Knicks Get MAJOR UPDATE on Rokas Jokubaitis | NY Knicks News
A lot of you guys have been asking me for a Rokus Jacobitis update and we got one and we’re going to break it down on today’s show. But first, make sure you are subscribed because when the Knicks make a move, we make a video. We actually put out free videos every day on your New York Knicks and we go live for every single game doing a watch party. So, if you love this squad, hit that sub button right now. [Music] Welcome in to New York Knicks now by chat sports. I am your host Marshall Green. Roish Jackabitis. He will not be playing for the New York Knicks in the 2025 2026 season. It’s really been a long question of is he ever going to come over to the NBA and play for the Knicks? Do the Knicks want Yakabidis to come join this squad? Does he want to join this squad? And I think today we kind of got our answer on that as he has signed a three-year deal to go play for Byron Munich overseas. And look, he could get a buyout out of that deal maybe down the line, but just being honest, I don’t know if he’s ever going to join the Knicks. It’s unfortunate because he was the number 34 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft by the Knicks. He actually played in the summer league, two different stints in 2021 and 2024. And I thought he showed some nice things. And when you go and watch his overseas film, he’s a point guard through and through. He takes care of the basketball. He’s a really skilled passer. He can finish around the rim. He’s improved as a shooter from downtown. And where the Knicks kind of sit at their point guard spot, I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world for them to add another point guard. But I don’t know if he will be that guy because it sounds like the only way he wants to join this team is if there’s like guaranteed playing time. And to be honest with you, you were solid in the summer league. But I haven’t seen anything from Yakobitias that says you should be a part of this rotation night in and night out. He said this prior to summer league this year when he was asked about if he was going to come over. He said, “Summer league? No. I went two times. I think I showed myself. Now it’s up to them. I’m in Europe enjoying basketball here, but in the future, you never know. Roas in the Euro League, top 25 in points, assists, steals, and efficiency. 60% from two and uh low30s from three. Shout out to New York basketball. Go give them a follow. One of the best Knicks accounts on Twitter. And look, it’s unfortunate like the number 34 overall pick, you can get a really good player in that spot. And for that player to never even play a possession for your basketball team is a little bit frustrating, I would say. And it’s a rare miss by Leon Rose. He doesn’t usually miss to this caliber. And I’m not saying the miss on Yakabidis is going to come back to bite the Knicks, but it sure would be nice to have maybe a player that went one pick later on this team. The Knicks, they also got Miles McBride in that second round, and they also got Jericho Sim. So overall they made out well but with pick 34 you could have found a really good player and there was some and we’ll talk about who they are just pretty disappointing like from both perspectives I had high hopes for Roas like he’s got skills I wondered if he was an NBA player but I’ve seen stuff throughout his time in Europe and there were some small moments in the summer league as well where like it was like okay maybe this guy can be an NBA player. the stats weren’t sexy in the summer league when he played here. Like six points the first year, not even an assist, one uh a higher turnover to assist ratio in 2021, but he was like semi-efficient. 70% for the field, 60% from three, and then in 2024, 9.8 points per game in the five games he played, up to 3.8 assists. Uh efficiency stayed well. There just wasn’t a lot of volume. Wasn’t that many opportunities for him in 2024. He was playing alongside Tyler Kick a lot and like it’s hard to be a pass first point guard next to another pass first point guard and he doesn’t really gel all that well and my takeaway last year was that I think Kick might be better. Who knows how that pans out down the line. Like there was some juice there. I thought that maybe he could be a player down the line. I don’t know if he ever will be. I would have liked to seen how he kind of fit in an NBA style play, especially in the regular season. Summer league, we know what it is. We’ve seen Kevin Knox play great. We’ve seen Jaylen Brunson play bad. Thing is, the exact opposite happened in those both of those players careers than it did in the summer. It’s not the same game. And within the NBA, there’s more space, there’s more pace, it’s more pick and roll, even though that’s starting to come back a little bit. I think he was actually built for the NBA game, but who knows if we’ll ever see that. What really hurts is the New York Knicks selected him number 34 overall in the 2021 NBA draft. And one pick later was is and was one of my favorite players in the NBA and that’s Herb Jones. Shout out to Herb Jones. Would be an awesome player on this team. A two-way wing. He’s athletic. One of the best defenders in the NBA can guard at the point of attack and guard on the wing and he’s improved as a shooter. And the Knicks, they could use a guy like that. Also, another one of my guys that I wanted the Knicks to trade for, IO Dumu. He’d be an awesome backcourt sixman for the New York Knicks. I would love to see a lineup of Brunson and IO. Like if you could have had one of these two players instead of Roas, like I don’t know how much your team would be way different. Like this is a legit NBA rotational player. This is a damn good player as well. And I know it’s 20 picks later, but even Aaron Wiggins who had some moments in the NBA playoffs and got some tick in the NBA finals, he went 55th overall. And I know I’m cherrypicking here. It’s not the end of the world. Not mad at Leon. I don’t want you guys freaking out in the comments section. just unfortunate and I think we’re kind of at the end of the road for the Roas like experiment in the saga. Like you just signed a three-year deal to stay overseas. You said you think you’ve shown enough in the summer league for the Knicks to bring you over. I don’t know if that’s actually true. So you’re going to Byron Munich. You’re playing for three years. Maybe there’s a buyout. I don’t know. Maybe we revisit this topic down the line. But uh if I had to plant my flag on one side of the topic, it’s on the side that I don’t think he ever comes over to America and plays for the New York Knicks. If I’m wrong, I’ll tell you that and uh we’ll find out. Coming up next though, we got an update on Landrew Sham. Ian Begley of SNY had some interesting words about Shamut and if a return is on the table. We’ll break that down in a second. But I want you to take advantage of this deal. If you’re looking for some Nick swag for the upcoming season, some Nike Nick swag, you’re in luck because if you go to this link, chatports.com sale, this Nick’s Nike t-shirt, it’s on sale and it won’t be on sale forever. Forever forever is the word. Uh, so go get it today. chatports.com sale. All righty. Ian Begley of SNY on his show, The Putback. Check it out. Go support Ian. He is crushing it as always. He had Keith Smith on who was a NBA insider as well and they kind of talked about Landry Sham and Begley said I think a I think a lot of support internally bringing Shamut back. I would assume he’d be back. I wouldn’t rule out the idea of the Knicks adding another veteran in addition to Shamut. Only way to do that is a trade Simmons or anybody else. something I’m vaguely keeping an eye on. And look, we’ve spent a lot of time on this show talking about who’s going to be that last roster spot for the New York Knicks. Is it going to be Ben Simmons? Are they going to go look at a Malcolm Brogden? Are they going to bring a Landry Shamut back? And I think at this point, like if Ben Simmons wanted to be a Knick, he’d probably already be one because if he said yes to the veteran minimum, he’d be here. Uh I think Landry is probably the most likely to be that. And I think it just makes the most sense at this point. He was on the squad last year. Seemed like he got along with everybody and he played his best basketball after he came back from that shoulder injury that knocked him out of the first couple months of the season. And once he got healthy, he kind of showed off that he still is a rotational player in this league. Three main reasons I think that he could be the best fit for that 14th spot is he knows his role. Like when you are signed to a veteran minimum deal, you got to know your role. And he knows he may not play every single night. And he’s not the type of guy where if he catches a couple DNP coaches decisions in a row that he’s going to stir up a problem and he’s going to get upset and he’s going to rub people the wrong way in the locker room and it’s going to be a thing. Landry Sham’s not playing minutes. That’s not going to happen. Maybe that does happen with the Ben Simmons. Maybe that does h happen with the Malcolm Brogden. Landry, he’s not that type of guy. He knows why he’s on this team. He’s also willing to compete on defense. Not saying other people aren’t, but if you’re willing to compete on defense, you’re willing to guard other people. You know your role, which is playing hard-nosed defense and flying around the ball and competing at a high level. Like, I’ll take that. And he could play in any lineup because of his ability to shoot the basketball. Like, he shot above 40% from January 1st and on for the New York Knicks. He hit some big shots in the playoffs as well. So he knows his role. He’s willing to compete on defense and I think he could play in any lineup the New York Knicks want to bring. Like you look at the bench players on this team. McBride, Kick, Clarkson, Dier, Hart, Yabiselli, and Hucky. If Mitchell Robinson is that fifth starter, there’s not really a knockdown shooter on this roster. McBride has hit some big-time shots. He shot above 40%, not this year, but the year prior from three. But Clarkson’s not known as a marksman from downtown. He’s a score. We know Josh Hart could be hot and he could be cold. Yaveelli knocked down some threes, but if he is your best three-point shooter off the bench, that’s usually not a great sign. And Lander Shamy could be that guy at 28 years old, shot better than 46% from the field last year, willing to defend multiple positions at 6’4, another year of an offseason, working back from injury. I don’t hate it. It’s veteran minimum, and I think that might be the most likely option at this point. What do you think? Should the Knicks bring back Shamut to this squad? He’s got a relationship with the players. I think it makes a lot of sense. And Sevet Mint, I don’t know. TypeS for sign. Type P for pass. Make sure you are following me on Twitter and Instagram because the Knicks make a move. I’ll let you know over there. [Music]

I’d like to know what you’ve heard about KAI SOTTO he looks promising….?
He never would have played in the NBA or for the Knicks.
The draft and stash hasn't been nearly as successful as years and years ago. Now it's like playing a scratch off except you don't get your money back every now and then. Plus hitting jackpot is a rarity(last hit being Jokic), others were barely role players with a splish splash of some starts to role, then gone.
Thank you, Marshall. I always appreciate the update. Let’s go New York Knicks.
At the end of the day, you can sign a vet off the couch mid season who is gonna be better more productive than him.
In a perfect world, he lights up whatever league he goes to and becomes a trade chip in a deal.
He’s trash
I believe this was a wasted pick imo. Could’ve gotten herb jones when available but it’s whatever I guess. We good regardless
Sounds like deep down he himself knows he's not an NBA player.
