NY Knicks Just Got GREAT NEWS
Are the New York Knicks long-term NBA finals contenders? We’re going to break that down on today’s show as ESPN has put out a recent article and I got to tell you where the New York Knicks rank. Before we do though, if you’re ready for the Knicks to win the NBA Finals to put a banner in the rafter of MSG, go down right now and hit that thumbs up icon. [Music] Welcome in to New York Knicks now by chat sports. I am your host, Marshall Green. Appreciate everybody for stopping by. On today’s show, we’re going to react to a recent article that ESPN put out where they put every single team into a tier and where they’re going to be over the next couple of years. And the Knicks, they landed in the longterm title contender tier, and that’s where you want to be. That was the highest tier in the article. They were joined by four other squads. The Cleveland Cavaliers, the Houston Rockets, our New York Knicks, the OKC Thunder, and the Orlando Magic. I think it’s a little premature to say the Magic are long-term NBA title contenders. Can they get to the conference finals first? Also, the Houston Rockets. How long is Kevin Durant going to be there? But I love that ESPN got this right because I do believe this Knicks team is built to win now. and into the future. They expanded their thoughts saying this. The Knicks locked in male Bridges on a four-year $150 million extension last month after getting Jaylen Brunson Inc. to his own long-term deal last season. New York now has five players, Bridges, Brunson, Carlan Towns, OG, and Josh Hart under contract through at least 2028. That’s the vision the franchise had for this group over the past 18 months to in theory give them a long runway. And that was the entire plan. I remember when James Dolan sat down with Jaylen Brunson and Josh Hart on the Roommates podcast said Leon Rose put this team together to compete now and in the long term and they are on the track to do so. And I just got to clap it up for Leon Rose, man. To think how far this organization has come. It’s not too long ago that we were hoping the pingpong balls were going to bounce our way so the Knicks could draft Zion Williamson number one overall. And it’s not too far removed from the Knicks not making the playoffs just a couple of years ago before they signed Jaylen Brunson, who saved basketball for New York City. And we all knew this was never going to be a quick fix. Like there are no quick fixes in team building. And if you do go for that quick fix and you cut a couple of corners, you may be able to compete right now, but it’s going to come back to bite you in the future. Like he built a winner and he didn’t sacrifice the future while doing it. And that’s what you want to see. That is the number one most important quality of a general manager, an executive of basketball operations, trying to put together a team that can build for today and win tomorrow. And the Knicks, they are built to do that. They’ve made the second round, two out of the last three years, and they made the Eastern Conference Finals this year. And the thing is, this team can still continue to get better. the players, they’re still young enough to where they can get better as the players and improve this team, but there’s also other ways for the Knicks to get better. They’re in a solid spot when it comes to being in the first apron or the second apron. Going to have to make a tough decision on Mitchell Robinson. Some of these male Bridges draft picks are going to fly by that went to the Nets and you’re going to have more ammunition to make a trade down the line. But the main reason you’re able to compete now and in the future is because your core, your top five guys are just now entering the prime of their NBA career. Jaylen Brunson still just 28 years old. Male Bridges still just 28 years old. Josh Hart, the old head of the group at 30. OG Anobi, he’s actually the youngest of these five players. I didn’t think that when I was looking up this information. And Carl Anthony Towns, 29 years old, will turn 30 during the NBA season. And when you look at the Knicks cap sheet and you view like where do all these contracts line up, you can see that there’s going to be somewhat of a hard reset either in the 2028 2029 season as OG and an Obi has a player option, Jaylen Brunson has a player option, Carl Anthony Towns is a free agent, as is Josh Hart. And if OG and Brunson opt into those player options, you’re going to have only one player on your roster in 2029, 2030, and that is Male Bridges. So, they’ve done a good job of accumulating talent, getting them on the same timeline, and opening up the championship window with hopefully no end to that window in near sight. You got to be hyped up about what Leon Rose has done. Shout out to everybody in the front office. Gerson Rosas, Brock Aller, everybody that has decision-making power also worldwide west. I guess my question to you is this. Do you think a core of Brunson, Bridges, Anobi, Hart, and Towns, can that five win an NBA championship? Type Y for yes, type N for no. I do think they can. I also think that the Knicks are probably going to have to continue to improve their bench. I don’t necessarily know if a bench of Jordan Clarkson and Gershon Yabiselli can do it. I think they can’t. I don’t know that. But I do believe that the 2025 2026 NBA season might be the best chance for the Knicks to win the NBA finals. The East is worse than it was last year. It’s probably the worst the conference has been in a long time thanks to some injuries. The Celtics, they’re dealing with Jason Tatum and his Achilles. You also look at the Indiana Pacers. They’re dealing with Tyrese Hallebertton, his Achilles injury. I think it’s the Knicks and I think it’s the Cavs and they’re on a collision course to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Magic who are listed in that contender tier, they’re still young. Are the Atlanta Hawks ready to contend? The East is open. The Knicks, they got to take advantage of that opportunity. Coming up next, some scheduling information for the Knicks has been released. We know who they’re playing on opening night. We know who they’re playing on Christmas Day. And as always, they’re going to play on MLK Day, and I’ll tell you who they’re going to be going up against. But first, I want to let you guys in on a secret. If you go to this link, chatsports.com/nike sale. This link and this link only. This Nick’s Nike t-shirt, it is on sale. And I’ve been told the sale is going to end on Friday. So, go get your shirt today and get it while it’s on sale. So, you’re ready for game one of 82, which the New York Knicks will be taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers opening night on ESPN, October 22nd. The NBA will open up on Tuesday, October 21st. Guess the Knicks aren’t big enough in prime time enough to play on that day, even though they always lead the NBA playoffs in ratings. I don’t really care. I kind of like playing the next day. We are taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Other notes, the Spurs will be taking on the Mavericks. And you guys saw the other stuff as well, but you’re going to get to see the Cleveland Cavaliers again on a prime time stage. I said it earlier, I think they’re on a collision course for the Eastern Conference Finals. And uh with them playing on opening day and again on Christmas Day, you’re going to get a preview of that. The Knicks that matinea tip off on Christmas Day at noon Eastern time followed by an awesome slate of NBA action. And then on MLK day, the New York Knicks will be taking on the Dallas Mavericks and Cooper Flag. Probably should be Cooper Flag on this graphic instead of Anthony Davis. We got producer Sam in here. Huge Knicks fan. Actually changed from being a Mavericks fan to a Knicks fan once they signed Jaylen Brunson. Uh totally kidding. He’s rooting for the Mavs and uh he knows he’s catching an L on MLK day. Good matchup. I actually think the Mavericks are going to be better than some people expect this year. I want to talk about the Cleveland Cavaliers before we bounce on out of here. You’re playing them on opening night. You’re playing them on Christmas Day. They are the two teams with the best odds to not only win the Eastern Conference, but win the NBA Finals in the East. And they’re a really good team. Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Max Struce, Evan Mobley, Jared Allen. You could argue it’s one of the best starting fives in the NBA. They added Lonzo Ball in the offseason. If he’s able to stay healthy, I think that raises the ceiling for this team. I am a huge DeAndre Hunter fan. I loved that pickup last year. I called them trade deadline winners and I believe it’s going to help them even more this year. They’re a little bit more thin. No Tai Jerome. No Sam Merrill. Well, I think they actually did. Did they bring Sam Merryill back? I don’t remember. I know Ty Jerome. They did. Sam Merrill is back with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jerome’s a big loss. He was a huge scoreer for them off the bench. Lonzo ball, not much of a score, but it gives you more defensive versatility to where you can have Garland or Mitchell run the point at all time with Lonzo guarding those twos. They’re a good team. There’s no doubt about it. But the New York Knicks, they’re a damn good team as well. And my final question for all the real ones is to be honest, which team do you think is better, Knicks, Cavs? Let me know your thoughts. And make sure you are following me on social media. I’m tweeting about the Knicks all day every day, and I post short form content about the Knicks as well on Instagram. So give me a follow at Marshall Green [Music]

I think this Knicks core can win a championship under Mike brown just because of his creativity on offense and his discipline on defense that he will instill in his players. Side note tho I think the Knicks are out on Ben Simmons cuz Ian begley on his show today mentioned that if he had to guess that shamet would get that vet minium spot and the Knicks would be looking at someone with a familiar face. I hope they resign shamet because I think he could be a much better fit on a championship roster than anyone else that the Knicks have been rumored to. If ya don’t know he was on the suns when they went to the finals as a 9/10th man so we will see
