Dallas Mavs Daniel Gafford’s ELITE Big Man Scoring Workout | Floaters, Hooks & Shooting Touch
What up, guys? I’m NBA master trainer Chris Johnson and welcome to my channel. Up. You see the clock? Ready? Up. Up. Got it. Boom. Up. Nice. 1 2 3. [Music] Just who is in the building? If you haven’t, make sure you turn on your post notifications today. Right there. Click that bell and go and like and subscribe to my channel. I just want to get on the drive here and pop your feet. Slight bump. Go with me. Yeah, you got to move. Give me that. Slight bump. Bump. Now, when you here, I want to get my feet back to the baseline. Right to your hook. So, I want to take up the space with your hip and the back side of your ass. So, here. Drive up. Bump. See how I took up space and I got back here. Now I’m going to get back in. No shoulder effect or anything. Just straight. I want you to focus on moving. Okay. So, right here, we’re going to be good. Base. Take a straight. Yeah. All right. You got to drive it. Drive it. Drive it. And then bump. It’s It’s one of the hardest things at the end of a drive. Base. Drive it. Drive. Right there. Now you had it now. Oh, so right after the bump. It’s a bump on that drive. It’s a you know how physical it is. So right there but you got to be physical. Okay. You you on that one drive as you going. Come here. Just right here. Imagine catching a pocket here. Yeah. Okay. I just got to drive and take space. So while I’m taking space, I’m turning my feet all at the same time. Yeah. Yeah. But it ain’t even about the moving. Yeah. It’s about I need I need the space. Yep. Feet feet square here. Good. Take a space right there. You see what I’m saying? You’re going to get to that if I take space. It’s going to happen. It’s going to happen. But a lot of times we just go here. I just No, no, no. Yep. So imagine he’s a pocket. Get base. Now you get one dribble on that. Take it space. Yep. More physical. One more. One more with that shoulder. Base low. Take it up. Boom. Right there. Ah, get your feet. Yeah. So your feet on that bump. One more. I’m more worried about the bump. Yeah, because I want you to take that space. Crown me a little bit. I want to take that. See how I turn? I’m bumping. That’s right. I’m bumping and turning. I can go get out of the way. He can’t stop me. But a lot of times it gets so physical here. Now keep pushing, coach. Keep pushing. You wind up here. I’m going to bump you and take your space. That’s how you take my guys that fade. Yeah, that’s how we got the footwork because like got like Kobe D and we going and he see I took up the space now he going to fade you but he not going he going to take up the space in the air. Yeah. Ready? Here we go. We here take up space. Ah. Now get there. Yeah. Get there. I said drive. Drive. Jump and turn. There you go. Good. You’ll get to the hook. You just blew me up there. Two more. Base. There. There it is. Good. Knee one. Yes. It’s getting And then jump and then get your body swing. Jump into There you go. Got it. So now we’re going to take the same thing and get to the left hook. Okay. Get to the base first. Base low bump. Yes. Right there. But you see how when you bump, you get to read. So the whole point the whole point is bumping first. Okay. It’s like don’t worry about the shot. Don’t worry about the shy. Let’s just see what he on. And if he really on some weak [ __ ] when you’re driving here, watch how I take this drive here into that. I’mma take from this line into that line. I’m going That’s what we was on earlier. That’s where my go. So the guy got to be really good. Yeah. And cut that off. Cut that line off. So then you count. Now you got the count. Now you got the space. So now when he hear when I pumped I’m right back here every It’s like somebody threw me a pass. Initial post up. It’s initial post up, but it’s off the dribble. Facts. Okay. Ready? Give me one. Base going to the left, right? Yep. Yep. Turn. Ah. Yep. So that way you popping your feet. Turn your feet as you jump. Turn. There it is. Got it. He want It’s tough, bro. Once you get it though, you’re like, “Oh [ __ ] he might pocket.” And on that pocket. Ready co store here. Pocket. So, I’m here. Pocket drop. Boom. Right there. That’s what it should look like. Bump. We good. Now, I want him to dribble. So, you do you need one. We go side up. Up. Right. That’s your best one. That was your That was your best one by far because you It’s the physicality part of just like you said with your boxing. Uhhuh. Everything that I teach in basketball is boxing. Studying Floyd Mayweather, all the guys. Because now it’s it’s not just moves, it’s movement. Like my body, okay, if I don’t have my hand, I’m going to get hit my feet. So when you watch pace now on and on that dribble, how do I take his space up? So how do I get to his How do I get to the body? If I’m look, I got to look. Most guys don’t even look. They don’t even they don’t even know. They just going. So same thing. Ready? Good. Bump and then get back to them. Bump. Yep. Uhuh. Get that left base. Yep. Get to that left. But still take up the space. Take up the space. Take There you go. Up behind the back, boy. Up. Yep. Come on. Ready. Base. Base. Base. No. Take it out. There you go. That’s the one. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz I can feel the bump. Ready? Yep. Yep. Got it. You see what you did? do this same thing we did forward as I just took up the space going like this here under control. Now the guy got to close and now I’m just taking up the space where I’m taking up space and my feet are turning so I create all that. So you get back to the middle now. Okay. Take up space up. Turn right there. Got it. One. Beautiful. Thanks driving balance. Yes. And you should be able to almost sit like you could get to your face off of that. Okay. Ready? Bump. Bump. Bump. Back. Face. Got it. Let’s go. Middle. That’s beautiful. Same. So, you want to take up this space right here. Take it up. Ready, coach? I took out all of that extra. Good, coach. Here. So, I’m driving it. Same everything. See that body? Yep. Just here. Look where my feet is. I could be driving the ball. I could be here on a short pocket. Short pocketing me. Now I’m see it’s all no matter where you at, you don’t get back here. You can catch it here. Coach split a lot. What we’re doing with DeAndre today, remember what we doing with DeAndre all week. So now I’m on the drive. I’m back. I’m always getting back to this. Now, when you get here, we’re going to get back to that left hand hook. You’re going to initially bump low up. Boom. Right there. You see how you move? You just move in pieces. So, now stay good. You can cover ground. Cover ground. Boom. Boom. Up. Good. A little bit more. Yeah. That’s the only thing I’m working. Back up a step. So, that way you feel like you good. Yeah. But that’s why I want you to feel like you can. Yes. Did you feel the diff? Yeah. But you can That was That was one of the best ones. Base right up. Nice. Perfect. Good. So now let’s get back to your hitch. Hitch. Right hand hook. Same there. Now right back to that right hand hook. Ready? Base. Low. Ah. You didn’t body. Y. Yep. And then you’ll get the two feet. No pivot. Yep. Two feet. No pivot. Come on. There it is. See how you get to pick your pivot. Yeah. Two feet. No pivot. Back up. One step cuz you got good stride. Okay. Drive it. Drop it. Boom. Right there. Got it. Get in there. I like that. And you protect the ball. Did you see where I went? Watch how I did. Go. Go. See that? Slow it down. You see how you protect the ball with your body as you move it? A lot of times a travel when especially you catch a small switch anything here come as he going a lot of times he can dig that out and the guy off balance he try to run into him I turn two feet I’m here he can’t do [ __ ] cuz I just move it and if I can what you’ll turn on him and dunk his ass boom we’re going to be on this side that’s good ready babe Stay solid. Styling. Be a good driver. Back to it. Yeah. You saw how you went right, left. Yeah. Now, we will get to that. But if I can get you Yes. Yes. Cuz remember on your first one when we split, we attack like this. And we still got here bump. And then you was able to make your read. If you if you get off of right, left, it lit. Yes. So that way you get to choose what direction based off of what I do. Ready. Base. Base. Good drive. Take a space. Good. Right there. Got it. One. You say you get to Can you see? Yeah. We go left. Did you see how you get to choose your the spot? Watch the body when you drive it. Watch your whole body. Box. Box. Right there. That’s all you doing. Box. Bump. Tag. One more. Ready to do a box up. Box right there. Now watch how I take the bump and I’m going to get there and then you roll back off to your right. Ready? Back out. One step right there. Jump. Ah, you didn’t bump. Bump. Got you. Yeah. Think about think about the big bigger body guys when they Tristan trying. Yeah. So you use that bump right there. Right there. Cuz they’re going to force you to make the hook, but he going to take up space. They going to take up other space. I got you. Ready? Bump. up. Turn. Got it. Good. Knee one. There you go. Free throw. See, you clear space that time. Yeah. You don’t have It’s just the space. So, every time you see it, you should be catching and you’re looking at your space like, “Okay, do I space him where we going to next? If they too far, we’re going to touch float them. Everything in there, soft hook, turn, dunk. Now we’re going to push out. Now it’s just that touch game. Mhm. Nice on your feet. Coach your pass when you slide here. I want you to get into it, too, because I’m looking at driving those angles because on one, we’re gonna work baseline drive, work, middle drive, but just catching right here and sliding into it and letting the game slow down to where you can read it. You don’t rush it or nothing. Okay, ready? Here we go. Yep. Yep. You And you should feel like you got your dribble, but just when you’re hopping, you’re reading. So when the ball’s in the air the whole time you look the whole time because if he even make one mistake and he close high I’m by him. Yeah. If he close low we spinning on. So it’s like what is he doing? Ready. So hop. Good. Right there. One. Nice. Perfect. Good. Up. Good. There it is. Up. Good. Two. Good. Up. Nice. Three. Perfect. Up. Four. Nice. Up. Good. Five. Give me that. You good? Perfect. Good. Got it. Perfect. Perfect. So, now we’re going to attack that. Coach, you going to make that pass? I want a crab dribble baseline on that. So, I want to turn my whole body this way. And I want to move him with the hips and the glutes. So, on that pass, I want to turn the whole body. See how we always moving? You get across and you can dunk that. So it’s that crab dribble body square move coach right here. Yeah. Let’s walk through it. See you can see it. So see I boom. Yeah. You got to be ready though for that. You and you got Yeah. Because you can slide the baseline. There’s the referee here, but he can’t push you out. A lot of times when you drive, you see bigs drive here, they close through it and they drive like this. I want to turn it because he got to be there and turn. Now I’ll jump back into you. You can you can jump back. You can jump across. So based on that up, boom. Right there. Huh? You see what I’m saying? You took that off of a guy playing twoman game and saying, “I’mma close and you’ll get that.” Now when I close, I’mma Draymond green you and get here. And that same footwork will spin and dunk that. Ready? Back it up. Watch up. Up. Right there. So now I want to take the same thing and I’mma jab and stab and do a little quicker. Okay. So now I want the bump left hand floater going middle. Spin off. Nah, you won’t spin. It’s going to face right there. Oh jab. Okay. Hell yeah. But but it ain’t a jab. It’s called playing off the catch cuz you’ll see the guards doing it. So, we treat the same thing everywhere on the court. So, if I’m teaching a guard, you know, they talk about closing out and but right there. Yes. Cuz you don’t have a pivot. And if I’m reading when the ball is in the air, watch. I’m looking at my flo. Watch this. See how my my feet are way ahead of my brain. Now, I’m reading him. So, when my feet bend across and he pocketing, boom. Now, I’m blowing him up. So, let’s walk through that. Then you going to get the left hand floater. Slide, push, blu, you going. Yeah, cuz you want the smoke. When you shoulder, bump, float. Got you. Because if you go there, then you give me a chance to just feel like I’m a great. Now, if you going to be great, you better be great because the second bump, you’ll dunk my ass. Ready? Baseline. Oh, bump. Right there. Float. You see what I’m saying? Cuz if I’m able to take the one bump, my jump, it’s so hard to take a a bump and and then try to second jump somebody. You got to be [ __ ] good. Yeah. So, start it. Slide it. Ready? Slide it up. Up. Boom. Right there. Got it. You see that? Now, I’mma close down early. You take two and put me in the rim. We’ll go side. Got back it up. All right. You running. Let your feet read up up. Get there. Got it. Other side. So that’s with two dri two two dribbles bully. But just that first initial bump. Like I get to my bump floater. Yeah. It’s a bump. You see how we starting to take everything into like, oh, it’s a bump hook. Oh, it’s a bump floater. He can’t contest me. I want you to shoot like 60 70%. So you got to take up space and hooks, floaters, dunks. Okay. Ready? So, same thing. Square and then slide your feet. Yep. One. Perfect. Yep. That’s it. You’ll slide into it, too. Slide. Slide. There you go. Good. You feel that momentum? So, you re let your feet be first. Up. Nice. Up. Nice. Good. Got you. One. Back up some gap. You got good range. Good touch on that. Yep. Five. Good. One more. One more. Two feet. There you go. Grab the baseline. Ready? Splitting two. Turn and square. You still low. Still low cuz you want to use the spacing of it, right? You’re too high. No man’s land. Lower. We’re going to work on relocation. Corner. Yep. Sure. Crab. Crap. Crap. Crap. Grab up. Boom. Hit that. Yeah, that’s the one. Yep. That’s all right. 215 country bone. Oh [ __ ] [ __ ] Hey. Yeah. You see what happened there? You can’t do [ __ ] because a lot of times the charge circle here. So when a guy try to break down Yeah. got talent. Okay. Got you. A lot of times when a guy here his first initial step isn’t like here. So you can blow him up all day. Off balance. He going to be off balance. A good defender initial step will be here. Now we’re going to spin it. Play that 215. He moved me that time. At first I flex. Then y’all run it back. But run the film. When I flex, he came right back and he moved my ass. It ain’t no joke, dude. 610 265. Shoot. Dang, that’s why I’m in shape. So for all you coaches that are just standing on the sideline telling people what to do, let’s work on building our community. Just win way. We get in shape. We eat the right foods. We put the right foods in our body. We taking care of our body. We going to sleep at night. We treating people beautiful. But get on the court while you can. While you can. I turned 47 on Wednesday. And I’m going to stay on the court while I can. I’ll be 60ome years old on the court moving in the best shape of my life. And this is how I stay physically fit, mentally fit, spiritually fit. So for my coaches and trainers, get out there, move your body a little bit, get into the best shape, and wake those muscles back up so you can feel amazing. I do. Ready? All right. Low. Read it. Read it. Footwork. Stay. Same. Up. Turn. Got it. All right. Yeah. Get to that rim. You get to that rim. Yep. Yeah. Because you already your momentum and balance should be there. Drive it. Drive it. Charge up. Boom. Got it. There you go. So now let’s get bump floater off of that. Still facing low shoulder. You’ll get to that P. Yeah. Bump. Yeah. Bump. And you’re pushing off that left foot. It’s quick because me and you going to dance. Ready as you stand. It’s quick. Boom. Boom. Right there. That’s it. But you see you see how quick that is. Cuz now I can grab you. I can spin you. Now I can attack you here. Boom. Boom. Boom. Up. Oh, I won that. Yeah. You see what you did? Good facing that way. A good bump. Nah, cuz you want to be there. Yeah. Up. Up. There you go. Go. That’s a good bump. Ready. Two B. Two dribbles. Get that up. One, two. Got it. Perfect. Three. Yes, sir. Touch one. I want to stay on this side of the court. So now as I’m shuffling through, I don’t allow that nail guy to get over and dig. If I roll too wide, it’s easy for him. And then there’s no action for the rest of the team. If I stay close, watch my crossover step. Crossover. So in a crossover step, it makes it ball man, left hand floater. And if I [ __ ] up or play it wrong, I can drive right through. Okay. Ready? Gotcha. Start another side. Yep. So just right here in the big shuffle, crossover step. That’s it. One. Nice. That crossover step is critical because when you cross over, it’s reading. It’s reading. Reading right there. Yeah. So, when you’re reading, what happens is as you cross over, if that guy there bump, now we back to where we want to be. So, you can clear space or you can drive him on a crossover and be quick body bump. Boom. So, it happens off of your footwork. We got two. Ready? Pocket. Good crossover. Nice. Got you. Three. Need two more. Good. Up. Pocket. Cross over. There you go. Four. Nice. A little higher. Tight to this side. Pocket. Yep. Five. Other side. That’s beautiful. You You see what I’m talking about? That crossover step cuz you always got the lead. You got everything, bro. I can do You step right. Yeah. And crossover bump. Yeah. Cross over step. Bump. Boom. Right. Right off of it. So that’s it. That everything we was working on is getting you from here there step step and that’s that’s what your ball handling should be every day. It’s like what what am I going to be working on in the game? So whatever that is, it’s the same [ __ ] every day. That’s your warm up. Your warmup should be that. Yeah. All day. Yeah. It shouldn’t be nothing. Thing I’ve been doing if I’m getting up and down and stuff that just boom. is here. Work on your work on your That’s all it is. Ready? Sit. Cross over. Right hand. Nice. One. Perfect. Good. Pocket up. Two. Nice. Little higher right there. Drop. Good. Yeah. Good footwork. Nice. Little higher up. Pocket up. Got it. Knee one. That’s beautiful. Up. Free throw. Give me five of them. Yeah. So, that’s how bar handling should be warmed up. It should activate your feet. It should activate exactly what we’re going to do. So, I knew right away I wanted you to drive. I want you to stop. I want you to move your feet. That’s all it is in in a handle. Pop pop. Now, where I got to go on the court mapping. Yeah. Toe tap. So, on that footwork. Yeah. On that footwork, just getting your base. Everything’s about the base, but getting back underneath it here. One, two. All the way from there. Good. You ready? I’ll get you one more. We good. Let him hold one. One up. Nice. Two. Up. Three. Perfect. Up. Four. Up. Five. Up. I like it. That’s good though. Up. Six. Coach, get that ball. Seven. Seven. Good. Pass it. You good? Good. Right there. Eight, coach. Nine. Good. 10. Coming back, coach. 11. Coming back, coach. 12. Coming back, coach. 13. Coming back. That’s good, though. Hold it. Hold it, coach. Yeah. Only thing, everything starts with your balance first. So, it’s footwork. Yeah, because I want to go footwork, then you’re going to step back natural. But if you start here, you’ll step there. So, if I start here, I’ll step back here. Yep. You got 14. Got it. Baseball. [Applause] Baseball out. 17. Yep. 18. Oh, 17. Coming. One. That’s it. Come on, coach. 19 20 [Applause] 21 [Music] Two, three, go. One [Applause] coming. Yep. Need two in a row. Coming. One. Yep. Four. Coach. Five. Other corner. Good job. Yeah. When you accentuate, when you accentuate the base, you’ll get back normal. But if you start right where you want to be, you’re going to narrow and it takes away from your balance. That was pretty good. Good B. One, coach. Two. [Music] Three. Three. Come. One. Nice gas. Four. Yep. Five. Yep. Six. Perfect. Perfect. Seven. Good. I got baseball coach. Eight. Nine. Got it. Got eight. Yep. Nine. Nine. 10. Good. 11. 13. [Applause] 14 15 [Music] coming 16 baseball out. 19 baseball. Got you. Go for it. Go two. Go two. 19. Up, up, up. 20, 21, 22. Yep. Stay with it, coach. Three. Four. Five. Top of key. Good job. One. One. Stay with it. Good. Two. Nice one. Three. There you go. Touch up. Five. Six. Six. Behind you, coach. Seven. Short. Eight. [Applause] Nine. Coach. 10. 11. 12. [Applause] 12. [Applause] 13. 14. Get in there. 15. 16. [Music] 16. You all right? 16. One. [Applause] Got it. 16. Stay with it. Yeah. 17. 18. 19. [Applause] 20. 1 2 3 4.
