NEW LOOK MAVS vs HAWKS – Cooper FLAGG – Kristaps PORZINGIS – Road to NBA 2K26
Looking at these two teams, my attention is drawn to the front court matchup. Oh yeah, this should be a battle on the baseline. Great to watch skilled bigs trade blows and show off what they can do down low. Looking at the starting five for the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony Davis is out there with Derek Lively. Then it’s Thompson. Then it’s D’Angelo Russell. Pass to Lively outside Davis. Let’s do it. Just five on the clock [Applause] and finished off by Davis. Tenacious on the inside. Davis great at getting interior positioning and then capitalizing. Pass to Reza. Fires the three. Brains the triple. He’s consistent from out there, especially when you give him that kind of room. Russell against Young. [Applause] Russell the pass to Davis. The three. Oh, and Johnson with a block. And they get it back. Here’s Thompson. The three is up. Rebounded by Johnson. Yeah, and the defense has really got to tighten up on him. I mean, he’s just too dangerous from the three-point line. Pass to Riza. Here’s Daniels. Defended by Thompson to the inside. Count it. One for one to start the game. And there’s some agility as Trey Young maneuvers to the shot he wants. Davis with a screen on Young. And here’s Davis to the middle. And a slam count by Lively. just can make it so much easier for your teammate when you throw that lead pass that gets to him right on the money. Whether that’s on the run or in the shooting pocket. Here’s Rizay back to Young. Fires the three. Klay Thompson pulls down the board outside. Davis pass to Russell. [Applause] It’s rebounded by Reza. Atlanta’s gone one for three from beyond the arc. And you look at the history of the Hawks, Brent, they’ve won one NBA championship. That was back in 1958. Yeah. BA. Tough for people in Atlanta to even recognize that because the team wasn’t there in 58. They were in St. Louis and they were led by the great Bob Pett who was one of the first really impressive, agile big man of his era. And we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kid. Coach wants to speak to his guys, maybe alter some of the game plan. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] And here in the first approaching three minutes played, Davis the pass to Thompson. Pass to Davis. [Applause] Shoots over Johnson again. The miss by Dallas. Atlanta leading by four. [Applause] Here’s Daniels. Back to Porzingis. [Applause] Davis with a rebound. And Davis has got the ball here for the Mavericks. Pass to Russell. And first quarter, we’re about three and a half minutes in. Back to Davis. Clock at six. Rebounded by Daniels. The Hawks have gone three of six from the floor. All right. Right now, let’s send it over to Ally Leforce, who was able to talk with Quinn Snder. And the point of emphasis in the game plan against Anthony Davis was to simply be more physical inside. Coach said, “We have to force him outside the paint and make him shoot those mid to long range shots.” Sounds like they’re willing to give up the outside shot to keep Davis from dominating the paint. All right, Ally, thanks once again. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw good from Porzingis. Well, some people call Porzingis a unicorn and they’re not wrong. His terrific stature and his shooting ability, that is a rare combination. Both free throws good from Porzingis. Makes it pretty tough on the defense. Who you going to pick to send to the free throw line? And he’s hitting the free throws right now. Form looks good. Lively finds Russell. Thompson left side. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. Yeah, if you’re a defender, you might want to be a little bit more patient. Over anxious that time and Klay draws the foul. First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. and he makes a first. Klay Thompson never seems to get too rattled. A pretty even keel guy and you can see that even when Klay’s off the floor. Both free throws good from Thompson. Productive trip to the line. He doesn’t like to leave points on the table. The Hawks lead by four. Pass to Daniels. Here’s Reese. Porzingis sets a screen down low and a slam dunk by Porzingis. You got to stay in front of Porzingis, especially when he rolls out of the pick and roll. Even though that’s not a guarantee you’re going to stop it. Russell against Young. Pass to Thompson. It’s blocked. Yeah, that was great job on defense from Daniels. He knows how to distract shooters. Young. The pass to Daniels. And there’s the drive and he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. It’s going to be on Anthony Davis. Man, the defender really went after him. Atlanta shooting their third and fourth free throw shots of the night. Shooting two. And he knocks down the first one. Washington’s checked in for Davis. rebound. Got to get it. Big. He’s perfect from the line this time. Mavericks trail by eight. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. A moment to rest and confer on the game plan, failing to find a rhythm offensively. Something that needs to change and change soon. Yeah, they’re like a 4-day old soda right now. Just flat. They’re missing shots left and right and just not playing their best. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] pass to Washington on the wing. Thompson outside. Russell beyond the ark. The rebound by Atlanta. And you watch Jaylen Johnson. His athleticism, man, it’s unique. Pretty unique at his size, right, BA? He just glides around the court. He’s got great speed when they play in transition and can get above the rim. So, this guy a bit of a matchup nightmare. Just think when he gets his confidence. Now, here’s Thompson. Here’s Washington. The layup off target. Here’s Atlanta with a ball. They’re on a 14-4 run. Here’s Daniels. And so he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot a pair. Atlanta shooting their fifth and six free throw attempts tonight. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. First one falls for him. Alexander Walker, he’s checked in for Atlanta. And Dallas also making a switch. Marshall’s checked in. and he can’t hit the second. Mavericks trail by nine. They’re searching for a way to score. Yeah, buckets have been very tough to come by. Washington finds Thompson. Fades away. That one falls. That’s a shot Klay Thompson is very capable of making. for Atlanta. They’ve gone four of eight and looking in control. To the inside, cuts off the pass and up the court they come. The Mavericks on the break, throws it up high and a slam dunk by Lively. I would imagine it’s nearly impossible to not get fired up after that play. Greg, check these guys out on the bench. Their reaction says it all. They are fired up. Here’s Daniels outside. Alexander Walker pass to Johnson. [Applause] Young looking around. Five on the clock. Let’s go with a three. Lively grabs the miss. He didn’t make them pay for that weak defense, but they just can’t rely on him to miss those kind of shots. Well, Russell throughout the course of the game wants to constantly put pressure on the defense. He did so there. It’s his first trip to the line. Free throw is good from Russell. And both free throws good for Russell. The Hawks lead by three. Outside Young. Pass to Johnson. Up top. Alexander Walker. And Atlanta misses again. Pretty lax defense there. He’s going to see fewer and fewer chances if he can’t bury those kind of jumpers. Thompson shot is off. Atlanta’s gone just two for six from the arc here in the first. And let’s swing it over to the sideline. And here from Ally. Hey Brian. Jaylen Johnson is developing the complete game. He said, “I watch the guys who do everything. That’s my mindset. I want to be at least solid in every department and then keep building on that, adding bits and pieces here and there. Brian, his versatility is already drawing attention leaguewide. Yeah, there’s no question about that, Ally. Thank you. And so it’s Russell who brings up the ball for Dallas. Hits a three-point game. Here’s Marshall. Yes. And a nice assist from Thompson. Well, Clay is going to draw that kind of attention and that’s going to open up opportunity. The Hawks have gone four of 10 shooting the rock in this first quarter. Porzingis with a screen on Russell with the 10-footer and Atlanta misses again and it’s the Mavericks ball. Nine points in a row. A good run going. Thompson finds Russell now. Here’s Washington. He’s closely guarded. Here’s Thompson. A chance there to take the lead, but a miss. And Atlanta shooting just 36% here in the first quarter. Pass to Alexander Walker. [Applause] Just five to shoot. 18 ft out. That one goes. Now he’s one for two. He really hooked the defender with that pump fake. It worked to perfection. Thompson outside. Now here’s Washington. Another three for Dallas. That’s pretty much not how they want to defend the three-point line. Somebody’s got to shadow him out there. The Hawks have gone five of 12 in this first quarter. Daniels passes to Young outside. Porzingis hits the trifecta. Porzingis has got seven points in the game. That’s a confident shot from Porzingis. And when he’s pulling that quick, you know he’s feeling it. Washington outside. There’s the steel. And now the Hawks on the break. Johnson with a bucket. And now it’s a four-point Hawks lead. That’s impactful defense right there. Finding a steal and instantly turning it into offense. Pass to Russell over Young. Russell. That’s good. Oh, defenses try to get physical with Russell, but he has great body control and composure. Tough to throw him off his game. Now, here’s Young. He’s got five outside Porzingis. [Applause] And there’s the lob. Boy, he left it right in the sweet spot with the lob. Nicely done. Nice touch on both ends of that alley. Hey, when he let go of the pass, I had no idea what he was going for. Mavericks trail by four. Russell, the pass to Washington. There’s a minute 59 left in the first. Pass to Marshall. Six on the shot clock. Screen by Lively. Marshall. Passes to Lively. Out to Thompson. Outside. Russell. And here’s Washington. Knocks it down from distance. Washington’s gotten his second bucket of the game. Well, the defense better make sure they’re sticking to all four other players or else D’Angelo is going to find the open man. And so it’s Quen Snider here calling timeout. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Both teams will make substitutions. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] And Atlanta with possession here. Pass to Aangu outside Alexander Walker and he got the whistle on the way up. So he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. PJ Washington picks one up. Atlanta shooting their seventh and eighth free throw attempts of the game. shooting two. No good on that one. Exoms checked in for Dallas. Good on the second one. The Mavericks trailing. A minute 15 left in the first quarter of the game. They set the pick to the wing on the left and a Kongu with the block and it’s out of bounds. They say it was last touch by a Kongu and that shot was going nowhere thanks to that aggressive swap. Yeah, just some terrific effort there. And you know, the whole team will get an energy boost off a block like that one. Here’s Exum and the go-ahehead bucket. No good. Atlanta’s gone three of seven from beyond the arc in the first. Pass to Riza [Applause] outside Alexander Walker. Shot clock at five and the call is going to be yes on illegal screen. The screener was leaning a bit right there. His feet may not have been planted. Pretty obvious call by the officials. Got to hold firm or you’re going to get a call. They’ve been keeping things close and now have a chance to jump back on top. BA Gaffford the screen. 26 seconds left in the first quarter. And that’s a foul called ona Kongu. That’s his first foul. On defense, the Hawks Now exam no points so far. Parked it down low that time. Got hit with the 3second call. The Hawks leading and here’s Canard. Pass to Alexander Walker. Oh, there’s the alley. You could just see how in sync they were there. That’s what it takes to pull that off. And that concludes the first quarter of play. Atlanta on top up by four. And the second quarter about to get started. We’ll be back in a moment. And for those of you just tuning in, second quarter action is where we are. And what do you guys think so far about the offensive approach for the Hawks? They’ve done a great job facilitating so far. So moving the rock and finding the open man. Just great selfless basketball. Well, another thing they’re doing right is winning the foul calls. They right away been focused on doing damage as much as they can when they get in the bonus. Get to that free throw line. We got Reese Nquille Alexander Walker out there with Luke Canard. Then there’s Oneka Kongu. That’s the group starting the second quarter for the Hawks. Hits the three-pointer. Washington’s got nine. And this is a star-driven league. But talk about the importance of role players, Grant. Oh, BA. A lot of times they’re the ones who carry the day. You know what you’ll get from your stars, but when the X factor ignites that can make the difference. Now here’s Alexander Walker and Gaffford with the block. Washington inside, covered by Alexander Walker and it’s Washington missing. Atlanta’s gotten three of their seven threes to find the net in this matchup. Pass to Aangu. gets stolen by Washington. Exum outside. Washington outside. Uncovered. That won’t go. Three for six in this one. I know it’s about defending the post and the three-point line these days, but still got to be active in the mid-range area. And the defense gets away with one there. outside Alexander Walker and it’s off from three-point range. The Mavericks have gone just one of three to begin the second quarter and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. The defense there doing whatever they can to protect the rim. Dallas shooting their fifth and six free throws of the game. ties it up and his next one could give him the lead. And Atlanta making a change here. Buffkins checked in. So one for two that time at the strike. He was able to tie it up, but he has to be disappointed that he could not give his team the lead. Canard can’t get it to go. Well, he creates such a great opportunity right at the rim and he just can’t get it to go even with the defense not really a factor. [Applause] Back to Exum [Applause] down to five on the shot clock to the paint. Lays it up and in off the pretty assist. Gaffford’s got his first two points. Getting enough shots in close to play inside out. Here’s Buffkin. He’s guarded by Exx and he lobbs it up top and an emphatic jam on the lob. Beautiful setup on the alley. Great catch. Great flush. The Mavericks have gone two of four here in the second quarter. The rebound by Atlanta. Their biggest lead of the game was nine. Pass to Buffkin. Second quarter play. Almost three minutes gone here. Here’s Reese for three. Washington grabs the miss. Now here’s Exom. Back to Washington. [Applause] Pass to Christie and here’s Exom from downtown. The rebound by Atlanta’s got four rebounds now. Count it. One for one to start the game. Just under three and a half minutes played here in the second quarter. Exom outside. Here’s Washington. [Applause] Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. These are his first free throws of the game. And the first one at the line is good. So, it’s both teams making substitutions here. [Applause] Both good from the line that time and just over three and a half minutes played here in the second quarter. There’s a screen by Tophen. Here’s Alexander Walker. Takes a three. Counted from distance. Alexander Walker’s got six. That’s one of the best three-point shooters. You got to try to scramble the Jets right here and get that guy off the sweet spot. Three-pointer. They get it back. Exom outside. launches a three. That one falls. He’s now one for three. He’s going to punish you if you leave him open. He’s more than willing to take the open three when he’s got it. Let’s check in with our reporter Ally Leforce. Hey, Brian. The Mavericks are looking to contend. Coach Jason Kid said, “We’re trying to build a championship team, and it’s not easy. Dallas has not talked about that for a long time.” So, to talk about that, it’s pretty cool. To be able to build it takes time. We have the personnel. We have the team, Brian. That’s confidence. Yep. And they’re in win now mode. Ally, thank you. Inside pass to Christie. The three ball. That won’t go for him now. 0 for two. Atlanta’s gone one for three from downtown here in the second. Here’s Alexander Walker. Knocks down the triple. Nine points in the game. Can’t talk enough about the subtleties in that setup right there. The assist really the key to that entire sequence. Here’s the pick out left to the wing. Washington against Toppen. The basket drops and he gets fouled on the shot. One free throw coming his way. Oh, he really fought for that one. Battling through contact to complete the play. And this is his second trip to the line tonight. Atlanta making some changes. Johnson, he’s checked in for Tophen. Houston comes in for Canard. And it’s Trey Young in for Buffkin. [Applause] And the free throw no good. Atlanta’s gotten five of 11 threes to drop so far in this game. Outside Young from the arc. Christie with a rebound. Yeah, we’re chipping some orange paint off the rim here, guys. He must be more patient on offense and trying to find ways to penetrate inside and get closer to the rim. Oh, another lead change. Six total in the first half. And this is the battle we were hoping to see. And the Hawks with possession here. The Mavs get their last shot to go. Alexander Walker. The kick out to Young. That is Trey’s shot. The three. If you’re going to allow Trey to squeeze off a three, he’s going to squeeze hard. Man, Brent, when Trey Young is on the floor, his teams put up ridiculous offensive numbers. What makes Trey a differencemaker? Well, I think Trey’s relentlessness as an offensive player is hard to defend. I mean, he is so quick with the basketball. He gets into the teeth of the defense and causes so many problems. BA, he sometimes has those stretches where he becomes an offense unto himself. Here’s Johnson after the basket by Dallas on the wing. Alexander Walker outside. Young three-pointer and it’s Young again missing. And I’m surprised that didn’t go down. I mean, I’m sure he is too. Lively passes to Washington. Here’s Hardy. The three is up. Nice start for him. Sinking his first shot. Well, we’ve seen Davis expand his game. You can see it there with the playmaking. [Applause] Akongu a screen on Washington to the inside. It’s deflected to the middle. Johnson with a double team. Pass to Lively and there’s a 3second violation. Cr checked in for Houston. Williams has checked in for the Mavericks. Hawks trail by three. Now here’s Young from deep three-point land from way downtown. Young. I mean, how do you stop a guy like that defensively you want to protect the rim. He’s so far away as Trey Young from the bucket. Washington outside. There’s the double with a Kongu. [Applause] Young against Williams. [Applause] Back to Lively. Clock at six. Oh, and Johnson with a block outside. Alexander Walker. Pass to Young. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. And looking at Trey Young, Brent, his team’s always finished in the top 10. an offensive rating. Yeah, for Trey, those teams he’s played on have normally been in the top five along with playing at a top 10 pace. So, when he has the ball in his hands and he’s coming at you, very difficult to stop. Young so talented, you’re basically guaranteed to have a good offensive team. And he makes a first. You have to love Trey Young’s relentlessness on the floor, his focus, just giving the game 100% of himself and not messing around in any regard. on the miss. And both free throws good for Young. Dallas has gone three for seven from the perimeter during the second quarter. And we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kidd. And we might see some changes. Coach potentially looking to adjust. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Thompson finds Lively. [Applause] Davis against Johnson. Shot clock. It’s Oh, Anthony Davis. Emphatic. Is Davis competing in the All-Star slam dunk contest? I give him a 48. And here’s Young. He’ll bring it up for Atlanta. Their biggest lead of the game was nine. Porzingis with a screen on Russell. There’s Young with the three. Mavericks with the rebound. Thompson passes to Russell. Johnson against Thompson. And it’s flush down. A nice jam, ba. I’m not sure he should be flaunting around the rim like that with this game. So close. Oh, it’s risky, but it sure didn’t look good. Now here’s Young. 13 points in the game. Can’t hit that one. Russell with the ball. Pass to Davis. Here’s the three. Here’s Lively. And a slam dunk by Lively. And that really has to lift his teammates spirits right now. I’ll tell you, Grant, these second chance buckets could be what this game comes down to. Well, especially in a close game, every possession matter. The Mavericks lead by four. Now here’s Russell to the paint. Easy two for AD. He does that so well and his size. He’s always a threat to throw it down. Atlanta’s gone seven for 17 from three-point range so far in this matchup. Here’s Daniels defended by Thompson. [Applause] outside. Young to halt the run. Fires in the triple. Young’s got 16 points now. That stroke looks so good from Trey Young. Pass to Davis and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. That one on Johnson. Despite entering his 30s, Anthony Davis is not slowing down, Graham. Yeah, BA. And last year, AD put up the best rebounding numbers of his career. And his shooting percentage also very high. And just watching him, Davis is still an allNBA caliber player capable of taking over on both ends. [Applause] That one’s off. [Applause] and he sinks the second and the Hawks with possession here. Trailing by four. Pass to Daniels. 110 left to play in the second quarter. Down low. Here’s Rez the three. Lively grabs a miss. Lively has got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done outside. Russell takes a three. He’s off on that one. And for the Hawks, they’re shooting just 37% from the field in the second quarter. pass to Young the three. Atlanta gets it back. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. They have the massive height and then you add the skill. Porzingis, one of the more unique matchups in the NBA. And he’ll take his third and fourth free throws of the night. Shooting two. [Applause] And that one misses. And the Mavericks making a change here. Washington’s checked in. And the second free throw is good. The Mavericks lead by three. Outside Russell. Great D that time from Porzingis. And the Hawks shooting 44%. A pretty decent clip. Here’s Young. Got a piece of it. It’s an even threeon-ree break. And he jams it home with authority. And after putting it down, he dangles from the rim a little. Man, that’s borderline taunting right there, Grant. They’re playing with a certain swagger right now. And so a close game as we wrap up the first half of play. Mavericks ahead up by five. We’ll see you after halftime for the beginning of the third quarter. [Applause] Heat. Heat. And if you’re just joining us. We played through the first half in a game that’s been fairly even so far. We’re seeing a tremendous game from Trey Young. Through two quarters of play, he’s been an excellent source of points. Yeah, he’s he’s shouldering the load right now and looking really comfortable while he’s doing it. [Applause] Dallas leading by five on the court right now for the Mavericks. They’ve got Derek Lively. D’Angelo Russell is out there with Thompson. Then there’s Davis. No good there. And so it’s Johnson with it. He brings it up for the Atlanta Hawks. Young can’t hit. Russell with the ball and it’s Young picking him up. Pass to Davis. Clively with a screen on Porzingis. There’s Davis with the three. Atlanta with the rebound. Johnson’s got six rebounds now in the game. Here’s Reese. This one for three. The shot no good. Reese’s gone. Just two of six shooting. 33%. Second half getting started. About a minute play. Stolen by Young. Here’s Porzingis. And once again off the mark by Atlanta. The Mavericks leading. Davis finds Russell. Back to Davis. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. Christophs Porzingis picks one up. Outstanding job by AD to get close to the basket, get the ball in great position, and force the defense to resort to fouling him. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw good from Davis. It’s both on the stripe. And Atlanta with possession here. Seven-point differential outside. Young outside. Porzingis. Pass to Johnson. Here’s Daniels. Porzingis with it. Just five to shoot. Outside Young. Atlanta again missing. And not a way to get out of a funk. He needs to be looking for good, solid, more efficient shots, not the wild one he took there. Oh, Davis finish it off the lob. Great work by the team there to find AD. They make eye contact and the rest of that is history. Things just don’t seem to be clicking for them offensively. Yeah, they really need to find a way to get back on track. It’s stolen by Lively in transition. Here they come. A chance to extend the lead to double digits, but it’s no good. Russell against Young and the three-pointer goes. Young’s got 19 points and his fantastic performance from the last game has carried over to tonight. Yeah, the coach pretty smart for zoning in on him and giving him opportunities to stay with that confident play. Six to shoot to the middle. Oh, got a piece of it. Lively passes to Davis from the ark. Rebounded by Daniels. Hawks trail by six. Pass to Reza. Now Johnson back to Young puts up a deep three. Thompson pulls it in. And this is exactly who you want taking that shot. He just missed it. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. He wants to make sure everybody’s on the same page. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Washington’s checked in for Lively. Dallas leading by six. Now Russell to the paint. Here’s Davis. Porzingis grabs the board. Porzingis has got his fifth rebound in this one. Here’s Johnson and they’re going to count that bucket and they’ll send him to the line. It could be a three-point play. Such a critical part of how their offense is going to flow. Things are only working when he seems to be on the floor. He’s getting his first free throw attempt of the game here. [Applause] And Johnson no good on that one. Dallas has gone 0 for two from outside here in the third. Washington against Porzingis. [Applause] And here’s Thompson for three. That’s in there. Davis with the assist. Davis has got three assists in the game. [Music] Russell against Young. Pass to Porzingis. Here’s Daniels. Porzingis with a screen on Thompson. Daniels gets a very good look and converts. Easy look when the defender isn’t fighting over the screen. Yeah, the coach over there just asking for one simple thing and that’s some effort. Got burned on that one. Thompson finds Russell. Washington with the ball. Thompson outside. Outside Davis and the shot fall short that time and he just hasn’t been able to get it going this period. Now, I haven’t seen him in in comfortable spots or at least spots we’ve seen in this offensive set that are allowing him to settle in. Dallas leading by five. And here’s Russell. Thompson right side, shoots from the elbow. Clay busting it up inside. Now you can never let Clay shoot off a crisp pass. He just lets that go so quick. Young the pass to Daniels. Back to Young. Porzingis with a screen on Russell. Pure from three-point range. Young’s got 22. That right there, that’s the kind of look this system is designed to create. Pass to Washington. 4-3. Rebounded by Johnson. Hawks trail by four. Here’s Daniels. Defended by Thompson. There’s Young with the three. Rebound collected by Anthony Davis. Davis has got his seventh rebound here tonight. And here’s Washington. Out outside Davis. Davis showing his range. Well, you combine AD’s length and his skill and when he’s on like this, he’s unstoppable. Pass to Reese. Shot blocked. Now here’s Davis. The D’s right on him. Washington outside to the inside. Oh, a beautiful feed leads to a monster jam. Who doesn’t love to see David take on Goliath, their huge throwdown. Let’s check in with Ally Leforce for an injury update on Derek Lively. Ally, the head athletic trainer for the Mavericks. Let me know the status. He called the injury a lower back bruise and said it’s very stiff at the moment. Well, and Ally, it appears that he needs some work done before he comes back to this one. And we all know that if it’s something he can play through, he’ll be back. No doubt. [Applause] Davis against Porzingis. Davis goes in and AD was stupendous in how he caught the ball and just immediately attacks the basket. The D was not ready for him there. And a moment now to quickly take a look at the offensive approach for the Mavericks. Well, the coaching staff has to love what they’re seeing on offense. There’s so many assists because how this team is moving the ball. Well, we’ve also seen them being very aggressive down in the paint. All game long. They’ve been hunting down those inside points. That free throw good from Davis. Atlanta making some changes. Alexander Walker, he’s checked in for Daniels. And it’s Canard in for Young. Lively, he’s checked in for the Mavericks. Christie comes in for Klay Thompson. [Applause] Both free throws good from Davis. Hawks trail by 11. Alexander Walker with it. He’s got nine. Pass to Canard. They need this. Sends it home from three-point land. Canard’s got his first three points of the game. And as long as Canard keeps knocking down those threes, he’s going to get more opportunity. outside Davis. And off the left side of the rim, it swirls in for him. He’s got nine. And just totally relentless, only increasing the intensity level. He’s the guy that you want to go to right now trying to put this one away. Porzingis in the post. Lively’s there. Porzingis passes to Alexander Walker and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. He’s made one and missed one so far at the line. [Applause] That free throw no good. Buffkin, he’s checked in for the Hawks. And Dallas also making a switch. Washington’s checked in. And he’s good on the second. Here’s Russell. Pass to Christie. Oh, it’s blocked by Porzingis. And shooters must beware. Porzingis is down there lurking. Davis down low covered by Johnson. Well, that was clearly a foul. It’ll be his fourth time going to the line in this game. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw good from Davis. The Hawks making a switch here. A Kongwoo checked in. Both free throws good from Davis. And so it’s Johnson with it. He brings it up for the Atlanta Hawks. They trail by 11. Porzingis surveying the floor. Pass to Alexander Walker. Unable to get that one. Can’t blame him. Just trying to take what the defense allows. Washington left side. Now Davis. I like watching AD going at the defense and trying to impose some of that physicality from him to them. He’s been punishing them at the line in this one. Going seven for eight. And man, can we discuss the great work he’s done at the line tonight? Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And he can’t get the first one. Canard, he’s checked in for Johnson. And Dallas with a change here to Marshall. He’s checked in for Lively. [Applause] Good on the second one. Here’s Buffkin. They’ve got plenty of time to get back into this. Yeah, I’m sure they feel pressed, but this is when you have to stay calm and execute. And Quinn Snider decides to call timeout. We might see him looking to make some tweaks to the strategy here. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] play inside [Applause] for Three. Porzingis. Rebounded by Marshall. Dallas leading by 12. Pass to Russell. Second shot opportunity and a Kongu with the block. Porzingis against Russell. Fades back and he gets the bucket. Porzingis has got 12. Porzingis with a soft jump shot there. Nice touch. Davis a screen takes one from 10 ft. The shot won’t fall. Well, the Hawks shooting 35% in the third quarter. Pass to Buffkin from behind the ark. Gets the three to fall. Five points in the game. Slow defensive rotation causing a breakdown along the perimeter. Here’s Christie. Defended by Canard. [Applause] Christie shot is off. Hawks trail by seven. Down low. Here’s Alexander Walker and he can’t jam it through. Dallas has gone two for five from three since halftime. [Applause] Look, quite a few trips to the line in this one. And he’s making them count. Shooting eight of 10 so far. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. But he drops a first. [Applause] Both free throws good from Davis. The Hawks trailing. He’s guarded by Washington. Pass to Buffkin. Picked up by a Kongwu. The shot by Alexander Walker. No good. Given his range, you’d expect him to capitalize on that opening. Oh, they pick off the pass. Here’s Buffin and Atlanta misses again. Let’s be honest, that’s not a shot he should be taking. No, he he should know better. He knows that’s not his game, which is why we don’t see him take that shot often. Hawks trail by nine. Outside, Alexander Walker. A minute 22 left in the third. Throws it up high. Deflects the pass. Pass to Buffkin. Fires the three. He can’t hit that time. Dallas leading by nine. Russell deciding where to go with it. On target from range. Russell’s got seven points in the game. Well, this becomes the DLO zone right now and he’s got the kind of range to step back even further. Here’s Alexander Walker. [Applause] There’s 48 seconds left in the third quarter. Pass to Aangu. Three on the clock. Shoots over Davis. Aongu with the bucket. And it’s the Mavericks with the ball. 30 seconds left in the third quarter here. On the wing, Davis shoots over a Kongwoo and Davis gets it to go on the assist by Russell. Russell’s got five assists in the game. 23 seconds left in the third quarter of the game. Boy, they’d love if anyone could get a bucket. Yeah, their offense has been grinding to a hole. Here’s Buffkin. Five points in the game. The three is up. It’s not going to go for him. And here at the end of the third, it’s a doubledigit ball game. Dallas on top. They lead by 12. And right after this, we’ll bring you the start of the final quarter right here on 2K Sports. And one quarter to go in a game that to this point has not been an evenly fought contest. Hawks trail by 12. We’ve got Luke Canard, Nquille Alexander Walker out there with a Kongwoop. And it’s Buffkin in at the point guard position. So, that’s the lineup for Atlanta. Here’s Alexander Walker. Oh, a nice onehanded slam right there. Just great energy on the offensive glass. That’s exactly how you cut into a lead. Boy, a slam like that is sure to give him a spark. Washington passes to Christie. Gaffford the screen. Here’s Marshall and there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. The first free throw is good. Gays checked in for the Hawks. [Applause] Both shots good from the strike. Hawks trail by 12. To the middle. Here’s Canard and blocked. That one goes careening off the glass. It’s Exom on the wing. 60 ticks off the clock here in the fourth. Shoots a fadeaway. That one drops for him and the Mavericks lead by 14. for Atlanta. They’ve gotten just one shot to fall out of three attempts in the fourth. Aongu finds Canard. Here’s Buffkin. He’s guarded by Exx outside. Alexander Walker. Just four to shoot. And the rebound goes to Dallas. [Applause] Marshall passes to Exom. Here’s Christie from deep. Huffkin with a rebound. Moving along. Two minutes gone in the fourth. [Applause] The first one falls. [Applause] That one falls. So he hits both of them. Two minutes gone by here in the fourth. Exum passes to Gaffford. Back to Exxom. Pass to Washington. Now Gafford. Five on the clock. Fires the three and it’s Washington missing. Hawks trail by 12. Here’s Buffkin. Nice D from Gafford. I think he rushed that one just a little bit thinking the defense was going to get close. They weren’t. And it’s out of bounds. The Mavericks able to retain possession here. And Atlanta making a change here. Pass to Washington. Here’s Marshall. to the inside. Gafford rebound Atlanta’s got his seventh rebound of the game with that last one. Here’s Gorsuch. Launches it. The Mavericks pull it in. Christiey’s got four rebounds now. Washington outside. Pass to Christie. Six on the shot clock. Gafford the screen. Here’s Exum and the three off target. And he almost made them regret defending him so loosely. [Applause] Outside Alexander Walker picked up by a Kongu. unloads from 13 and he takes that one up and powers it through. And this is something he does all too well. Great position for the put back there. And I like how he doesn’t think twice about passing it out. Just going right for the slam. Oh, his competitiveness right now is why the teammates love him. Buries it from three. Now you have to extend that defense. I mean, you really have to stay connected to him at all times. Yeah. Not sure what the defense collectively was thinking there. You got to know where he is at all times. Here’s Crerachche. He’s guarded by Exom. And it’s going to be a 3second call. You have to limit mistakes. They’re so tough to overcome. Well, not making things easier on themselves right now. That’s for sure. And a second look at that rejection. Taking no prisoners on defense there. Oh, amazing indeed. And getting stops like that only encourages them to keep attacking on the offensive end. And a new group getting ready for the Mavericks. Lively, he’s checked in for Gaffford. Davis comes in for Washington. Thompson, he’s checked in for Marshall. And D’Angelo Russell subbed in for Exom. Outside Davis. Here’s Christie. Oh, a great one-two punch. Beautiful pass and a nasty jam. and sends it home with some passion. I think he’s rubbing it in a little bit here. Hanging up there like that. Pass to Alexander Walker. [Applause] Oh, and he took a hard foul on the shot. So, he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. Klay Thompson picks one up. No debate there. He got hammered. Let’s [Applause] get it. Get it. Get it. First free throw is good. And so he hits both. Here’s Russell. Pass to Christie. Here’s Davis again. Dallas. And with that comfort that AD feels from the mid-range, he’s going to feast from there. Outside, Alexander Walker. Young with it for three and once again off the mark by Atlanta and Davis has got the ball here for Dallas. They’ve given up just eight points in the fourth. Thompson no good. Clean look from mid-range. Coach will probably want to run that play again. Pass to Porzingis. Outside Young. Porzingis sets a screen. Oh, Young with a physical finish inside. Young working hard on the defensive end that time. Dallas leading by 13. Russell a pass to Thompson. Now Davis fires for three. gets the three ball to go. Davis has got five points in the quarter. He’s been an absolute marksman the entire second half. Hard to imagine what anyone can do right now to slow him down. Back to Young. Pass to Alexander Walker. Porzingis with a screen on Thompson. Shot clock at six. Operating inside. Porzingis. And Porzingis has that kind of touch at 73. He can hurt you in there. The Mavericks have got five out of 10 shots to drop here in the final quarter. Thompson outside puts up a three. He drops it from range. He’s going to punish you if you leave him open. He’s more than willing to take the open three when he’s got it. And so it’s Quen Snider here calling timeout. He was quite emphatic demanding the timeout. Clearly wanting to address strategy with his team. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] All right, we present our New Balance player of the game, Anthony Davis. This is special. We are witnessing a legendary performance here tonight. He is like levels above everyone else on the floor. Something must have clicked for him in warm-ups tonight. He’s just come out and he has run wild. Wow. Did this game really turn out to be his show. A commanding performance like that makes for a sweet victory, especially on the road. Here’s Johnson outside. Porzingis. Pass to Young to the paint. Johnson finds Young. Porzingis with a screen on Russell. Young way outside, knocks down the long K. Young’s got five points now this quarter. That’s one of the best three-point shooters. You got to try to scramble the Jets right here and get that guy off the sweet spot. Davis, the pass to Russell. Thompson outside. Five to shoot. Oh, it’s blocked by Porzingis. Johnson with it and Lively picks him up defensively. Johnson passes to Daniels. [Applause] There’s Young with the three. Rebound. Anthony Davis. Davis is the Mavericks lead by 14 inside. Here’s Lively. That one falls coming off Davis feed like a matador. Olay. There was no defense. That has to be one of the easier shots I’ve seen tonight. Yeah. Feels like Christmas right now. Just gift dropping points. Young the pass to Porzingis. Yes, Kristoff showing some range. Porzingis can knock him down from out there. Just looking for some consistency outside. Russell. Johnson against Davis. Lively with a screen on Johnson down low. That’s tipped and the ball out of play. The Hawks will have it. And you got to be in awe of incredible defensive efforts like this. Yeah, I love that they maintain the defensive energy even when they’re behind. [Applause] Here’s Young. Pass to Daniels. Back to Young from deep. The Mavericks pull it in. Lively’s got a rebound number 12 here already in the game. Here’s Davis. And he was fouled in the act of shooting. Opportunity for a three-point play here. And you can see the lower body strength from AD right there. Able to take contact, get fouled, and still get the shot to go. One shot. [Applause] Hawks trail by 16. Pass to Daniels. Back to Young. Porzingis with it. Tries a 10-footer. Sinks it again. That’s his seventh made field goal in 11 tries. [Applause] And here are the Mavericks now. 17 points was their biggest margin. Russell the pass to Davis. Oh, plenty of contact on that shot. Officials call the foul and he’ll take two free throws now. Shooting two. [Applause] And that one misses [Applause] and he sinks the second [Applause] and Young has got the ball here for the Atlanta Hawks. 15-point game. Pass to Johnson now. Porzingis covered by Lively. Porzingis in the post. Lively’s there. Porzingis misses. Dallas has gone three of six from downtown so far in the fourth and he’s going for the lob and the ball goes out of bounds. Last touch by Russell. Looked like a simple play and turned into a turnover. Can’t give away possessions like that. Atlanta’s gone two of six so far in the fourth. outside Johnson. They set the pick [Applause] outside. Porzingis drills it from deep. Porzingis has got 10 points in the quarter. And the coaching staff better alert their defense to Porzingis and how comfortable he is right now on offense. [Applause] A minute 58 left in the final quarter. And here’s Thompson for three. It’s rebounded by Reese. Reese’s got four rebounds now. Outside Young. The kick out to Johnson. Back to Young. There’s the three and the rebound goes to Dallas. Trying to end this thing with some big threes, but the accuracy just isn’t there tonight. I got him. I got him. Davis against Johnson. Lets it go from 11. Davis can’t hit. Hawks trail by 12. [Applause] Pass to Johnson. Stolen by Davis. Barring a miracle comeback, this one is wrapped up. They were able to control the tempo and flow of the game and it will end in a victory for the Mavericks. Well, I have to comment on their strong performance tonight at the charity strike and it might have won them the game. The ability to draw fouls and capitalize can be a real difference maker. And when you look at the game, the one thing that helped fuel this team to victory was the efficiency for Anthony Davis. Just knows how to fill it up. And that’s exactly what he did tonight. Nobody that they assigned to him could really get a handle on him. Pass to Daniels. Three-pointer. Lively grabs a miss. 7sec difference between the shot clock and the game clock. And so he draws the foul headed to the line to shoot a pair. Klay Thompson is tall for a guard so you want to utilize any advantage you have. That time height came into play. shooting two. That free throw is good from Thompson. Both free throws good from Thompson. 24 seconds left in the fourth. to the middle. Here’s a Congu. Oh, the dunk by a Congu. Now, here’s Exom. And so, Dallas takes this one by a big margin. Exceptional effort on the road. They were ready and they were focused. Focused indeed. I mean, it takes a strong mental approach to block out the distractions. These guys stepped up 100%. And that’ll do it, folks. Alongside Brent Barry, Grant Hill, and Ally Leforce, this is Brian Anderson with our entire 2K crew thanking you for watching. And now, let’s take a look at our player of the game, Anthony Davis.
