Basketball season’s still a ways away, but football season is right around the corner. Visit FanDuel.com or the FanDuel app today and start planning your future bets now. My name is Matt George. I have the privilege of being your host here. I’m a Sacramento sports anchor and reporter for ABC 10 News. And this should be like an unofficial holiday. I love how the NBA does their schedule releases. Other leagues like the NFL are definitely starting to follow suit to make the schedule release like a big event over the course of a week. And the NBA’s been dropping different things at different days from their uh opening night and Christmas Day schedule to which of course the Sacramento Kings were not on to their uh NBA Cup group stage schedule that dropped yesterday. Now it’s the real thing. All 30 NBA teams get their full schedules. It is out. And on today’s podcast, we are going to run through it all. We’re going to focus on a number of things from the amount of backto-backs the Kings have, of course, the national TV games. The Kings got way more national TV games than I expected. We’ll talk about the uh the betting odds like the overunder win total that was set for the Sacramento Kings uh by Las Vegas and what I would do. To be honest with you, at the time of starting this recording, I still don’t know what I would take uh with the uh with the overunder. We’ll look at longest road trips, longest home stands. There’s a ton to break down with this schedule here today, but I wanted to start with something that I thought was kind of funny. Like the the schedule release is is like, okay, it’s tangible. It’s real. The regular season is coming, but we got Pump Fate by our own city, the city of Sacramento. Pump Fate Kings fans. Because the other night, earlier this week, I’m at the ABC10 studios and I go outside to get something for my car and I look up and oh my gosh, there’s the beam. The beam is the beam is lit. There’s a purple light in the sky. Now, it wasn’t as bright as it normally is. Okay, maybe they’re just maybe they’re testing it. Maybe they’re warming it up, getting it all set up for the regular season. So, of course, people catch on. People start taking pictures, posting about on social media. Hey, the beam the beam is here. The regular season must be coming. It’s exciting. Hey, the beam. We missed it. It’s good to see it. Only to be informed that it was an impostor beam. A fake beam. It wasn’t the real beam. It wasn’t coming from the Golden One Center. It had nothing to do with the Sacramento Kings. No, the beam or the fake beam was coming from the state capital for something that has nothing to do with Kings basketball. I have no idea what it’s for. Some kind of political celebration or something like that. And look, I’m not one to scream about keep politics out of sports or anything like that, but hey, uh maybe maybe we don’t use the one thing in Sacramento that’s directly associated with your only major league sports team in town. And I know the A’s are here, but let’s be real. Hey, maybe maybe we don’t make a replica of that for our state capital political party thing. like light the state capital purple if you want or put like those strobe lights or what are those called the you don’t really see those anymore the spotlights that were in the sky that used to like overlap and you don’t see hell use drones I don’t care do whatever you want the beam is off limits the the beam the beam is for the kinks okay don’t be lighting the beam for your little political party shindig or whatever it is but anyway we got pump faked by the beam but now we have something real that says the Kings season is coming. It is here. The schedule is here. I’m going to be running through it. Some of the notes, some of the takeaways. We already knew this. The Kings schedule begins on October 22nd. This is where we all grown. October 22nd. It’s August 14th. Over two months away. So, we still got some time. We got some time. It’ll be here before we know it, but we got some time. But we already knew the Kings open up their season on the road in Phoenix against the Suns on October 22nd. Their home opener is the next game that Friday night, October 24th, the Kings host the Utah Jazz. Then that Sunday, two nights later, the Kings host the Los Angeles Lakers. But those are the only two home games that the Kings have in their first seven games. Five of the first seven games of the season for Sacramento are on the road after that Lakers game. They’re in Oklahoma City. They’re in Chicago on Wednesday, October 29th. That’s a big game. The Well, kind of. It’s the return to Chicago for Zack Lavine. Demar De Rozan as well. Who knows if Kevin Hurder still wants some revenge with the Chicago Bulls. I don’t know. Then the Kings are in Milwaukee on November 1st to take on the Bucks. And they wrap up that road trip on November 3rd against the Denver Nuggets, only to return home to take on the Golden State Warriors on November 5th. And after that, they have their first of their four NBA Cup group stage games against the hardest team in their group, the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Now, I made a joke about this on social media, and it’s not just to be pessimistic. Like, I think it’s it’s real. To usually get out of your group and to advance in the in season tournament, the NBA Cup, you typically have to go 4-0 in your group. And while I don’t think the Kings had the hardest group, they do have the defending champions in their group, there’s a very good chance that the Kings NBA Cup hopes could be done in one game. Now, of course, you can go three and one depending upon how everything else shakes out and because of point differential, you advance or move on. So, I’m not saying if the Kings lose to the Thunder that night, it’s over. But it could be over if the Kings lose to the Thunder that night. There are four NBA Cup inseason tournament games. Oklahoma City and Sacramento on November 7th. Minnesota, uh, the Kings are in Minnesota on November 14th to take on the Timberwolves. So, the first the hardest two opponents in their group, they have to start group stage play. Then on November 26th, they’re at home against the Phoenix Suns. And on November 28th, they will be on the road against the Utah Jazz. So, I don’t have the highest of hopes for the Kings to advance out of the group stage of the NBA Cup. By the way, none of their NBA Cup games are nationally televised, which when that came out yesterday, I was thinking, “Okay, that that sounds about right.” I was not expecting the Sacramento Kings to have a very a very welcoming national TV schedule. I didn’t think the Sacramento Kings were going to get a lot of love at all. Now, in the past, when the national TV schedule has dropped, we’ve looked for two things. We’ve looked for ESPN and we’ve looked for TNT because NBA TV existed, but NBA TV always was kind of like uh it’s like the it’s like the lowest end national TV. They kind of just take the local broadcast and put it on their na NBA TV schedule. So, it’s not it’s not the same as an ESPN or especially a TNT game, right? When the Kings were on TNT, like that’s the big deal. If you’re on TNT, you’re you’re legit. That is the that is as big as it gets. Well, of course, TNT is gone. NBC has swooped in. It’s the new TV deal in the NBA. So, I’m thinking, okay, Kings will be lucky to be on NBC like once. They’ll be lucky. I don’t think they’re going to get very many, if any, NBC games. I don’t think they’re going to get very many, if any, national TV games. Well, to my surprise, the Sacramento Kings were on national TV nine times, including five times on NBC. Did not see that coming. Let’s run through these national TV games. It starts on November 11th. The Kings and the Nuggets in Sacramento on NBC. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 8 o’clock. What? 8:00 PM. I mean, I I’m in my 30s now. Like, 8:00 PM used to be nothing. And I work like my my ABC10 schedule, I work till 11:30 at night, but starting a basketball game at 8:00 p.m., God help us. Kings nights are already late nights, but God help us. Expect that Locked on Kings podcast that night to be out like 2 a.m. I’m not even kidding with the postgame responsibilities and everything. That is their first national TV game. Their second one is on December 8th in Indiana against the Pacers against or sorry on Peacock. Then on Jan December 30th, the Kings will be in LA to take on the Clippers on NBC. The Kings will host the Dallas Mavericks on January 6th on NBC to take on Cooper Flag. The Kings will take on the Lakers in Sacramento on January 12th on Peacock. The Kings will host the LA Clippers on February 6th on Prime. The Kings will host the Phoenix Suns on March 3rd on NBC. The Kings will take on the Clippers in LA on ESPN on March 14th. And the Kings will host the San Antonio Spurs again at 8:00. De’Aran Fox’s return to Sacramento on March 17th on NBC. So, of all the national TV games, one, two, three, four, five, six of the nine are in Sacramento. Again, I don’t think this is a coincidence. Typically, when the Kings are on national TV, it’s in Sacramento. And I know the Kings product is probably not going to be the best. There might be times where it’s exciting. I think the Kings are going to be entertaining hopefully, but the NBA likes to showcase Sacramento. likes to showcase the beam, likes to showcase the energy, likes to showcase the crowd. There’s a reason why when the Kings are on national TV, the vast majority of the time, once again, it’s in the Golden One Center in Sacramento. So, I’m definitely excited about that. We still have to run through the amount of backtobacks that the Kings have. We have to run through their longest home stand, their longest road trip, both of which are in January, by the way. And we have to talk about what the win total overunder is from Las Vegas. What the number is for the Kings and how I don’t know which one to pick. Plus, I want to talk a little bit about Doug Christie and the pressure on Doug Christie in his first season as the true head coach of the Sacramento Kings. That’s all still coming here on the Locked On Kings podcast. Before that though, I want to let you know, like I said at the top of the show, that today’s episode of Locked On Kings is brought to you by FanDuel. August 26th is officially FanDuel features day. It’s a brand new holiday for football fans who live for bold predictions and for preseason hunches. For just 24 hours, FanDuel is giving you deals on NFL season predictions. You can take a flyer on whoever you believe. If you are firmly in the Brock Party camp as a San Francisco 49ers fan, hey, put Brock Party as your MVP. A lot of people think the Patriots are going to be good randomly this season. You can do that all on FanDuel. Visit the FanDuel app today and start planning your future bets now because features day is one day and one day only on FanDuel. play your game. All right, let’s keep running through this Sacramento Kings schedule. And by the way, if you’ve got your eyes on any games in particular and you want to talk about them, hit me up. Let me know. Matt George Sack on Twitter, email me [email protected]. Leave your thoughts in the YouTube comment section down below. I know some people like to go through the schedule, write like win or loss next to each one, and come up with a uh come up with a a final win total or a final record at the end of the year. if you want to do that too and share with me what your win total is. Hey, feel free to do that. Let’s talk about it. Let’s have some fun with this schedule. Backtobacks, it’s always something worth paying attention to. How many times will the Kings play on backtoback nights? Well, that number is at 14, which is actually, I think, pretty reasonable. Like, I don’t I don’t I don’t think 14 backtobacks is the biggest deal. And let’s run through those back tobacks. The Kings first backtoback is very early in the season to start that that four-game road trip that I said after that Lakers game. They have a back-to-back in OKC and then in Chicago on October 28th and 29th. They have a home backtoback against the Denver Nuggets on November 11th. That’s the national TV game followed by the Atlanta Hawks on November 12th. Again, the Nuggets game is an 8:00 tip. So, the Kings might be a little tired for that Atlanta Hawks game the next night. The Kings have a backtoback on November 19th and November 20th on the road at OKC and at Memphis. So the two times that they’re in OKC this season are both night ones of backtobacks. That’s a little rough. They have a couple backto-backs in December December 20th and December 21st 1st at home against Portland and Houston. On December 31st or excuse me, 27th and December 28th, the Kings have their back-to-back against the Dallas Mavericks and then in LA against the Lakers on January 1st and January 2nd. So, so to start 2026, the Kings host Boston and then head down to Phoenix. And then on January 11th and 12th, the Kings are at home against Houston and the LA Lakers. They also have backto-backs against Miami and Toronto at home on the 20th and 21st. That’s part of their longest home stand. We’ll talk about that in just a second. As part of their longest road trip, they have a back-to-back on January 29th and January 30th at Philly and at Boston. That’s a brutal back-to-back. The Kings have a back-to-back at home against the Clippers and Cavaliers on the 6th and the 7th of February. They’ve got a back-toback on the road at Houston at Dallas on the 25th and 26th of February. a backto-back at home on the 10th and 11th of March against Indiana and Charlotte and then the Kings have a set of back-to-backs immediately after that in LA against the Clippers and then home against the Utah Jazz. Finally, their last back-to-back is at Atlanta and at Brooklyn in March, the 28th to 29th of March. That’s their final big road trip of the season, a fivegame Eastern Conference road trip right at the uh the end of the year. So that’s the backto-back situation. As usual, the Kings are going to be one of the teams with the highest amount of miles traveled. It always happens because they’re on the coast and they’re on the West Coast specifically. The East Coast is not necessarily the same because a lot of teams are closer together on the East. In California, I know the Warriors are right up the road, but even going down to LA or Phoenix, an hour and a half, couple hour flight, right? That’s some decently miles traveled. Then the Kings, of course, have to bounce all over the West Coast and then go over to the East a couple times a year. So miles traveled is always high for the Sacramento Kings. It’s something to be aware of and to like be I get minorly frustrated about. The Lakers have the same problem. The Clippers have the same problem. The Suns have the same problem. The Warriors have the same problem. So it’s not the biggest deal in the world, but always something worth noting. All right, and now let’s talk about the longest home stands and the longest road trips again in January. So January is going to be a very busy month for the Sacramento Kings. The Kings will have a sevengame home stand from January 11th through January 21st. So, seven home games in 10 days. Goodness, it’s against Houston, against the Lakers, against the Knicks, against the Wizards, against the Trailblazers, against the Heat, and against the Toronto Raptors. Immediately after that long home stand, the Kings go on the road for six games over the span of what is that? Nine, eight, nine days, something like that. Pretty crazy. At Cleveland, at Detroit, at the Knicks, at the 76ers, at the Celtics, and at the Washington Wizards. Those are their two longest streaks of the year. Their longest home stand and their longest road trip. The rest of the season is actually pretty balanced. Of course, we do have some to be determined games as well. Games technically like 25 and 26 for the regular season will be determined based off of what happens on the NBA Cup. So, we don’t know if they’re going to be home, away, who the opponent’s going to be. That will all be determined a little bit later on. So, those are the biggest notes and biggest takeaways for me that I noticed from this Sacramento Kings schedule. Um, some obvious matchups to be excited about. Most of them are on national TV. very excited about De’Arren Fox’s return to Sacramento on March 17th. I’m mad we have to wait that long uh for that game. Cooper Flag being in Sacramento twice uh at the end of the year and technically the beginning of the year there. Dallas in Sacramento on the 27th of December and then Dallas again in Sacramento on the 6th of January. Looking forward to those games. It’s it’s exciting, right? It’s exciting for for for fans to see the opponents, see the dates, and start to mark our calendars and and get excited. But if you’re a betting man and you’re trying to predict, hey, how good are the Sacramento Kings going to be? Well, NBA regular season win over unders for this season are out. And this is via DraftKings. And I’ve seen the numbers basically being pretty universal throughout betting lines in in Las Vegas. The Sacramento Kings number is set at 35 and a half wins. So, are the Kings going to win 36 or more games or are they not? Now, when I first saw this number, my immediate reaction was the Kings have too much talent, individual talent on this roster to only win 36 games. Like genuinely, that was my reaction. I’m thinking like Demard Rosen, Zack Lavine, Demand Sabonis, even like Keegan Murray and Keon Ellis and and Malik Monk and all these other guys to some extent. Now, who knows if this is going to be the finalized roster on the the start of the season or not, but as the roster stands right now, like this team should be able to win 36 games, right? Well, you have to take into account, too, it’s a long season. And if things don’t go well, do the Kings pull the plug? Do they make some changes at the trade deadline? Do they become sellers and start shipping off some of that top talent like a Demar Rosen by the way? to start some sort of rebuild. I don’t know. I personally, not not that you should take any kind of gambling or betting advice from me because I’m by no means an expert. I would avoid this number all together. I am fence sitting to the max. I am not taking either the over or the under. I’m not doing it. I’m not touching this the Sacramento Kings over under because I don’t know what the Sacramento Kings are. My pessimism wants to take the under just because I don’t think this team is good. I don’t think they’re cohesive and I don’t think it’s going to work out. I think I don’t think this season’s going to be as ugly as it was last season. I pray to God. But I don’t think the Sacramento Kings are going to be very good. I think we’re going to get to a crossroads of this season where the Kings hopefully decide not to tank outright. But hey, let’s use this season to build towards the future and stop trying to fight our way to a plan spot. So, I guess if you have if I had to choose one, I would choose the under. Although, I think it’s going to be very close. I think this number is spot on by Vegas. I I’m not touching it. Personally, I am not touching it. Some of the other notable numbers, in case you care, the projected win total for the Oklahoma City Thunder is 62 and a half. I don’t know if I’d take the over on that. The Kings technically have four teams below them in the Western Conference in terms of uh overunder win totals. The Blazers are one game beneath them at 34 and a half. I don’t know. I think the Blazers might be better than the Kings this year record-wise. The Suns are at 30 and a half. So are the Pelicans. And then the Utah Jazz are at 18 and a half. So, looks like it’s going to be another bleak year for the Jazz over in Utah. So, you tell me if you feel confident taking the over or the under for the Sacramento Kings with that number. Let me know. Tell me why. George Sack on Twitter. Email me matte [email protected]. Leave your thoughts in the YouTube comment section down below. One thing I want to talk about before we wrap up, and this is something that we can hash out more and talk about more. Really, I could dedicate an entire episode to this and I might have a guest on to talk about this more as we get closer to the season, but how much pressure is on Doug Christie? There’s always to some extent some pressure to perform. But let me ask you this in this way. If if things don’t work out, if this team doesn’t end up being very good, are do we really think like it’s Doug Christiey’s fault? Like I’m sure he’s there’s always going to be things that he can do better. Always. and and he’s very much like learning on the fly in a lot of ways just like he was last season. I I’m not gonna really I I I might pick apart specific decisions that Doug makes like rotational decisions if he decides not to play Nick Clifford or only gives Nick Clifford a little bit of minutes instead of um more because he had to get or like if he plays Drew Eubanks uh instead of Maxim Reno. Like little things I might be nitpicky on or like when he puts Keon Ellis in the rotation, how many minutes he finds for these guys. Like those are always things that you can be critical of and talk about from a coaching standpoint. So I don’t think Doug Christie is going to be perfect by any means, but I’m like the same way I feel like when Scott Perry took this job, he should have like a two-year grace period to clean up the mess. I also kind of look at the same thing for Doug. Like I don’t think there should be any fear whatsoever. It would be a complete and utter disaster if the season ever got to a point where the Kings fired Doug. I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. Like that would be You thought I was mad when Mike Brown was fired. I wouldn’t even be mad because it was Doug Christie fired. I would be mad because once again, the Sacramento Kings just wasted their time. I’m not predicting that’s going to happen. I would be beyond stunned if that happened. I think Doug Christie has as big of a safety net as he he could possibly have and I think he should have it for the next two years regardless of how good or bad the team is. He’s going to have pressure put upon himself because he has high expectations for this self and he puts the pressure of wanting to represent this city. He wears that, right? He’s all about winning in Sacramento, giving these fans what they deserve. He has unfinished business from his time here as a player and the Kings not winning an NBA championship even though they should have in 2002, right? He is he’s never let that go. So, he’s put more pressure on himself than anyone could possibly to win right away. And that’s good. You want that from your coach. But, we should not get to any point this season where we’re like, “Get rid of Doug. He’s not the right coach.” No, you got to completely overhaul this roster before I even consider moving on from Doug Christie by any means because if and even if like again I don’t think this is going to happen. But if we got to a point this season where we start hear rumblings, oh Doug Christie has lost the locker room. Oh, these players are quitting on Doug. Oh, then get rid of the freaking players. I was saying the same thing when when some of these guys are starting to quit on Mike Brown. What the hell have they done? Like I again I don’t think that’s going to happen. I’m praying that doesn’t happen. I don’t think this season the win total might be lower and less, but I don’t think this season is going to be nearly as dramatic as last season was. Don’t think you’re going to have a disgruntled star demand like wanting out. I don’t think you’re going to have a coach firing in the middle of the year. I don’t think you’re going to have coaching staff members and and and front office personnel jumping ship mid-season. I don’t think you’re going to have a lame duck GM just counting down their days until they’re getting fired. I don’t think you’re going to have any of that this year. So hopefully the Kings aren’t a junior high again. Hopefully, you’re not going to have articles about who the owner’s daughter is dating for God’s sakes. But I don’t expect this season to be great. I’m optimistic about certain things. I’m very curious, but in no way, shape, or form should Doug Christie be on the hot seat, in my opinion, at any point this season. At any point. That was roughly one of the questions that I put out there. I put together a fan survey, a locked on kings fan survey. And if you haven’t filled this out yet, I’ll put the link on on YouTube. I’ll put the link in the comment section down below. So, you can click on the link and you can go and be a part of this fan survey. And I’m going to I’m going to log into it right now. Um, and I have 227 responses to it right now. One of the questions on there is, uh, confidence level in Doug Christie. 53.7% answered cautiously optimistic. So far, 18.5% have answered very confident. 15.4% have uh answered indifferent. 8.8% have answered worried. and only 3.5% have entered or answered not confident at all. If you want to weigh in on that plus like your thoughts on a Dennis Schroeder deal, uh, do you want Russell Westbrook on the Kings? A question about Jonathan Kaminga, your optimism level going into next year. That’s all on the Locked on Kings fan survey. Again, if you have not filled it out, I will put the link in the comment section down below and I will do a future podcast on this survey in a uh in the very near future. Also, I wanted to uh let you know that I’m coming out with an episode next that you might not be too excited about, but I encourage you to listen to anyway. Josh Lloyd is our phenomenal host of the Locked On Fantasy Basketball Podcast. I love Josh. Josh is a straight shooter. Josh Josh is blunt with his analysis and he is always very critical of the Sacramento Kings, but he provides a lot of the national perspective, good and bad, and he provides a lot of really important questions that I don’t know if I or you or the Kings really have any answers to. Josh Lloyd is going to join me on the next episode of Locked on Kings and we’re gonna just be brutally honest and look at, dissect, cut apart the Kings team, this roster, the organization, the direction, everything. It’s not going to be a bash on the Kings session or anything like that, but we’re going to be very real about the state of this organization and look at some things and try and find positives, point out the negatives, point out the things that needs to be addressed. I always enjoy chatting with Josh about the Kings, even if he brings the heat. So, that’s coming for you on the next episode of Lockdown Kings. I hope you will join me for that. Again, weigh in your thoughts on the schedule. Any win total that you have, if you take the over, the under on that Kings, a win total from from um Las Vegas, whatever you want to do, hit me up, Matt George Sack on Twitter, email me [email protected], leave your thoughts in the YouTube comment section down below, and weigh in on this locked on Kings fan survey. Appreciate you. Can’t wait to have you join me on the next next episode of Locked On Kings. Until then, my name is Matt George. You’ve been listening to the Locked On podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network.

I’m looking forward to this upcoming season with Doug Christie as head coach
I believe DC has been given a two to three year timeline to show what he has. This year is a throw all your ideas on the wall and let’s see if something surprises us.
Hope the team plays with a chip on their shoulders… LaVine can prove he's not he league's most overpaid player. DeRozan – not old and still a significant scorer/finisher. Sabonis – can be the lead on a good team. Murray – fulfill the promise he showed in his rookie year. Schroder – deserves his contract and is in the top half of PGs.
We have 14 back to backs and 5 in January alone. This is our chance to tank and Zach be the tank commander.
