Is Dejounte Murray’s NEW LOOK the Key to Pelicans Success?
All right. Anyway, let’s keep it moving. Pelicans going to Jonte Murray’s latest Snapchat post signals a big change. Shout out to Pelicans the brief as they talk about this as well over the entire course of the Pelicans off season. Jonte Murray has been someone that the media and family members appeared to forgot about. With Joe Dumo’s blockbuster moves of trading for both Derek Queen and Jordan Pool, it makes sense why an injured Murray hasn’t been a major talking point this summer. However, after a recent post made by Murray on Snapchat, family members are going to have a ton to talk about. In the post, Murray took a pic of himself on a scale while it’s reading 194.1. Assuming the scale was accurate, that means Murray has added 14 lbs to his listed 180 lb frame. To the average person gaining 14 lbs might be a reason to rethink their diet or go see a doctor, but for Murray, it could be exactly what he needs to prolong his career. Let me see if I can see the picture right here. Let me see if I can get the picture here of Murray on the scale. Let me see. I can’t get it there. All right. Anyway, we’ll just go back. Well, I’m I’m going to see if I can pull it up later on. All right. But anyway, during his eight years of NBA experience, eight-year career, Murray has always been someone who’s thrived or into by driving to the basket. That being said, a constant theme throughout his career has been getting battered and bruised when going to the basket due to his thin frame. Now, with some added size to his frame, this shouldn’t be a problem. This could this could entirely alter his trajectory going forward, added weight is going to benefit Murray and the Pelicans in so many ways. Starting on the defensive end, he’s always had elite defensive instincts and been someone who can trigger steals and create turnovers by using active hands in the passing lanes. Some added size, Murray is less likely to get pushed off his spot and can use defensive talents more effectively. Like I mentioned early, he’s always been he’s always excelled at scoring at the rim. Yet over the past couple of years, Murray has been in the 36th percent uh percentile at rim finishing and 25th percentile last season. His poor conversion rate rate at the rim is primarily because of his thin frame. Despite being a larger guard at 6’5, he’s always had a thin frame, an additional 14 pounds. is going to skyrocket his finishing rate at the rim and could could help him add up to five points more per game to his average. That’ll be interesting. Murray is already at a franchise level point guard in the former all-star and now with some much needed added size, he’s going to prolong his career. Being bigger next season will more like make him stronger and help him avoid future injuries. New Orleans al already had a great point guard in Jonte Murray and now he’s going to take his play to the next level with his near 200 lb frame. So, uh, very interesting take with with De Jonte adding um that weight. Of course, we know with him having that type of injury that will cut down his speed and that’s what happened. You know, it’ll cut down his speed and I’m not mad at him picking up a little extra weight, man, cuz he does attack the rim. He does, you know, it it would definitely add muscle helps. So, he’s getting more. He’s getting bigger bulking up size-wise, but that speed, man, is going to kind of take a dip there. All right. What’s up, Shout out to y’all, man. Appreciate y’all being in the building, brother. Don, big ups to you, man. Uh, yeah. He said, Don says, “It’s crazy how many teams want Zion, but he’s a bus though.” I know. They just don’t want you to have them. That’s what it comes down with the whole Zion Williamson thing. They don’t want you to have them. They want to move these guys around. You hear it all the time with some other these these other guys like they infatuated with moving the the stars like a Giannis from Milwaukee to New York or move him to Miami or something. They always these same crazy ass people. They want to take them and move them on out to these other places. They just don’t want you to have them. But it’s it’s insane. Yeah. A person that’s always hurt shouldn’t have that much to, you know, that much trade value. What’s up, Jessica? Shout out to you. All right. Much love. Yeah. So the the Jonte Murray thing, like I said, he is kind of the he is the piece of the puzzle that perhaps doesn’t fit with the Pelicans, right? We know the Pel Joe Dumar’s thought process going into it was he drafted Jeremiah Fierce to be the future point guard of the team. Our top backup, as it says, at the point guard position is is uh is uh Jose Alvarado. You know, they’re trying to find pieces that fit that make sense, but the Jonte Murray makes sense to what the Pelicans got going on. You know, that that that’s going to be interesting. Now, his money once he gets healthy, him making what 30 something million or whatever the case may be. I know he makes big dough, that automatically makes him a starter right right off the top. They’re going to want to get value for that. But this but he’s an interesting player in the mix of the new Pelican uh movement. Last year, you heard in interviews that he just didn’t like what was going on. Looked at the Pelicans, they kind of left him out there. Stuff was going on with his parents and all that. You know, they they wasn’t very receptive. He said that he couldn’t get time in the training room for his rehab and everything and it was just a bunch of stuff going on with the Jonte Murray, but he was not happy with the New Orleans Pelicans. Now, according to a lot of insiders that Joe Dumars have met with all a lot of these players, especially a guy like um Dejonte that was disgruntled as he working that work that thing out. I mean, but like I said, he’s rehabbing and we probably not going to see Murray in a serious capacity hit the court for us until probably later on in December, if not into the start of 2026. you know, I’d probably say somewhere in 2026 before you get him going good and be able to be able to get them in there. Uh, so he can start contributing. By that time, the Pelicans will have a rhythm and what they got going on going into the new year hopefully. Like I said, it’s a lot of a lot of stuff going on with the Pels that fit. But like I said, and I’ll say it again, Joe Dumar has a plan for the Pels and that’s just, man, we just gonna have to see what’s going on. But like I said, I can’t take nothing away from Joe Dumas that I think that he is a guy that uh is is got the team headed in the right direction. I got to tell you, because how long have we been talking about having a tough team that fits the identity of the region in which it plays? Like, and we’ve seen this before. You go to Memphis, they have the the what what they call the Memphis stuff they got going on that the the grind or whatever it is out there, grindhouse, you know, they got that Memphis mentality, that defense, that grittiness. You know, it’s a bluecollar town. is similar to New Orleans in many aspects. And that’s the type of uh team we want to have. We going to have a a gritty defensive team that’s tough that don’t t that don’t take no It’s going to be a you know, it’s not going to be an easy out. Every time you come to the Smoothie King Center, you come to the blender, you going to get chopped up. You know, it’s a physical contest. We don’t we don’t we when the whistle uh and the tip off start, we don’t fight until the game when the game is all on zeros. Everything is over with and then we you know, it’s a tough out when you play the Pelicans. You know, we dive on the floor for loose balls. We double, you know, we double team you. We smarter on defense. We cramming it down on your head. We hitting them our wide open three-point shots. We fundamental at the foul line. We shooting a a high percentage at the foul line. When we get an opportunity to get there, when we turn you over, we convert on the other end. That type of That’s what I want to see from my Pelicans, man. All this old sensitive stuff about being a basketball family and all that old dumb they used to have up there on the board. Joe ripped all that off of there and put up there one goal and he got one goal up there and got a damn NBA trophy up there. That’s what we talking about. Anyway, man, we gonna see how this all this this whole thing twisting and turning, but it’s very interesting uh right now what’s going on with the pales with a lot of people talking. Like I said, if this this lineup here, this is a good this is a good team. This of course is is wrong as hell. I mean, Reeves is no longer on the team, nor neither is Kane. But what’s interesting about the Pelicans to say the least is that we got uh we got a lot of talented players and it’s up to the coaching staff to be able to get these guys together so we can be able to get some wins this year and uh get on the plus side of this thing, stay healthy and move this thing in the right direction. Let’s take a look at the real depth chart. Man, this this is this crazy depth chart is wrong as hell, man. Hold on. Let me put this on the screen for the fam. There you go. Right. They got fears on this. The ESPN depth chart has Fierce as a starter there with Jpool at two with Murphy Williamson and Eaves at the center position. Jose Hawk B Queen in the second unit and you can see you don’t really care about who’s the third guy but outside that’s what I’m saying. You look at uh the Pelicans have pretty much put together a pretty interesting team to be honest with you. And uh it’s going to be fun man. The whole thing about this whole unit is staying healthy and coaching man. What it come down to staying healthy and coaching. All right. Anyway, uh just a adv says we at we’re trading for Sabonis, Miss C. Remember I said, okay, Sabonis, who you going to give up for him? All right. What’s up, Tech Blitz? Shout out to you. Just uh A Davis, who you giving up for Sabonis, bro? And you know, and it got to be a trade that they want, bro. Yeah, Slim said we still got Willie. He can’t get around that. There you go. Denzel says the grit and grind. Yeah, we need a New Orleans version of that man. Got to have something like that, man. We have an identity. play behind the energy and the intensity and the mindset of the region. We are bluecollar uh strong city, resilient city. You use that you you build that into the identity of your basketball team. That’s how you make the you know you grow a strong support base, you know, bottom line. Don says Eve can’t start. That’s what they got. All right. Jaden says, “Cutie, you have the phone.” Uh well, probably uh I don’t know if I’m going to do it tonight, bro. I know probably on the next stream that we got fired up. I got a lot of stuff I’m setting up to do for tomorrow. You know, you know, we got the Saint stuff rolling out. So, I got a lot of work to do tonight on some stuff. But, uh, promise you, bro, on the next broadcast, we’ll be able to roll that out and do the phone line and kind of open the lines of communication for the family members to chime in on their thoughts on it. But, uh, feel free to use the chat. Right. What’s up, Bird Talk? Shout out to you, man. I appreciate you for being in the stream. Yeah, it’s it but this is the the the the talent that we have, man. But you do have a lot of interesting pieces. Like I said, the Jordan Pool is a guy that can give you 20 a night. I mean, the guy is is instant offense, right? He’s instant offense, right? Look at that. Three rebounds, four and a half assists on 43% shooting from the field. And from downtown, I think he’s a 39% shooter. Now, actually, yeah, 38% shooter, which is that he shot that last year for Washington. He put up 20.5 points a game, by the way. That’s the most he did in his career. The last year he was with the uh Golden State Warriors, he averaged 20.4 and 43 starts. And last year he averaged uh 20 and a half and 68 starts and shot 38% from downtown, which is a careerhigh. So you get pulled there, uh 6’4 guard, uh they kind of see him as a combo, but you can see with his five assists a game, he has some assistant ability in him, but the guy is instant offense. And usually when you get a player like that in uh and you put him in the mix with Zion Williamson, what what the hell? You know, that that’s supposed to mean something. That’s supposed to mean something. And of course, Sadique Bay will be ready to go. What they saying about Sadi Bay, this is some of the people we bring in. Sadique Bay averaged 14 points the year before last. Of course, last year he spent them the entire season out. You know, the prior season when he was in there, Sadique Bay is one of these players. He is 67, 215 pound guard. The dude plays multiple position. He gritty, very talented. And I mean, the guy can score like he’s a the most he’s averaged in his second year with Detroit was 16 points a contest with five rebounds and three assists. He the most he the best shooting he did he did was in the the year he played with Atlanta. He shot 40% from down from the three-point line. So, I mean, the guy could play ball 14 points, 6 and a half rebounds, and assists and a half, 41% shooting. So if you know anything about Sadique Bay, gritty defensive player with offensive game could play a multitude of different positions and it’s a good type of player to have in a Joe Dumos uh mindseted team, you know, versatile player. But 15 14 points a game and 20 points a game, that’s pretty damn good for what we, you know, for what the Pelicans have. Then of course the window on the Pelicans is two years like we talked about what they were mentioning about the Pelicans and where do we go in and in in terms of is it a win now situation it has to be you you have and Sadique on two-year contracts Kavon Lewon he’s on the two yeah Looney and Bay who going to all be mo these guys going to be key reserves and Kavon Looney probably going to end up starting for the Pelicans who’s a starter and Sadique Bay a key reserve player all those guys on two-year contracts So whatever you going to do, you got to do it now. So we ain’t got time to screw around Willie Green with his F stuff if you know what I mean. So yeah, we got some good players here is the bottom line. But once again, like I said, for people who know the Pelicans, you know, the problem with the Pelicans isn’t so much the players. You know, we know about the injury situation. I don’t that’s the one thing uh that the Pelicans have not addressed. That’s another issue. But outside of that, man, it’s the coaching. The coaching is the problem. Willie Green is not a very good coach. We know that this year, boy, that boy on a on a a filthy burning chair. He I mean he everybody looking at him over the next 20 games to see what he can get done. Get him the hell out of here if he can’t win. All right. So anyway, fam, let’s keep this thing moving, man. I just wanted to shout y’all out, man. It’s not going to be a very long episode of the Pelican Postgame Report. I just want to drop some science with y’all on some of the latest stuff on our Pelicans, man. Uh and the fact that yes, we did pick up a new coach, the Pels. uh picked up a new assistant coach to kind of help out. What do you guys think about the addition of this new coach the Pelicans bring in? Do you think it’ll have uh an impact on the Pel winning? What do you guys think about that? What do you think uh about the player about what the Pals have done? Not in so far as the lineups of who we bringing in cuz of course, you know, uh Trey Alexander was added, you know, to the team on the two-way. We got some very interesting two-way players as well. Uh Hunter Dickinson. A lot of people have their reserves on Hunter Dickinson. Not a very physical big as an offensive game to him. The two ways are very interesting. A lot of these this a lot of this is um not dated correctly. But yes, uh Peavey uh the the draft picks of Queen and um and the rest of these guys coming in. It’s going to be very intriguing to see how the Pel’s mixing Jeremiah Fears and when Derek Queen gets healthy, how do you mix these guys in into the reserve units to have success? You know, I know my my I think starting off for this upcoming season, open the season up. My starting five would be P, Herb Jones, Prey, Zion, and Looney. That would be my starting five. That would be my my original. That would be my five to open up the season with. And I think that would be impressive because with pool you have the scoring ability. He also can assist for you. Herb Jones is your defensive stopper who can hit a three-point shot for you in the corner wide open. Trey Murphy, you know what he brings. Zion’s gravity. And Kayon Looney is a smart undersized big that can run the floor, clean up the offensive glass, you know, pass the ball. Just smart knows knows where to be on the court. And of course on the backups you probably end up having to get Jay Fears and Derek Queen with Sadique Bay and Jordan Hawkins or however you want to mix your second unit. But to me, you know, that would be my starting five opening up the season. I I mean opening up the start five with with Herb, Trey, Zion, Looney. What do y’all think about that? That what I would do. That right there. If you starting to open up, you got the Pelicans out the door. You got that kind of lineup, man. And you got a a 20-point shooter, a scorer in pool. You got Herb’s defensive acument there. Kavon Looney’s defensive acument. Zion Williamson is gravity. Trey Murphy doing what Trey Murphy does. I like that. We have to figure out the backups, but I think that’s a good tandem to have to start the year off. Then you mixing Queen Fierce Hawkins cuz you got to get Hawkins in there. First round draft pick in there. I think that’s probably why Reeves ain’t here. They was trying to make sure Hawkins get as much time as he can. He got that first round grade. They want to make Joe Hawkins do something. And of course, we talked about uh the Jonte Murray picking up 14 pounds. Uh whatever the case may be. I hope he was bringing Jordan Hawkins with him. Whatever the Jonte Murray was doing, the reporter talked about uh him adding 14 lbs to his frame or whatever it was. Did he do he take Jordan Hawkins with him? Can he take Jordan Hawkins to whatever restaurant he ate at so this man can pick up some weight? you know, he’s 6’5 or whatever he say is and he need and he’s still, you know, lighting ass. We need him to pick up some weight, man. He need to get stronger, man. He still look like a a college He still look like a college player, man. Gotta pick up some weight.
