Bulls & Josh Giddey Rumored To End Contract Standoff With 3 Year Deal Worth $65-70 Million

Bulls & Josh Giddey Rumored To End Contract Standoff With 3 Year Deal Worth $65-70 Million

Are Josh Giddy and the Chicago Bulls ready to finally end their standoff? Well, Brett Seagull would have us believe so. We’re going to talk about that in the rumored deal for Josh Giddy. Plus, the Bulls are bringing back pinstripes. Is it the right type of nostalgia? We’re going to talk about all that and more on today’s Locked on Bulls. You are Locked on Bulls, your daily Chicago Bulls podcast, part of the Locked On Network. your team every day. Thank you for tuning in to Lockdown Bulls, member of the Lockdown Podcast Network, where it’s your team every single day. That’s Pat, the designer, host and creator of the Windy City Breeze and host of the Chicago Bears podcast over at ESPN 1000. Pat, the Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddy have been in a standoff, and and Brett Seagull released yesterday that the Bulls and Giddy are expected to agree on a three-year deal and that analysts expected to be anywhere between 65 to $70 million. That puts it at about 22 to $23 million annually for three years. When you hear that deal, how do you feel? The Bulls win. I I don’t I don’t know. Like I I feel like Giddy’s kind of getting screwed here, but also as far as like team building and stuff like that goes, you are, excuse me, in the I guess in a better position to go out and do stuff because you’re saving the money. Like it’s that’s a weird one for me. And I I think you know kind of the conversation we had yesterday on who’s right in this um it almost feels like clearly Josh Giddy is getting screwed over in this situation but it could be a win for the team as a whole in the long run. Um he is winning in one sense though he gets three years on the deal which means that he will be 25 by the time the deal ends up uh ends up being over with. And so if if you ball out on this contract, you still got a great opportunity to go out there and get the the next big contract under your name. Um, and I think that that’s a that’s being able to hit free agency essentially if he wants to three times in your 20s. Yeah. Is never a bad situation for you to be in. And if the Bulls are going to acquies to a three-year deal, you you’re going to have to pay him heavily if he balls out over those next three years. But then maybe you’re a little bit more willing to once that time comes. Yeah. And I think that what this does for the Bulls is clear. Like you’re getting a player in Josh Giddy that came in, he’s only played one season under you. He really woke up on that last latter part, last third of the season. Um, and you’re getting that on a more reasonable contract. But the place to where it could come back on them is that all right, I wasn’t even asking for the max on this deal. You gave me less than that. Yeah. If Josh Giddy does ball out on this contract over those three years, he probably isn’t giving anything back to the team at that point. Unless the team I I do think that Josh Giddy has the right mind. If this team does build something that looks like a contender between now and then, I think he may take a little bit less to leave them some room if they need to do so. But best believe he you’re not going to get the same savings that you’re getting on this deal if he ends up balling out. But I think that’s the that’s the difference, right? You’re also not basing it off a half of a season of him doing this. Even though I do believe that, you know, this is just who he is when he’s given this opportunity and a team that that is willing to invest in him like this. Um, you’re basing it off of multiple years probably of him doing this. At that point, maybe Josh Giddy turns into one of the premier point guards in this NBA, one of the top guys in this NBA, and you and you have no choice but to go out there and pay him, and it’s a no-brainer, right? I I think it’s the goal is for you to get in a situation where you’re where Denver is with Jokic where you know financially this is going to be ridiculous when we finally have to pay him. We’re going to pay him but we also understand it’s going to be ridiculous and it’s going to make building a team harder and it’s going to make things a lot more difficult here for Denver which is why I have to be on my P’s and Q’s but we’re gonna pay them. So, I do think it’s kind of one of those if he bowls out, you have no problem giving him the money. You just haven’t I I guess their argument is you didn’t do it for more than a half a season or certain spurts in OKC. I I get, you know, trying to save money on that end. I get Giddy one of his 30 million though. This was one of those like I thought this was an obvious meet in the middle contract situation because you can see who’s right on both sides. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you can see the validity from both sides and you just got to get it and ultimately I’m glad that they got a deal done. Well, they haven’t yet. If they get this deal done, I’m going to be glad that they got a deal done and then you can just focus on the offseason. Giddy’s already putting in work. I don’t know if you saw the workout video uh that he did, but it was Dyson Daniels guarding him and he uh he was giving him some work. So, you know, it’s good to see that Josh Giddy has not let this thrown him off his game. If anything, this should motivate him more because the team that you’re on doubted you. And you know, while the the doubts are valid in certain areas, now go out there and ball out. And Giddy is going to be much like with we’ve said about Kobe, this is also one of the first years that Josh Giddy’s role hasn’t changed. Yeah. He’s going to be able to come in uh hopefully fully healthy. He didn’t start off last season healthy. He didn’t finish last season healthy. I think a lot of times we forget that he had that hand injury since January. That was during the time he was balling out. So, you know, clear mind, uh, you know, healthy body and and now come out and attack it this season. Then hopefully him and Kobe go out and show that this is a back your starting back court of the future and they clear those doubts. If they’re able to do that, great. And my hope isn’t that this happens, but the one thing that I will say is now Josh Giddy becomes one of the most valuable assets on the team. Um a a point guard who can give you triple double every night, who can who can facilitate the ball, who’s still incredibly young on a $22 million deal, which basically in this NBA, what is what is 22 million of the cap? What is that? 12%. Uh no, 13%. I think that’s I think that’s closer to 13%. Hold on. I can look it up real quick. That’s nothing. Like he literally becomes one of the most valuable pieces in the NBA. If ever there is a, and we know how this league goes, disgruntled superstar or a disgruntled player where you go, uh, Anthony Edwards says, “You know what? I’m done with Minnesota. I’m sick of the freaking mall.” You know what I mean? I want to go somewhere else where I can have more of a brand and more of a name. I want to go to my daddy’s city. Then all of a sudden you got, hey, y’all want to lightly use Josh Giddy who’s 23 years old and making $22 million and we’ll throw this in. Like all of a sudden it becomes one of those assets where you can go out and make a big move if you want to. Like I think I can I see the logic in what the Bulls did. I think it’s just one of the it doesn’t feel good, right? It feels like Giddy did enough where he should have earned his money. And that’s really what it comes down to at the end of the day where it’s like you’re paying him you’re probably paying him $3 million more than P will. That’s crazy work. Yeah, that’s a fact. That’s a fact. Um, so just looked it up. Uh, $20 million is right at 13% of the cap. So, it’s probably about 14 and a half%. 30 million. No, I’m saying I’m saying uh for uh you said 20 million is 20 million is 13%. 13%. So 20 he’d be about 20 Well, I mean he’d be about 22. Yeah, you’re looking at about 13 and a half 13 and a half%. Yeah. Yeah. It’s not a bad deal. It’s a great deal. It’s not a bad deal at all. It’s a great deal for the Bulls. Yeah. And for everybody who’s saying, you know, what they paid Patrick Williams, why didn’t they want to pay Giddy? I I not that I don’t understand what you’re basing that off of, but do we want them to learn or don’t we want them to learn? Well, I think the difference is Josh Giddy is a much better You paid Patrick Williams on what he could have been. Yes. And then he immediately told you he wasn’t. where where I think it’s it’s different is we understand it from the giddy negotiating standpoint. I wouldn’t sign a deal where I’m playing and making a little bit more than this dude who absolutely sucks. But like I said before, there’s also not a ton of options for Josh Giddy in this whole thing because this may be what it is. Like if you end up being a 14 8 and 8 guy, these are probably deals you’re going to be looking at moving forward. This may be kind of where your range is. Now you got to go out there and prove that you are more than that. And here’s the big thing. This is basically if they do sign a three-year deal, which is rumored to be. He’s playing on two of that before we talking about renegotiate. Like that’s really what like I well I don’t know. AK do let dudes get in the last year of their deals. But usually if he balls out right, he’s playing on two of those before you go into that third year and say, “All right, we going to restructure. We going to get an extension worked out. We going to figure something out coming into this last season.” So, it’s not like it’s 10 years down the road and he’s going to have to play on this this deal. That’s a good point that I hadn’t even thought of yet is that you can restructure the last year of a deal, right? you can because you can increase you can’t you can’t reconstruction rec reconstruct the contract and take less. So that’s typically uh technically if Josh Giddy balls out for the next two years the Bulls can renegotiate before going into year three and at that point they can add four more years to the contract. So two years it could be before you have a little bit of leverage there. So yeah. Yeah. And good point Pat. The the biggest goal is go out there and play ball well. Yeah, play ball well, you win games of itself. If he goes out there and ball, everything, all the questions and everything subsides. If he get goes out there and what would you say, Pat? Even if he if he ends up being 80% of what he finished the season with, that’s more than worth 30 million. Now, I hope that it’s more than that, but I’ll be honest with you. I think I think the the value goes into what you make everybody else, right? Like, if Giddy ends up being what he what what was his season averages? He was about 148 and eight something like 148 and seven. 14.6. 6. Let’s say 158 and seven on 46% shooting from the field. I think he shot his careerhigh 37% from the three-point line. If Josh Giddy ends up being that and those seven assists are adding seven points to Modest point total. Mhm. Yeah. He’s helping Modis Bisellas be the player that he is. You want to keep that pairing together. That helps. That earns you money. Those are the things where it’s like the stuff where you don’t look at it and you go, “This is crazy. How can he make this money? Yes, but he’s making everybody else better. That’s why Drew Holiday got paid cuz he was going out there for everybody on the defensive side of the ball. For sure. For sure. Yeah, he made everybody else better. So So, but we’re going to continue the conversation. We’re going to be talking about the Bulls bringing back the pinstripes. But first, we got to get to a message from game time. Have you ever decided at the last minute to head to a ball game with friends or family, if it’s a Socks game, is still cheap? [Music] All right, Pat. So, the Chicago Bulls, I’m wearing the hatu for I see already there. Monarch money. Help this man. I had this before. This is to go with a different jacket. Um, the Chicago Bulls are bringing back the red pinstripes. They rolled this out, Pat. And I know you’re going to I know you picked up on this. Modest and Kobe were the were the two guys that that they used to announce this as well as you go into nostalgia with Dennis Robin. I love that Dennis has been slowly but surely more and more used by the Chicago Bulls on things because for a while there he was kind of like he was the stepchild. We he didn’t come back to Chicago. Those type of things. Uh I think each of the last three years we’ve used him in some shape, form or fashion. Uh Pat, how do you feel about the red pin stripes coming back? I mean listen um it’s the 72 and 10 season. Yeah. Go out there and win. Don’t suck at them. Yeah. Like I love I love you bringing them back, but it’s like, “Hey, go out there and show out.” Like I I don’t think When’s the last time we wore pinstripes? Probably. Didn’t Derek have pinstripes? Mhm. Was there a pinstripe jersey with Derek? Like another team that went out there and won? You know what I mean? Like, hey, the pinstripes mean something to me in this city. And and I think the um I love the fact that you’re bringing them back. Uh I love the fact that um it’s one of my favorite Bulls jerseys of all time. Unless you see somebody with a full fit. You ever seen somebody like just walking around with the pinstripes? That is the jersey and the shorts. That’s diabolical. You’re a wild boy. You You put some regular pants on with that jersey, bro. That that’s that’s nuts. But outside of that, man, I I it’s one of my favorite jerseys in Bulls history, and I’m I’m glad that uh you know that they that they’re bringing it back. Just don’t make them look bad. That’s all you can really do. So, uh I I I like the the And I mean, it’s the same statement jerseys. They just had white pin stripes. They changed them to red. is basically the same. It’s it’s it’s it’s it looks good. Like it it looks better. It’s nostalgic. And I think for the Bulls, like we we have of course been a franchise that’s been accused of using nostalgia uh in the wrong way for jerseys and things like it’s and a lot of teams around the NBA are doing a lot of teams have made their statement jerseys versions or remixes of former some of the best jerseys from their history. Yeah, it’s not a problem. No, I don’t have a problem with it. I do I do think that listen, the Bulls do use the nostalgia. I mean, the Ring of Honor was all the nostalgia stuff. I mean, the By the way, we haven’t done one of those since uh since that first one, have we? Did we just We We’re done with Rings of Honor, huh? We haven’t really done a Ring of Honor since that first one. Well, no, cuz remember they said it’s every three years. Oh, okay. Okay. I was I was like, we just done? We just Nobody else gets in the ring anymore. It’s like, all right, we good. Um Exactly. But no, we got What do we got next year? Oh, that’ll be hard, too. I wonder if they wear the pinstripes on Derrick Rose retirement night. Oo, probably. I would think that’ be hard. That’ll be hard. That’ll be hard. But uh no, like I the the I I do believe that they’re, you know, try to use nostalgia to try and ease people back in, but like PE we’re past that at this point. There’s an entire generation of people that’s willing to say Michael Jordan’s not that good. Like we’re well past that at this point. Now it’s about what have you done for me lately? And the problem with the Bulls is, I mean, you haven’t done anything in 10 years. You you’ve had one playoff appearance since 2015. Um, and you got clapped and you didn’t you haven’t competed. You haven’t been relevant. I mean, you it hasn’t we haven’t looked like a relevant basketball team since Jimmy Butler walked out that door. Yeah, that’s true. Not at all. Like, I mean, Jimmy Butler’s career is about to be over. Jimmy Butler left here before his Some say it already is. It’s crazy. Some say it already is. Some say it already is. Jimmy Butler left here before he started his prime. His career is about to be over. It’s been a while. It just just start winning. That’s all I care about. Yeah. I mean, and we shall see what happens there. Um Yeah. Overall, like the jerseys are the jerseys. I’m glad that they that they are going to a better look, but as far as relevancy and especially with you bringing up Derrick Rose retirement night, like now it’s going to be like you can’t wear now I don’t want them to wear the pinstripes on Derrick Rose retirement night cuz the last time we saw the red pinstripes we were a playoff team. Don’t don’t do it on Derrick Rose night. Just wear the reds. Just wear the reds, bro. Or wear go old school. Wear them uh remember that first year he came out, they still had their like shiny print jerseys like I don’t was them Adidas or Nikes? Yeah, that was still when Adidas was doing it. It was like they was too bright. It was like, “Oh, why are they reflective?” Like, bro, you know, you know something that’s that people don’t talk enough about too. You remember the sleeve jersey error? I messed with that though. I messed with it as far as wearing it outside the g like wearing it as like gear was cool. It was always awkward on the basketball. It was weird to you on the court. I ain’t going to lie to you. Oh, that is They did a pinstripe on that one, too, didn’t they? That was the That was the other one. had a pinstripe on the sleeve. I don’t remember. I think there was a Wasn’t that if I’m not mistaken, was that the Christmas like the Christmas day? We did have a Christmas sleeve jersey, too. I was more so talking about there was one that we wore when the bull was big in the middle and it was a white bull with a red red sleeve jersey. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I remember that one. I liked I’m I do remember that one, too. I’m sitting here looking at Oh, look at Hold on. I didn’t found this. All the alternate jerseys over the years. Hold on. Let me see if I can bring this on the screen. All right, let’s see. Wow, that that’s that we brought that one back. We did bring that one back. That was fire. That was fire. I love the cursive. We’re bringing that one back right now. Yep. I ain’t going to lie, the white do hit around the edge, though. The white does hit around the edge. You need a cont. Oh my god. That’s the ugliest jersey in history, bro. What was that supposed to be? The Chicago Stags, right? Or something like that. Was that the Stags? Yeah, they were paying homage to the Stags. That’s That’s disgusting. Those were bad. I was I was I messed with the green jerseys. I messed with the green jerseys, but it was like, why are we in Why are we in Celtics colors? And I think we played the Celtics. We played the Celtics that year. Yeah, absolutely. Was diabolical. That’s the Bucks. That one pissed me off. No, but remember we had that before the Bucks, did we? Yes. And then they went to That’s like May, maybe you might be right on that. That’s the one I remember. I love the gray and red. I loved that one. I need more gray and red boys. I ain’t going to lie, bro. I messed with the sleeve jersey. The sleeve jersey was hard, bro. Put a t-shirt on. Get out there and hoop like y’all a regular dude. Uh those were disgusting. Yeah, those were ugly. I didn’t I was not a fan of those. I Those look like uh when you go to Burlington Coat Factory and they be your mama be like, “They got Bulls jerseys here, too.” Like, who’s Mike? Mike didn’t wear 34. Los Bulls. You can’t go wrong with Los Bulls. There’s a lot of these. Oh, Nico. Back when we were happy before the Those were hard. That That was the first City Edition jersey. Those were I love those jerseys. This is terrible podcast content, by the way. Yeah. By the way, come on. Let’s get that off. Yeah, let’s get up out of here. Let’s get up out of here. We getting caught up. YouTubers podcasting. We had a We had a flashback on that one. That we was going down memory lane. That is That was fire though. That was fire though. But uh yeah. Uh like the red pin stripes. Let’s keep it up, man. Let’s keep it up. Uh oh, I got a read, don’t I? Uh before we get to this final topic talking about Dwight, will you stop talking about all the times you would have joined the Chicago Bulls? I don’t know if you saw my post on Twitter, but like I’m taking all these vitamins now and stuff that my doctor got me taking. And he said that it was supposed to help like with energy and keep me sharper, but I don’t know if my body’s just like, “Hey, this is too much healthy stuff, bro. We about to shut down and resettle.” Bro, you need to tie your beef, bro. That was Yeah. Like Like it’s like, “Hey, bro. Where’s the bacon? We eating healthy? What What’s going on here?” Hey, bro. I ain’t going to lie to you. I’ve been trying to get right. I didn’t I didn’t try to give up carbs and all of that, man. Listen, I’m dying over here. I’m dying. Yeah. So, I understand your pain, my brother. I understand your pain. But anyway, last topic of the day. Uh Dwayne Wade once he was interviewed and once again he talked about uh you know what happened with him failing to join the Bulls. What was that? 2008 N 2009. Um in that off season, I think it was 10. I think you’re right. I think it was 10. Um, and he basically said now, and the story changes a little bit every single time, right? Just a little bit. It’s like Dwayne Wade, do you even remember what’s going on? Now, he says that he was set to join the Chicago Bulls and it wasn’t until LeBron called him and it was like, let’s go to Miami. Now, that is directly adverse to what we heard before because what we heard before was that him and LeBron and Bosch were all willing to join the Chicago Bulls, but the Bulls couldn’t trade. Dane like which what is the story here? What’s the I guess both could be true. I guess maybe Dwayne Wade set out and was like, I’m going to go join Chicago. I’m gonna leave Miami. Then maybe LeBron called and it’s like, all right, well, we could still do this in Chicago. And then maybe it changed. It just kept changing at that point in time. But like, I think everybody kind of felt like like LeBron and Dwayne We were going to join forces anyway. But maybe I’m wrong on that one, bro. Listen, here’s my thing. It didn’t happen. Stop talking about it. Leave it alone. Let these mugs, let that conversation die because you went to Miami and you end up He’s talking like he never got a chance to join the Bulls. Like, you did join the Bulls. We did go to the playoffs. Y’all should have won that first round series. Like, it’s it’s done. I don’t care that you didn’t come anymore. Yeah, it’s done. I don’t care that you didn’t pull up to Chicago. I don’t care that you didn’t win here. I don’t You want to know why? Because I can’t go back and change it. So, like, let’s just let it die. And I get it. He’s answering a question that a that a interviewer asked him. So, I understand him. But like to the interviewers, let’s stop asking about well, what happened when you didn’t go to Chicago? When you didn’t come to Chicago, my boy. Um like yeah, I don’t care. I like at this point like we’re over a decade removed from it. I don’t care. I like it it it when you did get here like he had some really good games in the Bulls jersey. Make no mistake about it. But the thing that the lasting memory I have of Dwayne Wade in the Bulls jersey is a you got Cristiana Felicio paid cuz those damn Ali oops and then you long-term recruited Jimmy Butler to the to the Miami Heat. I don’t have very fond memories of that. So like let’s let’s just move on. They should have won that first round series though. Well, they would have if Rondo didn’t go down. Rondo didn’t go there. I ain’t gonna lie to you. And they was they was balling. And bro, playoff. It was playoff Jimmy, bro. Hold up. How far could we have gone in that playoffs with a playoff Jimmy? If we would have made it past that first round series, bro. No, no, no doubt. I think we could have made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. What is that? 2015? No, I don’t think we win. No, I don’t think we win. But I think we had a case to try to make it there. 15 was Derek. Okay, it was 2015. Uh NBA playoffs 2015. I got to see how this Well, Jesus, that’s when the Warriors run started. Okay. And we definitely wouldn’t have won. Uh and we would have went up against LeBron. Yeah. I don’t think I don’t know. I don’t think we make it. I think we make it past I think I think we would have got one more round. Who would have played Who would have played in the second round? Do you have the brackets up? Uh that’s what I’m looking at now. In the second round, we would have played the Pacers. I think we could have made it past the Pacers in the second round. Maybe playoff Jimmy and playoff. Keep in mind, that’s when Rondo in the playoffs was like some playoff Rondo. Yeah, playoff Rondo. Rondo was legit. It could have been It could have been wild, bro. It could have been wild. It could have been wild. Uh, I’m trying to see. Okay. Is this the bracket? Okay, first round is What the heck is this thing talking about? All right, don’t worry about it. Just give me a bracket. Jesus Christ. It’s like trying to punch somebody stress pad out. It has It’s It’s irritated my soul now. Like I I don’t even care anymore. Like we didn’t make it. Oh, here we go. All right. Yeah, we would have played the Washington Wizards in the second round. Washington Wizards in the second round. Yeah, we played Washington. Was that Was that after Gil? Was Gil gone at that point? Uh, yes. That that that was after that was John Wall because Oh, yeah. That was that was absolutely Yeah. Yeah. That was It had to be Derek. Yeah. Derrick Rose is in there. Uh, so that would that would have been a John Wall Wizards. That did go seven. That did go seven, but I think Boston really underperformed in that series. Uh, and then we would have played Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Finals and then Golden State started they started their stuff. know, even I’m glad we didn’t we didn’t uh uh get our hopes up on that, but we could have had ECF and we probably would have kept Fred Hoyberg. We could cut Fred. Probably would have kept Jimmy. That trade wouldn’t have went down. Um would have, could have, should have in that point. Pat, anything left before we get up out of here, brother? 1. 🔥
    Ronda went down
    And Jimmy didn't step up
    Against the Celtics

    Jimmy just don't have it

So No Bulls would not have won nothing

  2. Maaan WTH are yall talking about he getting exactly what he deserve, talking about he getting screwed when we was a play-in team that lost at that with him!!!! We been in the play in the last two years before Giddy weak ass came here and now he work 30ms a year for some last months performance when we were at the bottom of the league and just barely made the play-in…are yall slow or sumn??? I swear people who talk about sports all day have the lowest iqs😭😭😭 Josh getting what he worth and if he can prove his value more in playoff contention not no damn seasonal stats that leave us a play-in team bounce in the first round or two then he can talk about a bag but for yall to be gassing this night like he supposed to be getting paid or should have a grudge for that mediocre ass performance is exactly why this team weak asl!

  3. Wade was never come here back then he was using us until they got the books right for Chris Bosh i was told from a close source & Wade publisher said the is Rose town & Wade would not want to be the 3rd wheel smh

  4. I wish there was a way we could get Chimezi Metu as like a last guy off the bench spot. He can help with defending the rim and fits our style of play

  5. If this is the contract that Bulls end up getting done I would be extremely proud of this front office because this would truly show signs of becoming an intelligent FO

  6. You have the chance to resurrect this iconic franchise, a franchise that hasn't been to the finals in 27 years after being there 6 times in 8 years and we're talking about him getting screwed because of a few less million? People are so short sighted that they can't see what he stands to gain if he's able to be a part of something special. Players used to get paid for production, not potential…even MJ said something to that effect. I've been a Bulls fan for 35+ years, I'm Australian and loved what JG did last season…that all said I want the team to make the best deal to give them the leverage for another move next off season. If JG does something in the next 3 years best believe he'll get his pay day. It's not like he won't be making $$$ in deals outside of basketball. If any fan expects us to do anything of note next season they're delusional, it's not about next season it's about 2 or 3 years from now. Next year is all about development and showing the league we have a young core worth joining.

  7. Pay PW and extra 8milion. Then Pay Giddey 8 million less. Then there on the same. Should sign for 1 season. Then get out of there. Complete but case Chicago bulls.
