We got the mailbag show. We’re going to talk a little Nick Knicks preseason schedule leaking by the date. So, we’ll talk get into that. Rick Patino stirring the pot a little bit. Generated a little bit of a healthy debate amongst basketball knowowers. So, action-packed show, man. Let’s get right into it, man. All right. How you feeling, man? What’s good, man? I’m good, man. I’m chilling. You know, it’s the summer. It’s, as you mentioned, it’s dog days. We got very little news to be working with, so we’re we’re searching around here. You know, we’re searching for content. But that’s what we do, man. We we we create something out of nothing. But, uh, before we start the show, congratulations to you. An engaged man, man. Happy that you went over to Croatia. You and the Knicks chick now. Yeah. Engaged. Absolutely. Nicknix family. Uh, salutes to you, my guy. How you feeling? Appreciate it. Well, I appreciate the fact that uh you know, you’re acting like you just found out even though you you pretty much knew the day that it happened. But I I appreciate you acting surprised. But no, man, definitely appreciate it. Uh I’ll we’ll we’ll get to the trip and and the theatrics that uh that that came with it, you know, at the end of the show, but um yeah. No, I appreciate it, man. Definitely appreciate. I feel like I haven’t seen you since Vegas, bro. Yeah, it’s been that long. I have not seen you since since Vegas. Yeah. Well, it’s good to be back with you, man. Well, you know, you you you are Mr. Worldwide at this point. You go to Vegas, you teach some classes, you know, you go see Nas, you go see the Backstreet Boys, then next thing you know, you’re flying out to Croatia, and then next thing you know, you know, you’re engaged. And so, hey man, you got a busy, jam-packed life to keep up with. That’s what the summer’s for, man. When you dedicate your life to the New York Knicks and Knicks Nation, man, you got to catch up during during the offseason during the summertime, man. So you know there there that is but I see you every single day so you know like once the regular season comes so it’s like I see sometimes I see you more than my wife and she’s like what the hell’s going on here? Yeah that that’s correct man. All right so anyway man getting into uh the the nick of things preseason schedule man couple of weeks couple of dates out so far. Um, the Knicks will tip off the preseason with two games against the Philadelphia 76ers October 2nd, October 4th in Abu Dhabi, the NBA Abu Dhabi games. So, the Knicks will be out there. Um, then they will return home. They’ll take on Anthony Edwards Julius coming back home. Dante against the Timberwolves. Second year in a row where they face the Timberwolves in the in the preseason. That’ll be October 9th at MSG. and then they will have uh the Wizards at MSG on October 13th. Now, I’m not sure if this is the complete schedule. These are just the dates that we know based on their opponents leaking their schedules and also the the Abu Dhabi games. Those dates had been established for quite some time. So, you know, some teams like for example like the Timberwolves have six dates already planned and the Wizards only have three. So, I’m not sure if this is the full schedule, but this is what we know so far. Your thoughts? The Abu Dhabi, I mean, that’s a sponsor for the Knicks, so not surprised that they’ll be out there facing the Sixers, and that should be good, man. I mean, it’s it’s the effort to make it a more not not necessarily saying it’s not a global sport, to make it more of a global sport. Right. So, they did this last year. I forget where they went last year. Was it was it Abu Dhabi that they did last year, too? Yeah, it was. Right. So, they’re trying to, you know, expand the NBA landscape, trying to garner more attention. So, it’s cool that the Knicks, especially, like I said, that’s their sponsor for last season. I believe it’s the upcoming season as well, that they get to go out there and go be the team representing this season uh with the Philadelphia 76ers. And I don’t know if Joel Embiid will be able to make it. So, we’ll see what happens, though. Yeah. And it’s it’s so funny that especially when the Sixers are concerned, you’re starting to hear the rumblings that the whole Embiid thing is starting to fall apart again. And I’m not surprised with that just on the strength that when he when they shut him down, you know, the whole thing last year was a circus. It was clear that they had to shut him down, that he wasn’t going to last. Then you heard rumblings that like he had he might have to have a procedure where they take a piece of his graph his hip and do this. And that sounds like a really really terrible project. But now you’re starting to hear the leaks that he’s not going to be ready for camp and all of that. So clearly he’s not going to be playing in this game. But on the Abu Dhabi front, as you said, this is part of a multi-year agreement between the NBA and Abu Dhabi, the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi making significant investments in sports and bringing the NBA over there. Um, so that deal was signed in 2021 and that’s why you’re seeing these preseason games there. And so the NBA is kind of making that shift from China. Remember, China was the hot bed. Mhm. Then things started getting sour. You had the Daryl my thing. His support of Hong Kong and China start pulling out. Sponsors start pulling out. And then so now they’re they’re they’re shifting their sights to Abu Dhabi. Now where the Knicks are concerned is like you said the patch sponsorship is with Experience Abu Dhabi who is the marketing wing of the department of culture and tourism. So that the head of that and his his name is uh his name is is I have it here Muhammad Khalifa al-Mubarik big-time NBA fan afficionado and the head of the department of culture and tourism. So I’m sure he helped broker this deal with the Knicks. Now this is a multi-year deal with the patch. Remember in previous years they had the sphere last two seasons ago. Season prior to that they had Squarespace. Mhm. So, this is a multi-year deal now now with Experience Abu Dhabi. And then on top of that, they’re building another sphere in Abu Dhabi. So, there’s a big relationship going on here between the New York Knicks and Abu Dhabi. So, there it is. That’s where you get the two precinct preseason games against the Sixers here. And what business relationship doesn’t have? I mean, what business doesn’t have relationships and connections like that, right? So, you talk about the sphere, the Knicks sponsorship, there’s a lot going on there. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get, as long as the Knicks are, you know, in the relevancy that they are, I would not be surprised if they constantly have them over there just based on the collaboration that they have right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another year, do it again next year, right? And you bring it over another team. And my question is, cuz I know they have Philly going out there right now, are you going to try to make even more entertaining for them during the preseason, right? I mean, Sixers, we all know how that ended, right? Just u talk about a complete collapse of what a team and a franchise is and what their expectations are. But do you bring a team like, let’s say the Pacers were healthy, do you do you match them up during a preseason game just to make it more entertaining? you bring a team from the West, maybe you say, “Hey, instead of the Sixers, do we bring out the Houston Rockets? Get some 94 95 battle going on there and and say, “Hey, they got Kevin Durant. They got a young squad. Let’s see if this can uh garner some attention.” So there, I think there’s more ways to build upon the relationship they have right now. But for the NBA, it’s, you know, how much do you want to invest in the preseason, especially with with your players and how long it is? We already have that conversation that 82 game regular season is too long. Do you try to spice up the preseason a little bit? Yeah. Or do you even say do we try to make even more interesting during the regular season? I mean this game that’s that’s the kind of the exper that’s the experiment they’re doing right now. Do you say hey maybe even for a play in tournament game that might be a little old too tough but you know just you know halfbaked ideas. You say let’s try to figure something out like that. Maybe you have the tournament out there. It could certainly evolve in that way. Remember, um, Emirates is sponsored the NBA Cup. Remember, that’s a title. That’s a presenting sponsor now. That’s the goal sponsor. So, you could certainly see the relationship evolve from here. But, as it relates to the Knicks, uh, that that’s how it’s looking, man. So, you got those two dates against Philly. You got home against Randall Edwards, Steven, and the boys, and then uh and then the uh the Wizards. So, we’ll see if they have more games on tap, but that’s what we know so far. Suits everybody in the chat once again. Al, let’s salute some of our franchise channel members in the the chat. Okay, next segment. Al, Rick Patino, the former coach of the New York Knicks, New York, resurrecting St. John’s. This is our guy right here. Uh stirred the pot a little bit. Maybe he didn’t mean to, but his sound bite on the state of the point guard certainly generated some controversy, especially as he evoked Jaylen Brunson’s name. So, let’s play the Patino sound bite and then I want to get your reaction to it on the other side. Okay, here was Coach Patino at St. John’s practice on the state of the of the point guard. Here we go. There are no point guards anymore. Hang on. Hang on. Let me Let me get my volume. Let me make sure we get the volume right. Okay. Let me Let’s make sure we get the volume right. Okay, here we go. Here’s Rick. There are no point guards anymore. I mean, if you find it, you’ll probably describe him as a guy who can’t shoot. What’s What’s Jay Bump? He’s a combo scoring guy. I don’t think he’s looking for the assists. I think he’s looking to score. And thank God he is. So, um, and whether it’s whether it’s the champion, who’s the point guard of the Cund said this to the team, who’s the point guard of the Knicks, the Lakers, the Celtics, the uh the uh champ world champions. Um, the point guard is is totally done in basketball. The days of John Stockton are long gone. There are no more point guards. Chris Paul’s probably the last one. Um, so you you got to play with everybody handling the basketball. Five out and uh just create good movement. All right, out. That was coach Patino said the uh the point guard is all but gone. Your thoughts? He’s not wrong, but I think it’s I think there’s a little bit more to that. I think the point guard position has evolved. But I think if you’re say if you’re going to go with what he’s belieing as the traditional John Stockton, Jason Kidd, you know, guys who are going to look to facilitate first before they start scoring. Yeah, that’s that’s gone. We’re not really going to see a lot of that. I mean, he talks about Chris Balls being the last one. I would say Tyres Hallebertton is more like that. He’s more the traditional point guard. I think he forgot him, but those are really the only two guys and maybe outside of Taius Jones, right? But he’s a backup. But if he’s talking about starting caliber point guards in the NBA, I mean, most of them are going to be scoring first. And that’s where I would say that’s where the evolution of the point guard position has changed where guys like when you think about guys like Steve Nash who, yes, they facilitate, but they were also heavily involved in scoring. That’s kind of where the NBA was on pace at the beginning of the 2000s, right? you’re starting to get guys who did a lot more scoring while that could facilitate like Jaylen Brunson like he averaged over seven assists this season this past season. Obviously more of a scoring guard, but I just think that’s the the way that the NBA has evolved now because they want the guy who’s your initiator to be able to create and garner that attention and then find everybody else as the game wears on. But to Patino’s point, he’s not off base. I mean, you’re you’re we talk about even connectors today, right? Guys who not are necessarily not scorers and then somebody like Allonzo Ball like is he a is he the point guard like when he was out in Chicago? Not like yes and no. It’s like who’s your lead scoreer? How do you fit in? I mean, let’s think about how he’s going to fit in in Cleveland, right? If he’s slotted right next to Darius Garland. Garland’s your point guard. He looks to score first, but if you have Lon out there, he’s the connector and he can facilitate. But that’s just the the way the NBA has changed, man. Even when you think about Steph Curry out in the Warriors, it’s the whole point of having Shawn Livingston out there is to allow Steph to go score and then Livingston could set up everybody else. So, the game has evolved and that’s where I agree with, you know, it’s it’s five out spacing and everybody’s has to be able to manage the rock and and start the offense. Yeah, I I’m with you in in that it’s more of an evolution, not necessarily an extinction because there are players who fit that mold as a pass force point guard and and as Patino said they probably can’t shoot even look at Hallebertton, right? But but then hey, even a Trey Young to a certain extent, right? Like you know, the Hawks don’t necessarily have, you know, multiple multiple ball handlers to play because Trey Young is still up there in assists every year with with the league whether you like him or not. But then if you think about the two best teams that made it to the finals in terms of the Pacers and the Thunder, one of the things that made them elite was their ability to have multiple guys playmaking. Yes, Shay’s the MVP and he certainly, you know, is the straw that stirs the drink, but there was times where the Thunder they run an offense through JDub when Shay’s on the bench. Caruso can playmake. Iheart is out there playmaking. So they had number of ways to pick your part. The Pacers, yes, it’s Hallebertton, but Nem Hard can playmake. Takum can playmake like McConnell’s off the bench killing you. So they had so many different ways to slice and dice you up. Think about the Nuggets running through Joic the Golden State Warriors. Draymond is technically the point guard in terms of how they generate their offense and Steph playing off of that. So I think he he certainly is right in that regard. Um when it comes to Cap, hey look, he had what is it? Career high in assists this year, right? With seven assists. So even though yes he is a combo score first point guard and as Patino said we’re lucky to have he still utilizes that gravity to make plays for for others. So, and you can make that argument that with the Knicks, we didn’t have enough playmakers, right? And guards, right? We didn’t have a nard like Melo said, you know, to really take us over the top. So, I I think it’s just the the schemes, the type of versatility that teams are deploying right now that is kind of shifting the playmaking onus from just one person to multiple people. Do you ever think like because sometimes I look at the NBA as as fads, right? Like a clothing style like fads. Like something comes back in vogue and you’re like, “Oh, wow. Let’s do this again.” Do you think we’ll ever see that pass first point guard or is this just what we’re going to have where it’s going to be constantly like, you know, positionless basketball as everyone wants to talk about. I I think it’s here, man. It’s certainly here. And it doesn’t mean that, you know, we’re never going to see a guy like that again, but the focus because we’re in such an offensive oriented league now, you have to be able to be a scoring threat. And and that’s why where people’s like, you know, a lot of people when we put this out there on Instagram and some people in the chat right now saying, well, Kohic, Kolic, Kolic, well, part of the reason why Kohlick one wasn’t necessarily drafted higher and two is not really getting the playing time right now is because his offense is limited as a scoring threat, right? Like if he had that, he’d be a bonafide backup point guard. And hey, you could even make a case to play alongside Brunson at times. But because his offense is not there yet, it’s hard to make a case for set minutes significant minutes for him on a nightly basis. You got you have you’ve got to be a scoring threat out there. Need to. And that’s just kind of what I mean, let’s look at it this way, too. Like remember when it was all about three and D players? All you had to do is just catch and shoot and play defense, right? That has completely changed. Now to 3 and D isn’t really utilized that much. You’re just a wing. Now the term is wing. Can you dribble? Can you handle the rock? Can you initiate the offense? Can you shoot? Can you play defense? It’s why they went out for Macau Bridges because they could believe he could do those things, right? So the game has is constantly evolving and so terms are it’s just so funny because you can use this term like what is a point guard? was a traditional even the traditional center is no longer there. Like what is it? Like how many times you see someone, you know, sitting up a post, someone in the post. How many times you see anybody even really facing up from the post, right, as a center or power forward and really attacking? The game has just evolved where it’s a lot of driving, a lot of threes, some mid, you get mid-range jumpers in there, not some you still get a good amount of mid-range jumpers. That makes sense. But what we saw at the late 90s, early 2000s, even like the 2010s, like you’re not seeing anyone like you’re not going to find someone going out there like Melo, posting somebody out then, you know, then facing them up and then really attacking the rim from that that like 15 feet out. It’s the game just constantly changes, man. So, as much as, you know, some people be upset with Patino’s comments saying that there’s no point guards or anything like that, I I still think it’s evolving and the game’s constantly evolving. Yeah. And so hopefully where St. John’s is concerned, they can actually find those type of players because, bro, God knows, man, from every time St. John’s goes to the dance, they always get exposed for lack of talent on the offensive side. And and that’s what they’re missing. They always we always have the gritty. We always got defense. We always got toughness. We don’t have enough good playmaking and good shooting. And that’s where, you know, when they come up against the big boys in the dance, that’s where they fall short. But it’s going to be a lot of expectations for St. John’s this year. They’re going to be a top 10 team most likely. And hopefully they can um they can take the corner, turn the corner. So, shout out to uh to Coach Patino and the gang over there in Queens. Okay. Yeah, staying on the point guard topic, Hoops Hype. Our guys at Hoops Hype, shout out to our guy, Michael Scott, friend of the program. They dropped their top 15 point guards for next season in the NBA. Uh, number one, SGA, the MVP. Number two, Luca. Number three, the captain, Jaylen Brunson. Rounding out the top five, you got Kade at four, the Chef at five, and then um you have I’ll just read the rest of the list. Trey Young six, Harden seven, Jaw 8, Dearron Fox 9, Tyrese Maxi 10, Derek White 11, Darius Garland 12, Jamal Murray 13, LaMelo Ball 14, Josh Giddy 15. Uh let’s start with the cap. Any any issues with uh with cap there at uh number three in the top three? any issues? No, I’m not upset with him being third. I think the first two guys are are rightfully there. I mean, you could SGA MVP, just won a chip, you know, dynamic player. Uh Luca being number two, not upset with that either. Very curious to see how he performs this season considering he’s lost so much weight and he looks Yeah. you know, like in the best shape of his life. But I know the whole criticism with Luca is that doesn’t play defense, but still entering the league and just the way he’s able to, you know, just attack and for a guy who is not the most hyper athletic player, still gets to his spots is a scoring threat, uh, I think it makes sense, too. And then for Brunson, man, three, look, made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Guy averaged 7.3 assists this season. Think he averaged a little over 26 points. Guy is just a dynamic offensive threat. Uh solid playmaker. Gives you a lot, man. I I’m not upset with him being three. It tells you, look, to have somebody in the top three. Yeah, that’s fantastic. I’m good with Cap at three. I think that’s a rifle spot. Now, a lot of people were questioning saying, you know, Luca is not a point guard. I look at him as a point as a playmaking guard, as you know, all dominant playmaking guard. I don’t really look at him as anything else. I think Luca is good to be on that list. Mhm. You know what I’m saying? Now, now the chef, the chef is interesting, too. I think those are two interesting spots to have them at, but it’s like where you going to put him? You going to have a top 15 combo guard list? You know what I’m saying? Yeah. I mean, it’s the same thing with Steph. It’s like people say he’s not a point guard. Although, I would say go back to when they won the title. He had to do a lot of the work and a lot of the playmaking that first chip. Um, I don’t even care if they lost Kevin Love and Kyrie on the other side. the way that he was working and getting guys to their spots, he was looking like the point guard of that season. And so, look, this is this goes back to the conversation, what is a point guard, right? And it’s just evolved. And if they’re score first guys who think about passing second just because you want to guard the attention, utilize your gravity to just shape shift how the floor is set up, then so be it. That’s what the point guard is today. I’m a little curious as to how you put Steph below Kate Cunningham. I was just going to ask that’s that’s the that’s this is this is where it gets very interesting if we’re talking about list like how do you put him like I get it Kade’s first time in the postseason but once again this is talk about first time in the postseason over a guy who’s got not one not two but four titles won a finals MVP yeah like one of the best shooters we’ve ever seen in our lifetime. How is he number five a cade four? What are we doing here? But again it’s it’s it’s what are you valuing in this list? Right? If you’re valuing the scoring ability, and again, just based on where they are right now, not past, right? We’re talking about right now. Right now, if you’re valuing the scoring threat, the scoring gravity, the scoring ability, clearly you got to put Steph ahead of Cade, right? But have to But if you’re factoring in overall game, including playmaking strength, I think Kade is fine where he’s at. Yeah. And I see I see JJ in the chat saying this is for next season and JJ saying it’s correct. Don’t No, I I I’m sorry, man. I’m sorry. Even if it’s for next season and we’re talking about this, you got to give Steph the respect where it’s over. Kate only did look and Kade was fantastic against the Knicks, man. He was fantastic. I’m not taking that away from him. But I feel like even when you’re projecting for next season, you also got to look at what you did last season and the years prior to and the and the body of work and to put him just below a guy who, you know, it’s it’s like uh it’s like that meme for uh for Toy Story where you have Andy’s toys. It’s like we’re dropping Steph because we’re picking up Cade now. Like come on, man. Like give the man his respect. There’s some other questionable selections on this list. How about Maxi? Thank you. I’m putting Maxi7. I’m putting Maxi7. Thank you. And I know a lot of you guys hate Trey Young. I think Trey Young’s fine where he’s at. I’m putting Maxi right under him, though. Interesting. Yeah, you I’m putting Maxi up there. I’m putting Maxi over Fox. I’m putting Maxi over Morant. I’m put Maxi over Harden. Yeah, I agree with that. I’m put Maxi I agree with that. I thought Maxi was way too low on this list. Um and I get it. Look, he had first time in the playoffs was two seasons ago against the Knicks. It’s not his fault that the Sixers completely just like went south, but I would take him over I would project him to have a better season than Darren Fox because I don’t know what San Antonio is going to look like with the draft capital. Like you have Harper Harper out there, you know, you got Castle out there. There’s a lot at the guard position. I I don’t I just don’t know how that’s all going to work. John Morant is kind of falling off to me, man. Slightly. Yeah, I’d put I’d put Maxi over him. And then Harden, I get that Harden had a really good season with the Clippers. But if we’re also This is where I got to stay true to my word, though. This is where I got to stay true. I I would say if I’m going to say body of work and all this stuff that I got to leave Harden above Maxi. So, I’d put I’d put Maxi at eight. Okay. And leave Harden at seven just because the body of work, the scoring, the facilitating. I’ve seen Harden do it. Maxi only have one. So, I I’ll leave it at that. Yeah. Sed rhyme animal. Chuck the says Maxi’s John Wall with more control. I mean, what I mean, what do you want to do? Like, you know, Maxi’s out there. He He’s got nobody to play with. You got Embiid and Paul George, the walking injuries, right? The the walking body cast. He’s got to do everything himself. But I’m putting him up there over I’m putting him up there over Maxi asking for Tobias Harris to return like man we ran this man out of town. Might need it. Might need it. Uh who else? How about you know Jamal Murray’s very interesting. He’s very interesting because in the at moments he could really take off and then other moments he’s a dud. put him against if he could face the Lakers every single game, he’d be uh he’d be top. He’d be number two. He’s a problem. Yeah, go ahead. Finish. But that’s the thing, man. It’s like the injuries pushed him back and he’s just it’s too much of an up and down, man. It oscillates between good to like what do we should we keep Jamal Mur? Like what’s happening? So, I think he I think because of the inconsistency, he’s properly rated where he is, man. Okay. Okay. Um, do you like Derek Derek? Derek White at 11. Where do you put Derek White? Fave in the chat, fantast. Yeah. Controversy. I would take him over Jaw. Okay. I mean, dude, as somebody who who had him on his fancy basketball team and everybody and their grandma was giving me like the worst offers to get Derek White. So, someone offered me, who was it? Uh, someone offered me Zubac for Derek White. I’m like, “Oh, what what what are you?” Yeah. You know, this is a family show. There on drugs. Yep. Family show. Derek White is uh Derek White, in my opinion, I take him over Jaw just because once again, shooter, John Mar’s not a good shooter. Facilitator. I think the way Derek White processes the game is much quicker than what Jaw does. And like Jaw, it’s just he’s just lightning in a bottle, man. very electric when he plays, but there’s still more that you can get from him. And I know everyone’s going to look at the points. 23 points per game, you know, averages four boards, gets you seven assists. Derek White is averaging 16 point, like over 16 points and five assists while being like the third, fourth option. Yeah, it’s a good point. And very efficient. Very efficient. Very efficient. Very efficient. So, I would take him over I would take him over John Mor. Yeah, that’s that that’s actually fair. I I I uh I agree with you there, man. That That’s a good point by you. So, you’re putting Derek White around that eight. You’re putting him over Fox. You’re putting him over Fox. I think I would shuffle where I have Fox cuz Fox is still talented. Then I go Derek White and then Jago’s underneath. Okay. Okay. Just because Fox is still I’d still like Fox is still talented, man. Yeah. He’s improved as a three-point shooter. The facilitating the speed, like as much as I could say, you know, Derek White is hyper efficient, like Derek, uh Darren Fox is still very efficient player and does a lot gives you a lot more than what Jaw does. And I would say that because of his responsibility and what he does, that would just outweigh uh that would outweigh Derek White. Gamber in the chat is saying, “So everybody in the chat once again, hit the like button, hit the share button, subscribe to the channel.” Gamber in the chat is saying LaMelo is too low. I was getting to that. LaMeloHive said the disrespect is real. Are they disregarding the injury? Is where’s should LaMelo be on this list? LaMelo is very talented. I’m leaving him right where he is. Okay. Okay. I think look, very talented player, but you got to do something, man. You got to do something. numbers, all that’s great. Are you a winning player? Like when you step like when you’re out there and you’re trying to lead your team to the postseason, are you going to be there? Are you going to actually do everything in your par power to take them there? And you can say, hey, the team has been, you know, has had to deal with injuries. Uh we know what Miles Bridges uh being suspended and being gone. We know that until he had until he returned this season. Mhm. You’re talking about Brandon Miller who’s a young player, upcoming player, still trying to get his footing in the league. And so you could say, “Hey, you know, what is he actually working with around here, but I still think if you’re that talented, if you’re getting the hype that he gets, you got to be able to lead the team, man. And I think that is why I leave him. You know, 25 and seven, still very good, very good numbers by LaMelo. But I think when if you look at everybody on this list, their impact on winning shows top to bottom. Mhm. You know what I mean? Their impact on their team and their team’s winning shows. And with LaMelo, we just have not seen that yet. Yeah. Support and cast certainly factors into it. But even even like a Trey Young, man, like Hawks are still scrapping. You know, no matter who they have, no matter who’s injured, he still has them fighting. LaMelo, you can’t really make that case. Not really. You can’t you can’t make that case. So, what do you guys think? Would you replace him over? Would you So, I mean, Giddy being 15 is where it’s like, okay, that was that was a little interesting. That was interesting. And uh you know, I mean, I know there’s like 26 players on it, but would you leave would you put Giddy above LaMelo or you leave LaMelo right where he is? No, I still I still think you got to factor in some sort of talent as well and and Yeah, you still got to factor in some sort of talent. All right. Um people asking where Spider in the Obviously I they’re going to put Spider in the two guard spot. You can’t have Spider and Garland in there, right? You gota Yeah. And I’d say like Donovan’s that’s He’s truly a scoring guard, right? He’s truly a scoring guard. That’s right. All right. Even by today’s standards of like how you define point guard, he’s still a scoring guard. Yeah. True. True indeed. True indeed, man. All right, salute to everybody in the chat. Good discussion, good conversation. Friday, uh, salute, man. One o’clock. Salute to everybody on the uh the hashtag grind. What was saying? Well, Mel’s got Cheeto feet. Oh, man. Just speaking of speaking of uh, you know, winning. Oh, you know. Oh. Oh, it’s still there. It’s It’s still there. It’s still there. The Knicks Twitter Championship and MVP trophy. Wow. It It’s still with us. It’s glowing. It is. Yeah, it is. What did you do? Did you do anything to it, man? I mean, you’re gone for a while. Did you come back, dust it off? Just a little armor all, you know, just a little, you know what I mean? Just a little buffer it up. I I got it right here. I got the rag, you know, the little little polish joint. You know what I mean? Some sometimes, you know, polish it up with the uh for the fans by the fans rally towel, you know, whatever is handy. It’s still there though. It’s still there. It’s the MVP and and and the championship trophy side by side. side by side. It’s Look at the glow in the light, man. It’s beautiful. Yeah. Did you see uh Did you see Jimmy? Jimmy has been out there getting some work, man. The road to the repeat, the road to to to to the second to the back to back. Our guys are putting in work. Absolutely, man. Him, JD, they’ve been doing the morning runs. Look at Jimmy’s leading the charge. He’s throwing out He’s throwing out tweets. He’s He’s saying, “Hey, if you want to come hoop with me and get right, I’m right here, man.” And Jimmy’s knocking down. JD’s knocking him down. Yeah. J. Uh, here I’m I’m showing Jimmy’s Jimmy’s tape. Let’s put Jimmy’s tape up here. Here’s here’s our guy Jimmy. Um, hey man, he he’s a deadly corner shooter, Al. So, you know, next year when we get that chemistry, you know, me and you were talking and and and I was miked up. That might come out in in the uh in the final production. I mean, you were talking about, you know, we got to drive and kick. We were we were sk strategizing on the court there. But that’s our guy. Hand down, man down. If you leave him in the corner, and we’re gonna talk to this guy next. We’re gonna warn this guy ahead of time. He’s calling up calling up on the Discord. If you leave him in the corner, he will make you pay. You know who would love him from the corner? Yeah. The old coach, Tom Tudo. You’re like, “Oh, a corner shooter. Holy cow.” That That’s our That’s our corner shooter. Okay. So, I got to say one thing though, CP. Yep. Shout out to my guy Mark, cuz I was I was hooping uh at BU Boston University two weeks ago. Okay. I’m just sitting down just, you know, my me and my team, we ran the court. We went seven and two. So, we we were doing work getting ready to walk out, go get something to eat from the from the place across the street. Okay. Shout out to my guy Mark. He’s like comes up to he’s like, “Yo, you Alex from KV?” I was like, “Yes, sir. That I am.” He’s like, “I tune in to UNC CP every single night.” Wow. So, he’s repping out here, man. He just graduated from BEu. So, congratulations to you, Mark. Okay. Still out here. He had told me that, you know, in his dorm, man. And he had a big RJ poster, you know, just hanging. So, as you were getting your work in, you ran into a KFTV fan. That’s right. Who was there showing love? That’s right. How about that? Okay. All right. We’re still waiting for your highlight tape from the offseason, man. We’re still waiting for your highlight tape, bro. Look, man. I’m just Look, I don’t like to share a lot of information. What I don’t want people to game plan, man. Okay. Don’t I don’t like that. Okay. Well, you know, I as I showed um you know, I I was out at uh King’s Landing, aka Croatia, uh getting some shots up myself, man. I was out on the court. Me and the Knicks Chick were out there getting some shots up. You know what I’m saying? So, I threw my highlight tape out there. Now, I as I told you guys, I will not be participating in five on five competitive basketball until the next tournament. I’m on I’m a dayto-day on the injury report. I’m dayto day, okay? I’m just getting my wheels back from under me. You know what I mean? Wheels back on me. I’m just getting my wheels back. So, for now, I’m just, you know, light shot light shots up here and there. You know what I mean? Nice to see that you’re part of like the now true NBA conglomerate, like the professional players that, you know, go over to Spain or or to Greece and go and go hoop. Now, you’ve gotten to that level. See if he’s taken offseason training to a whole other height. That’s right. You know, they’re out in Marbella and stuff like that. You know, the workout videos. We’re we’re doing that now, man. Look at this, man. Every everyone Yeah. So fat. Yo, Sean started a movement, man. Shout out to Sean. He did. Shout out to Now, now everyone’s posting uh highlights of everyone playing basketball now. Look, a lot of attention. We see people asking to be part of the team, you know, for next year to be part of Nick’s Twitter today. Look, they’ve expanded to two other teams. Dan has a team for representing the West Coast. Dan from New Jersey sent us his tape, so we’ll be reviewing that tape. You know, I was out of Kings Land and practicing my free throws and whatnot, man. So, you know, uh let’s get to the phones, man. Triple M in the building. He is KF KFTV fam, but uh Nick’s Twitter tournament, he is an adversary, you know. He did he did uh he he did switch sides up on us, but it’s all right, you know. Hey, man, we still remember that uh hit your head on JD. What’s going on? The first technical foul in Nick’s Twitter tournament history. First one. Yeah, TripleM. TripleM coming back after a couple, you know, I was boycotting the show. I was still showing love on Instagram, Twitter, all social platform, but I was boycotting calling in because there was a lot of questionable calls going away TripleM technical foul on the first play of the of the game. Are you kidding me? And I was getting hammered down there and questionable players. Shout out to Jimmy. That’s my guy now. Shout out to Brandon G. That’s my guy now. But who are these guys? I never even seen them guys and I’m a day one. Whatever. We gonna let that go. You know, Alex bought his kid. I’m here showing love. CP got his son. my son. They both getting work on the court showing up. That was cool, man. Yeah, that was cool, man. I was getting buttered up out of the KMTV family, you know. I was sad. I’m like, why I’m not on this side? Rocking to sleep. I’m just rocking to sleep. Yeah, you guys rock me to sleep, man. But yo, shout out to UCP, man. Congratulation, pick up. I cannot wait to be in the building for the event at Madison Square Garden. You I already know. I already I extended my own invite, you know. I already DMing this chick and all that. You know, we good. We good on this side. Doubt. No doubt, man. Yeah. But I want to do a dog day of the summer complaint. You know, there’s nothing going on. So, you know, Nick fans, we got to complain about something. And I’m going to complain about the coaching surgery. I broke the news. I broke the news here that Fifth Row Mo will come back. I told you he always walks his dogs 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. And I’m there. I’m there. You know, I’m doing my push-ups now in the morning early. And I see Fifth Row Mo and I’m like, bro, what is going on with the coaching set? He’s not even talking to me, you know? So, what are we doing with the coaching search? Because I feel like we have to develop our young players right now. So, are we using the G-League strictly for development? Because when Coach Tis was here, you know, we had all these development guys, Johnny Bryan, Mike Woodson, you know, Kenny Payne, we bought in the whole squad. And now with this new CBA, I I think and I think you guys agree with me, development is important, but who are we got that’s developing these guys? You know, I don’t even know half the coaching staff and half the coaching staff is coming back. It’s already August, fellas. Come on. Let’s lock in. Dog Day of the Summer came from TripleM. What are we doing with the coaching search? There. There we go. Shout out to TripleM, man. Stay up. Have a great weekend. Always good to hear from you. And what do you guys think in the chat, man? What do you guys think about TripleM’s uh question here? And it’s a good segue, Al, into the mailbag episode of segment of the show because that was a question that was shared by Gary DB on Twitter saying any concerns about, you know, the the assistant coaches that are passing on uh Mike Brown’s staff recently. Mike Weinar from the Pacers staff declined. Pablo Pion, our guy Pablo, also declined. So, what do you think, Al? Are you concerned? Uh, you know, I’m not fully concerned about it. And, uh, shout out to people. I’ve had people who reached out via Twitter, too. Shout out to Cara, who who’s very active in in Nick’s Twitter world. She’s she’s asked and she’s also concerned as well. But, I’m not really concerned. I think this is just part of the search, man. It’s like when you It’s even getting to the conclusion of Mike Brown will be the head coach, right? And you were talking about it with uh, Trilogy, James Edwards III, you know, I talked about it with James Hame Ham. It’s just kind of the process where the Knicks were where they went too far in the playoffs to get their head coaching start to get all the guys that they wanted. You know, maybe we do get a Triano as the associate head coach if the Knicks were knocked out sooner, but I’m not too worried um at this point. Like, are they still looking for people? Yes. Uh you know, you see Bondi saying maybe you have Rick Brunson being the associate head coach yet again. Um but I’m not worried, man. I think they’re going to find somebody. And I think the difficulty in the NBA is that look, these guys get paid a lot of money and they want to stay comfortable. And I think they don’t necessarily need to move. It’s not like they need to leave unless it’s truly a promotion for them. So maybe if you go deeper on through the bench, right, for an oppo an opposing team and you say, “Hey, you’ll become the associate head coach.” I could see them being intrigued by that. But I I I just say I just think it’s going to be more of like we’ll wait and see, man. see what happens. Um, and who knows, if you even do an internal hire, let’s say if it is Rick Brunson, I would expect that they went through their due diligence there and say, you know what, this guy has the game plan. We can see a little bit more of it. It’s not Tibs, it’s Mike Brown. Let’s see what they can really create there. And you never know, man. I mean, the the reality is we don’t really know a lot about being an associate head coach. Yeah. Yeah. And we don’t really know who’s qualified or not. These are not this is not a conversation that most people have unless you’re in that part of the world. So unless you got some news to drop to me, I’m not too worried about it. But this is the one thing I will say before I let you go. It’s it’s a tough it this is this is a pressure cooker situation as you always say and it’s more so now than it is than it was last year. Yeah. Just because the expectations, right? If you join the Knicks now as an associate head coach, the expectation is, can you take this team to the NBA finals? Are you ready to go as soon as you walk through that door? Because that’s what there’s not going to be a little bit of time to like, all right, well, everyone will get their bearings. Everyone’s going to be, you know, we’ll be we’ll work again year two through we got some time to work this thing out and to really strategize. You have to start, you have to hit the ground running at this point. And so I think when you’re also looking to make this move unless somebody’s very eager and has thoughts ready to go, I think other guys uh they like like a Pablo Prejion. It’s like why do I want to go put myself in that situation where I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next two years, right? Whereas you’re with Chris Finch out in Minnesota, there’s continued success. You made a massive trade. You still got back to the Western Conference Finals. You’re given a little bit of a longer leash over there to work, tinker, and do stuff. Yeah, it’s it’s tricky. Sound worried over there. Am I worried? Not yet. Uh but it’s clear that they want somebody to organize the offense. That was clear from the pursuit of James Verago. that was clear in their pursuit of of the guy like a Mike Ween are now and I got landscapers in the background. My fault. I don’t I don’t have the uh the audio masker um on right now, but we’ll we’ll get through it. So now, according to reports, Chris Gent, who’s who’s currently with the Hornets, he’s in their sights. We’ll see what happens with him and where they go from there. you had a great conversation with uh with James Ham, Sacramento Kings insider, who talked about the challenge in them extending the coaching search was that guys like Jay Triano, who Mike Brown had on his staff and who he liked, went over with Jason Kidd, who the Knicks wanted as as their head coach. So, like James said, you lost out on guys. And also Trilogy had a great point in that there weren’t that many guys out there to go get in terms of head coaches and entire staffs getting fired. Like remember when Mike Malone got fired, it wasn’t like a David Adam was available. He was next up. So it’s it’s hard to say like how many guys from that Nuggets team bench were released. How many guys when Taylor Jenkins got fired from the Memphis Grizzlies were let go when they just moved up their uh their assistant coach Isalo was was moved up. Now the other guy was was let go but you know based on the the friction that happened with his system I’m not so sure that he was a guy in demand and also it’s clear that they’re targeting guys for the most part who had a who had relationships with Mike Brown in the past. The Pablo thing as Ian Begley reported was that it was more of a family decision. And when you think about family decision, it’s like you’re right. Like why would you want to uproot your family to bring them into this pressure cooker where it’s not even guaranteed that you’re going to be here next year, right? You just don’t know. Like if this thing completely just craters, there could be full cell changes. So, I think it’s that that instability factor is a factor there. And hey, maybe guys are just happy where they’re at, you know, like this guy Mike Weiner with the Pacers. Like, maybe they they are just content with where they are. And so, it’s it is a challenge though. Definitely a challenge, bro. And if you look at the situation with the Pacers, right? Like, what’s the expectation for this year? You’re you got even more you got another year, if you think about you got another year of job security just because you don’t have Hal Burton. you just went to the NBA finals. We all know that we have one could say, right? Even though you there’s two sides of the coin, right? You could say, look, the Thunder were going to win. They had the more talented team. They had the MVP on their side. There’s also that argument where what if Hallebertton was healthy? Could we made a push? Could we have won? And so, why leave something like that where you could say, all right, we’re going to have the year off, no Halle Burton, come back and we could do it again and see what happens that next year. And we’re we know at least we made it to the ECF the year prior. We just made it to the NBA finals. We have a really good team. You know, sal the salaries over there, the salary cap for them is not crazy enough where it’s like you’ll get the Knicks that’s going to be pushing the Second Apron. And so there’s stuff that you can actually work with out in Indiana. So, this is this this is other stuff that you’re thinking about when you’re making a career decision in the NBA and you’re going to a situation like New York that you have to be ready day one to fight for your life. And that’s really what it is. Like look, it’s even for Mike Brown, right? Like what he got, like four years with the Knicks. I don’t even know if he’s going to make it four years, man. We have no idea. We don’t know if this thing he We’re talking about how the East is decimated right now. The expectation, you know, while you were out is that people are thinking we got to go to the NBA finals this year. Paces are are are not doing anything this year without Halle Burn. Tatum’s out for the year. Why not us? The Cavs. Why are the Cavs worrying you? This team is showing every single year they’re a second round exit with all the talent that they got. And so, why can’t it be the Knicks? And then if you’re looking further down, it’s like, do you believe that KP is gonna help lift Atlanta to that next level or do you believe that just getting Desmond Bane for the Magic, is it going to take it now catapult them up to the top four? Like, who knows? Milwaukee looks like looks like ish right now. Yeah. Who’s their point guard? No, you’re right. So, the the pressure for New York, if you’re making that decision, you have to be you have to know what you’re walking into. And I think a lot of people are evaluating that too and saying, “Do I want to make that choice right now?” And shout out to BLW franchise channel member sent a super chat. You say, “No more development. It’s win now.” But yes, he is right. However, as I stated a while back when when they were making their coaching search, they are focusing on player development as well. And you can walk and chew gum at the same time. they could do. They can compete now, but also try to develop and try to find some diamonds in the rough because of the way that the CBA is. And that will require you to go deeper into benches, prioritize depth, prioritize versatility. So there are while I don’t know every single name that is running the G-League and and on the staff like a lot of the guys that were there at summer league I can tell you that the franchise is focused on player development and continuation stability continuity rather and stability not just with this current roster but but but beyond. So we’ll just have to uh wait and see. you know, training camp will start in the next month or so and and we’ll see who who the name is that will be running uh the Knicks offense. But you see CP, it’s like it’s that and shout out to BLB BLU uh for being a franchise gentleman, bro. It’s it’s stuff like that as a fan base that we need to win now, right? That’s the fan base. Yeah. Yeah. The statement from the front office saying our sole focus is on winning a championship that you’re see all the signs are there. Yeah. You know, so it just goes back to my point. But then also, shout out to Chuck D in the chat. Throw a hashtag PE in here. He has a really good super chat. Shout out to you for the $10 super chat. Says also the assistant coach is back is the back is back plan. If the head coach is a disaster, who would be the replacement? It was the scenario with uh Don Nelson after Pat Riley left. Van Gundy brought the system back. ECF 51 is a tattoo. That’s a good point. That that is a good point. And look at look at the other teams that have moved forward. Doug Christie moved up for Mike Brown. You know, David Adam moved up for Mike Malone. Is Salah moved up for for um for Taylor Jenkins. So, it’s a good point. That that is a good point. So, let’s give him some more time and see. But valid concern in the dog days from our guy TripleM. Switch. Everybody in the chat once again. Hit that like button, hit the share button, subscribe to the channel. CB the franchise. Alaros on the other side. We’re going to get through the rest of the mailbag segment. Uh we do have the uh Against All Odds. This was last year’s playoff edition. Against all odds, man, with the with the uh KFTV embroidery on the side. That’s a nice one. And uh New York versus the World. You know, this one was a 2024 playoff edition, but it was in such high demand that we just kept it in the rotation. Man, it’s something that we can live by. Words to live by. And this is another one, man. We just had a restock of these. So, these are fresh in rotation if you guys want to get yours now. But one of these out is going to go to a loyal loyal franchise channel member at the end of today’s show. Okay, so let’s get through the rest of the questions. Shout out to TripleM once again. And um here’s another one. And this is by our friend, not just Nicks. Does a great job over there at the Coney Island Amphitheater. um says, “Will Deuce McBride take the next step forward to being a complete point guard or will he continue to look for his shot before the pass? Combine his game with Kohic? That would be the next step for him.” So, what do you think, Al? Is Duce ready to take the next step as a point guard? No, I don’t see it. Okay. um he would have to really improve as a driver and he still does a lot of work to get to the mid-range first. He’s more he’s willing to shoot the three. Um occasionally he can drive, but in in today’s NBA you really have to be able to drive and kick and we just haven’t seen a lot of that from Deuce. He could certainly surprise. I mean, look, you talk to him in Vegas and he’s looking to be the complete player and you know, what NBA player wouldn’t say that that they want to be the complete and be the best to their ability, right? But we’ve watched enough to see that playing the point guard one is not an easy position. In today’s NBA, you got to be a legitimate scoring threat. And part of being that legitimate scoring threat is being able to get downhill. And so until he can actually improve getting downhill to the point where it it’s not necessarily he has to have the highest conversion rate around the rim, but where he can do that and find guys, I just don’t see that happening just yet. Yeah, I’m with you in in that. I I see this thing being a by committee situation where that second unit you will have Deuce will be set up to make plays. Hart, I think Hart will have if he’s running with that second unit, Hart will be there to make plays. if they’re running through cat, cat could be the guy who you run the offense through Clarkson. So, I think it’ll be a by committee situation depending on the system and the and the how Mike Brown deploys the rotation, but I don’t expect more playmaking or an increase in playmaking opportunities for Deuce. I think his game is set up right now to be a scoring threat. That is where his strength lies as a offball scoring threat. And that’s where I think the Knicks need to tap into with him. He’s coming off the bench. You want efficiency. And so, look, he’s had moments where when he’s out there, when Brunson got hurt and Deuce is out there, whether as a starter or even as a reserve, where yeah, he has been capable of of playing alongside other guards and and play making, but his primary strength is as an offball scorer. And that’s what the Knicks need to tap into, you know, setting him up, getting setting screens for him, getting him some wideopen threes, getting him out in transition. so he can knock down those open looks. I think that’s where you want to see Deuce at his best because it’s not like he’s going to be playing. I don’t think they’re going to put him in there as a starter, but um you know, for his limited minutes, that that’s where you want to see him playing at his best. Play to his strengths. Yeah. And that’s his strength, right? And I think that’s the thing when you look at team building, it’s what does deuce bring that he’s really good at and it’s scoring right now. And so I just don’t see, like I said, unless there’s like a complete shift in who he is and how Mike Brown can, you know, or there’s some development that we haven’t seen or Mike Brown has figured out a way to make him utilize where he can be that effective as a point guard. I just see him I see him more as a scorer first and a guy that you want to kick out to and then he can, you know, attack when things are breaking down. But to be the lead ball handler for the second unit, I just don’t see it. Even though Rambo in the chat throwing the red flag at me uh saying that he believes that Duce will prove me wrong this season. Okay. Okay. Well, we we’ll certainly hope so. We we certainly hope so. We’re just just our opinion that, you know, this this is where he’s at right now. So, we’ll see. And I did ask him in Vegas, you know, what does he want to work on in the offseason? He said he wants to work on everything. So, let’s see what what happens and and how Deuce fares. He’s had a great offseason himself. He’s, you know, on the book tour, a lot of media going on. So, great job by Deuce and his team really pushing him out there from a marketing and branding standpoint. So, let’s see what happens. And how does Mike Brown um utilize him? Because this is the next question. I think this is a good segue to the next question. And it is by our guy uh Honeybee reviews. Honeybee. We had a good good uh uh session in in Vegas. He’s got a good platform, good channel. Make sure you guys are following him. He’s a he’s out in Utah, but he’s a he’s a diehard KFTV fan and die hard Nick Knicks fan and does a great job on his platform where he does a lot of music content. He’s asking, “How many minutes do you project for Clarkson and Yabuselli?” How how many minutes do you project for Jordan Clarkson and Gershon Yabuselli next year? Man, that’s tough. They have to get I feel like they have to get They have to get 20. They have to at least get 20 minutes each. Um I think what’s tough is that I’m so used to tips coaching this team that I have no idea, man. Um what to expect with Mike Brown, but if anything is shown, if anything what we saw out in Sacramento with how minutes were distributed, I would say that we could kind of swat that in and expect that from uh from Clarkson and Yaveelli. So Malik Monk when he was out there he was averaging uh he was averaging 32 minutes per game and now granted that Darren Fox only played five. Let’s let’s actually go to the season before that and figure that one or two seasons ago when Mike Brown really got there and got uh got Malik Monk activated. Monk was averaging 22 minutes per game. All right. And Fox was averaging 33 minutes. A bonus averaging closer to 35. So I’d say I’d expect Monk to get there. And then you had DaVon Mitchell who was a seventh player getting 18 minutes. So I’d expect something like that close to those numbers for uh Clarkson and Yabaselli respectively. So say closer to 1819 for Yabiselli and then 22 for Jordan Clarkson which is is it’s good minutes for a six-man. How does that impact Deuce? That’s the bigger question. Does deuce then take a reduced role? Because great, you know, Clarkson is gonna be Yeah, because Clarkson, you know, he’s going to be the sixman. That guy’s going to score. He’s going to be doing some facilitating. Yell is going to be out there playing the four, small ball five. So, he’s going to get some minutes. Where does that leave Deuce? Is it like a Trey Wall situation in this case who it’s averaging closer to 17 minutes? That’s the big question with you 100%. That was a question as I was kind of writing this down and and making my estimates. But the but before that, I I’d take a step back because there’s a lot of interesting dynamics at play with this team and with Mike Brown. For one, new system, right? New scheme. How does that interplay with rotation and minutes? Uh because you’re going to need time to get acclimated, gain chemistry with the new system. Clearly, they want more ball movement. They want better offense. That’s going to take time. So, and the thing is is that given that it’s a new system, how much is Mike Brown going to be leaning on these starters, Allah Tibs, versus guys that you would hope are getting a little bit less minutes with the implementation of a Clarkson and a Yabelli because you have better depth, right? like Mhm. Brunson, Towns, OG, Mitch, Hart. Those are four guy. Those are five guys who I think could get it. Use the dial back just based on the fact that they went to the Eastern Conference Finals. And you want those guys as fresh as possible on the back end of the season rather than the front. But the question is, how much leeway are we giving Mike Brown to go to a deeper rotation and give those guys a little bit of rest, right? Oh man, T like Tibs, if Tibs was coming back this year, he would be afforded that. Like let’s say Tibs came out, training cam starts like, you know what, I’m a change man. I’m talking to the front office. We’re we’re we’re going deeper into the rotation. We’re gonna we’re gonna coast, get these guys some some, you know, some breathing room and we’re gonna go deeper into the rotation. I think as a fan base, Tibs will be afforded that luxury because we say Joshart except for Josh Hart because we say, “Okay, we understand the endgame and we understand that, you know, this team is who they are. The system is what it is and we want to get them to the promised land.” But with Mike Brown, can we afford a third or fourth seed with Mike Brown? Third or fourth seed? Yeah. Who who who would be I don’t know. I’m just throwing it out there. You know what I’m saying? I’m just throwing out. I hear you. I guess part of that also goes into who comes out the gate hot, right? Because like you talk about third seed. To me, it’s like it’s Cavs, Knicks. Those are the top two and everybody else is behind. But does somebody get hot from the jump? Maybe Orlando see put put together. So this is the one thing I’ll say and everybody who hasn’t checked in, make sure to go check that interview I did with James Ham last week and this is this is a good topic you bring up CP like how much how much leeway are we going to give him? How much time do the stars need to gel together? Well, he talked about this team. I think he was some somewhere between four to seven guys in that rotation that have never played with each other. And this is where he really harped on practice. Mike Brown is a guy that really harps on practice and to the extent where guys were like, “Yo, we’re exhausted.” All right. But not a lot of injuries his first year. Guys were very well conditioned. It didn’t end the way that they wanted to. They lost to Golden State, right? But those guys had the number one offense in the NBA. They set record highs from a offensive rating standpoint that we haven’t seen. Yeah. And that was in year one. And so that’s what guys who, you know, Sabonis joined the team last season, not a lot of familiarity. You got rid of Halbert in that deal to get Sabonis in here. You know, you talk about, you bring in Malik Monk now to to be part of that team. Talk about Keegan Murray. Um, these are all guys that joined. You don’t have Dante on that team anymore. He’s gone. So you got Herder who’s part of that roster. There’s a lot of new guys in that system that, you know, Mike Brown was able to make it work. So, I think the thing that we’re going to see is Mike Brown really dedicate a lot of time to practice. I think that and I think that’s what he’s going to do to get this team right. And just as James said, this is a guy who is detail oriented. So, you’re not losing that from Tibs to go to Mike Brown. He is from the Papovich system. He he works with that chip on his shoulder. So, I would expect a lot of practices and I expect these guys to be, you know, ready as the season starts to a degree, right? You still got to work things out. You got you need there’s nothing better than actual NBA regular season games to get you prepared. But I do think he still goes to that bench just because he’s going to need those six, seven, eight guys for the postseason. So I see it them getting work too. Yeah. So with that being said, I have for Clarkson closer to 25 minutes. Wow. Yeah. Between 20 and 25 minutes I have for Clarkson. Who you cutting minutes to get up there? It could be Deuce. Okay. It could be deuce. I don’t know. We got to see what what Mike Brown’s impression of him is because I I don’t know if this is just going to be like this, you know, ealitarian rotation here where you’re guaranteeing these guys minutes together. I think Clarkson’s going to get get a lot of burn. I think he’s going to get a lot of burn. I mean, we need another guy who can score the rock and score. And so I’m going 2025 with Clarkson. Yule I think could be on some nights 15 or 20. I think they will put because he’s going to be coming in for Cat. He’s going to be coming in for Mitch. I think there’s going to be some nights where Mitch I think Mitch is not going to be playing backto-back nights. I I I do think that. I don’t think it makes any sense to play Mitch backtoback nights. Mhm. You probably have to factor in some sort of games miss between both Tibs and both Mitch and Towns just by their history, right? They’re going to get banged up some sort of way. Mhm. Hopefully not, but I think based on their history, you have to figure that. So, I think Gabelli is going to have more of a factor. Plus, being more of a reliable offensive threat than Precious was, he should be getting those minutes anyway. you’re paying him as much. I would also say CP I think into that calculation for Yabiselli Josh Hart not having to play the floor as much because he got him and Hart you know with the knee situation how much do you want to even be playing Hart like that? Mhm. Good questions. But I that that’s my range. 2025 for Clarkson and I think 7 15 to 20. I’ll be more 18 to 20. Yule Daniel Bosour says I have the opposite. Yabu 20 to 24. Clarkson 18 to 22. Uh wow. Think Clarkson gonna get 18 to 22. Yeah, I think it’s a little too low for Clarkson. I think it’s a little too low for Clarkson. Gonna be interesting though. So what do you guys think in the chat? Good. Good. Uh, good question by Honeybee and uh and good commentary there. Okay, let’s get to the next one. We got not just Nicks, we got Mel One Life to Live here. He his question. Here’s their question. Let me let me get that one. He I’m not sure. The question is, how will we continue to afford JB Cat OG Mall? Are we going to have to trade Mitch or someone else? If we do have to trade one of those core pieces to help with the salary cap, who do you think it will be and who do you think we trade for? [Music] That’s tough. Um I I could see why everyone would say Mitch, he’s the one that uh hasn’t been extended yet. And you you and Truly talked about where you’d say, you know, you give it probably play it out and see what happens. I really think the answer to that question depends on how the season goes. And that may sound like a copout, but I really I I think in order to see if this will be the second apron team that everyone’s expecting or not will be dependent on how certain players perform. one Macau Bridges, you know, Ojanobi, Carlante Towns, Josh Hart. I think those are those are the four guys. Brunson’s here to stay, but you’ll get those guys plus Mitchell Robinson. Those are the guys that you’re looking at uh to determine who will be gone because I think it’s easy to say Mitch just because of injury history, but if anything, we saw during the postseason, he’s not replaceable like that. Like defensively, what he showed you and it’s just the eye test. It just every time they went in there and I think you talked about this with Fred Catz too like you have to game plan for Mitch. How do you stop him from rebounding? Like that’s that that that that’s an impactful type player right there. He may not garner the flashy 20 some odd points per game, but just defensively he’s a deterrent. No one wants to attack the lane. You have to put bodies on him to stop him from grabbing offensive boards. And if you’re doing that, it’s limiting guys who can go out in transition and just score. So I I know it’s Mitch, but I I just see I don’t think it’s easy to trade Mitch as some may believe, unless once again you’re looking at Haporti, Ezeki coming out of nowhere and these guys just truly great centers that offer that type of similar play that Mitchell Robinson does. I if I would be looking anything, I think I’m looking more so at uh Macau Bridges cuz he got the extension. I think his contract, the way that it’s structured with that trade kicker, too, it’s just much more of a hardier contract to trade and get somebody back in return. And I that’s the guy I’d be probably looking at out of all of them because if it doesn’t work out as what you need him to be, which is another guy that can not only create for himself but initiate the offense, then it’s going to be a little difficult to keep him on this team just for, you know, average type performances with some like, you know, great games here and there in the postseason. It’s really hard to like live off of that. Yeah, I’m with you. Number one, like I said, I I don’t see any scenario that they can make it without Mitch. You know, some people say, “Oh, you’re crazy. Is the injuries this?” I don’t I don’t see how they win a championship without Mitchell Robinson having some sort of impact at least for a couple minutes a game. I I just don’t see how they they can play championship caliber defense without him, period. I don’t I don’t see how they make it. Not with Cat at the five. And then you look, Kuck P is a good player. That’s you need something a bit more serious at the five. Um, also I think they will they will have to dip into the second apron to keep this thing competitive. The reason I’m not so sure that they do it yet is I think they will they will wait and see what the honest situation looks like. It’s not that I’m aggregating that’s it’s not that I’m advocating for him, but I think remember if you dip into the second apron, you can’t aggregate salaries. So they’re they’re it’s a little bit tricky there if you needed to aggregate salaries to go get him. So I think they’ll wait. That’s why I’m not so sure if they’re going to commit to Mitch right now. I think they would wait until the off season. And like you said, it could be a Macau Bridges who would be used in that scenario first before before it’s necessarily a Mitch. And and you know, we talked about this with Trilogy. We talked about this. Yosi Gazin broke it down in terms of the timing of the extension. The fact that he didn’t get before the fifth. So he it’s and that this was the time to get it because he would still been trade eligible. Trade deadline. Trade deadline eligible. Not to say that they will trade him, but it’s always about flexibility with this front office. If we got to pivot, we’re not in a corner. So So Brock is he’s he’s doing the numbers. He’s doing the the the me the mathematics. So there it is. I’m just I the se it all rides on this season CP. It all rides on this season to see what this team becomes because if you do make it to the NBA finals, then you have to run it back, right? Win or lose, you got to run it back. You need to Yeah. Um, if you don’t, God forbid you you you somehow flame out in the second round. Make a move. Things are getting dicey. Things are you’re a move is going to be made. Okay, I like that. Shout out to David Valentine now. Franchise channel member $20 super chat says, “This will be a promising year. Let’s keep the team and not forget last year was a oneyear grind.” Was was Oh, he said last year was year one. Hashtag grind. So, he’s he’s at the Jo. He’s he’s grinding right now. He said just keep it together. Keep it together. Question for you CP. Yep. On Macau Bridg’s contract cuz I got some push back on social. I see that you equipped it up. You said, “Oh, I’m on vacation, but I’m going to throw this out into the world and see uh garner some attention.” Yep. I said Macau Bridges is slightly overpaid. Mhm. And I got some push back saying he is a team friendly deal. Uh he’s not overpaid. what’s your comparison to? And to me, part of me saying that part of me saying that he’s slightly overpaid is because yes, while it is a team friendly deal, I look at his what he produced and I’m looking at a guy like Jaylen Johnson who both of them are making 150 and I’m like now I know that Macau had has had a little bit more to show especially in this postseason than Jaylen Johnson, but I’m like part of me just feels like for what he’s what he has produced in year one I it’s slightly I’m not talking about like oh he should have gotten like 120 but I feel like when I say slightly I’m like 10 million less is my opinion for what he’s what he should have probably gotten but I get why you give him the 150 that’s the cost of doing business yeah I’m with you cost of doing business man I’ve I’ve said it you know multiple times on this show I expected them to him to get the the extension. I wanted him to get the extension and I wanted him to be on this team. I didn’t see any way possible that they were just going to trade him. Ah, it doesn’t make sense. Oh, they gave up the five pick. You know, Ari’s just ranting and raving and crying all day about it. It made and no trade made sense unless you you’re going for a straightup upgrade. It’s the same thing like with Julius, man. Like no trade made sense unless you’re going for an upgrade to to decrease to to downgrade or a lateral move and you’re just getting depth pieces. that’s not putting this team anywhere closer to a championship. And NBA uh focusing on defense week gave Macau Bridges uh two one and two of the top 10 defensive plays of the entire season. I mean, look at these plays against Boston, man. I love them. Just these were series changing plays made by Mau Bridges. City changing plays EP. I was I was out there for game one. I loved it. It was quiet. Yeah. Beautiful. So, no man, it’s cost of doing business. You maintain the flexibility in case you got to trade him. You you give Mike Brown an opportunity. What What did James Ham say? Mike Brown, he was dying for wings with Sacramento. Good wings. Dying for wins. And it was obvious. It wasn’t Demar Rose. It wasn’t Keegan Murray. Those guys are terrible at defense. Uh he wanted the wings. Now you have two of the best in the game. Two-way players, two-way wings. Let’s see what he does. Yeah. Clearly the Macau thing with Tibs wasn’t working out. you swap out the coach, the first domino to fall, I still think he has another level to get to and I think he gets there this year with the team. And that’s the thing and that’s why you that’s why you give him that even if it’s a slight overpay and people are saying over I didn’t say he’s overpaid slightly, right? And that’s the that’s why you because you believe that he can actually get to that level. There has to be some sort of belief. It’s like, all right, based on year one under to on on the Knicks with Tom Tibido as a head coach who didn’t who you believe didn’t utilize him, right? And I don’t think he utilized him right. And I’m just I’m speaking for what the front office is talking about, right? Because this is the conversation that they’re having when they’re trying to make a deal with this guy at the table. It’s like, all right, we acknowledge that Tibs didn’t utilize you, right? We do believe you could do more. We do believe that you can blend whatever you did out in Phoenix and Brooklyn and that we can get a better player out of you and we believe Mike Brown can do that. That’s why we’re giving you the contract that we’re giving you. That’s the conversation that they’re having and that’s the that’s the side that his agent would be representing him saying, “Hey, this guy, you know, this guy dropped 40 points on Christmas Day. What happened to him after that?” Why was it? Th This is true, man. So, I I I think we we’ll be in a good spot. It was a worthwhile deal. You keep him here. Keep him with Brunson. Keep the continuity. I’m with David Valentine. Keep the continuity, man. So, let’s see where they where they take it from here. Shout out to uh BLW, $20 Super Chat franchise channel member says, “Let’s get out. Let’s get our KFTV channel to 100,000 subscribers.” Where we at right now? You know, hopefully he’s got a bright future ahead of him. But no, Frank, man, on the team. He’s been a mainstay on team France for quite some time. No more. He got cut. Yeah. They said, “Oh, look at this. We got some other guys we could bring up now.” You know, so uh they got Mo Diara. They’re like, “You know what? That guy.” Yeah. You know, so that’s this is the the uh the graphic Mercy Frank. Frank. Mercy Frank. Good God. Yeah. All right. Well, you can tell us the dog Day of Summers cuz uh talk about this. Hey. Hey. So, so, so you know, we on the topic of France, man. Right. And, and shout out to my French people, man. I love my French people out. Very, you know, me being a diplomat, I I’m very um, you know, I love to study cultures and, you know, people from all walks of life. I’m I’m I’m a diplomat. I love everybody, but I like to really like understand norms, cultural norms, right? So, you know, I have a very interesting standing with my French people, man. And I’ve had some very interesting experiences whether you know going to Paris, going to Montreal, very interesting experiences. And one thing for sure that’s very interesting is that like I don’t know if you know this, but like the French when it comes to their cult, they don’t play. It’s French first on everything. Right. So So we’re traveling to Croatia now. We we had a JFK and the first the first flight we flew we flew with Air France just based on the pricing and whatnot. We flew with Air France. I’m a Delta guy but Delta’s partner when you go overseas is Air France. So the flight was stopping over in Paris, right? So we at JFK now. We we we getting ready to jump on a plane. Wifey leaves. She leaves her iPad or something by the by the security checkpoint. So we had to double back, go get it. And we coming back to the plane now. So when we come back to the plane, you know, you know, the overhead space is getting taken up. You know what I’m saying? I’m I’m one of those guys like if my if my space above my seat is taken, I’m tight. I’m getting ready to take yours out and move it somewhere else. You know what I’m saying? I feel you. I feel you on that. Right. So So now, so now, so now knowing that we going to be late, I’m like, “All right, we just going to have to maneuver now.” Right. So So, so now we get back, we on the flight now. We on the plane boarding up and we looking for space to put the overhead luggage. So we talking, we strategizing like, okay, maybe we go here, maybe we go here. And the flight attendant, she hears us and but she’s talking to us. She’s like, you know, we we and I’m looking at wifey, she’s looking at me like, okay, clearly she knows we’re speaking in English here, right? So we we’re moving again and she’s she’s going again, you know, speaking in her language. And then all of a sudden, she’s speaking in English. Oh, you can’t put it here. you got to come over here. And I’m just I’m getting ready to look over this to to this lady like, “Lady, if you look out the window, we’re in Queens, knock it off.” You know what I’m saying? But that that’s how they are, man. They don’t play around, you know? So, it’s it’s just very interesting, man. Mhm. It’s just very interesting. I had the same experience in in in Montreal, man. So, yeah, that salute to my French people. I appreciate them for sticking to their guns, but you know, come on, man. Yeah. Come on, man. They’re pr they’re proud people, man. Proud country. They love their language. Yeah. All right, lady. I can see Queens Bridge from from a mile away. Knock it off. All right. We’re at JFK. We’re at JFK. Well, wait till I get to your your hood before you start. You know, come on, man. Do you know what I had to go through to get here? Yeah. On time. You know the amount of traffic out of You know what I’m saying? I’m ready to be like, “Lady, this is a different day and age in this country. Don’t let me pull out a red hat and start making phone calls.” You know what I’m saying? No, don’t don’t let me push the button on you, man. We intense times right now. Shout out to my French people though. I love them. I love them, man. But anyway, man, great show my guy. The way you could have ended that, by the way, the person talking was Frank Noita. 4. Stockton, Nate Archibald, jason Williams, Mark Jackson, Chris Paul. Those guys all got into the paint and dominated the game with penetration and dishing. Guys that could have 15 assists a game. Sure there are point forwards like Anthony Mason and Bird yet they were the exception.

  5. $h!+ is so bad for Mike Brown on the coaching front, he had to promote Rick Brunson after demoting him a month ago.
