76ers Rumors On SIGNING Kevin Love + VJ Edgecombe DISRESPECTED, Justin Edwards Makes A Change

Welcome in to Philadelphia 76ers. Now I’m Jake Chipper and a loaded show to get to here on today’s program. On tap today, Kevin Love was traded from Miami to Utah this off season. Now he’s looking to get out of there over there in Utah. Could the Sixers potentially look to sign him if he is bought out? Plus some new 76ers schedule updates. We finally got some some confirmed games for the Sixers on their schedule. A couple prime time nationally televised games as well. Also, VJ Edgecom’s rookie rating from NBA 2K26 has been revealed. Where does he rank among his fellow rookies? And Justin Edwards making a change as we enter this 202526 NBA season. So, let’s get started here first with the latest on Kevin Love. As I mentioned, Kevin Love was dealt from Miami to Utah in the three team trade in which Norman Powell ended up in Miami. John Collins ended up on the Clippers. Kevin Love in that deal was sent to Utah. And although he hasn’t been bought out yet by the Jazz, it has been confirmed he would like to play for a contender this year in a big market. Should the Sixers, if he does get bought out, think about bringing the veteran in? Jake Fischer on this Kevin Love story with Kevin Love, to my understanding, really only wants to be in the big glamour markets. I do think that would mostly be something along along the lines of Kevin Love going to a New York or an LA, that kind of situation. So, we’ll see if that can materialize for him. And like, I know Philly might not quite be the LA or New York kind of market, but it’s still up there, right, in terms of these big markets in the NBA. And although they were bad last year, I think you still have to consider them at least a competitive team, right? So, assuming Kevin Love would be willing to come to Philadelphia, doesn’t it make sense for the Sixers to try to sign him? Let’s talk about what Kevin Love would bring to this team. obviously not the player he once was way back in his Timberwolves days and then even in his days with the Cavs when they were competing for championships with LeBron with Kyrie you the past few years in Miami since he’s been here first couple of seasons there weren’t too bad this past year though really played very very sparingly I asked Nick Rolloff like what did Kevin Love look like last season and he said man he really didn’t play at all you see 23 games played when he did he wasn’t good uh 35% from the field 35.8% 8% from three is not horrible, but also again just very very limited action. Now, when you think about bringing Kevin Love to the Sixers, I think the main reason you would look to bring him on to this team is the rebounding aspect. Of course, when he was in Minnesota way back in the day, he was probably the best rebounder in the NBA at the time. and you know that’s tailed off over time as he’s gotten older and he’s kind of changed his game to be more of a perimeter player but still does remain a good rebounder even at his age. So that’s really the main reason you would think to bring in a Kevin Love kind of player. And then of course as well as I mentioned the three-point shooting ability from that four position, a player with size, but 36 years old, right? And and again, he’s been in the NBA for a while. He’ll be he’ll be 37 this September. So with that, I’ll ask you guys this question and I’ll give you my answer here in just a minute. Should the Sixers sign Kevin Luff? Give me a simple sign or pass down in the comments section if you think it makes sense for Daryl my to try to bring in Kevin Love if he does end up asking out and being bought out from Utah. For me personally, it is a hard no, a hard pass, I am good on Kevin Love. Even if he can still rebound a little bit here and there, and I get it, it’s for the vet. And usually I’m all for these vet signings of these veterans that can come in and they won’t play a whole lot. It’ll be sparingly. You’re not really risking all that much to bring them in. But look, in the situation the Sixers are in, yes, they do need rebounding. That was one of their biggest issues last season, and that can certainly be a reason why you want to bring Kevin Love in. But one, he’s just not that effective anymore. Two, Sixers have two roster spots remaining. One of them will go to Quinton Grimes, leaving one roster spot open heading into the season. And I would much rather use that roster spot on bringing up one of the Sixers twoway players like a Dominic Barlo or a Jabari Walker. I think either of those two guys would be able to make a much greater impact on the Sixers roster than somebody like Kevin Love. And you’ve already signed and already have enough of these older vets on the roster at this point with Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon. I even consider Andre Drummond in that vein. I don’t think you need to bring in a player like Love. There’s a reason that Daryl my brought in guys like again trying to Watford on the roster but also in those two-way deals in a Jabari Walker in a Dominic Barlo. It just doesn’t make sense to then fill that spot with Kevin Love when you hope one of those two two-way guys who are younger, more athletic, and can still impact the game on the defensive end of the floor. You hope one of those guys is able to earn that final roster spot. So, I am passing on Kevin Love. Coming up next here on the show, we finally got some updates regarding the Philadelphia 76ers 2025 26 NBA schedule. NBA’s been releasing some of these big prime time nationally televised games over the course of the week and we haven’t heard anything regarding Philadelphia. No Christmas game for them this year. Nothing on, you know, opening night, opening week on ESPN or any of these new, you know, NBC or Prime who have games this year. But NBA Cup schedules did start to get released here today. And the Sixers do have two nationally televised games of their four NBA Cup group games. So, these are the four confirmed games we have for Philadelphia as of this moment here on Wednesday, August 13th. They’ll play on Halloween at home against the Boston Celtics on 700 p.m. Eastern. That game will be on Amazon Prime. again, one of the new studios that will be having NBA games this season. Then November 14th at Detroit, that game at 7:30 Eastern. November 25th against the Orlando Magic. New Look with Desmond Bay on the roster. That one on NBC at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. And then November 28th, a few days later, at the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. So, that is the group for Philadelphia. We talked about this group before and the NBA Cup schedule for that group play. And if you’re unfamiliar with the NBA Cup or you need a little bit of a refresher on how that all works, there is five teams in each group. There’s three groups for each conference, right? So, starting on October 31st, that is when group play begins. It’ll conclude on November 28th after you play each of those teams in your group once. Then the top team from each group and then one wild card from each conference will advance to the playoffs, per se, one game knockout quarterfinals on December 9th and 10th. and then the semi-finals and championships in Vegas December 13th and December 16th. I’m not too worried about the NBA Cup honestly for the 76ers, but you know, it is a competitive environment and those games were fun to watch last year and the NBA has done a pretty good job, especially with the new courts as well that that they have for those NBA Cup games. No other regular season games at this point confirmed for Philadelphia 100%. But we do know some of their preseason schedule as well. Of course, the Sixers will begin a little bit of an early preseason against the New York Knicks in Abu Dhabi, playing on October 2nd and October 4th, meaning their preseason and their training camp actually starts earlier than other teams since they are playing overseas. And then they will have an October 17th game against the Minnesota Timberwolves as well. Uh we’ll have some more of these games coming up very shortly because tomorrow, Thursday, August 14th, the NBA is dropping the full schedule for all 30 teams. we will know the full sector schedule from start to finish and the preseason games as well, what nationally televised games they have on their schedule this season. So, you do not want to miss out. So let’s get to some talk on VJ Edgecom because NBA 2K released their rookie ratings. we get a look at where VJ Edgecom ranks among his peers in this 2025 NBA draft class. And in this 2025 NBA draft class, VJ Edgecom comes in as the fourth best rookie at this moment according to 2K. You see Cooper Flag there at the top at an 82, Dylan Harper at a 78, Ace Bailey right above VJ at a 77, and then VJ Edgecomb at a 76 overall. Look, I’m not going to sit here and overreact to video game ratings, especially on players that none of them have played a single minute in the NBA officially up to this point. But VJ Edgecomb should be above Ace Bailey. I was an Ace Bailey guy, too. But the whole draw with Ace Bailey was his potential, his long-term upside. We knew he was a little bit raw right now. And VJ Edgecomb today is a better player than Ace Bailey as we saw that play out in the summer league. So again, not going to freak out over the 2K ratings and it’s not a huge deal, but I think VJ Edgecom a little bit disrespected there by NBA 2K with his rating. He should be above Ace Bailey. Some other 2K ratings that I just wanted to point out really quickly. Tyrese Maxi number seven in speed with ball. We know Tyrese Maxi, one of the most electric players in the in the NBA with the ball in his hands. how he gets up and down the floor lightning quick. It is so fun to watch. Darren Fox does that better than ever anybody else. 97 speed with ball. Man, we see Maxi there at a 90 and the likes of Scoo Henderson, Amond Thompson, Devin Carter, Rob Dillingham, Jeremiah Fears, so on and so forth. I also wanted to bring up this mid-range shot rating. Look, I know Joel Embiid with the injuries and stuff, his ratings have kind of been going down the past couple of years. And again, you know, 2K ratings doesn’t mean a whole lot, but top 10 mid-range shots. Look, if you watch the Sixers, you know, Joel Embiid is pretty much automatic from the mid-range. I think he should have a 99 mid-range shot. Uh, not on the list here of players in the top 10 of mid-range. Joic leads the way. Even down to Miles McBride and Chris Middleton down there. Come on, man. Embiid should be in that list. But going back to the VG Edgecom Ace Bailey debate, you know, we’ve talked about it a lot, especially around draft time. It’s kind of died down a little bit, but these two are going to be compared to each other pretty much their entire careers because of went down what went down in the pre-draft process. So, who do you think is the better player right now today? VJ Edgecom type VJ think it’s Ace Bailey type AB. Again, not who’ll be better in five years. Who is better right now as we sit here on Wednesday, August 13th? And we’ll round out the show with some news on Justin Edwards making a change entering his sophomore season, changing from number 19 to number 11. I like the look. Number 11 was previously worn by Jeff Dton. He is no longer with this squad. So Edwards taking over number 11. Think it just looks better. Looks cleaner than number 19. And who knows, maybe that number change can result in an all-star kind of season for Justin Edwards. I I tweeted that out. Obviously I’m joking. But I do like what I saw from Edwards last season as an undrafted rookie. came in and didn’t play a whole lot right away, but especially in that back half of the year after the All-Star break when all the injuries were occurring and the Sixers team was pretty much out of it, he looked very good. I mean, as a whole, 10 points, three and a half boards, shooting 45 from the field, 36 from three. You’ll take that for a first round pick, much less a guy who was an undrafted pickup. So, look, when we talk about Justin Edwards and this upcoming season in Philadelphia, I really think Justin Edwards is an X factor for this team. Given what he showed as a rookie, as an undrafted rookie, being able to score with the ball in his hands, being able to guard the opposing team’s best player every single night, and being able to get to the rim, create his own shots, shoot the three ball at his size on that wing. Those are the kind of players you need to win in today’s NBA. Hey, and Justin Edwards, if he can take a huge leap from year 1 to year two, man, the NBA better watch out cuz the Sixers need talent on that wing spot. And Edwards had all the talent in the world as a top three recruit back in high school. Can he put it together in his second year in the NBA? We’ll have to see, but I’m excited to watch him in that new number 11. And when you look again at this roster, like that wing depth, it’s almost non-existent. I consider Maxi McCain, VJ, Eric Gordon, those are all guards, right? And then, you know, Kelly Ubé is a wing. I’d consider Janiah Broomman, Trenon Watford more bigs than wings. So, your only true wings, I think, on this roster, Paul George, who knows what you’re getting from him this year. Kelly Ubé, who I like, but is an inconsistent offensive player. And then the young guy in Justin Edwards, if he can make a big step, he can maybe be a starter on this team if Paul George misses time or really, really regresses or if UB is just that inconsistent offensively. So, got to watch out for Edwards again. We’ll be looking fly in that number 11. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show.
