to give up that kind of look too often. To the middle. Here’s Yiannis. The kick out to Porter. Turner with a screen for Porter to take the lead. It’s off. You had a foul to give there, but you’d rather not have it cost your team points. [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. Got to get it. Let’s get it. Get it. He knocks down the clutch free throw. And so he drops them both. It’s a two-point ball game. Yeah, free throws put them in an excellent position to win this thing. Now it’s all in the hands of the deep. And we’ve got a timeout called by Jason Kidd and he knows there’s no room for mistakes and wants everyone on the same page in terms of strategy here. Any thoughts? And they’ve got plenty of time to get a basket. Well, they’ve got to be aggressive, guys, because the defense doesn’t want to foul here. Thompson for the triple. He’s off from three. So, a close game sees Milwaukee taking this one. What a show they put on here at home tonight. I mean, these are those games that feel so great to win and and really, it’s like a knife in the gut to lose. You You got to love being on edge of your seat and just wondering what’s going to happen. How is this thing going to play out? And that’ll do it folks for Doris Burke, David Aldridge, Greg Anthony, and the rest of our terrific 2K Sports crew. This is Kevin Harland saying thanks for watching. And as we leave you, let’s take a look at our player of the game, Giannis onto the Kumbbo.
