Full Day of Training as a Pro Basketball Player– Skill Workout, Pro Open Gym, Weights
[Music] Today’s video is going to be a little different than most my videos. It is a day in the life in the offseason as a pro basketball player. This time I’ve got my man Mick. And you guys are probably used to me filming everything on my own. We’re going to try something a little different. See if I can get comfortable not filming my own thing and and and talking to you guys as I go through my day. So, we got a really cool day, really busy day planned ahead. We have first a shooting workout, then we have an open gym, like pro run open gym. There’s going to be a lot of highle guys there. And then we’re going to finish the night with a lift. And we’re also just going to kick it the whole day. And uh should be really fun. I’m stoked on it. And let’s get this day going. [Music] This is something I’ve started adding to my morning routine. Um I normally work out like completely fasted. I guess I mean it’s scientific way to talk about it, but normally just don’t eat anything in the morning. It’s just a cup of coffee and some water, but I saw a lot of performance athletes that were taking these like carbohydrate drinks before their workouts and saying how much better they feel. So, I got this one. It’s got, let’s see, 140 grams or 140 calories per serving and let’s see, 36 gram of carbs. So, you know, I do two scoops um one serving. Um, and I’ve noticed a huge difference in how I feel because it’s like quick release energy and it’s like you don’t realize how bad you were feeling until you’re feeling good. And so just having that little energy in the tank has absolutely like helped me work out way stronger in the mornings. So if you do morning hoop workouts, I highly recommend getting some sort of carbohydrate drink. And then I also have my my morning vitamin stack. I got a little vitamin D and then a little multivitamin, magnesium, omega-3s. We got a shooting workout this morning because we have an open gym afterwards. It’s going to be all three-point shooting. I got my brother Mitch coming. He’s a a six-year pro as well. Played in Turkey last year. Uh, also he also shot like 45 from three last year. So, we’ll make sure he doesn’t outshoot me in this workout. Mark my words. But it should be it should be good. Probably about 60 to 70 minutes. That’s like the length of time I like to keep my workouts in the morning. Um, don’t want to just overkill it, but you want to be pretty pretty concise and concentrated. Kind of set the tone for the day. So, should be good, man. First workout of the day. Let’s do it. Yeah. Hey, 8 hour flight. We just landed in STO. Came a long way from smoking nicks and rocking echo. Sprinted to the teicopter room. Make sure it’s penthouse. 30 floors up. Could see the world from out this window. Mickey threw the ball about 30 yards and never in juke/ween. Dropping buckets like a sicko. She got wet right off the she. A big thing we worked on in this workout is what’s called move stacking. So, we start with a single move, then we add a counter to that, and then we kind of keep adding counters on top of that. So, you have your base move, and then there’s the next layer, and then layer after that. And it’s something that I’ve really started to do a lot as I’ve kind of advanced in my career. It gives you a lot of options. Like, you’re not stuck in one move. You’ve you’ve done counters before. So, a lot of people will say, “Yeah, rep out the same move, you know, for 40, 50 minutes.” Uh, I feel like you can rep out the same sort of starter move and then just add layers to it. And that’s essentially repping the same move, but again, it’s kind of this idea of stacking on top of it. And then in any morning workout, the goal is to make shots. And that’s why we made it competitive today. And it definitely adds an added element of fun and you know competing against your brother. Put it on for the camera. In the shooting competition, I went 84 against Mitch. I don’t think he was locked in for the first 20 minutes, so I got him early. So yeah, now after uh we’re getting some lunch and then we’re heading to open gym. You see we got got the Chipotle bowl for me. If I’m going to get quick food, I’m going to try and get something like Chipotle. A lot of nutrients, fuel up, and then we got Yeah, like I said, open gym at 1:00. It’ll be super fun. I’m excited. Let’s keep this day rolling. At this point in the summer, I’m in the I guess work period of the summer where I’m going as hard as I can. It’s about three or four weeks and this is like the three or four weeks when I’m really trying to get better. I have another video where I kind of outline my rationale on how I structure my offseason. The morning skill workouts are great, but they need to translate to in-game movement, in-game comfortability, and just all out better performance in the game. And so these open gyms are a great time to experiment, try new things. Overall, it’s nice to kind of be in the gym with other people that are in the exact same industry as you, in the exact same mindset as you, and you know, striving for that same goal to to elevate, right? Well, that’s a good passer, too. Got everything. [Music] Hey, I refuse to let a bad night ruin me. Just doesn’t get through to me. Even back then, getting stopped by the truency with the turn into a mutiny. One of them and then we handled it brutally. Y not sick got immunity and lacking things reach a new high when I started removing things I had to drop the baggage out the plane before I blew a wing or let the engine fail in hell I let a pest prevail and put them to the test and let the pressure scale yeah that’ll do it that’ll separate the weak from the real getting to it I did it for the love but got no love for what I did so that’s why I’m moving different playart but sometimes it’s like I’m missing script. I write my own cuz nobody tell it like it is. Yeah. Nobody going to tell it like it is. Nobody going to tell it like it is. So I’ll be showing them the way. Living by example. Put my life on display. Put me in the game. Watch them make a play. Live life for the day. Sun shining through the grave. Hey, so I’ll be showing them the way. Living by example. Put my life on. Put me in the game. Watch. Ball’s going in the hoop. I’m out of shape. Not used to playing five and five. This is I think the second time all summer I played five on five. But you know, three games, three wins. They’re going to see this this uh video and they’re going to hate. They’re going to hate this smile. So yeah, just winning games. That’s what I do. I’m a waiter. Let’s keep rolling. I leave them in the dust and stack bread cuz I’m moving things. Speed reach a new high. When I started removing things, I had to drop the baggage out the plane before I blew a wing. I let the engine fail. They inhale. I let a pest prevail and put them to the test and let the pressure scale. Yeah, that’ll do it. That’ll separate the weak from the real it. I did it for the love but got no love for what I did. So that’s why I’m hoping different play. But sometimes it’s like I’m missing a script. I write my own cuz nobody’s going to tell it like it is. Yeah. No. Nobody tell it like it is. So I’ll be showing them the way. Living by example. Put my life on display. Put me in the game. Watch them make a play. Live life for the day. Sun shining through the grave. Hey, so I’ll be showing them the way. Living by example. Put my life on display. Put me in the game. Watch them make a play. Living life for the day. Sunshining through the grave with what you say. I’m steaming out the Got my brother standing next to me. I put some diamonds in the ring. Add some to the go and show them what you got. Never stop at what you say. I’m steaming out the pot. Got my brother standing next to me. I’ll pass my boys. Put some diamonds in the chain. Add some numbers to the go and show them what you got. Never stop. [Music] So I’ll be showing them the way. Living by example. Put my life on display. Put me in the game. Watch them make a play. Live a life for the day. Sun shining through the grave. Hey, living by example. Put my life on display. Put me in the game. Watch. [Music] What you say? I’m steaming out the pot. Got my brother standing next to me. I’ll pass my boys. Put some diamonds in the ring. Super interesting. in the offseason as a pro is like you got this constant pressure or like anticipation for the upcoming season. And as an overseas pro, most of the guys, myself included, sign one-year contracts. Uh I think I’ve signed one multi-year contract. That’s kind of the nature of I guess the business. I’m happy now because I have found where I’m playing next year. I signed the contract. I’ll be in Lithuania um for Le Cabellis. I gota I got to start nailing that name. Um but they also play Euro Cup. So if you want like a bigger picture of overseas basketball, the highest international competition is Euro League. The second is Euro Cup. Some argue that basketball Champions League is comparable, but yeah, it’s just been incredible. like I signed uh the Lee Cabela fans like I’ve gotten so many messages on and and just wishing me well for the upcoming season and it’s just really nice like I’m I’m excited to see how different cultures, you know, approach basketball and like approach supporting their team. So, I’ve heard the fans are rowdy and that the gym sells out frequently. So, I’m just I’m just really excited, man. And uh it also gives me a little peace too to know what the next step is for next season. And I feel like it was the right one. And so I’m stoked on it. Strawberries going right there. Strawberries, blueberries, um tomatoes. Where’s our pepper? Look. Look at our little pepper. We got one pepper growing. Little tomato there. Forget what these other are. It’s probably not you doing this. No, I don’t know. Hey. Hey. I was very involved with our garden last summer. This summer not quite as involved. I do this all day with this guy. He would never stop. he would literally never ever stop. I think yeah, the off season the biggest thing is there’s two goals. It’s like one enjoy your time. Like you only have so much time with family. So it’s like in like be fully present for that and it’s hard not to like think about the season um while you’re doing that. So you it’s it’s weird because you have to relax, but you also have to stay relatively in shape. And I still I’m I believe I’m still getting better. Um some people are like, “Oh, you’re you can only get better for so many.” I’m someone that constantly I’m trying to improve. So even in the summers, like if I feel like I’m not doing the things that are making me and setting me up for success the next season, then I’m kind of off. Um so that’s the two things. enjoy it and and and keep improving. So, I woke up from my nap. Definitely tired as can be. So, I’m going to call an audible. I was going to do a vertical power lift. That was on the schedule for today, but I’m going to call the audible. Switch it up. A little less intense. It’s going to be a feet balance and core workout. I’m tracking this. I track all my workouts in the offseason. This is like my little workout log. Just a place to track your progress. It’s important, especially in the weight room, to know like the weight you did last time so you can be accurate and see progress, stuff like that. So, that’s what we’re going to go do right now. I’m fueling up real quick with some more carbohydrates in the same way I did this morning before the workout. Um, and then I got some of these little protein rice cakes. 22 grams of protein in these is kind of insane. So, I got my carbs, my proteins, and then huge thing of water. So, yeah, this work, this lift should only be like 30 minutes. Again, it’s an easier one, and that’s on purpose. MTV cribs right here. Today we did a lot of work on our feet and our balance. Um, we started with weighted mobility. We did some vssit reaches as well as some weighted pigeon stretches. Essentially, this just adds another element to these stretches. Allows you to get into a little deeper range of motion. Then we did some low back work with some back extensions and some dead hangs. Just kind of decompressing that low back. Again, we did a lot of volume today, so it’s trying to give back to the body. To start, we did some foot planks and reverse lunges with reach. The foot plank is essentially forcing your arch to stabilize the rest of your foot. Then the reverse lunge is getting that soass interaction um in that extended range. Then we did some uh some big toe diver smashes. These are making your big toe activate. So we worked on our arch and now it’s our big toe controlling our movement in our foot. We combine those with calf raises. Again, your calf and foot relationship is is really kind of important protecting your Achilles and all that lower limb uh stuff down there. Um then we did some movement. We did some tip toe walks and some bear crawls. Um the bear crawls really get your foot super flexed when you’re deep in that uh kind of that like crawling position. The tiptoe walks, it’s when your foot is fully uh extended. So kind of reverse of each other. And then to finish kettle bell swings hand to hand, keeping our knees stable, um forcing our foot to be the stabilizer that kind of navigates the the pendulum flow of that uh that weight. And then some kettle bell halos. It’s that same concept, but now you’re in a lunge position. Your front heel is off the ground, which forces your calf and foot to work in kind of in tandem. So again, not an intense day on the body weight room wise, but the court work was so intense that I had to call an Audible, switch it up instead of doing a power lift. So honestly, this is exactly what my body needed after this workout. You should feel better than you did before. And that’s exactly how I feel. All right. Last summer, Major Fitness absolutely changed my offseason training by helping me out with this home gym equipment. Now I don’t got to go to the gym anymore. I just come in my backyard in my garage and I get a workout in. So huge game changer. It’s made me way more consistent in my offseason program and I highly suggest you guys do the same and get yourself a home gym. That’s a little high right here. Why is this not Babe? Are you sure that’s how it’s supposed to close this firing up? There we go. That first attempt was pretty embarrassing. Pretty embarrassing. That was real typical of me, not atypical. No sense. Choke. Oh, he’s grilling. Grill master. I do season the food. I do season the food. Contrary to popular belief, I season my food. It’s a European thing, not a white thing. Oh yeah, that’s probably good. One bird. Probably good. Two birds. Watch. These are going to look terrible. Everyone’s going to be like, “You don’t know how to grill.” You probably don’t know. Uh, okay. Just winging. Just winging. Come on, dude. I’m showing you the American experience. Man, that was a uh exhausting day to say the least. A lot of work. Um, I hope that it gave you guys kind of like a behind thescenes feel um to my offseason training program. I hope you guys maybe learned something, maybe are inspired by how I work, but I just appreciate you guys tuning in. I like what we’re growing over here at Atypical. If you want um either the shooting workout that I did this morning or the um foot balance workout, I will make a free PDF. Uh the link will be in the description. You can get that um completely free. Sign in, type your email, all good. And uh yeah, that’s basically what a day in the life looks like in the offseason with a pro basketball player. Appreciate you guys tuning in and as always, get uncomfortable and live atypical. Cheers. [Music] Wish I can make it easier. I can. [Music]

You should add some electrolytes pre workout with your carbs if training fasted. Notably sodium. It will help you stay hydrated during the workout since you haven’t eaten yet. I tend to cramp, so sodium pre and sometimes during is a must. Magnesium and potassium are also needed but yell post workout

The cinematic style is fire! To me it was a little bit distracting sometimes (like when you were talking during the skill workout I were caught by the visual rather than what you were saying) but the video is still great🔥
Man, I love your content and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that you look 100% like Goose from Top Gun with that fine fine mustache 🤩🤩
I hope will see you playing at some point in Greece. As a basketball coach in the academies of a team in the first league of the country , i have made my suggestion for you as a player 🤣

Big question!!! So what’s the lifestyle like? Like I know you and your wife are willing to travel and live where you play basketball. But what does your wife do? Does she find a job where ever you go?
Éxito en Lietkabelis Trey! 👍🏻🏀
