Back in Portland! – Jersey Collection Post 10 | Damian Lillard – Trail Blazers ‘Rip City’ Alternate
One of my favorite players returned to the team that drafted him back in 2012. And for post tenn of showing my entire jersey collection, I decided to dust off this jersey that was short-lived but led to a trend for this team. Now, here is my Portland Trailblazers Rip City alternate jersey. Now, I’ve always liked the Blazers branding from the good color scheme of the red, black, and white to the pin wheelel logo and their jerseys, which I think they’ve always had some solid jerseys throughout the franchise’s history. Now, before this jersey, the jerseys have either had Portland or Blazers on the front here. But in 2009, they debuted something different with the team nickname Rip City. Now, for those who don’t know, the term Rip City came from Blazers longtime announcer Bill Shaley, who shot at Rip City. All right, after Jim Barnett hit the game tying shot against the Los Angeles Lakers during their inaugural season, and since then has become a staple in Portland’s basketball culture. Even today, from time to time, there’s yearly city jerseys that had the term Rip City on it. I mean, as you can see here, Rip City in lowercase here, the red and Rip City here in black with the little pin wheel legal on the top here. It’s really good. And of course, the numbering here is really nice. I like the slashes here of the different colors. It’s a really cool jersey. Now, like I said, this jersey did start up in 2009. It lasted until 2014, but for the next couple seasons, this jersey was still around, but they did add the sleeves to it, which that’s a whole another video. But again, the wording here, it’s really nice here. here. I like the little thing of the Y with city here all the way over on the side here with the rip in one color and again that pin wheel logo. It is small up here, but I think it’s really nice. Now you guys probably know who this is going to be with this jersey and of course that is Damen Lillard. Now what more can I say about Damen Lillard, seventime allstar, seventime allNBA selection and 2013 rookie of the year during his time in Portland. And from 2012 to 2023, he was the heart and soul of Portland basketball. Now, this past offseason, after two years away with the Milwaukee Bucks, he did sign back with Portland on a three-year deal. Now, you see, even with the numbers, a little bit of a different pattern here, which I thought was an underrated part of this jersey. Now, fun fact about this jersey. Like I said, this came out in 2009, but Lillard’s rookie year was in 2012, and this jersey was retired in 2014 for the sleeve version of this. So, Lillard did wear this for two seasons, his first two years in the league. So, I do have a rookie year special edition Damen Lillard jersey. Now, what do you think of the Portland Trailblazers Rip City alternate jersey back in the day?
Always thought this was a cool jersey in the collection. Now it’s no longer a former player one!
