Golden State Warriors Trading Jonathan Kuminga for Josh Giddey Is PERFECT, Here’s Why!
Guys, I’ve got some news today that could completely shake up the Golden State Warriors roster, their identity, and maybe even the Western Conference playoff race. Multiple sources, including NBA reporter Jake Fischer, are saying that the Golden State Warriors have legit interest in Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddy in a potential sign and trade swamp involving Jonathan Kaminga. Now, this is the biggest story in the NBA right now, so let’s break it down in today’s video. Welcome everybody. My name is Troy and this is the Halfcore Report. Be sure you click that thumbs up button and subscribe for some of the best NBA content that you’re going to find on YouTube. Here’s the core rumor. According to Fiser, multiple teams have reached out to Josh Giddy’s camp about acquiring him, and Golden State is one of those teams. the Warriors would be interested quote depending on how the minations go end quote in some kind of Josh Giddy Jonathan Kaminga sign and trade. And here’s the part that makes this even juicier. The Warriors interest in Giddy isn’t anything new. Their interest in the Australian Guard goes all the way back to the 2021 NBA draft. It was during that draft the Warriors were fully expecting Kaminga to go to the Oklahoma City Thunder at number six. And in that case, they were prepared to take Josh Giddy with that number seven pick. But Sam Prey and the Thunder jumped in. They took Giddy at six. Kaminga fell to number seven and the rest is history. So, it does make some sense that the Warriors still have one eye toward Josh Giddy. And here’s where the smoke turns into potential fire. Both players are in negotiation deadlocks with their current teams. Both are restricted free agents and both are wanting salaries more than their respective teams are willing to give them. The Chicago Bulls are reportedly offering Giddy around 20 million per year. But Giddy, he’s aiming for something around that $30 million per year mark. And that $10 million difference is a huge gap in today’s NBA. Jonathan Kaminga, meanwhile, has an offer on the table of 2 years and 45 million, and he’s turned that down. Kaminga thinks that he’s just simply worth more than that contract. Plus, by accepting that contract, he runs the risk of getting paid, but still being a guy on the Golden State roster with uneven playing time. And that would open him up to be traded to another team that may even be a worse spot for him than the Warriors. So, a Kaminga Giddy trade actually makes a ton of sense. Josh Giddy is a 68 elite passer, one of the best rebounding guards in the NBA. He’s a walking a triple double threat. He’s the kind of guy who could theoretically slide right into the Warriors ball movement system. So, imagine Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler sprinting off screens with Giddy as a secondary playmaker. It’s the kind of thing that makes Steve Kerr’s motion offense fire on all cylinders. One thing to consider though is Josh Giddy’s biggest weakness is his three-point shooting. He’s a career 31% shooter from deep. And Golden State’s entire offense is built on spacing and high percentage outside looks. If you plug Giddy into that core, yeah, you’re adding playmaking, but are you shrinking the floor for Steph? Now, let’s flip it. Jonathan Kaminga ceiling is still skyhigh. A 67 wing with elite athleticism. He’s shown flashes of being a consistent two-way player who can dominate during some stretches. This past season, he finally started stringing together consistent offensive stretches. He was hitting up jumpers to keep defenses honest. So, if the Warriors trade Kaminga now, would they be selling him too low? He hasn’t peaked yet. The Warriors are in this awkward space where they’re trying to win now for Steph, but also dealing with the reality that their younger players haven’t fully matured. If Kaminga breaks out this season and becomes a 20 point per game scorer with a strong defense, that’s going to be a nightmare scenario for Golden State if they’ve already shipped him off for a guy who might never fix his jump shot. The big roadblock here is the Chicago Bulls. The reports say that there’s not a lot of enthusiasm from rival teams about even calling the Bulls to talk, sign, and trade because they keep telling everyone they want to keep Josh Giddy. But I think that’s leverage. If the Bulls truly believe Giddy is a core piece, they can just match an offer or keep negotiating. And here’s where it gets messy. If Chicago keeps stalling at 20 million per year and Giddy’s camp stays planted at 30 million per year, it’s going to take either a change of heart or a monster offer from another team to crack that stalemate. So, if the Warriors actually pull the trigger on this deal, they’re gambling that Josh Giddy becomes a much better shooter very, very fast. because if he doesn’t, you’ve traded away one of your most athletic, switchable defenders for a ball dominant guard who could clog the offense. And Golden State’s margin for error right now, it’s razor thin. Steph and Jimmy are in the twilight of their careers. They cannot afford a chemistry experiment that takes a year or more to figure out. But front offices, they love unfinished business. The fact that the Warriors wanted Giddy in 2021 means that itch never went away. They’ve seen him develop. They know his strengths and they probably believe that in their system with their culture, he’ll be even better than what we’ve seen in Chicago or OKC. As for Kaminga, this is a player who still might not fit Steve Kerr’s style perfectly. If the Warriors think they can maximize Steph’s remaining prime with a guy like Giddy running point with surgical passing, they might just go for it. Especially if contract talks with Kaminga stay icy. This trade, if it indeed does happen, would be a philosophy shift for Golden State. It’s not just swapping two young players. It is choosing passing over athleticism, vision over rim pressure, and a system fit over raw upside. For Chicago, it’s the opposite. You’d be betting on Kaminga blossoming into a star and bringing defensive versatility to a team that desperately needs more physicality on the wing. Will it happen, guys? Who knows? But the fact that the Warriors are still circling back to a guy they almost drafted tells me that they’re just not looking at this season they’re planning for the post Steph era 2. Guys, let me know what you think in the comments. Would you make this Josh Giddy Jonathan Kaminga trade? And have you heard that the Warriors are also interested in several veterans to fill out their roster? We’ve heard the talk about Al Horford being a potential target for Golden State. He is not expected to resign with the Boston Celtics. But also on the Warriors radar, players like Malcolm Brogden, Seth Curry, and Javvante Green. Three veteran guards who I think would fit in pretty well with the Golden State. So, let me know in the comments what you think of those names, too. Since you’ve watched this far, make sure you drop a like for the YouTube algorithm and hit that subscribe button so you never miss an NBA video from me. If the Bulls actually did get Kaminga, I actually really like a Modest Boozelis Jonathan Kaminga core moving forward. I did a video on Modest Boozelis. He’s coming into a sophomore year in the NBA and I think he is ready to break out. Have you heard what some of his teammates have been saying about him? It’s pretty wild. So, make sure you check out the video. Let me know what you think and I will catch you next time on the Halfcourt Report. Peace.

why would the bulls do this??
I have no doubt it would be perfect for the warriors but it doesnt make sense for bulls, especially since kuminga wants to be the 1st option. Giddey just wants to be a starter
First off Golden State doesn't wanna pay Kuminga. Which Giddey looking for around the same amount. This not going to work.
Kuminga and Giddey needs to prepare to walk away from both teams next sumner as free agents. At least they can go to the destination of their likng.
Signing and trading for Josh Giddy would hard cap Warriors at the 1st apron, that would prevent Warriors to sign Al Horford and other players
Not the giddler
Giddeys 3pt was 38% laast year and 45% since the all star break.. kumingas was 31%
that was terrible
U get giddy so Steph can go off ball more which should scare everybody 😂 think rip Hamilton with unlimited range
All rumors. It doesnt make sense. Giddey is a facilitator who improved his jump shot. The warriors already possess that player (Podz). When Steph hits. the bench, the warriors have a problem scoring the basketball.
Because Giddey isnt a scorer, him going to the warriors just doesnt make sense
Rumors fly. and clickbait is real. both on youtube and espn.
let’s see what the warriors do. this type of trade doesnt make sense at all
in a post steph era, giddey makes sense. it is for the same reason why the bulls wants to keep giddey.
