It was on your publication inquir.com. Came up in my feed today saying that according to Forbes, the 76ers will bring back the black iconic Allen Iverson jerseys this year. Have you known this? And if you have known this, how dare you hold out on me, friend? What’s going on? I mean, I didn’t know it 100% officially. Like you I mean, dude, they’ve been teasing them for the last couple years and they’re like, “Oh, yeah. They’ll come out. They’ll come back.” But, um, nah, I didn’t like know that it was going to be 100% official. But, uh, I guess they they gave the information to Forbes, which is which is cool. Um, it seems like you’re really excited about these jerseys, huh? I I I I I gotta tell you, Keith, this to me like the great like I grew up in the era of no championships. Like the I was like eight months old uh when the Sixers won in 83. Okay. I’m my name my dad doesn’t like to say I’m named after Mark Ivoroni, but my name was inspired by the acquisition of Mark Ivoron. Okay. Are you serious? I’m dead serious. He was acquired in August. I was born in September. And my dad obviously Italian-American. He just liked an Italian American playing for the six weeks. Yeah. And um he was like, “Oh, he spells it with a C as well.” Anyway, it’s a full it’s a whole story. But anyway, yeah. Uh so I didn’t grow up in any like 93 the 93 Phillies was cool. That was a great run obviously. But Allen Iverson in 2001 Keith for me in my generation I was like 17 uh whatever. Yeah. About 17 18 years old. And for my high school years, man, Allen Iverson was it the end all be. And that jersey became the representation of that entire era, that that entire Iverson era. And since then, you’ve heard guys, and you I’ll just say you’ve heard guys come in here, and Tyrese Maxi is one of them, that have that iconic poster of Allen Iverson in the jersey stepping over Tyron Lou and all that. like that for my generation of fan is like such a great era to hearken back to. And when you see someone like Tyrese Maxi whose quickness and speed, just isolate those two things really remind you of Allen Iverson for the idea of seeing him in that jersey again. That is very exciting. And honestly, when this came up today on my feed, I went I I literally I got chills thinking about going back to that era again and just watching the I even watched a highlight reel of Allen Iverson’s, you know, playing days, obviously. Uh so yeah, it to me I think it means a lot I think to the fans of that era that that really brought you back into the Sixers. That that’s something that I think is really significant to a lot of people. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I just to me I think it’s gonna be great, but they better win. Like, take these jerseys off. Take these jerseys off. Man, they blown up by 20, but those jerseys. Yeah. Oh, man. The jerseys was fire. The defense, perimeter defense. But the jersey on that point, Keith, by the way, speaking of just the way people are dressed today, I want people to know on the podcast, Keith is uh looking good, my brother. Looking good, man. You got suit and tie on at the conference. You’re in Cleveland? Yeah. Yeah, in Cleveland. Yeah. I’m looking It’s funny. I’m looking at the uh you I’m looking at the Cleveland Browns stadium is uh Yeah. Yeah. That that’s probably like know how you doing. It’s it’s um it’s funny like the the Cleveland Browns stadium is is pretty cool. Like I remember it’s not I don’t I’m not going to say it’s like the Eagles. It’s not like the link or anything like that, but when you go out there you see big statues of Jim Brown. You see a couple other things. It’s right next to I’m looking at it now. You can see the uh the Hollywood um not the Hollywood, the um the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah. From Cleveland. Believe. That’s what the guy said this morning. Welcome to Cleveland. Good for them. I I will say I have been in that stadium and I did see Jim Brown. He he rode right by me and got out of his golf cart, grabbed his cane, and walked right by me right onto the field. I’ll never I’ll never forget it as long as I live. you give him the Philly salute. I just went, “Hey, Mr. Brown,” he and then it kept walking. That was that. Um, but uh yeah, I it is interesting you you you say the the thing about it. All that really matters is obviously how they play and that’s absolutely true because although I have been real, I think we’ve been real with everybody, there unfortunately isn’t a lot of positive things. So, when I saw this story, I I went, “Okay, top stories of the off seasonason here. You find out you’re going to get the number three overall pick that the tanking at the end of the season obviously worked. You got a player here that fans can believe in and VJ Edge. Uh there hasn’t been a lot of positivity surrounding the 76ers, and this is at least a nice call back to the to the days of of yester year. Something I want to transition to here because again the guy that I’m most excited to see wear this jersey simply because of the playing style is and speed and quickness is Tyrese Maxi because that’ll make me think of Allen Iverson even more. Um yeah, it’ll be cool to see Embiid in it. Uh yeah, absolutely. But just in terms of the the the reminder more so the Maxi camp, but Maxi has been working out for the past handful of offseasons with LeBron James. So, the question I and this has come up again because Maxi just talked about it on a recent podcast he did. Uh, when you hear about these players working out and they’re talking about same management, same representation and all that stuff. What really goes on at these workouts? Obviously, they’re working out. Obviously, they’re getting shots up. They’re playing in the gym and all that stuff, but how do you understand these these workouts coming together and all that? And what how do players like Tyrese Maxi benefit from working with a guy like LeBron James? No, that’s a great question. And in and in a way it’s one of those things where you don’t really want to talk about like you feel like it’s nothing gate, right? But but at the same time you you realize a lot of people turn it into something that is not. So it’s a good a good thing to talk about but you know basically here it is like you know LeBron works out uh you know Maxi is a guy who always wants to learn something. You know they’re both part of Clutch. you know, they have a relationship and it’s it’s one of those things where, you know, you go there and and and you get an opportunity to work out with a guy who might be the goat of the league, one of the all-time greatest. And and I feel like that’s that’s that’s basically what it is. You learn from his craft. You you you know, you go there. You’re only going to make yourself like better by working with him. You see what it takes um to work out. And I remember a couple years ago the Maxi first went there. It was crazy. So LeBron says meet there at a certain time. Well, you know, which is early and he shows up a little bit earlier than he told the at the at the time that that he said he was going to be there. Maxi’s already in the gym, I heard. So then the next day, LeBron came there way earlier than that. So, you know, to me, those are type of good things because you look at it and you hear about the greats, they always want to outwork um one another. Like, they want to be the hardest working guy in the gym. And the fact that I I think that when LeBron showed up and Maxi was already in there, to him, that really impressed him. And then it’s like, okay, well, you’re not just going to work out with me for this one time. We’re going to keep this in keep this going out. I mean, going together. So, I feel like it’s a great thing. And and how it comes about is like, hey, do you want to work out? Sure. Okay. Well, let okay, you got to come here at a certain day. This is what we’re going to do. You know, it’s funny like a couple years. I mean, I read there was a story I read about Kobe working out with a guy. And apparently, you know, the he he tells the guy, meet him at a location, the guy is there, the guy is waiting, waiting, waiting for Kobe, and then all of a sudden he calls Kobe and Kobe’s like, “Oh, okay. All right. Okay. you’re serious, meet me at such and such place. Then the guy goes there and then the next day they really got the work out in. So to me, it’s one of those things where it’s the veteran player or the goat, so to speak, you have it is testing the young guy to see how much work he’s willing to put in. And and Maxi does it. And you can only benefit from it. I mean, you can. It’s, you know, it’s it’s like me and you working out with the goat of our profession, you know what I mean? Like picking their brain. You can only you can only go up from it. Yeah. And you mentioned it right there with the work ethic and all that stuff. I mean, that’s the thing that really that doesn’t allow me to bet against Tyrese Maxi. Like I you talk about these guys that are impressed with him, whether it’s Doc Rivers, whether it’s Nick Nurse, whoever it might be, that these guys are all impressed with how hard this guy is willing to push himself. And to to reiterate to to to bring Kobe’s name back into it, it’s one of my favorite things about him is yeah, you talk about that work ethic, but you also talk about guys complaining to him, hey, how come you didn’t pass pass me the ball, you know, I was open, you know, the fourth quarter, whatever. And Kobe’s like, why should I pass you the ball? You weren’t in the gym when I was in the gym. I don’t trust you. Like, you didn’t put the work in. Like, I’m putting the work in. And it seems like, I know the term gets used a lot now, that mamba mentality gets used when you talk about a player’s work ethic and all that, but Tyrese Maxi certainly has that. he has that button and he activates it, especially in the offseason, whether that’s working out with guys that have the same representation like LeBron James, which I I certainly think is not nothing. Uh making sure he got in there to get the shots up, even with James Harden. And this is a guy that’s pushed through a lot. He’s faced adversity in the early days of his career, especially with Doc Rivers, not really giving him that run. He has worked his way his game around Joel Embiid and trying to be um a star around him to help him win. And now you’re looking at another season where he could be asked to do more than ever in the upcoming season with however available uh Joel Embiid’s going to be, however available Paul George is going to be and whatever scheme that they’re going to be running. As we talked about yesterday, with the style of play we could be seeing from the Sixers, this could be Maxi more on ball than we have seen him in at any point of his career. Yeah. Yeah, it could be. I mean, it could be. I mean, it you know, here’s the thing. It’s just one of those things where I mean if you’re if you’re Tyrese Maxi, you know, you work out with James Harden, you know, you you you practice every day with uh Paul George. I mean, even Joel Embiid, you work out with him. There’s so many great players that he’s worked out with and you learn from. And that’s what it is. is all about, you know, think about it is how much can you learn from a guy and incorporate that in your game a little bit. When we see Maxi do the step back, we all know that that’s part of Harden, right? You got that from Harden, LeBron James, you know, the explosiveness, uh, how to take care of your body, you know, some of the things that you do. um you know uh you know some of like I I think with LeBron more so for him is yeah you may learn a a trick or two but at the same time it’s like all about longevity is all about the mental aspect of the game like that I wonder what the conversations are like in between like workouts you know in between sessions like you know you know he wants to get 1% better it is it’s all going to help him out I mean it just is and and like when we look at a guy you you you say to Maxi, Maxi will say to LeBron, “Okay, I worked on this this summer. The next summer I did something else, you know, what do you recommend that I work on to become a better player?” And and what have you done? I mean, what do you do? Like, you know, uh you know, even down to, you know, what do you eat? Um how many hours uh a day do you sleep? You know, um you know, just everything. I mean I and and Maxi is that type of guy that he will prick uh pick his pick his brain and just to get everything. So it’s only going to benefit him as a player. 100%. When we come back, we got a question about these jerseys. I think it’s a good one. We’ll get into that. Uh and also before we get into our Grimes watch segment, Keith, which is always riveting as we know. Uh other free agents out there and any any other ideas you have for the 76ers possibly in this off seasonason to put them in the best possible spot with the year fast approaching. We’ll talk about that more when we return. This is Locked on 76ers on Locked on 76ers YouTube channel. And now let me tell you about Open Phone. Want to bring it in here with our first commenter of the day. I want to get uh Luffy in here. What’s up, Luffy? Will these jerseys bring back the same aura that the Kelly Green jerseys brought back for the Eagles? In my opinion, absolutely. Now, the Kelly Green is not excuse me, the Kelly Green is far more historic being that it’s really the only color the Philadelphia Eagles wore. I know the Frankfurt yellow jackets were like the Swedish flag onto the field. Uh, and the Eagles certainly did that some years ago to bring it back, but the Kelly Green jersey was all the Philadelphia Eagles wore up until Jeffrey Lori had the midnight green come in. Uh, so those jerseys far more iconic, those colors far more iconic. But in terms of the Sixers era, I think that’s the closest thing they could get to it. So, that’s that’s where I’m at with all of that. Um, Keith, as far as other free agents here, hold on, let me get on. Let me let me go get on this jersey. Dude, it’s not only how it’s going to bring back the same or if the Sixers are winning. Like, let’s let’s be real. Like, if if the Eagles wore rock the Kelly Green jerseys and they were trash, it was what we doing here? Like, you know what I mean? So, like, you know what I mean? It’s all about like, dude, it’s not the uniforms, it’s the players. You I mean, honestly, like, yeah, people might get hyped up and and da da da, but at the same time, it’s it’s it’s all about the players. Like, they have to play well and they have to um Yeah, they got to play well. And then people like, “Oh, these jerseys are great.” If they go out there and they start off two and 12 and they play six games in those jerseys, people are like, “Yo, take the trash off. Take it off. Take it off.” You know, that’s a great point. You are dishonoring the memory of Allen Iverson’s playing days at Philadelphia. You don’t deserve to wear that jersey. Yeah. I mean, come on, man. People are gonna be like, “Hey, yo, like, nah, nuh-uh. Uhuh.” Yeah. I love I Hey, it’ll be fun in the first quarter. Then after that, you better win. Uh, let’s get another question here. Crazy Farz, do you think Joel Embiid will appear in these jerseys this season? He better. There’s no way they’re not going to wear the jersey if if Joel Embiid’s coming back. All right. Uh All right, we’ll get the next one here. Well, here’s a question for you. Eric D wants to ask you this question there, Keith. Uh is there a chance the Sixers have interest in Nicolola um Vousvich? Nick Vousvich or Vuchevich as he became known. Any any interest there? I mean, I don’t think they can. Uh I mean, yeah. I mean, there is interest, but like my thing is, can they afford them right now? I mean, I don’t think they can like, you know, uh, yeah, that’s the tough spot. I mean, the Sixers, you couldn’t afford Gershon Yabelli. It’s tough to get V. It’s tough to get V. You’re you’re barely affording Andre Drummond right now at a $5 million player option. Um, all right. When it comes to other free agents that are out there, we’ll get to our Grimes watch as we do every day now, but is there any free agent that you think the Sixers could be interested in and a legit interested in? Any free agent you think could actually help this squad right now that would be affordable that healthy mix, which is a rare thing right now for the Sixers, unfortunately. Uh, or something they could do internally with somebody early or somebody already under contract. You know, me right now, I I think if if if I had a priority for the 76ers so I wouldn’t lose the guy, um my priority would be um Jabari Walker re uh trying to get him. And and if if if you now if if the crazy thing about the 76ers, like in years past, I shouldn’t say crazy, but in the in the last couple seasons, they kept that one spot available. So, in other words, they had 14 full-time um NBA standard contracts. You you’re allowed to have 15. But if they go to 15 right now, um and let’s just say if they can get Quinton Grimes, I would try to convert Jabari Walker’s contract to a NBA Standard deal. I would try to give him a deal where I lock him up for like multiple years and you can keep him, you know, that way he’s he’s property of yours. I don’t know if you want to go um fully guaranteed all those years is up to what the Sixers want to do. And typically they don’t for that. But at the same time, to me, I feel like that is should be a priority because when you think about it, the guys that you are going to get, they’re probably going to be other minimum salary type guys anyway, right? Or close to it because we’re looking at guys who are pretty good who could go somewhere in free agency and they’re signing overseas now. So to me, if I’m the 76ers, what I would do is I would give Jabari Walker that deal and then for free agency, I would try to see if I can get a project type of player who would be willing to take a two-way and you can gamble with him. Because my thing is when we look at the 76ers roster, Walker is going to be a guy who they may have to depend on. And if that’s the case, how many times you be like, “Oh, well, I can’t play him this game because if not, he’s going to lose his two-way status.” You know what I mean? Like, he’s gonna play x amount of games. So, to me, that’s more of a priority under the situ um circumstances. And, you know, you also have Don Barlo, you know, a guy who could be a candidate for that as well. You know, Hunter Silus depending on how he plays. But if I had to say that there, in my opinion, that there’s a front runner from that position, it would be Jabari Walker getting that thing. All right. So, why do you think they haven’t done that to begin with? Is it just politics or is it a level of talent that the Sixers aren’t that confident in? Well, I I I also think at the particular time you had um you had guys on the roster, you know, one being in in Ricky Council, the fourth, right? Um, I I felt like because when you look at it, you know, you had Ricky Council and then you had uh he was the 14th spot. Number 15 on the roster is is is going to be Quentyn Grimes if he comes, right? So, they really didn’t have a spot available for him. Now, you can say to him, “Okay, what we’ll do is we’ll give you an exhibit 10 deal.” and and then he says, “Well, what if another team gives me a two-way?” You know, an exhibit 10 deal is actually lower than what a two-way deal is because basically all that says is if you get waved, which you’re probably going to get waved, if you sign with our if you sign with our G-League team or you play with them, then you’ll get a bump in pay. So, you know what I mean? So, they basically hold your G-League rights um or they hold the rights to give you a bonus in the G- League. So, I just felt like they really didn’t have a roster spot available for him. And but what they were saying is look, you get this two-way, things could happen and you take it and then maybe we can move somebody and then if you if everything works out, then you will get a standard deal. And the Sixers have done that the last couple years. I mean, you talk about Ricky Council, you know, receiving a standard deal from a two-way, you know, you talk about Jared Butler doing the same thing. You talk about Justin Edwards. So, you know, this isn’t they they have a a history of converting guys and I’m pretty sure, you know, he he he knew that coming in and and that’s why he signed with the 76ers. Gotcha. All right. When we come back, I got our Well, first off, hold on. Peter Thurman wants to get in here. Nice suit, Keith. Oh, thanks, Pete. See that? Yeah, I appreciate it. People say comments are always negative. No, no, not on this show. Not on this show. We’re supportive. We’re supportive. All right. When we come back, latest installment, ladies and gentlemen, of Grimes Watch. And I got another question for Keith. I was really looking for a new and I was getting ready to show y’all the arena, I mean the uh the football stadium or do something, but nah, not yet. All good. All good. All good. All good. Um, when it when it comes to the Grimes, obviously nothing has moved in in that direction. Look, just one question I haven’t asked you. I’ve asked you about, you know, backup plans and all that. Is there somebody on this rod? Look, they they’ve loaded up in guards, but they’ve obviously made it a point to do that. So, I like Quinn Grimes. You like Quinn Grimes. We like his game. We don’t have high expectations where he’s going to be a 25 point a night type of guy, you know, that you could see him that he was at the end of last year in the last like 20 games for the Sixers when everybody was out. But if it doesn’t work out with Quinton Grimes, do the minutes automatically go to Jared McCain? Do they automatically go to VJ Edgecom? Do they pick up another guard? or is is it is it more so more dependent now on Paul George and Joel Embiid? What direction do the Sixers go if everything were to fall through in the unlikely scenario that Quinton Grimes is not back? You know, here’s the thing. I mean, that that’s that’s weird because I mean it’s a great question to ask, but I think there’s maybe a 5% chance that he doesn’t come back in some capacity, right? But but but I do think that if Quinton Grimes doesn’t come back, you know, I mean, I I think that the beneficiaries in regards to, you know, more minutes would would would go to Jared McCain and and VJ Edgecom, right? I mean, I I do. I mean, because when you look at it, you know, I I feel like, you know, right now we’re talking about a a four guard offense, you know, if he came, you know, four different guards rotating in and out. Um but but if he doesn’t come back, I think those other two guys, they’re they’re going to they’re going to their their workload is going to increase a little bit, you know, VJ is going to be called upon more, you know, as a rookie, you know, to come out there and produce and and do what he has to do. Um but I also feel like another guy who will benefit from it would also be uh Kelly Ubé. And the reason why I’m saying that is because when we look at it, you know, we talk about Kelly Ubé and we all talk about him being uh, how should I say it, like a a swing man, but he’ll tell you he’s a two guard, but we’re saying, well, with these four guys, you’re going to have to play the three. So, you know, more he’ll get more looks at the two on in in certain scenarios. So, you know, I feel like though, but for the most part, I feel like those two guys that I mentioned before, VJ Edgecomb and Jared McCain are going to be the beneficiaries, but I do not see any scenario that he does not come back. Uh, I just don’t because it’s like to a point where, you know, evidently he hasn’t signed yet. There’s no teams really want to throw money at him because they know the 76ers going to match it. and the 76ers are looking at it like, “Okay, if we don’t do anything, then guess what? You’re going to be here for a one-year deal, u making 8.7 million.” So, to me, I I just feel like since there’s really no market for him, he he has no choice but to come back. Could it be? Obviously, it’s all financial, but the one thought I had was if they if he comes back, if he gets another offer from somewhere else and that offer is like $18 million, whatever, and then the Sixers match that at$8 million, then you’re talking about a guy coming in here being a starter. But if he doesn’t get that money and then he gets something closer to, you know, 10 12 million, then you might not be talking about a guy as a starter. How much do you think the money is going to dictate what his role will be on the team? Uh, I don’t Well, if he’s making 8.7 mil, he’s probably still going to be making Well, no, he’s probably not going to make more than he’s not going to make more than VJ. Um, but but I I I think that now if if he was making a lot of money, he’ll definitely be a starter, right? But at the same time, I feel like he would be a starter anyway just because of he’s an experienced NBA player and and they want to win. And then that’s not a knock to VJ, but it’s also it’s one of those things where you know the 76ers, even though we talk about they’re banged up and everything, they want to win, man. They want to win now. And with that being said, you want to minimize the mistakes that are being made. Like typically for a losing team, you’ll have a rookie guy and you’ll say, “Hey, look, bro, you can play through your mistakes.” Well, right now, they want to make sure that, you know, yeah, we’re going to give them some time and we’re going to let him play, but we’ll rather go with the more experienced guy and let him develop over time. Talking about him being VJ Edgecomb and a more experienced guy, you know, being uh Quinton Grimes. So, I feel like if he comes back, um, and the fact that the fact that they were willing to let Gershan Yabelli walk, that lets me know that he’s a priority, someone who they feel like is going to be a starter for them moving forward. All right, Keith, before we go, between the jerseys and your suit, threads have been a conversation of the day. Did do you have a favorite jersey growing up? Did you own a jersey growing up? Did you of a favorite player or do you just have a favorite jersey you like seeing your team wear? Uh, not really. No. Like, um, nah, not really. And, and me it was, but it was more so, believe it or not, like I grew I grew up in Frankfurt and, um, the home of the Frankfurt Yellow Jacks. Weird. No, seriously. Because where I grew up, so I grew up on our football field. I played for the Frankfurt Chargers and if you go right near the a field it say that there’s like a mirror where it’s like there’s Andy Reid there there’s the Frankfurt Yellow Jackets and then it’s like you know um a couple coaches who were legends for Frankfurt one of them Billy Gambrell um God rest his soul he was great dude a great coach too so it was kind of like our our colors the Chargers were red and white with that being said as a kid growing up. I was a diehard Nebraska fan. Oh wow. Yeah, I was die hard. So, you know what I mean? So, whatever it is, don’t ask me why I had this number, but I had like a number two Nebraska jersey and I used to rock that all the time. Yeah. As a kid. So, yeah. I wasn’t really, you know, into like the Eagles jerseys, the Phillies, you know, right? A Flyer sweater or a Sixers jersey, but I had like a Nebraska jersey and I was like walking around with it like, “Yeah, corn huskers all the way. I hate Oklahoma, you know, stuff like that in Frankfurt. The only guy wearing that jersey.” That’s awesome. No, believe it or not, a lot of us like it was funny. A lot of us like Okay, because you know what I mean? Because of that. Yeah. It was like because color connection. Yeah. Yeah. Because of the color connection. Yeah. Because of the color connection. Yeah. Oh, that’s great. That’s great. Keith, always a pleasure, my friend. Uh we’ll be back with you wonderful people talking more 76ers tomorrow on Locked on 76ers. Pompey has a suit on 😅😂😅😂😅
Happy! They need to bring back the Iverson blue 76ers jersey back as well
I'd honestly be a fan if they brought back the 2011-era jerseys, but don't mind this
We don't need new uni's- we need a new owner, GM, head coach and players. ***Drops the mic.
This is how i know the Sixers are truly cooked. Fans have been begging for these jerseys FOR A DECADE and have been ignored.
You can always count on keith to throw a downer on something great lol.. Keith you won a million dollars keith: yeah thats cool and all but whats the taxes going to be on that?😂😂😂 damn bruh😅😅
I guess LeBron going to get Maxey on those PEDs early. He is going to learn how to flop better lmao….I lost all respect for him now. Thats the WRONG person to get any tips from.
Maxey to the Lakers confirmed! It’s story making up season!😂
I don't like those Iverson Sixers jerseys.
Bouta look so fly when we’re getting curb stomped😮💨👌🏾
