The Spurs Are Ready to WIN NOW!

Whether you love the contract or hate it, Spurs fans, let’s make the best of it. What is up, San Antonio Spurs fans? Welcome to TSR Sports. And of course, a lot of mixed reactions yesterday in regards to DRN Fox’s contract extension. I thought, you know what? It is what it is. I’m going to make the best of it. And caught in an article from Air Alamo making the best of it as well. I know you guys some are like Air Alamo, but I actually like this article and wanted to share it with you. But of course, I’m going to give my two cents while doing the article and at the end of the article. Some San Antonio Spurs fans have already been vocal about the long-term price tag attached during Fox after Monday’s big news. I’m certainly part of that crowd. Four years, 229 million is a lot to commit, and the concerns about future roster flexibility are not without merit. We’re all looking towards a future maybe a little too far. Spurs fans, you know, with the contract extensions coming up with Wemby Castle, Harper, Bryant, still got Sohan, it is what it is. Let’s focus on the now. When the Spurs pulled off the deadline deal to trade for Darren Fox, they added the one skill set that our Spurs young group desperately needed. A dynamic downhill guard who can control the game late and run the offense at a high level. He does do all that. Our Spurs have a roster centered around Victor Wemanyama. And with him as that foundation, the need for reliable lead guard becomes non-negotiable. Okay, that’s fair. And here’s a big part of the article that I want to focus on. Air Alamo Fox is worth the price tag. We know he’s a talented scorer, but he’s also a player who knows how to close games and understands what it takes to win. He is a former NBA clutch player of the year. And I believe he just missed a buzzer beater. I think that’s alluding to in the article last season. He hit a shot, but the the clock had just expired. But when’s the last time we’ve really had a clutch player on the Spurs that we could depend on to take that last shot? Dejanti Murray, Demard, Rosen, Kawhi. I mean, yeah, there’s some guys there here and there, but the last few years, Kelvin, Devin, now we got Webby and Fox certainly is not afraid to step up with the clock about to strike zero and take the final shot of the game. He’s proved it time and time again and he will prove that moving forward for our Spurs. Will his deal complicate future decisions maybe and this is where my concern has been. But if the Spurs plan to be competitive in the Western Conference anytime soon, and I got to think this year Spurs fans, we have missed the playoff six years in a row. I believe that is the second longest streak in the NBA. I like to see that streak end this season. And having a proven point guard like Fox next to WY is not a luxury. It’s a requirement. And that is exactly how the front office saw it. Trust the process, right? You guys say that a lot. Trust the process. Okay. For those questioning this first decision here, it might help to remember what the alternative would look like. And I think this is a very valid point. Rebuilding without a reliable backcourt leader is a good way to get end up stuck. And San Antonio is not interested in that. And as a fan base, we’re not interested in being a lottery team again, right? We’ve had enough of the lottery. this year’s lottery with Harper and with Bryant, that should be our last lottery pick, at least from the Spurs themselves. If we get a lottery pick from one of our future trades, so be it. Great. But from the Spurs themselves, this should be the last one for a long time. In regards to our point guard situation with the Aaron Fox, it’s been a mess. If you look at the last few years, I mean, look at the point guards we’ve had since Tony Parker left the team. I wish I could say he retired, but that one year, I I don’t want to talk about it. Dejante Murray who in his last season maybe not a popular opinion I thought Dejante was very good last year with the Spurs in 21-22 he averaged 218 and9 led the NBA in steals per game at two he was an all-star that year injury fine whatever but he was still an all-star and he was pretty good and we thought he was a point guard of the future until he was traded okay who’s up next Trey Jones. I like Trey Jones and he played good in Chicago. Very well actually as a a small spot starter I think believe due to injuries, but he’s likely a backup point guard for his career. A good backup. Great assist to turnover ratio, but a backup nonetheless. And he was our starter for what a year and some change. And then recently Chris Paul. Chris Paul, Hall of Famer, top 10 point guard of all time. Top five, I don’t know. Let you decide that. But he’s passed his prime. He absolutely played well and a shock he played in 82 games at the age of 39 in his 20th season, but he he’s never going to be the long-term answer. So, a one-year rental, if you will. Now, we have Darren Fox in his prime. He’s going into his prime. And I have all expectations that his hands, his shooting hands is going to be fine with the surgery. If the Spurs were truly worried about it, they would not have not only not have traded for him because he had the injury at the time, but they certainly with our medical staff, we got to think they’re smart enough to not offer somebody huge extension if there’s any type of injury concern. So, I’m not worried about the hand. Talk to the hand. But he’s going to be our starting point guard for the next at least I would say four to five years or maybe more. Who knows? Maybe he finish his year as a spur, his career as a Spur and you know it’s it’s Fox and Castle and Harper all on the court at the same time. Ambro, who the heck knows? We have stability now at point guard, something we haven’t had recently. And if we’re going to get the best version of Victor Wbeby, which we haven’t seen, the best version of WBY yet, we got rookie WBY who will be the worst version of himself until, you know, he gets older and things start breaking down, etc., etc. Had the medical issue, I guess, not an injury, medical issue last year, but we saw I think in December, wasn’t that not his best month? We saw MVP level Wemby. Imagine the best version of Darren Fox with the best version of Wemby. That should be scary. That should be really good. I mean, we’ve talked about this. They barely played together last season. Both dealt with their own medical issues. They’re going to have an off seasonason to work together. This could really be a a nightmare for opposing defenses because you got to focus on Victor Wemanyama. He’s going to be the guy that defenses are going to plan for first. Fox is a great offensive player, a scoring machine. But how are you going to stop the Kaiju out there, the guy that’s 7 foot6, 7 foot7 that can shoot threes and has moves. He’s going to be number one focal point. We saw it last year. Got double team, got triple teamed. I don’t think he gets triple teamed with Fox in the court, but he may still get double teamed at times. And Fox with his speed might be able to just break down the defense, get in there and get a bucket, get a layup, get a dunk, whatever it may be. Warfrey penetrates into the paint. He got the eyes on Wem. I got eyes on him and somebody’s going to be open for three, which just means hopefully our three-point shooters are are hitting their threes. But I think this offense is going to really cook and it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch. And you know, it is what it is. He has the contract. I’m all on board. Am I Does the contract size and future calf issue concern me a little bit? Yes. But nothing I can do about it. I’m a Spurs fan and this is the decision they made. They felt it was the right decision and I had my overreaction Monday. I’m ready to move on and see what these two can do on the court. The contract’s huge. But we know what we’re paying with Fox when we speculate about future cap issues. We haven’t seen Sohan ceiling castles Harpers or we haven’t seen Harper Bryant play a real NBA minute. So I’m going to put myself in this group worrying about how we’re going to extend our core guys in the future when we don’t even know if they’re going to be a core guy in the future. Bryant might not be the guy we think he’s going to be. Harper may not. And I’m not wishing anything bad on these players, the record. But the guys that we’re hoping work out, they might not be part of the Spurs future in four or five years if they don’t become the player we think they’re going to. We’ve already seen this happen with Kelman Johnson, Dell, Brandon Wesley already gone. Joshua Primo offc court issues notwithstanding off the team. We’ve had a lot of guy Lonnie Walker just keep donte Murray. We as a channel community over the past six years have had a lot of guys come to the team and said he’s going to be part of our core for the next decade or more. Spur for life. We’ve all said that about numerous players. A lot of them are gone. And I I personally find myself saying that about some current players such as Castle, Harper, and Bryant. And we don’t know. What we do know is Darren Fox is a top 10 point guard in the NBA. Some of you last night were saying he’s ranked 15th or 16th. I’m seeing as a top 10 point guard. Top five, I don’t know. Maybe maybe not. Not here to argue that. But he’s got his Robin. Batman’s got his Robin. Let’s roll it. Let’s have a fun season. Let’s make the playoffs. Let’s get a top 16. Win some playoff games. Maybe get out of the first round and just have I’m I’m looking forward to this season. I I got I got my overreaction out yesterday. I’m ready for this to happen. Of course, it’s going to be a few months before it happens, but that’s all I got. Spurs fans, now that you’ve had some time to digest this. Are you feeling better about it? Or are you still looking at us like TSR? I’m glad we extended him, but I think it’s still too much. We’re going to have cap issues in the future. Let me know in the comments down below. 1. Sorry to tell the kj fans but with this contract he is going to be traded for sure by the trade deadline. He’s making almost 18 million coming off the bench and it’s looks like Devin is not getting traded he is apart of the future for now

  2. Way to keep it positive!! A lot of things look good, which is bad for YouTubing in the off-season, so let me throw some cold water on this happy party so we have something to talk about. Who is going to rebound, aside from Victor? Nobody else has double-digit average RPG, and Victor is only averaging 11. Even Kornet has bad RPG. Sochan had some good games rebounding but only averaged 6.5 last year. Barnes is worse. Do we need another good rebounder?

  3. The spurs could always restructure contracts if winning and make room. Not sure how it all works but hopefully that is the case. Maybe guys willing to take hometown discounts to keep winning if they are winning championships.

  4. Fox clearly wants to be in San Antonio. His wife is in Texas. The good news is Castle has now been tutored by CP and Fox. Harper will be able to develop also. If you split their minutes between the 1 and 2 guard positions, they can average 32 min per game. I like the fit!

  5. Fox was brought in on a discount.
Would you rather have him in a team friendly deal with a team option in yr 4 and lose Castle or what we got? Keep Castle and give Fox his payday.
In the Sackramento he was all alone essentially. Imaging him with the best prospect the NBA has seen, another ROTY, a number 2 pick and the rest of the gang. Fox number are about to go to space
He will be known as Star Fox going forward.

  6. Big Years coming from wemby and fox…and if anybody else has a breakout good god look out…this team reminds me of the 94 denver nuggets that upset the number 1 seed Seattle supersonics …a bunch of young athletic explosive young player's…gonna be fun to watch can't wait…

  7. A lefty all-star level PG. Show him the money!! Other teams would have, given the chance. We should be honoured he wanted to come to SA. And it didn't cost us hardly any draft capital. Just a pile of coin. More than worth it. He was a steal.

  8. castle won rookie of the year last year, but he did not really play point guard all that much. harper has not played a single NBA minute.
why are fans so eager to get rid of existing players? fox, vassell and Johnson are all decent players. let the older kids have some time to prove themselves, let the young kids grow. we ain't going to the playoffs with a rookie/sophomore point guard. so why not rely on fox for a couple of years? he might be overpaid, but they've likely agreed on the contract during the trade, and someone's gotta get that contract this year anyways.

  9. Say what you all want signing fox gives the spurs and wemby a chance to compete now while still be set up for the future with Harper n castle …. We all know wemby wants to win now ….overpay yes but it’s about keeping wemby happy …..

  10. When was the last time an all star wanted to be in SA? Besides CP3 I believe it was Aldridge wayyyyyy back in 2015,…..10 freaking years ago….give Fox is $…it's a 4 year contract so by the time it's over Castle and Harper should barely be beginning their prime …it's perfect nuff said

  11. Preach, TSR!
A lot of good things to witness this coming year. SAS had an awesome offseason. The future looks good, starting with the 2025-2026 season 🤩

If it ain’t Wright it’s wrong

  12. These are all win now moves. Fox’s contract, the vets picked up in free agency and the additional coaches. With all of this, anything less than the playoffs would be a disappointment.

  13. It’s an exciting time to be a spurs fan! I’m looking forward to winning basketball! Hoping we can figure out what to do with this guard situation throughout the season. It’s too early to judge Harper and castle but we still have kj and vassel. Any strong playoff team only needs about 3-4 guards depending on the construction for playoff basketball. I would love if we can get the rotations down or if we need to get proper compensation for either vassel kj or both. Any playoff team (particularly in the east) that needs more guards should be calling us about these guys.

  14. I’ll tell you what though, it looks like a two timeline strategy by the front office. It’s never worked before but it’s looking good for Spurs at the time.

  15. Aron Fox is a iron clad point guard who is a proven All star and with his experience he going to be the best mentor money can buy for are young spurs team. Let's go Spurs:)

  16. His contract isn't going to be an issue unless he comes Bradley Beal. It is not going to affect Wemby's contract and when Castle's extension hits there will be only one year left.

  17. If Fox and Wemby are at the level that we are waiting them to be, the starting lineup should be very positive in term of NetRating.
My starting lineup of october (2026 is another story…) would be composed of the most efficient players : Fox – Vassel (from 1st of march, he is back to 56% efficiency on drives and 43% on catch&shoot) – Barnes (please not PF anymore) – Olynyk (even if not great defensively, he can bring great catch&shoot, rebounding and connecting passing) – Wemby. This lineup should offer an impressive spacing for Fox and Wemby. All the three other players are great catch&shooters (more than 40% at the perimeter).

The second unit could be lead by the young players : Harper – Castle – Champagnie/Bryant – Sochan – Kornet. Up to them to show that this lineup could get a not too negative NetRating. This lineup should be defensively very good but offensively weak. Castle and Sochan could show their improvements in opened catch&shoot 3s.

During the game, you can test some lineups introducing Harper as off-ball player with Fox and Wemby. Castle could replace Vassell if a more agressive defense at the point of attack is needed. Kornet can be associated to Wemby if a double big lineup is used by the opposite team. A smallball tactic can be implemented to dramatically increase the pace facing very old teams (Clippers, Warriors,…).
The roster is now deep enough to answer to all tactical changes from opposite teams.

I don't see Keldon Johnson getting lots of minutes next season because Champagnie and Bryant should definitely be prioritized. The locker guy at 17.5M$ per season… (argh…).
Waters and McLaughlin won't play out of the garbage time except if one of the guards is injured. In that case, I would even prefer that Garcia would integrate the Spurs' roster to get some minutes.

  18. Spurs needed a Robin to Wemby's Batman, he got it (might be an overpay Luka type$ but there is no doubt that Fox will earn it plus don't wanna piss off RP so…max…), now it's go time fr, playoffs is a must this year then next summer can be more building towards a title, excited but… subcontueous worry about future extensions be damned gonna be loving this right now team, Go Spurs GO!

  19. 45-PLUS Wins this season and playoff-bound! Absent injury, I'm optimistic Spurs do better than current projections — because most media projections are conservative, based on performances last year. Off-season reporting shows good growth by Castle and Sochan and we should have a healthy Wemby and Fox to start the year (fingers crossed). GSG!

  20. Now, I'm feeling a bit uneasy because of the stress/pressure after this big reacquisition,
to make a push into the playoffs with the newly imposed expectations.

  21. imagine if fox was on lakers, knicks, celtics, bulls he'd be talked about so much more and would definitely be considered a top guard! i think we got lucky he wanted to come to San Antonio. a guard that actually does it all!

  22. Just watched "De'Aaron Fox BEST Transition Finishes 🦊😤" on the youtube's NBA channel…
With Wemby's "Blocksteals" (cause he manage to turn his blocks into steals: he keeps the ball or he passes it) and Fox speed in transition, it's gonna be AWESOME.

  23. Vic said it to Dylan on draft day, WE LIT! Here is the team that will be on the floor at mid to end of 4th, in the guts of the game…Fox, Castle, Harper, Wembanyama, Barnes. All killers, all shooters, all CLUTCH. Great content, I can dig it.y

  24. The San Antonio Spurs have signed Micah Potter. 6-9/6-10 forward from the Jazz. More than Likely training camp deal. Seems like he could get the 15th spot. I've read where he's an all-around decent player and can make baskets.
