Previewing Nikola Jokic and Serbia at EuroBasket with Miroslav Cuk | DNVR Nuggets Podcast LIVE
[Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. [Music] What’s going on everybody? Welcome to the DMV nuggets podcast. Let’s go. We are live on a casual Friday in the absolute dog days of the off season. So casual. Uh we got a fun show coming up today. We’re going to talk Eurob Basket and uh hopefully hear from some DMV dieards in the second half of this show. Uh let me introduce the panel. I’m Harrison Wind. We’ve got Dline Co. live from Phoenix. That’s right. If you want to question my dieh hard status, I walked around in 118°ree heat yesterday and I did not die. So, I think by I think it’s hard to kill me clearly. Like no other being could uh go through what I just went through, but it was worth it because I got Taco Boys, which is the only place I ever eat when I come to Phoenix because it’s the best. Taco Boys. I’ve never had it. Oh, it’s the best. Never had it. Also joined by the homie Mirroslav. Yeah, I’m calling I’m barely calling from Serbia. I just got here from Greece. I drove all night last night. Uh but this is how much I love you guys. I’m just going to power it through and and try to to make through the entirety of the show. So, you were in Greece. Yeah. Yes. Interesting. Did um did you feel threatened? Did you uh have any confrontations about um backup centers that wanted to go there but are going to be on the Nuggets next season? Did you well first question is did you identify yourself publicly as a Nuggets fan in any way according to the internet endangering yourself by doing so? Did did you hide the fact that you are pruggets while in Greece? You would think America is like a like a divided nation. You should see Greece because and Olympia that’s the south of the Greece, that’s Athens, that’s and where I was the north of the Greece. So only artist uh and PA fans over there. So there was a lot of a lot of and I mean a lot of PA uh uh what’s the what is it called? Gate 4 graffiti everywhere. The Greeks are crazier than Serbs. uh when it comes to sports and that’s uh saying things that’s I I feel like um I’ve been trying to form my ultimate theory on why certain nations get more and more insane about their sports and I feel like Greece started off they came out of the gate real hot as far as uh the western civilization was didn’t they invent sports kind of they had the 300 you know they had like all of these like famous battles they invented the Olympics and like and now they don’t really have like a presence in that way on the world stage. So they like funnel all of their rage into uh I don’t know burning down their own stadium when their basketball team plays. I I famously said that Serbia is not in the Eastern Europe but it is in the in the southern Europe or central Europe if you want to call it like that. All the crazy nations in Europe come from the southern part of Europe. So we’re talking, you know, Greece, all of former Yugoslavia, Albania, Turkey, Italy, Portugal, Spain, those are the crazy nations. And then when you go more h up north, it’s just people don’t have as much nice weather as we do. So they probably have to work more, you know, and not concentrate on dumb things like sports. So that Yeah, there you have it. That’s a very very logical explanation. I I follow along pretty well. Very scientific. Very scientific. Scientific. Um well, glad you made it back from Greece and uh you’re back home in Serbia. Um we got to talk Eurob basket because August 27th is actually Serbia’s first game. That’s their opener against Estonia. They’ve got they’ve played some, you know, behind closed door scrimmages. I believe two of them against Bosnia, against Poland. They won both those. Yoke had a a S on board double, a massive one in one of those games. They’re playing actually against Greece this weekend uh in a game that I see Giannis is not playing in. We need you on though to to give us our Eurob basket preview in terms of, you know, what’s at stake for Serbia in this tournament. Should they win it? And then we should also go kind of up and down the roster because there are some new names that uh are playing with Joker that I’m not familiar with. So yeah. Yeah. Plus we should go ATC ac across the continent a little bit too and find out what some of the other teams might be offering. Kale prepared the ATC graphics glamorous ATC chip chop. So let’s start with the Sombor double. I don’t think that happened at all because there’s no box score available from that game. I think somebody just made it up and put it on Reddit something. So, this is this is actually Yeah. Yeah. This is interesting. Several basketball reporters about it and everybody told me there’s no box score. There’s no real, you know, box score available. And that was, you know, by design because we don’t even know which players played in those first two behind the closed doors games. We kind of know that Yuf Nurkich and uh Castan guy didn’t play for for Bosnia against Serbia, but even that is not like 100% sure because it’s like reported by somebody who wasn’t in the arena. Uh so yeah, it’s it’s kind of crazy. But yeah, uh tomorrow there’s going to be a really interesting game between Serbia and Greece um um in Limasol in in Cyprus. And it’s it’s a tournament Serbia is going to play on on Sunday against Cyprus as well. Uh what’s interesting about these games is they’re going to be televised. So we’re going to be able to watch those games and uh possible box scores that are going to come out of them might be real. So So let’s let’s keep an eye on that. Can I can I just understand what you’re alleging here? Do you Well, yeah. And and let me chime in, too, because this was a closed door scrimmage, the one against Bosnia. Nobody really These are big accusations. These are big accusations. We need But here’s something interesting that happened because I was also looking, you know, for the stats about this and um, you know, we put it up on our Twitter. There were some graphics put out. Originally, his statline came out. Yokic’s stat line came out from this closed door scrimmage and it said 20 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists. And then it started getting, I don’t even know, reported by some people that it was 20 points, 19 rebounds, nine assists. So I I like this theory that nobody actually knows what happened in this game. I’m not even sure Nicola played in that game. So your So your feeling is that this came from somebody that did not even see the practice at all. Not that somebody was just out there counting on their fingers. Yeah. That the reporters were not allowed to be in the arena for the game. they just got with the information about the final score and uh you know every quarter score that’s all that was available. So you believe this is a complete and total fiction? I mean it’s possible it’s true. I’m just saying it’s really possible it’s not true. We should do we need to do this. We need to do this. Let’s just create a an insane like wilt like graphic for uh Yic following this next game and just be like nobody doesn’t like Yo like 45 points. Yeah. 19. What what’s also so funny about that that Bosnia scrimmage was there were a couple like articles written up about it and it was so vague because nobody actually was there. So, it was all second half stuff, but a lot of it was Serbia jumped out to a big lead and then cruised into the fourth quarter and somehow Joic’s stat line, that was the only madeup or true stat line that was out there. You had no idea about anybody else who played in that game. And then the next game that they played against Poland, there was no mention of any players that actually played in that game as well. just a final score got leaked out there. See, this is stuff we could never get away with in the US. There’d be like like everybody’s, you know, publicist or be calling like you can’t get away with things be being that secret, you know, like there’s just no way like this is why we need our European brothers to have things be a little bit looser, you know, like a little bit like more like we don’t know what’s happening. Uh you can you could completely fabricate a story and the world will just run with it. It’s beautiful. I love it. Yeah. Well, when it comes to team Serbia, there are 17 guys on the list right now. Uh before you know, Coach Pesich narrows it down to 12. Uh we should start with I guess Nicole Yokic, you know, the best player in the world for the past five years. And what you also what you also uh recognize from his FIA play is that he is providing everything he does in the NBA but he also plays elite defense on FIA stage because there’s just uh fewer minutes in every game so he can you know exert himself more in those game maybe that’s why Luca Donic also looks great in in FIA basketball but but uh that’s neither here or there. Um, second star, Bogdan Bogdanovich, as we know, team captain and probably the most beloved player in Serbia, elite shooter and scorer and a high level playmaker. What I found interesting from a from a coach Pesich interview from about seven days ago, he mentioned he has three captains on his team. Not only Bogdan Bogdan, he has three guys. And I was expecting to hear Nicolola Yokic’s name. He’s not one of the three captains. So the other two guys are Stefan Yovic who is a point guard who is returning to the team after he played in the 2023 World Cup and also Nicolola Militino the the backup center you you all also know Militino is more of a captain than Nicolic. What the hell? I I don’t know why why Pes even mentioned that. But th those three are the three oldest guys uh on the team and I guess this is why he chose those three as team captains. Or maybe Nicola just doesn’t care about you know titles. Even still like Militinov does not seem like a big he doesn’t seem like a guy you’d follow. He’s just like a big lunky center. It’s that’s weird to me. But okay, fine. Next up, Vasamiti. We all know who Vasamiti is. He is a scoring point guard. very inconsistent in his effort but makes incredibly big shots. Sound familiar, Eric? How did this guy win MVP of the league being? He made some incredibly important shots for FS Pilson two years in a row and they won two Euro League champions. But did so did he not have like a consistent He won based off of like a tournament like a championship push. He’s a really good Euro League player, but but he’s not as awesome in every environment. Like he famously played for Red Star Belgrade. Uh I don’t I don’t even remember it was one or two seasons and he he was horrible for them. It’s just it depends on on the environment. He needs the ball in his hands. And I I thought he was he was pretty good last year. uh next to Nikicoish, you know, remember he had like a really like the game we watched. He first off got hurt. I feel like he’s gotten hurt in a quarter of the games I’ve ever seen him participate in, but he he was like pretty quiet. Is he good generally in Euro basket competition? I wouldn’t call I there’s a reason I mentioned two guys before I mentioned him. He is a guy who can score 30 points with ease, but he’s not going to do that every night. As I said, we know a guy like that. It only happens if he’s playing against the Lakers. Yeah. Yeah. Something like that. Next up, uh Stephanovic. As I mentioned, he is Serbia’s best true point guard. He is 34, I want to say. So this is his final uh national team competition and he’s trying to win the gold medal in his uh final appearance. I don’t think he’s going to be the starter on this team even though he is the best point guard true point guard they have. He is also pretty good defender and very very savvy with balls. So uh yeah uh I’m I’m a big fan of of Stefan Yoic. Another Yoic is Nicolovic, the guy you know you know from Miami Heat. What does the uh what do the Serbs think of him as a player? He hasn’t really shown much in the NBA, but how do you guys look at him? He was really good last year, two years ago. He was really good last year up until he got injured and he played through some injuries last year. He is really talented. He he is a very smart player. One thing uh he lacks uh as of now is he’s not a really good rebounder at the power power forward position. We need him to be more of a uh you know more of a high energy rebounder. So so so he could you know what is what would you like what is his game when it comes to team Serbia is he’s a really good shooter. He’s a really good shooter. Yeah. Stretch. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. and and he can put the ball on the floor as well a bit. So, he is pretty versatile. It’s just that we need him to be a good rebounder so he can be a starting power forward. Sounds like Michael Porter Junvvic [Laughter] Junich. Okay, next up, you remember Philip Petrus from last year? He was really good last year. Very talented, very skilled. Can play at both big spots. He might be in the closing lineups of many games. I’m not sure he’s going to start, but he might be uh that because Pesic likes to play with two really big guys and Petrus is the most mobile of all of our, you know, big guys, so he can play next to Nicola pretty well. So, this is why I expect him to play a lot of minutes in this tournament. Uh Vanya Marinkovic, you remember him from last year as well. He is he is a good shooter. He’s a good scorer. He can be very streaky. He can go through cold stretches sometimes, but it is what it is. But he’s very motivated always when he plays for team Serbia and and I expect good minutes from him. Marco Goodri, he is the backup to Bogdan Bogdanovich. They rarely play together and he is also a very good shooter for years. He’s been a much better Euro League player than a national team of Serbia player. for some reason he wasn’t as good for team Serbia as he was in Euro League, but I think he was pretty good last year and and we have, you know, good high hopes from him as well. He’s a very high energy guy as well. Nicola Topitz probably the biggest X. I’m very very interested to see what Nicol I frankly I hope he sucks. I can’t I can’t I can’t have him going to the Thunder and being good, dude. I can’t have it. I don’t know if he’s going to be part of the team at all. I don’t know. He might get cut. You think? Yeah, kind of. Sucks. He might just not be one of the 12 guys. I’m not sure. I’m not sure, you know, what level of physical shape he is after missing the the full season with OKC. We We’ll see about that. I’m I’m hoping to see him tomorrow. Oh, by the way, there’s going to be a Serbian corner tomorrow. It’s going to be way better show than this. our show. The show is going to be right after the Serbia Greece game. So, I’m going to give you all the Wow. all the all the Hopefully, you’re in the the winners uh I don’t winners corner. Winners winners. Yeah. What would you Apart? That that should be a really good show. No, I I think everybody should definitely tune into that. Let’s hit a break really quick. We’re talking Eurob Basket. Who do you think is the starting five for Euro Basket? If you had to put together a fiveman group that that you think Pesich might go to? Oh yeah, that’s different from what I would do. I think it’s going to be Mitsich. It’s going to be Bogdanovic. It’s going to be Marinkovic, Nicolola Yovic, and and Nicollayic. I think that’s going to be the starting five, but I might, you know, I might get surprised by some tweaks there. You know, Patricia might be the starting part for We’ll see. We’ll see. Do you think that um Do you think the fact that I saw Kalinich in a bar brewery last time I was there has any standing on his uh status with the team? Oh yeah, he’s retired from the team years ago. Yeah, I don’t even remember. I I mean, people in Serbia know why is no longer playing for team team Serbia, but uh yeah, he he’s a really good player. He would be a really good part of this team, but he just isn’t for several years now. So, you know, it is what it is. Some some guys uh uh do play, some others do not. Uh I I started talking about Nicola Topic. mentioned he is a big X factor. He might be the guy that could win a game or two for team Servia if he plays. And I have no idea if he’s going to be in the team at all. I I like rooting for all these guys. I I love rooting for all these guys. I don’t know if I can root for Topic, though. I know. This is so tough. This is the first time this has happened. I feel like this is like us having to vote to uh root for Chris Paul on Team USA. Like I don’t worry about it because I think he’s going to suck for the Thunder. Dude, I’ll tell you my real fear is that I’m going to fall in love with him and then I’m going to be like, “Oh no, he’s going to suck for the Thunder the same way Mitch sucks for the Thunder because you know, how can you, you know, play the same way as you play with SGA?” Yeah, that’s not basketball. Like, come on. It’s like how everybody sucks as Joic’s backup center. Everybody sucks as the Thunder backup point guard, I guess. Yeah, except for that they all thrived. Look, can we change the subject? He’s gonna stay. My favorite guy on the team though, Alex Ramo. Oh, he would start. Yeah, he’s going to be, you know, a guy off the bench. He’s going to have four steals in every game. He’s going to pick every every pocket available. He’s just uh I think he’s an insane person actually, but you know, definitely an insane basketball personality for sure. And yeah, I just love that guy. He doesn’t like look like a basketball player either. He looks like a guy that would be in Grand Theft Auto, like the Miami edition, just like kind of walking the streets. He doesn’t look like particularly tough, but like he is I also can’t tell how old he is. Like, you know what I mean? Like he could be 40 or he could be 22 and I would be satisfied with either answer. But yeah, he seems insane. He seems like a certifiably insane person. To me, to me, he’s Serbia’s Bruce Brown. Oh, great call. That’s a great call. He is actually, if if I would make a comparison, he is a taller worse passer. Faku, who is a better shooter? Well, Faku is a great passer. He is a great passer. Alex is not as great, but he is a better shooter than Faku. And by the way, have you guys have you guys seen uh there are I ran into a couple clips of like Faku highlights on the Nuggets and I was like it’s so funny what you can do with a highlight package. I was like this is the greatest player I’ve ever seen. Look at these passes. This is unbelievable. I’m telling guys, he’s amazing. He just came to the NBA way too late. You know, he should have been in the in the NBA 10 years before. Way too but he’s way too small for the NBA. like he cannot he is now he is now you know but remember what the NBA looked like 10 years ago it was a different world back then uh there’s a bunch of other guys like you know uh as we mentioned Nicolola Milino of Door Dan David you remember those guys do is the guy who missed that three wide open three-pointer never forget it freaking do us yeah he’s a great defender though we have Alan Smileage you remember him from from smiley Yeah. From the Golden State days. He was once labeled the next yogic. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t think he’s going to be You’re probably not going to be dead. Another interesting guy is Tristan Vukchevich, who is a son of of former basketball player Duchan Vukich, who was also the the uh part of the team team Serbia uh back in the day. He is a really tall. He’s like seven 71 power forward. Really ranging guy. good shooter. Balsha Coperitz, another tall guy. But yeah, that’s that’s when the list kind of, you know, uh tails off and we’re talking about guys we don’t expect to do in the in the last 12. Gotcha. Gotcha. So, they start play late August in the official Eurobasket games. Who in your opinion are the top teams that Serbia is going to be competing with as we go around the continent? You’ve killed it. Yeah. Oh, hell yeah, dude. Dude, how did you do that so quickly? That’s incredible. So, first of all, group A in in RA in Latia. That’s a that’s a that’s a group where you have Serbia and you have Latia who is a host nation is probably going to be in the elimination round. Other than that, Czech Republic not really good. They can they can hit a lot of threes sometimes. Turkey not good at all outside of Turkey. They’re really good when they’re playing on the home turf. Estonia also a team that will shoot a lot of trees. Portugal. I had no idea they have a basketball team. They have Neimus Keta, you know, the guy who is gonna be possibly a starting center for Boston Celtics. Oh, yeah. Kada. Yeah. My favorite part, this is why it’s so valuable to have Miruslav on for a variety of reasons. The first one being his charming personality, but also there’s nothing better than hearing Europeans dismiss other European nations like, “Oh, those lousy sardine eaters.” Like, what? They can’t they can’t believe they even have a basketball team. We You can’t get that from us. We don’t understand the hate. Yeah, I know. Yeah, it’s it’s really really rooted in in decades decades. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Lean in. Yeah. Uh group more enemies today. Group B, we have Germany and Lithuania as the two top teams. There’s one more wildcard team and that’s Finland with Lai Maran because he is a monster in in FIA play. he can, you know, put 40 on anybody. I’m not sure they they’re going to have a lot of enough firepower around him uh to go deep uh on the tournament. Group C is Spain and Greece and Italy is not good except against Serbia, right? They’re the uh they’re the Minnesota Timberwolves of international competition. Absolutely. So, we just pray we don’t play Italy ever. Uh, who’s in Italy now? Who’s there? Who’s got Yeah, we’ve got the Nikoli. You know, are the Hernand Gomez brothers still represented? They play for Spain. It has to be. Isn’t that what I said? Oh, Italy. We’re talking Italy. Sorry. What do I know? Come on. Spain is always good. Spain is not as good as it used to be, but Spain is a team you have to count on on every big tournament for the last 20 plus years. They they always have to have a set of brothers. Like a a big tall set of brothers. That’s the That’s the the number one thing you can count on from Spain. Yeah. Maybe we should have our set of Jokic brothers on our team. I don’t know. There’s no way. Uh there’s no way Luigi Doto is still lacing him up there. He’s not playing. No. No. He retired. Thank god. What about uh is um Oh god. What’s his name on um Orlando? The Vagner Bros. No. No. I The brothers part threw you off. I No. Uh their star that is like sort of Italian but sort of not. Oh. Oh. Bero. I don’t think so. Is he lacing him up for Italy? Well, didn’t he just play for team USA? Yeah, he is a traitor. He just healed and played for He wanted He wanted to take the easy road. Yeah. Yeah. I’m a I’m a banker hater because he he betrayed Italy. Even though that’s a good thing for Serbia, of course. And then in group D, you have uh France without Wii and without Gobear. First thing is is bad for them. The second thing is good for them. You know, the fact they don’t have Gobear. Uh Luca don’t treat with Slovenia as well. And then the other teams are not as good. Like maybe Israel with Denny Abdia, but they’re not really good. Is Vl for Slovenia? Yeah, let’s go. Of course. Who? rooting hard for team Slovenia in every in every matchup uh except against Serbia of course. I’m So what is the relationship between Serbia and Slovenia? It seems like of all of the former Balkan nations that you guys seem to have the best relationship. Is that accurate? Everybody likes the Slovenians because they’re just nice people. So everybody likes Sloven. I don’t think there’s like little thing between Croatians and Slovenians because of the border thing like the the the seaside some you know unclear things but other than that everybody loves Slovenians because they’re just nice people. So yeah. Oh that’s that’s awesome. That’s what I’m saying dude. I’ve been to Ljubljana several times. It’s a it’s a wonderful place and a wonderful people there. Slovenia and Serbia do not touch at any place right there. There’s uh Croatia or who’s in between them? Is it Croatia? Croatia. Croatia. Yeah. Yeah. Gotcha. Interesting. I’m just uh I’m just trying to absorb all this knowledge. I want to have all of this entrenched knowledge so I know who I’m supposed to hate, why I’m supposed to hate them, and what types of things I can yell at them or just yell in general that might really get to them. Yeah. I mean, I I would I would root for Croatia as well if they had a team good enough to be among the 24 teams in Europe, but they don’t. Yeah. Well, that was great, Mirros. Thank you uh so much for that information. I’m glad we were prepared for our uh Euro basket preview this time. This time around. Yeah. Um let’s hit a break and uh we’ll wrap up with that. We’ll talk about some news and notes from today and then get to some die hards. I believe we’ve already got one waiting so we’ll hit that second half of the show. Harrison win Dline co from Phoenix. The homie Mirroslav from Serbia. The Nuggets preseason schedule dropped. I don’t know if you guys finally big news. Big news. big big news and we’ve got the full preseason schedule here. You want to like this is important to get out as early as uh head ahead of time as early as possible so people can adjust their travel plans accordingly. Figure out you know which which of these preseason games they’ll be attending things like that. Absolutely. October 4th verse the Timberwolves. That game is in San Diego. Oh, that one’s going to mean everything. I think we’ll probably be at that one to be honest training camp. To be honest, if we beat them in uh preseason, I’m considering the streak broken and we’re back. Well, do you know what happened last preseason? Dline. No, I don’t. I mean, yeah, but just tell everybody else. We beat the Timberwolves. Oh, hell yeah, dude. So, that Yeah. So, what are they talking about this streak? What a bunch of What a bunch of jokers. Um, so that’s in San Diego at uh a arena that doesn’t usually host NBA games. So, that’s always interesting. at the conclusion of training camp down there. They’ve got the Raptors in Vancouver. We’ve talked about that. Then they’ve got the Clippers into it dome going back to California for that one. Dang, dude. The wall packed that one. You should be in the wall for that game. I feel like we’ve got uh the Bulls at home. The only true home game for the Nuggets in preseason. October 14th, first just one. And then October 17th at the Thunder, final preseason game. Usually somewhat of a sometimes somewhat of a dress rehearsal. So maybe that will be against the Thunder. Listen, uh thoughts, comments, questions, concerns. My thoughts. Uh I can’t wait for basketball. You know what I mean? Like I just can’t wait for basketball. I cannot believe this the drought of sports that I’m on right now. Like I just don’t watch anything. You know what I do? I watch Tik Tok. It’s terrible. Like I’ve my my viewing patterns are disgusting. Like I’m being poisoned from within. Uh like I’m Tik Tok is trying to, you know, sew very destructive social ideas into me through repetitive uh propaganda. So I can’t wait to watch the Nuggets take on the Timberwolves. It’s going to be great. I’m so excited to get to watch Timberwolves and Thunder again. Like what’s a season without 15 games against those two teams? It’s like when we used to only play the Blazers nonstop. Like I I was like the Blazers again. Are you effing kidding me? And now we have two teams we all we play all the time non-stop. So yeah, I’m I’m so excited to to watch those games. And yeah. Yeah. I I might even skip some of those or or just watch the watch along with you guys, you know, without the game actually. Yeah. Yeah. You We’ll see. You want to hear us make an entire quarter about mukbangs like that? That’s sports. That’s what sports is about. People don’t get that. Everybody’s complaining about ESPN’s broadcast teams. Just watch the NVR guys. Like, why why the hell are you watching ESPN? Yeah. You want to hear uh I don’t know, Stephen A. Smith explain to you the difference between uh a mukbang and a simple uh you know one fry or two fry eat like that’s we get sports. Some of our best moments of the entire season came from the watch alongs. They all do. Yeah. Every nickname for every nickname that that starts and becomes a thing all originate in the uh watch alongs where somebody says it off-handedly and then all of a sudden it just catches fire and then it’s a thing. That’s how it goes. Yeah. Do you guys hope the Nuggets are playing on Christmas this year? Man, I’m of two minds on this. One mind is absolutely not, so I could spend Christmas with my goddamn family. And the other thought is absolutely yes, so I can get away from my goddamn family. Yeah. I I just wish they don’t play on Christmas so you guys can have a off day because you deserve an off day here and there. But in reality, Nikico doesn’t care about, you know, that kind of Christmas. So he he will just play and and play well. Uh so I don’t I don’t I don’t have a real feeling about it. I guess it is a invitation to uh among you know the the the marquee franchises of that year. We’ll see for how long the 2023 championship is going to keep the nuggets on the Christmas schedule. Hopefully this year we’re going to get some extra years of Christmasing because of really successful season. But other than that, I I don’t really have a especially because they always play at like 3:00 a.m. in Serbia. So yeah, it is it is like a nice um a Christmas day ma slate is a nice uh understanding of how you’re viewed by the league at large. Like you it really is like you’re worth you’re you’re like part of the club. Like when you get shut out you’re like oh man. Yeah. It did feel like a big moment when the Nuggets were finally elevated to the games. Yeah. It’s like getting permanently it is like getting regul or relegated. Like if you lose the Christmas day, you’re getting relegated. So from that standpoint, I definitely hope we have one. We also need the nobody believes in us sentiment again because this is our fuel. So I kind of hope they don’t play this year. Yeah. Well, we we heard it might be the Timberwolves as the Nuggets Christmas opponent. So we’ll see if that’s what the schedule is, but that that might How did you not guess that? There’s one of two opponents. You did not game 13 against the Timberwolf. Yeah. Um, here’s here’s another note I had. On the way into the office today, I was listening to the Young Man and the Three podcast. Oh, yeah. Did you stop at stop at Starbucks on the way in? No, not today. Actually, not today. Yeah. No wonder you’re off your game. You’re not doing that well on this episode. I know. Um, so Cam Johnson is like a host of this podcast. He’s on like every episode, but they had Payton Watson on um for like half the show for this latest one. And a couple a couple key quotes in my opinion that I wrote down. Cam asked or um the host asked who he asked Payton, “Does do you have any Jokic games that you know stick out as like, oh my god, this was his best game or like a top three Jokic moments that are ingrained firmly in his mind?” and he rattled off a couple. But then he said something really interesting. He said, “Every time we play the Wizards, not that the Nuggets win those games, but because Jokic always has massive games.” And he said he thinks part of it is because there’s such a big Serbian population in Washington DC. Oh, yeah. Cuz he there’s a uh what is the restaurant? What’s our restaurant? Ombar. There’s an Ombar location there as well. The DC area. Yeah. So he’s like I’m sure he’s fueled up on Rockia. He’s got some rocket fuel in him, so to speak. Yeah, I just thought that was interesting. He likes playing in Washington. He likes playing in Milwaukee and Chicago. Those are the three cities uh with where you usually get the Serbian heritage night and stuff like that. Yeah, I I I guess he he likes playing in Washington, but also he has to play well because everybody else plays horrible against Washington. So yeah, this is why you you get premier games against So Miruslav is why those cities? Why do why do Serbians move to those cities? Do you have any insight into that? No, I I mean it’s it’s been like that for decades. It’s not a new thing. Chicago and Washington in particular, I I actually learned about Milwaukee, you know, in the last couple of years. I had no idea Milwaukee had a big population, but yeah, Washington and Chicago for some reason. And in Canada also Vancouver and Toronto also big big Serbian cities for some reason. I have no real uh interesting know why. 40 Let me just rattle off his stat lines against the Wizards recently. 401 13 and 9 56 and 8 211 19 and 15 42 12 and 8 31 12 and 7 43 148 and 5. Bro, those are just his last six games against the Wizards. Did you say there was a 50-pointer in there? Yeah, the 56 pointer that they lost. Oh my god, that’s last year. I I’m so going to stop watching NBA when he retires, man. Like, that’s going to be rough. You mean you’re not going to just casually wake up at 3 in the morning to watch whoever the possib dieards? We’ve got one waiting. Andrew C is in the queue. Hell yeah. But um I’m gonna drop the link again in the Discord, but let’s bring on Andrew. What’s going on, man? What’s up, guys? Appreciate you guys having me on. Hell yeah. I can I be honest? I I normally listen to this on Spotify and I kind of have it sped up. So, y’all talking normal is like you’re moving in slow motion to me. I’m like, it’s like you’re like maybe slightly intoxicated. Maybe just a little bit. This is why uh Yokic and Luca are so good because they can vary their speed so much and it like messes up the defenders. So that’s us to you right now. Do we sound We have to sound crazy at two times. Like you have to sound like chipmunks. It doesn’t sound that it honestly does not sound that bad. It’s just um two times. No, no, it’s not. I don’t Two times is okay. No, that that’s crazy. But okay, one like one point 1.3. Yeah, 1.25 1.3. I think that’s a good that’s a good rate of speed. We should all just start talking really slow. Yeah. Yeah. Or no, we should just we should just talk like this so he feels more comfortable, right? Um what’s going on, man? What’s uh what’s on your mind about this team? One thing I was thinking of, y’all did a good lineup show earlier this week. Y’all were talking about lineups, staggers, stuff like that. One thing I was thinking was like, you know, Jamal’s been with Jokic for like 10 years now, basically. Whatever. AG’s been there for like 5 years. I think they should both play with the bench. I think both of them are best independently of everybody without Joic. And I think they should both play with the bench along with Big Val and then you can plug in two two like the two other guys don’t really matter that much to me. But I think if you have a lineup with Joic or excuse me with Murray, Big Val, Aaron Gordon, there’s almost no chance that it’s a negative. I would and I would say that a lineup with Jokic, Cam Johnson, Christian Brown, and then plug in two other guys. There’s also no chance that that’s below like a plus 10 at all times. So, that was one thing that I was thinking of like also also like uh Murray and Gordon are paid like they their contracts are like so their stats probably don’t quite mean as much to them as like uh Payton or Christian or Cam. I think Cam’s up for extension in like a year or two. So, I was thinking about that lineup combination and you know with lineup combos you can go I mean you could it’s there’s 15 guys on the roster so I can think of literally well there’s 14 right now but I can think of literally there’s infinite possibilities so that was one that I was thinking of. Yeah, that’s interesting because I feel like out of all the staggers that we talk about, we don’t really talk about Aaron Gordon potentially with the bench that much. But I mean, you’re right. If you just have him and Jamal on the floor with Big Vow and it’s, you know, a hardway or whoever you want to put in those last two spots, like that’s probably going to be a good lineup. I I got to think the Nuggets are going to be really cognizant of not playing AG too much this year. But then on the other hand, I wonder if backup power forward minutes would be the like quote unquote easiest minutes that he would play. you know, you’re going against the bench like, yeah, it’s not center. You’re going against another backup. Like, it could be easier minutes than, you know, he’d play with the starters. I agree. I think that the non-kitch minutes are going to be the biggest litmos test for David Alerman as a coach because if he just has to find a way to make those minutes at least almost not negative like that that’s that’s the low bar for me. He just needs to figure it out because he has a deeper team. He has team filled in with veterans who are not too old of veterans. We’re not talking, you know, about Jeff Green. We’re not talking about Russell West. We are talking about guys who are more or less in their primes. So, they need to figure it out. We know Michael Malone was never willing to figure it out. I think he could have if he wanted to to look out of the box a bit more, but he just wouldn’t ever. Uh, but David Alman has to figure it out. Unless he does it, it’s going to be a failure uh by him and by front office, honestly. like it’s going to be a failure by the team if they get another year of huge especially with this talent and and and this depth like that honestly out of all the things on David Adelman’s plate fixing the bench might be number one. It might be clearly the number one priority he should have. It absolutely is. And the crazy thing is is that um there’s so many ways the the things that he has to balance this year is figuring out if the two three young guys have progressed far enough that they should receive playing time over some of the vets that they brought in and then also just making the bench better which probably means playing all of the veterans that they just got. And then, you know, you start to worry about or question like the Julian Strawther and Payton Watson, where those guys necessarily fit in. Spencer Jones, there’s like a weird log jam at the 34. Um, and it’s all mostly, you know, young player versus vet. So, I’m like really really interested to see how that plays out because, you know, you have to kind of figure out like what the most important thing, you know, I don’t know. I’m it. It’s going to be fascinating stuff. Absolutely fascinating stuff. Yeah. I like a lot of Cam Joic minutes, too, because they have never played together. I would I would prefer the maximum amount of C, even though like he’s probably would be pretty good independent of Jokic. Like, we’ve actually seen him do really good in Joic. I got I need to share a quick story. I’m uh I’m in Phoenix. I’m helping them. We’re setting up a new studio and creating a mural for them. And I asked everybody to send images that they thought were important to tell the story of Phoenix sports, Arizona sports, you know, throughout the history like we have at DNVR. And Gerald on the on the Sun Show sent me a photo of Cam Johnson. I was like, man, I’m confused. Why are you sending me a a photo of Nugget starter Cam Johnson? I’m trying to make a mural about the the about the Suns. I’m confused. Yeah, they still love him here. So that’s that’s the state of the Suns for you. It like kill Yeah. It’s like that painful for them that he’s coming to the Nuggets, which makes it all the sweeter. So I’m with you. Let’s play a lot of Cam Johnson. Yeah. Uh thanks for coming on, Andrew. Always good to hear from you, man. Thanks. Appreciate it, guys. Yeah, dude. All right, let’s go to our next caller. Um Oh my god, it’s Adam. Oh, what uh what’s up? What’s going on, guys? I’m out here on a boat. Oh my god. I believe in Canadian waters. Adam looks like we’re really going around uh around the world today. Adam looks like Bear Grills, but like after after he had to do a segment where he drank his own pee. That’s what it’s like out here in nature. Eric, you wouldn’t know anything about it. We are whailing at the moment. We’re keeping our eyes peeled for any whales that we might see. Seals. whales, sea otterters, you know. This is uh this is an amazing look for you, man. I will say you look great. Can you sing a sea shanty? Like a song for whale whaling whalers? Sing us a sea shanty, please. My name literally means the sea. So, this feels like my natural habitat. Okay. I believe we are spotting some whales at the moment. Um, but I can’t see them. Adam, what do uh what would you say the people you’ve encountered in the upper peninsula of Washington and lower Canada, what are their thoughts on um the Nuggets additions to the bench this season? And what are people up there saying about uh the Serbia’s chances in Eurob basket? No. Yeah, we have seen harbor seals and the stellar sea lion as well. Nice. So, a little bit of everything out here on the high seas. Good stuff. All right, man. Glad glad you’re doing well. Absolutely. Great stuff. Glad the vacation’s going well. Yeah. Glad I could update you guys. Uh good stuff. All right. Uh let us know if uh any big developments out in the ocean are going down. You please. Yeah. Keep us updated on that ocean, please. Shave next time when you come on the show. That That’s actually a good point. I have never seen Adam with any resemblance of facial hair. That was He looked except right then. He looked as close to homeless as I’ve ever even imagined Adam. And I think it was a great look on him. I don’t know how to square that. Like I think maybe Adam should become unho unhoused. Unhoused. Um we got somebody else ready to come on. Let’s go, dude. The legend himself. Let me guess. Hey, let’s go. 5555ish on the show. Good to see you, man. Yo, what’s up? Nothing. Just uh just talking nuggets. Yo, I got the Miros live, too. What a day. I know. Yeah, we uh we were like, what should we talk about today? Oh, we we should preview Eurob Basket. Let’s have let’s have the homie on. Yeah. And then we also have to preview whatever’s going on in 5555ish’s life. Those are the two things we had to get for sure done on the show today. That was on that was on the docket for Friday. So we’re we’re checking both off that list. That part is probably way less exciting than what Euro Basket’s doing. But thank you. Oh, I’m Yeah. Well, I mean, we’ll leave that up to the people to decide, but um how you been, man? What have you been up to this off seasonason? I’ve been good. just relaxing, chilling, just doing my usual stuff. Kind of kind of a mundane thing, but I’m with like I echo Dline sentiments completely when I’m like I’m ready for basketball to start up. I’m I’m totally ready. I’ve been left up to my own devices. It turns out I have nothing to offer the world. Zero. Not one thing. I go home, I’m like, uh, I should and then I’m like, and then I watch again Tik Tok and eat popcorn. Like tomorrow, guys, Nikolish plays tomorrow. Literally. Well, allegedly allegedly this time it’s going to be broadcasted. Come on. Yeah. 5555ish. I’m curious. What are your thoughts on graphic gate that Miruslav brought to the surface where he he believes that the graphic illustrating Nikolic’s 2019 and n effort against Bosnia was completely fabricated 100%. Not based in reality at all. You know, I actually I love this theory because if I put myself into that person’s shoes and I had to make up a Jokic stat line just to throw out into the ether, those are really similar numbers I would throw out. Dave, it’s even a Sombor double. I mean, come on. That actually that makes it even more suspicious. The fact that it was a Sombor double makes it more likely that it did not happen in my opinion. It’s like it’s like too clever. It’s like too on the nose. I wonder it’s it’s almost like if you like like hey if you asked Google AI what did Yokic what do you think Joic averaged in this behind claws game and then it spit out all those numbers. The most likely outcome. Oh my god. You’re right. This is terrible. I like the theory though. What are um there’s no box score. I know. I I mean, yeah, this is this is explicitly word of mouth that we’re getting. He could have had a 0020 game. We we will we will never know what happened. What truly happened. Yeah. Yeah. It it is I mean, good thing the uh the Greece game will be televised, but yeah, we’ll verify. We’ll keep our own box score. We can’t obviously trust the international community to uphold the standards of graphics that we here in the United States hold dear and true. you got a a questionish that that you’ve been thinking about or or anything else for us? You know, the last time we we’ve talked was actually a week before the trade deadline, which is crazy. And all this time has passed and it’s like I just still can’t believe how different this team is now. And like you know I was like you know it was all the the whole thing about uh the Kronis hiring from within all the pessimism behind nothing’s really going to change like I understand all that because we’ve literally seen it the entire Nuggets like their entire like history basically. And then I’m actually I remember this moment. I’m listening to your uh dra I’m listening to your trade deadline pod live while I’m driving home and and you’re like you’re like man this jelly bean segment is thrilling. Yes. I’m like oh man it’s like we’re in the dog days of if we’re doing this and it’s like all of a sudden the porter news dropping. I’m like oh my god. And then like I started to like rush home. I started driving really fast home. Yeah. It was like I I still just can’t believe how different this team is now. And I’m like I’m totally ready for this season to start, dude. Totally, man. And it is also crazy when you step back and think about how different this team is. Something else from that uh young man in the three podcast was Cam Johnson had this quote and he said um he was talking about like how he hasn’t been in the playoffs like the last couple years with the Nets and how that has really killed him. and he had this quote and he said, “Playoff basketball is what you live for.” And I heard that and I was like, “God, this guy is like this this guy’s about all the right things.” I’m I’m just like so excited to to um to watch Cam Johnson. Like I that that quote got me fired up. It really it really just does feel like um we are setting up for what should be a very exciting season because there are we haven’t had for a while so many questions heading into a season, you know, and questions that are like that seem to have been answered in a like a a clever uh thinking man’s way, you know, we’re not just like hoping something gets better. It’s like ah that actually makes a whole lot of sense. like I just can’t wait to see this all come together. So, uh 55 55 55ish. I have the most important question for you. Um I don’t know if you have any other question for us, but this is the important question for you. What are we throwing our support behind? What are we chasing this season? Have you thought about it? What is the 555 quest? And I don’t want to put you on the spot. Maybe you haven’t thought about it. Maybe there’s something that needs to reveal itself to you. Do you have any early thoughts on what we’re going to be chasing as a collective this year? Okay, here I I’ll I’ll drop the preview since you asked about I I I’ve actually thought about this and I’m still working out the details and maybe you guys can like help me out with this. This is non-committ this for everybody listening. This is not committed. He’s not committing to anything. I’ve been bouncing around the idea of having the fives player of the game. And what it what you might ask, what does that mean? It means I look at the box score and I try to find as many fives as I can. And if you have the most fives, you win. Or if you have exactly five fives, you automatically win. Holy smokes. So So the like, holy cow, I got to wrap my head around this. So basically, you’re just there’s not like a chase that’s happening the whole year. It’s just every game we figure out who the top five the high but then by the end of the season it could somebody would have the most fives from the season. Well, the can we we’ll call it the high fives obviously. Who’s got the who’s got the high in fives? This guy has five fives. Wow. He receives the high five of the night. And we do a Holy smokes. Uh, this is I, you know, I can’t I can’t decide if it’s cool at all, but it also might be the greatest thing that’s ever happened. And but then I also wonder the the other question is where does Hunter Tyson wearing number five factor into this as well? Does he don’t think a jersey number appears in the box score? I don’t think at least it doesn’t. You might you might be correct. I feel like it starts with the jersey number. I’ll have to look at it again. Yeah, come on. This is why we’re in the preliminary stage. Okay. Well, it’s a good tease. You haven’t done a good Yeah. You’re not ready for it. It’s You come to us with a halfbaked idea at best. Is next time do better. We need you to come in a little bit more fully formed. This is a very popular program. You can’t just come in here willy-nilly. I was going to add on to it that I you can keep track of how many times someone wins the award. Yeah, dude. And I was going to keep track of that. Yes. And if I wanted to be really ambitious, I could keep track of every five every player accumulates throughout the entire season. I mean, it’s and then throw it into a graphic or I mean it’s it’s up to you, man. It’s up to you. Yeah. I mean, like what we’re Yeah. We’re not Listen, we have no control over this. We’re just curious what’s going to happen. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. That’s the That’s the preview though. So, or that that’s the preview possibly. Hey, that’s that’s a great tease. That’s I’m I’m intrigued now. That it worked on me. I I’m into it. Yeah, I mean, too. All right, man. Well, good to hear from you. Hope you’re doing well and uh we’ll talk soon. Yep. See y’all later and I’ll see Mirislav on Servian Corner. I’m I’ll tune in to the post game probably to that game. Oh, yeah. Just don’t don’t forget tomorrow at at 2 pm mountain time serving corner. Way better show than what this I would do it at what do it at do it at 1:55. I’m I’m gonna have Grace on the show. I’m gonna have Andy D. All right. All right. And I’m gonna have the show. You know who I’m going to have? I’m gonna have James from the AllNBA show on the show. Yeah. Producer James. Wow. What a man. Yeah, I’m I’m cornering uh uh Tim Leggler, you know, to come to the show. So, I’m just going to bring all of his friends. Stop trying to big time us on our own show, please. Sorry. All right. Thanks for Thanks for coming on, man. Good to see you. Yep. Have a great weekend, guys. See you. Uh we got to end end the show. I know we had Cody waiting to come on. We had Cedric waiting to come on. We’ll get to you guys next week for sure.
