The Dallas Mavericks Are Sneaky Contenders!

The Dallas Mavericks have all of a sudden become incredibly underrated. I don’t think a lot of people are talking about this team going to the season and how they could realistically have a shot at doing big things and going after the NBA title. Of course, the biggest setback for the Mavs out of the gate going into the season is the fact that Kyrie Irving will miss the first part of the season. However, the Mavericks do expect him to be back at the start of 2026 and hopefully Irvine can return to a Mavs team that is very stacked. I saw this post on X from MFL saying this is the deepest NBA roster. Two starting lineups in one. Now, saying two starting lineups in one might be pushing it a tad bit, but I don’t know. I’m taking that bench unit over the Washington Wizards in a game. But nonetheless, when you look at this team and you look at the pieces on this team, this is a very deep team. I absolutely love the depth of the Dallas Mavericks going into the season. And if Kyrie Irving can return and everything goes well and this team stays healthy, because really the only thing I see stopping this team and and slowing it down is health. The Dallas Mavericks can end up being a major player in the West. This is my dangerous team in the West going into this season that you just can’t forget about. It helps a ton and it costs nothing to do so. So, you look at the Mavericks projected starting five when Irving is back in the new year. You got Irving Thompson who I I think Klay Thompson is going to have a big season. Cooper Flag. This is such a unique opportunity because I can’t remember the last time a number one pick comes into a place where they could very well go out there and win the title. A winning situation. Flag, you know, is going to be ready for that. I know he’s very young, but I think he’s going to contribute out of the gate for the Mavs. Anthony Davis, I think he’s got a lot to prove this season. Can he stay healthy? That’s the biggest thing with him. And then Derek Lively the second, can he take a jump? Can he be that steady center presence as he’s presumably going to be this team starting center? But then I really like the bench. I think this bench can be the best bench in all of basketball. D’Angelo Russell going to start beginning the season, but then after Kyrie, he comes back. He’s going to head to the bench. But I think Russell leading that second unit, that’s something where I can see him really flourishing. Max Christie, love the young kid. I think a year another year under his belt is going to do him wonders. Naji Marshall, PJ Washington going to bring toughness, steady scoring, and then Daniel Gaffford, you have him as your backup center. Just like that, the Mavs have one of the best backup centers in the game. You look at the Mavericks, you know, obviously the big story is going to be Cooper Flag’s arrival. They got the number one pick. They got flag who I think is immediately going to make an impact for them especially on the defensive end and I think like sticking to that defensive theme. This team besides the depth I think their defense is going to be absolutely scary. You talk about so many guys they have with great length, great size, able to alter shots, block shots like AD with Cooper Flag from a defensive standpoint is going to be unbelievable. And then you still have Lively and then you still have long versatile players from off the bench. So, this team defensively is going to be a nightmare for the opposition. And then, you know, you look at the offense. Can the offense be consistent? Obviously, the offense is going to be a lot better when Irving is back. He’s recovering from a torrent ACL. It’s projected to return around January 2026. Might be pushed out a little bit later, but he’s going to significantly bolster this team’s offense and the back court. How’s Clay going to look? Of course, he’s going to have to be that Klay Thompson, that steady presence, able to space the floor and hit threes, but I think the defense is going to be absolutely solid. Don’t have to worry about that. I think the the depth is going to be insane. Just the different lineups the Mavericks are able to throw out there. And then you got the veteran star power. And I think this is where this Maverick’s team is in such a nice situation because not only do you have the youngsters like Lively and obviously Cooper Flag, the future of this franchise, but you got guys who are season vets, guys who are looking to win now. Klay Thompson has won championships. AD former champion, Kyrie Irving, former champion. And then even D’Angelo Russell, like this is a veteran guy at this stage of his career. He wants to win. He wants to compete at the highest level and I really like this signing because he brings floor spacing and steady ball handling which is what this team’s going to need especially with Kyrie out to start the season. So when you look at this team there’s not many weaknesses. There’s depth across all positions and you know you have that dominant defensive foundation. You got the veteran Shaw making especially when Kyrie Irving’s back. you got a elite rookie like there’s not too many rookies in the past who have been as highly advertised as Cooper Flag and I think he’s NBA ready. I think this is a kid who you can put in this winning situation and he’s going to look the part because defensively he’s already up there and then once he kind of figures out more of his offensive game that’s going to unlock more with this Mass team and they just have so much lineup flexibility up and down where if the offense is consistent, the shooting is consistent, this team really has a lot of aspects covered and you look at this team full health. It is equipped for a deep playoff run in a Western Conference that is going to be loaded. Health permitting, I believe the Dallas Mavericks are going to be in that conversation if they’re able to get a good seed in the West and, you know, go into the playoffs with some momentum. So really like if this team stays healthy, talking about Kyrie and AD more specifically, I think this team matches up very nicely against a lot of teams in the West, especially against the reigning champion OKC Thunder. So this is one of the more interesting teams that I got my eyes on for the season. How is it all going to come together? How is AD going to look first full season with the Mavs? Cooper Flag, of course, we’re all awaiting his official NBA debut. This is a nice balanced team. And the Mavericks, they’re going to be obviously expected to go out there and try to compete for a championship. Nico Harrison, you making as bold of a trade he did involving Luca Donuch. The window of this team to win is very short. They have a few more seasons, right? you’re banking on Kyrie, AD, Clay, that timeline. It’s nice that you have Cooper Flag who’s going to lead this mass franchise into the next iteration of their franchise, but their championship window, it’s right now. So, health is literally the only thing I see stopping this team. We will see how it all plays out, but this team looks pretty damn stacked on paper.
