NBA News | Hornets hire coach | Blazers Sold | Austin Reaves contract details and more! | Hoops Nerd
Today we’re talking Steve Clipper with the Hornets. The Blazers have a new owner. The Clippers signed a former Jazz Guard. New intel on the Austin Reeves contract. And a hint at maybe Josh Giddy getting a contract. Let’s talk about it. Hoopser show. All right, guys. Like always, like the video, subscribe to the channel. Let’s get into this. All right, so the Charlotte Hornets, they can’t quit Steve Clifford. Third time they’re hiring Steve Clifford. This time they are hiring Steve Clifford as a coaching advisor. Right now, the coach is Charles Lee. Seems like he’s doing a pretty good job there, but they’re bringing in Steve Clifford again. He’s the He is the blanket that they just can’t get rid of. The the teddy bear that helps them sleep at night. Steve Clifford helping the Charlotte Hornets feel good about their coaching situation. I guess I don’t I don’t understand. I just think it’s funny that they’ve hired him a third time. The third time. They must love them some Steve Clifford. All right. Next piece of news is the Blazers have a new owner. His name is Tom Dundan. He is the owner, CEO of the Carolina Hurricanes. He is a real estate mogul, billionaire. And I think the price comes in around 4.5 billion. Not as much as the Celtics, the 6 billion, but still a huge price. It’s still pretty wild when you consider how much that is going for the Portland Trailblazers, 6 billion for the Celtics. The fact that Ryan Smith for the Utah Jazz got them for 2.8 8 billion. Certainly seems like he got a a discount or a coupon. I don’t know. Before Ryan Smith got the Utah Jazz, I think he did that thing where he looked for a promo code. He got a pretty big promo code like a billion dollars off buying an an NBA team. I don’t know how you get those promo codes when you’re buying these NB NBA teams, but I guess Tom Dundan got uh two billion off or 1.2 2 and and uh and Ryan Smith got the ultimate promo code and uh got him for 2.8. But apparently he wants to keep the team in Portland, which is great. Portland has a great history. They have a title. Obviously, it’s just some incredible players have gone through there. The Drexlers, Bill Walton, Damen Lillard, and more. But really nice for Blazers fans to know that that team is going to stay there. Paul Allen talked about it, said that he had to sell the team. Uh I don’t know why I there might be news out there, but uh I guess he just decided that he wanted to make uh I don’t know if he’s a full percentage owner, but 4.8 billion pretty good selling price. He wanted to buy, you know, he was probably saving for Christmas. Had to get a few extra gifts. Okay, so the LA Clippers have now signed former Jazz guard Jason Preston. I got to say I’m happy for Jason Preston to get another chance. He gets a training camp invite, but he’s one of those guys that kind of impacts the game pretty well for the Jazz. He played for the Stars in the GLeague. Got multiple triple doubles. I had such high hopes for him when he would actually play for the Jazz and the Jazz were tanking trying to lose. So Preston got some opportunities, but when you get on the floor, he just wouldn’t make shots and I don’t know why. You know, you can see it. They just don’t go in. I don’t know. Uh, but he does have a knack for rebounding the ball. He’s a great assists guy, but he’s got to make more shots if he’s going to make it in the league. We’ll see if that happens for the Clippers. And Jason Preston, I know he’s got a he’s got a crazy background. He’s an inspiring story. Rooting for Jason Preston with the Los Angeles Clippers. All right, next. Austin Reeves reportedly wants a contract worth worth the same as Tyler Heroes. We’ve seen this now multiple times with multiple players. Uh Cam Cam Thomas in Brooklyn wants this Tyler Hero contract. Austin Reeves wants this Tyler Hero contract. I think that a lot of managers out there are pretty annoyed with the Tyler Hero contract and what’s going on in Miami because now all of them have these players using Tyler Herro as a benchmark. Uh the Tyler Herro makes around $30 million a year and that is what is what Austin Reeves wants. He is going to opt out of his player option which is 14.9. He is absolutely going to make that 30 million a year or around there. The Lakers really have to do this because outside of Austin Reeves and obviously Luca Donuch, they don’t really have a highlevel young prospect to build around with Luca Donuch. They have LeBron James in the final year of his contract upcoming and we’ll see if they they likely resign him again. I have a hard time seeing them not having LeBron retire as a Laker, but this isn’t the Genie Bus Lakers anymore. So, we’ll see what happens. But Austin Reeves, $30 million of dollars a year. I would much rather have Austin Reeves, I think, than Tyler Herro. Maybe you can let me know in the comments. Would who would you prefer? But I think if I have to pay 30 million to a player, I think Austin Reeves, that’s pretty reasonable for what he brings as as an onball, highly efficient scorer, can play off of Luca Donuch. He scores at a high level playmaker, can do a lot of different things. Not a very good defender. The that’s one of the problems. And you know, if you’re a Lakers fan, you got to be a little worried about the defense here because you’ve got Luca Donuch, who yes, he’s in shape now, but Crumble Cookies does exist and he will buy some during the season. And then you’ve got Austin Reeves, who will be coming into the season not a very good defender as well. So, there’s some weak points there for the Lakers defense, but offensively Austin Reeves does a lot of different things that are really nice. Gets to the line, all of those things. You got to keep him. result seems like a smart move for the Lakers to make sure they keep Austin Reeves. And finally, looking like a Josh Giddy contract might be coming soon for the Chicago Bulls. Uh Modus Bellis posted on an Instagram story an image that just says Josh Giddy and it has a pen emoji and a paper emoji. Now, I don’t think he’s asking Josh Giddy to draw him a picture. I wonder if this is relative or related to his contract. That’s my guess. We’re not in the picture drawing contra contest unless they do just like I actually would love to watch Josh Giddy just draw a nice picture for Modus Bouselis either a self-portrait portrait or a picture of Matus Buselis but I don’t think that’s what it is. So my guess and a lot of these players know what’s going on through the grapevine. They hear it through their agents and obviously they talk to each other very much seems like a Josh K giddy contract might be coming. We’ll see how much it is. All right, guys. That’s all I got.
