This Is Genuinely ABSURD…
This is genuinely absurd. And you know we’re in the depths of the off seasonason when your favorite team is constantly being linked to literally every player in the league. Whether they’re available or not, whether they’re happy or upset, the Dallas Mavericks just can’t seem to run away from the rumors that they are in hot pursuit of literally every player. And over the entire season last year and this summer, we’ve gone over every little report, whether that was Carl Anthony Towns, Jimmy Butler, Giannis, Kevin Durant, or LeBron James several times. But earlier today, an article dropped highlighting another player added to the long list of players that we want to go after. And that player is Trey Young. The same Trey Young that we drafted many years ago, then traded away for Luca, and then traded away for Anthony Davis. So maybe there’s a roundabout way where the team tries to get Trey Young back. But in this video, we’re going to take a look at that report, see if there’s any credibility to it, if there’s a possibility that we could get Trey Young, and I’ll give you my reasons why it ain’t happening. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we are currently sitting at 21,711 subscribers. We are less than 100 days away from the start of the NBA season. We are less than 300 subs from our goal of 22K. So, if you want to be up to date on everything Mavericks related, even the dumb reports, cuz you know I’m going to report on them, make sure you subscribe. But the Dallas Mavericks just can’t seem to run away. I mean, when you’ve got a GM that trades away Luca in the dead of night, yes, the odds makers, the reporters, and everybody else will assume that your team is going to make more trades to try to get literally every star in the league and just build some weird super team. Over the summer and the season, we’ve gone over every report, whether that was Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Carl Anthony Towns. The reports and rumors will never end, and they still won’t end to the point where earlier today I had to drop this tweet. Trey Young really Trey Young. I mean, I know we’re not going to have Kyrie Irving for half the season, but we got D’Angelo Russell, we got Brandon Williams, we are trying to make room for Dante, as well as we still have Jaden Hardy at the time of recording. And I’m not saying that those players are all better than Trey Young, but we have point guards. We’ve got point guards that can hold it down till Kyrie Irving returns. Why would we try to go after another point guard like Trey Young? He’s not bad, but to me, it just doesn’t make sense. But the article that came out earlier today titled Mavericks to aid Cooper Flag with former first round pick. So, let’s see what this article has to say. It as follows. The article says, “The Dallas Mavericks haven’t done a bad job in giving number one overall draft pick Cooper Flag a solid supporting cast. Yes, Kyrie Irving will be out for probably half the 2025 2026 season as he rehabs his torn ACL, but there’s still Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis. Though they may both be past their days of being elite, and many may consider the three injuryprone, it’s still good veteran experience that the team is building around Flag. Not to mention that there’s still reliable options on the floor. And yes, Klay Thompson being our oldest player, I get it. He’s probably past his prime. Still able to give you something on the floor. And Anthony Davis is only a year younger than Kyrie Irving, I don’t think he’s past the his prime or being elite. That’s more so on the side of him being injuryprone. If he’s healthy, he could play at an MVP caliber level, but that’s if he’s healthy. So, yes, to that point, I definitely understand it. But the article does continue by saying, “But now there is talk of the Mavericks adding another supporting to the long-term future they plan to have with the Duke superstar, and it’s a star they’re all too familiar with.” According to Jonah of the Athlon Sports, there have been talks of the team going after Atlanta Hawks point guard Trey Young, whom the Mavericks drafted with a fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft before trading with the Hawks and receiving Luca Donic. Young, a four-time all-star, led the NBA in assists last season with 11.6 six and would be the perfect option to feed Flag and the other stars the ball with Young also being a perfect scorer himself. The Hawks point guard is one season away from being eligible for an opt out and should he opt in, the Mavericks will be able to offer him a maximum deal in the offseason of the 28th season. However, Young has also been linked to the San Antonio Spurs to back up Victor Ribyama. So, the two Texas Hoops team could be at a tugof-war for Young if he decides to leave Atlanta. So, a lot to just break down there. Yes, the Dallas Mavericks apparently are interested in Trey Young and they’re trying to weigh their options, I guess. And my opinion, it’s probably nothing. More than likely, the team are the team is looking at players that are either available now or next season. And obviously, Trey Young isn’t available now. He’s a player option next season. However, he doesn’t have an extension. There’s been no talks of it. There’s been rumors and rumblings of him not being happy. We did hear a few years ago where he did he did ask for a trade. he offered himself up to be traded away from the team. There have been a push and pull relation between Trey Young and the Atlanta Hawks, but as of right now, things seem to be pretty lukewarm with with Trey Young and the Hawks. The Dallas Mavericks themselves are should be fine with what they have. They should be very happy with their cast. Like I said, we’re trying to make room for Dante Exom. We won’t have Kyrie Ring for half the year, but we do have D’Angelo Russell. We got Brandon Williams. And we have Jaden Hardy. Not the best point guard rotation, but it’s a point guard rotation nonetheless. And no knock to Trey Young. He is a great player. If we take a look at how well he played last season in 36 minutes per game, Trey Young put up 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 11.6 assists,2 blocks, 1.2 steals, four 4.7 turnovers, and 1.9 fouls per game while shooting 41% from the floor, and 34% from three. And those numbers are really good. I mean, Trey Young, four-time all-star, he has the numbers to back it up. Like I said, he did make the Eastern Conference Finals a few years ago. who struggled to find his way back, but the team has been making strides and moves to improve the roster. But a player like Trey Young with 24 points per game, 11 assists on the Dallas Mavericks, that’s not bad. But of course, there’s one thing a lot of fans would quickly point out is that defense wins championships. And Trey Young doesn’t play defense. Now, if your point guard isn’t the best defender, but literally all four players are, then sure, it could definitely work. You see it on the Atlanta Hawks. Tyson Daniels is an amazing defender to the point where sure Trey Young can try his best on defense but they have other defenders. So if you put that on the Dallas Mavericks, sure Trey Young playing alongside Cooper Flag, Anthony Davis. We’ve seen Kyrie Irving play very well alongside Luca Donic. So Kyrie Irving could side to the two. Trey Young to the one. Not saying Trey Young and Luca are the same. However, we’ve seen it work before, meaning that we could try to make it work again. I think Trey Young would be great playing alongside Dive as well in the pick and roll, which we know Dive loves absolutely the best and he’s very really good at it. So yes, in many ways, Trey Young to the Dallas Mavericks, it can work in many different aspects, but the money ain’t going to work and that’s the most important thing that we got to look at. Trey Young is up to make about $45 million this upcoming season. That’s more than what we can afford in a trade. We have a lot of players on teamfriendly contracts. We can’t just give up one or two players and make it work. Unless you want to give up Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving for Trey Young. And I doubt the Hawks look at Kyrie. Well, maybe Kyrie, maybe not AD, as players that they gladly part ways with Trey Young for. If we take a look at the money specifically, Trey Young is owed $45 million upcoming season. So, there’s no way a trade happens. Now, however, like I said, there is a player option next season for Trey Young. And if he were to opt out of it, sure, we could offer him a max deal and we could get him. And if he decides to opt in, then sure, the next season we’ll offer him a maximum deal. And that year would be the season that Klay Thompson would retire. Some players come off the books. So, we would have the money to offer Trey Young. Trey Young would be older, 29 years old. I’d argue that he would not be old being 29, but more so in his prime. And that would be the best year to really go after a player like Trey Young. And I don’t think it would be a bad idea. I know some fans don’t like Trey Young. I’m not that high on him myself, but if he was on the Dallas Mavericks, I think he could find more success with what we have going on. A trade would hurt this team too much. And that’s the reason why we didn’t trade for Kevin Durant. We didn’t trade for LeBron because we give up way too much. The Dallas Mavericks, the way we are currently constructed with our salaries, we have guys on team friendly deals, meaning we don’t have bad salaries that we can dump. Unless you want to move Kyrie or AD, and I’d argue that really wouldn’t solve any of your problems. It would just create more. But one of the many reasons why Trey Young may just stay in Atlanta is his relationship with his coach. And if we take a look right here uh from the Hawks um from Hawks lead on Twitter per Jake Fischer, extension negotiations between Trey Young and the Hawks are not on the table this summer. There’s no indication that Trey Young is actively seeking a move out of Atlanta. Young’s reported frustration over his contract stems mainly from the Hawks never initiating extension talks. Another factor in Atlanta and Young’s optimism for next season, his strong bond with coach Quinn Snyder. So, reasons why Trey Young could be upset is the money. There’s no extension. There’s been no talks. The team hasn’t come to him yet. But also, he doesn’t seem like he wants to leave Atlanta as well as he does have a good working relationship with his head coach. So, as of right now, I would label this whole situation as lukewarm. The Mavericks are probably just thinking out loud about players that they could go after either now or next season as we do have this two timeline situation of compete now, prepare for Cooper Flag’s future. I’d argue that you can do both, but it depends on the moves you make now and in the future moving forward. Let me know in the comment section down below. What do you think? Do you think that Trey Young could really find his way in Dallas? Do you think this could happen next year, this year, or never? Let me know what you think in the comment section down below. We’d have a conversation about it. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thank you this far to the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. We know the Day and the Hour. Fall Feasts Must be Fulfilled still. Feast of Trumpets 🎺 Rapture. Day of Atonement Second Coming. And Tabernacles 1000 year Reign. We Will be CHANGED AT THE LAST TRUMP. 🥳 🎉 🎊 🍾 🥂
Doesnt make sense if Nico is steadfast on his "defense wins championships" remarks
Rumor on the street is that mavs are trying to get caitlin clark for her playmaking ability
If we respond to all stupid Mavs rumors, you'll never run out of content 🤣
Another fake ass video on another nothingburger
C'mon bro, Trae is definitely better than our pg's lol
ain’t nothing going to happen. when ducks have lips
Personally I don't want Trae Young his only good numbers are assists and it would've been helpful if we didn't get Dlo and Trae is a FA next summer plus Trae is a defense liability and I would rather have Dlo over Trae bc Dlo can play defense unlike Trae Young who can't even gaurd a sloth out there on the court and Mavs would be way over the 2nd apron if they go for Trae which means we would give up on our depth. Yeah bro I am good on Trae Young I will pass no ty.
Won't happen but seems more legit than the LeBron rumors at least.
Ahh hearing you say it would work if they trade Kyrie 2 times made me sad😢😂 hate the thought of Kyrie not retiring with the Mavs
Ngl Trae would most definitely be a great addition on the team and I wouldn’t be mad going after him as long as the pieces are correct(obviously money is another matter). He would elevate our bigs and provide deep back court gravity
