Hour 2: Is BYU close to Naming a Starting Quarterback? | What do we think the Jazz’s Starting 5 w…

The sports you love. The teams you can’t live without. Sense of urgency. This is Jake Scott and Ben Anderson on 975 the KSL Sports Zone. Jake and Penn 975 the KSL Sports Zone. Join uh uh the zone at the Hansen Scotty Invitational at the Cedar Hills Golf Club. Uh they’ll be broadcasting live from the tournament coming up uh next Tuesday from noon to 3. So check out the Hansen Scotty Invitational. But yeah, Ben, I think I was profiled. Yes, I think that happened to me. Not by somebody trying to get you to buy drugs from them like yesterday. No, that was Yeah, that was yesterday’s story. You get profiled a lot for different reasons. Can I uh I made it abundantly clear that I never purchased any of the I made that clear now with your parents yesterday. Yeah. You standing next to my dad. I I didn’t say sure. Let me wait till my dad goes away. By the way, and any art dealers by any chance? Okay. This this seems like a really minimalist goal for vacations, but I’ve always set it as a goal not to get arrested on my vacation. And buying drugs from strangers seems like a pretty good way to get yourself arrested. So, that was a hard no. Hard no. Great rule of thumb. Well, no. What would ruin a trip faster than a an arrest? An arrest. Yeah. Like, not a lot. Again, it’s a pretty low bar. I know. But a death would be worse, I guess. But yeah, an arrest is a bad one. I went to Cancun when I was 18 and we you ride on the bus everywhere, as Christian knows, too. And we talked to this group of people that were in town from somewhere and they were like, “Yeah, our buddy got arrested on Tuesday.” And we were like, “Yeah, it’s like Saturday.” Well, we haven’t seen him since. It’s like, yeah, getting arrested in a foreign country even harder. They were remarkably unconcerned about their friend. I can think about no good example of why you would want to speak to your embassy in a foreign country. Right. Right. There’s either a coup going on. I mean these very simple goals like yeah I don’t want a trip to the embassy. I had a buddy my I had a buddy who was in a Central American country and fell asleep with his on a bus with his passport and wallet on his lap. And I was like I don’t care what country you’re in, you’re going to get robbed. Yeah. Right. Yeah. I will rob you if I see you on the bus doing that. But anyway, he has he told the whole story about how he has to go to the embassy and he has to get his stuff even though he has no identification whatsoever. Real nightmare. Yeah, that’s a tough one. I’m not falling asleep. Take out the wallet and the passport. I’m doing my best not to fall asleep on that bus, period. Right. Yes. Yeah. I’m staying I got to know when I’m getting off the bus. I mean, maybe it’s those crosscountry ones, but regardless, yeah, you’re not doing it with all your stuff in your lap. Bad news. Yeah. So, yeah. Amazing. Some people make it to work every day and some people don’t. It is amazing. Yeah. Some people can operate and function. This guy did a lot of international travel, too. Not the person I would peg that this would happen to. Yeah. Renowned art dealer. He does have a funny story about gambling. Well, no, we won’t tell that. I told bad enough stories yesterday. We don’t we don’t need to necessarily uh go down that road. Uh, Ben, do we uh have an equaling as to the quarterback situation at BYU? Kind of sounds like I don’t want to out anybody, but it kind of sounds like maybe as soon as next week they’ll actually just name somebody, which again or we’ll find out about it. Or we’ll find out about it. If you’re going to, you know, there was a big booster only practice last night. Availability is going on right now at BYU. There’s another practice today. I imagine getting them kind of under the lights last night was one of these final tests in the right situation. And again, I know I’ve kind of talked out of both sides of my mouth on this uh on this point specifically over the last few weeks because coaches are afraid of every team, even Portland State. But with a team like Portland State, if it’s clear you know who the number one guy is, just name him. I don’t think that’s something you necessarily need to hold off on. And credit to BYU last year, they did just make Jake Brett laugh. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t think I think we’ll find out. I think they don’t want the distraction. If anything, the one thing, you know, I don’t know if the super secretive coach like uh what kind of distraction was the camising mess, not his last year, but the year before, the year he was never going to play because his knee was was injured. You know, how much did it cost them having this circus around it? I know they were trying to rock wrong foot every team, but how much did that mess really affect the the play on the field? Maybe the answer is zero. I don’t know. You better know who you’re wrong footing. It better not be yourself. Yeah. If I’m BYU and I’m saying, “Okay, I just don’t want the circus of everybody bugging everybody about it.” And I’d rather just say this is the dude and actually go to work on a game plan as opposed to well, I don’t know. I don’t know. We’ll make the decision. Uh what was the new rule again? 3 hours before the game. Well, that’s just availability. 90 minutes before the game. That’s just availability. So, uh I I see no harm in figuring it out and letting everybody know. I really don’t. No, I’m with you. If this was a returning senior and a five-star freshman and there was a real bet of okay, are you going to play the guy who, you know, goes eight and four every year and BYU wants to take a higher a bigger step and the fivestar freshman might be able to get you there, which by the way could absolutely be the case when Ryder Lions gets here. Like let’s say Bear Bachmire wins the job, starts this year, starts next year, 2027 comes around and Bear is good, not great, and Ryder Lions is coming in. If you wanted to wrongfoot people at that point of who’s going to win the starting job, I could see it. Um, and you’re both you’re trying to just keep both quarterbacks on campus, right? You’ve developed Bear for a couple of years and then Ryder obviously is not going to want to sit behind a guy for his junior and senior season. So, you’re going to make sure he feels like he has a chance to start. Otherwise, yeah, I don’t I don’t know if there’s you gain a whole lot in this spot of who’s going to play or who’s not going to play. You know, it’s not a proven quarterback one way or another. there’s going to be question marks regardless of who steps on the field. So, just name the guy who you think is ready to go. And honestly, if it’s the freshman, they got to get the team on board. You know, not knowing the internal politics, but usually the the quarterback that’s been around longer is probably a little more popular with the team than the freshman. So, you’re going to have to get the team on board. That takes time, too. And more than your returning starter who’s been there for a couple of years with the same OC. Every rep truly does matter. every rep Bear could get, which I kind of think he’s just gonna get named the starter. That’s kind of my guess, but that’s again totally a guess at this point. Um, he’s just got to get as many reps as he can leading up to the first game. Portland State’s great opportunity from for him to play a lot, but beyond that, you know, he’s just got to he’s got to be comfortable in that role, and I don’t think you want him looking over his shoulder or feeling like he’s still competing for it the week of. Man, the problem is that the team doesn’t have the excuse, and I know we’ve talked about this, but the team doesn’t have the excuse of we’re young. No, that’s the the hard part about that. Usually, when you have a young quarterback, I I think about BYU fans and how they reacted to Gary Crotin saying, “Well, we’re young for three years.” Yeah. He’s like, “Well, we’re a young team. We’re young every year now.” Yeah. And then, you know, three years later, they’re like, “Well, that that rings a little hollow.” Uh BYU does not have that excuse at all because they’re not a young team. They’re certainly not young on the defensive side of the ball. I I’m Chase Roberts isn’t a freshman. No, he’s not. And someone’s got to be able, but man, I’m I’m a little worried about the depth running back position at BYU. They’re just thinner than they thought they were going to be. And I just, you know, LJ Martin’s been beat up most of his career. He was hurt all year last year. Ankle here, shoulder there, whatever. You know, all the little things. And that’s the life of being a running back, but some guys handle it better than others or whatever. Bodies cooperate better than others. I’m just a little more worried about BYU’s offense in general. It would be one thing if we knew LJ Martin was 1,200 yard Iron Man, Mr. Durable back there. He has the potential to be. He’s just not yet, right? You know, so I’m just a little worried that there just don’t really have like the easy easy answer to go to. And then we don’t know about the offensive line, which even if these guys are good and healthy, if the offensive line doesn’t perform to expectation, which I mean regardless probably going to be a step back from last year, just could be some could be some tough going for a little while. Could be tough hoing for for a little bit to uh to get this thing on the tracks. Uh just a little note though, I think I heard or I heard Mitch talking about the other day, I’m not sure which uh which show it was on that they’re hoping to get Hinckley Rapati back. Okay. To get clear. So maybe that’s a little uh maybe that’s a little depth at the running back position cuz they’re going to need to run the ball. I think they could tell you that regardless of of who gets the job at quarterback. And yeah, depth is a is a thing. That’s a that’s certainly a lesson uh that you have to learn in a better conference. You know, you go to the Big 12 and you have more comma better games. You have them in a row, you have several a month and oftentimes the injuries can stack up. Of course, we remember all those November uh for Utah in the Pack 12 when they first got there, and they just didn’t have enough good players by the end of the year to really be great. And I’m not saying BYU necessarily has that problem. I don’t know. Yeah. But I’m sure that’s a lesson they’ve learned going from independence certainly into the Big 12. I just it it’s so funny to see the transformation of BYU into Utah and how you could just absolutely see it a little bit. be careful what you wish for of just like a dominant defense which BYU’s defense should just rule this year, right? Great DTackles. Sounds like the defensive ends are going to be better. Linebackers are maybe as good a class as there is anywhere in the country. Corners we’ll see. Safeties will see, but they seem to have some confidence. They certainly figured it out last year. Just like an awesome awesome unit and an offense that you might be pulling your hair out in over and over where they’re just running into a brick wall. And I hope that’s not the case. And A-Rod has certainly found a way to make things happen at BYU that he didn’t seem capable of doing at Utah or allowed to do at Utah. And maybe that’s a Colani positive that that opens things up a little bit. But you just you could see that being the case this year where they just cannot move the ball consistently and so much falls on the defense to win these close games. It’s hard to do. How much toe do you think it cost to get into that uh donor practice? It’s got to be do. I mean, it’s not five figures, is it? I have no idea how many people they let in. I I would guess it depends on how many I mean, if it’s like 10 donors that get to watch the practice. Well, I think it was a chunk. I think it was a chunk. And honestly, I have not seen the reports, but I’m not going to the message boards to see what the reports are saying because it’s untrustworthy at best. But yeah, is it is it five grand? Is it a grand? Is it or I don’t know. I gotta tell you the ways in which they are figuring out to raise money. This is a smart one. Yeah, it’s a good one. You’re gonna practice anyways. Have it under the lights. Make it feel like a real game Thursday night. High school football hasn’t started yet. Did it start last night? I guess it did start last night, but yeah, go out there. This is your chance. See it before everybody. Get a little insight. Of course, they’re going to be smart enough to not to really reveal anything because they know it’s going to leak, but yeah, it’s a great way to make some money. I bet you, you know, when everybody’s lined up to go through security to get in to watch the practice, they have money sniffing dogs that sir right to the front of the line. Patrol the line and they’re like, “Hey, hey, broken. This guy’s holding out on us.” Yeah, this guy’s come on. Come on. Are those Forever 21 clothes you’re wearing? Get in the back of the line. Five grand. Yeah, right. I phto here tells me you got more. What type of watch is that? Oh, it’s a Casio. Step aside, please. We’re gonna let everyone else in for we’ll see. Did you guys see that Oklahoma is selling tickets to sit in to the postgame press conference? Well, as a media member, that’s going to be super obnoxious when that catches on. The Oklahoma Michigan game. Did you see this though? Guess how much they’re going for. How much? Take a guess. You know what? You can listen to it live on uh 975 the KSL Sports Zone. The live postgame from both BYU and Utah. So, uh, $0. If you say anything above 25 bucks, I’m going to be Yeah. Honestly, if it’s more than a $50 tackon that also comes with a free refillable Diet Coke at the game, what is it? 692. We got a new Bozo of the week. It’s the Oklahoma. It’s It’s the Whoever bought that. Yeah. Find the first guy who bought it. That’s the bozo of the week. You got ripped off by Oklahoma. Congratulations. Get exclusive postgame media access for you and one guest to see where real time reactions unfold here. U coaches and players address reporters moments after the final whistle. Let me give you a little hint. They don’t give media access. That access that you’re buying in the locker room is not access at all. Yeah. Can we lay it out? Sitting with a bunch of sweaty uh middle-aged homely people who have been at a game for three and a half hours who haven’t eaten. It’s 11:00 at night. The players are bloodied and beaten. The coach is either The coach is mad. I don’t care if he wins. The coach is mad. Usually put off by having to do it in the first place. Was absolutely stolen from us. Oh, I would have paid $600 to be in that press conference. I am not. So, and you’re sitting at a folding table smashed in. And by the way, if you’re media now, you’re in the very back of the room. You’re not asking a question. Certainly, you might get a chair. Well, it might be standing room only. And I don’t know if people know this, but there’s there’s a probability that postgame press conferences become extraordinarily uncomfortable depending on what actually happened in the game. Yeah, that Mark Harland one there. Well, that’s a great one. Yeah, that’s the one that’s worth going to. That’s deliciously uncomfortable. Uh uh I was sitting next to Gordon when Jim Boland got after him. The ball didn’t go in the hoop thing. I would pay $600 to be in that moment. the memorable ones. Yeah. Yeah. But there are some where the coach just lost and there was something Oh, the um I was in the press conference with Kyle Whittingham after the youths stormed the field three times and almost cost them the game. Like he wanted to kind of be happy, but he was not. Yeah, of course he was not. And I think he made an uncomfortable joke about playing on Sunday because the game had gone so long that it went past midnight and it was just awkward. It was just an awkward press conference or after uh the Utah BYU game where uh Andrew George is still running. I’ve never seen Whit more angry and because something happened with his family and he came to that press conference and it was not like entertaining uncomfortable. It was uncomfortable. Uncomfortable. And BYU at the time put visiting media in this dang closet so everybody’s right on top of each other. Two things I would say. One, just you don’t want to meet your idols in general. Meet them in the fan zone. Meet spend $600 to go to a fundraiser to go to whatever the Crimson Club offers are. Whatever the whatever Oklahoma’s thing is, the the Sooner group or whatever they would call it. Spend $600 and get a ticket there and meet them when they want to meet fans. Uhhuh. But seeing them like in the real environment is going to change your perspective. Not that they’re bad guys, but it’s just going to kind of take the sheen off of being a fan a little bit. And then B, the reason we play I hate Utah. I hate everything about them. I was happy to be in the Big 12. I’m not anymore. It’s because there’s like five good press conferences ever. Right. Who? Green with the Arizona Cardinals. It’s like the we let them off the hook. Most press conferences are nothing. Uhhuh. They’re boring. Coach speak. Coach speak. So true. You’re probably paying to see something that is the most unre unremarkable part of the entire night. You know what you should do? Buy a $700 dinner before you go into the game. Have the best dinner you’ve ever had in your life and then go to the game and say that was the best night. Don’t spend $700 to go watch the coach talk. No. That’s horrible money. and hang out with a bunch of media people that have very little redeeming value whatsoever. DM Venables and say, “If I give you $700, will you call me? Just give out the pay phone. Let’s just talk for two minutes.” All right, stay tuned. We’ll have more Jake and Ben on a Friday coming up next. 975 the KSL Sports Zone. Who’s got it better than us? Ben, speaking of JJ and Alex, they asked me yesterday when I came on the show to who I thought the starting five would be for the Utah Jazz next year. Uh I, you know, game one. Let me ask you this question. Who will the starting five be? And who would ideally it be if uh Austin A had everything happen in camp that he wanted it to? Keonte George the point guard. This is which one? What’s actually going to happen or what ideally would happen in a perfect world? Keonte. Both. Okay. I think the Jazz want Keonte to be good. Um, but I will hedge that by saying I think by mid-season Wall Clayton’s a Jazz starting point guard, but I do think I I just kind of get the feeling it’s gonna be Kee. Okay. I think Ace Bailey might be the two. Okay. I think Lowry might be forced to play the three, which is a little out of position for him. Uhhuh. I think Flip’s going to start at the four, and I think Walker’s going to start at the five. Okay, but if there’s an alternate, it’s Keiante, Bryce Sensabot the two, Ace at the three, Lowry at the four, and Walker at the five. And I guess if you were actually to say, what does Austin A want? He may want Lowry at the four because I think that’s where he’s best. and then you maximize him to get back into the conversation we were having earlier about maximizing his value or getting him back to where he was so you can trade him or see if he’s actually still very good. Um, when I talked to them and it just got me thinking like I said I still think unless we see something like Keonte George balls out that we’re still gonna see what we saw last year at point guard because they I don’t think they want to just hand it to Keonte. No, I agree. So, I think Collier might still be the dude because I don’t think it’s going to be Walt Clayton. I think if if Keont is gonna get back starting, he’s gonna have to earn it. And I think that’s intentional. I think they want they But that aside, I think in a perfect world, they would want Cody Williams to start at two, Ace Bailey at three, Lowry at four, and Walker at five. I don’t think Flip is a starter in the NBA yet. I don’t know if he’s ever a starter in the NBA. Well, it depends on how he guards and so I don’t know if that’s a thing. Maybe maybe it is. I’m not saying that it’s not, but uh you don’t see a lot of I mean, you don’t see a lot of players who don’t guard early in their careers guard later. I don’t think it’s a I don’t think it’s an effort thing, though. I think it’s a skill thing. Skill thing. That’s why I totally agree. You know, Devin Booker came to the league as the worst defender in the NBA and actually became an okay defensive player. Some guys figure it out and get better at it. I mean, again, no very few players come into the NBA as good defenders. There are a few, but it’s pretty rare. But do you even have the tools to do it and you just don’t know how to do it? But you have the tools. I don’t know if Flip has the tools. But I think Bryce probably would be more likely to start if they don’t do what you’re talking if Flip comes off the bench and they have Lowry at four instead of at at three because I think they want Ace to start regardless. Yes, I think Ace will start. I I think they want that. Uh, and Bryce is probably further ahead of Cody, but I think they’d rather have it be Cody, but I don’t know if he can earn that in camp. Yeah, it’s an interesting situation. It’s a good question. If if everything went right, everyone falls into place the way you would ideally hope. And the one person I will not include in this conversation is Taylor Hendricks because I just know he’s not going to be healthy enough. And I know they’re going to bring him along slowly. I’ve been told they’re going to bring him along slowly. That makes sense. I I think you’re right because if you’re talking about like what you want this team to look like in two years, I think it would be Walt Clayton. I think it would be Cody Williams. It would be Ace Bailey. It would be Walker and then yeah, probably Flip for now or or Lowry for now. Well, eventually Taylor Hendris if everything went. But yeah, eventually. I think by the end of the season, if you were to say the Jazz had a really good season, let’s say it was so good they felt comfortable moving off of Lowry, they got whatever for him. I’m not even going to insert player, but if this year goes perfectly for the Jazz, they go into the off seasonason with 22 wins. Walt Clayton’s the starting point guard of the future. Cody Williams is a two-way wing, can play the two or the three. Ace Bailey is obviously a go a guy, and I think Ace Bailey is going to be a guy. I think Ace is going to be really good. Um Taylor is back, healthy, dominant, switchable big guy as far as just like can defend all over the floor. Jeremy Grant type, you know, whether that’s an all-star or just a guy who shoots threes but is versatile defensively. And Walker is on the court, but that gives you I think Walt’s going to be a better defensive player than both Keonte and Isaiah. And he’s a better shooter. He’s probably a better shooter than both of them, which is why I think by the end of the year he starts. Um Cody’s two-way upside is just better than Bryce’s. Yes. Yes. And Bryce hasn’t shown anything defensively yet. Bryce could conceivably be a good defensive player. He just hasn’t shown it. This the ceiling feels higher on Cody. I would agree with that. Yeah, Cody is super long. He’s got a long way to go. But yeah, really thinks the game. I think he’s like I think he understands the game really well, but has some two-way potential. Ace, like we said, Taylor for his reasons. And then yeah, five is Walker. And that that way you have five guys who could probably play some defense. Like I think Ace is going to be able to play defense, too. I He’s not Flip who doesn’t have the tools to play, right? Oh, I agree with that. Like I think Ace moves really quickly. He plays really big. He’s a great leaper, long, he just that type of guy should have an impact. So I think that would be the ideal. But probably not going to be day one. No. Unless it all really goes to plan. Yeah. And it would be big jumps from like Walt Clayton quickly. The point guard one is interesting. The point guard one is the biggest question for the Jazz for sure. Well, it’s the it’s the biggest void. I mean, it you just don’t know. And that has a lot to do with Keonte, frankly, and why I don’t think they’ll just give him back the starting job because I think his thing is that he needs he needs to take the step that Walker took last year to figure out what it takes to be successful in the NBA from an effort and concentration and all the things standpoint, which I I don’t mean to come off sounding mean because I think all players have to learn that. Walker had to learn. He’ll tell you he had to learn that. And so, it is hard though and doing hard things is by nature hard. So the problem with Keonte is there’s more stuff he just hasn’t shown that you know he can do well shoot better for one. Yeah. And I I think you can shoot. Maybe he can’t. Maybe he But he like he’s not Isaiah Collier can’t shoot. Isaiah can’t make free throws. He’s not Ronnie Brewer where it’s broken and you can see it, right? I mean he’s got a smooth stroke. Like he should be able to knock down more shots. So that should start going in. And like just like the effort defensively again we talked about like Will will call him out for three games. He’s bought in. He’s making defensive plays. He’s blocking dunk attempts by Kevin Durant on fast breaks. He’s jumping passing lanes. He’s playing intuitively. All that’s there. And then he just like flips the switch off. Then it disappears and for like multiple games. Yeah. So, and you got to reach that guy. And I I said this yesterday on the afternoon, but I think it’s a good thing he’s been around. I think it’s a good thing you and I saw him at that first practice before summer league. Yeah. And he was walking around talking and I think that’s a good thing. Him engaged is how he’s going to make it. I was talking to Scotty when you were out of town a couple of weeks ago and we had that same thought. There are the weird green flags with Keonte are off the floor. Now I I’ve told you he’s red flags. Green flags. He’s a little weird in the locker room like he is. He’s just a little bit he’s kind of loud sometimes. Seems like he’s doing his own thing. Walker got on him at one point last year because he’s being like really loud after a loss and Walker was like, “Kante, we’re not doing that right now.” And I thought, a that was a really green flag from Walker. But otherwise, it’s like Keiante showing up at the ribbon cutting for the courts at Liberty Park. Being at all the summer league stuff this year when he probably doesn’t have to be, but the Jazz want him to be around. Going up to Snowbird when they were releasing the jerseys when he didn’t have to be there. He drove up on his own. Like I think there are some signs where he’s like bought into the team. Good. That’s what he needs to do. bought into being an NBA player with this franchise. He’s now he has to do it on the court. And usually it’s kind of the opposite for guys. He’s like, “Yeah, he’s really good on the court. Does he actually want to, you know, be an NBA player, much less an NBA player in Utah?” So, I think that’s where Keonte’s next step has to go. Yeah. The buyin has to show up everywhere. And I I think ideally they would want it to be him at the moment. From a full package perspective, he’s got more than Isaiah, I think. Oh, I do. Well, I don’t think Isaiah is going to figure out the shot. Yeah. So, and if it Isaiah is like the best point guard in the league or the worst point guard in the league. That’s there’s not like an in between for him. Yeah. And I would I would bet on the shot does not come around. No offense to him. No, I’m totally with you. He had a bad summer league. He had a really bad summer league. If he shot Yeah. 36 37% from three. He’s a great player. He’s your starter for sure. For a long time. Yeah. He’s a really great player. He does everything else well, but the reason he does everything else well is cuz he can’t shoot. So, he’s had to learn how to do everything else well to become a good player. But if you don’t have to guard him, he’s not your long-term solution to that position. Ultimately, and this is me again hedging my bet on Keonte showing things he hasn’t shown over his first two years. I think Walt is a he’s bigger than both of those guys. I think that’s what’s kind of hard to recognize right now. Walt is taller than Kee by a little bit. And I think the shot is real. And I think he’s a much better defensive player. He also might still be older than Kee, right? He played four years of college, so he’s probably older than both Isaiah and Keonte. He should be a little better even though he hasn’t been in the NBA. All right, we’re going to make a decision on Bozo of the week coming up next. Stay tuned. Jake and Ben 975 the KSL Sports Zone. What’s up? I don’t think you’re going to be able to keep that up by the way. Sounds like a challenge. No, it’s not. Sounds like a challenge. Because it’s already too long. What do you mean it’s already too long? It’s already too long. We can’t take up the whole segment reading the name. The bang bang bang bang. Come on, man. The bang bang bang. Come on, man. I’ve got it all on record. Astronomer, Margaret Morris, adult novelty, lobber bozo of the week. I think it’s good. I don’t know. I don’t know. We’ll see. We’ll see. We’ll see. All right. So, we have two nominees this week. Uh yeah, we have two. Two and a half. Uh no, you guys uh the silent man was eliminated. You You guys That was the cool guy of the week. You said he was that was not bozo material. Yeah, that was awesome. Uh the first nominee is Showi. show turning into a real strong man in the states just being a gangster when it comes to pushing people out of housing developments, gambling huge sums of money. The latest was $240 million development in Hawaii. That’s what he’s being sued for. So, who knows? Uh, this development h basically hired Showi to be, you know, the face of the development house here. Show lives here. he’s got a spot here. You could see him in the gym, you know, like that kind of thing. So, they cut him into the deal and then he pushed out the two developers cuz they didn’t get along with his agent or something like that. They weren’t giving him what he wanted. So, now they are suing him for pushing them out of what I’m sure they perceive as their development. The other one, bizarrely bozo behavior. Yeah, it’s weird. He’s got this squeaky clean image because I think he doesn’t talk to the media and it helps him just like not have an identity other than he’s a great baseball player. But weird stuff off the off the field. Super secretive about his personal life. And I’m I’m not saying like salacious details like the the name or image of his wife. Right. Yeah. Right. The second bozo of the week is John Matier, the quarterback at Oklahoma who fans went back through his uh Venmo and found a it was public. be the titles of the money he was sending to a Richard Roen were sports gambling and sports gambling parentheses UCLA vers USC a week a day after they played in 2022 when he was already a member of the Washington State football team and had gone through the training of you never get to gamble on college sports are you crazy and they were in the same league as and they were in the same league um here’s his response response. Quote, “The allegations that I once participated in sports gambling are false. My previous Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray po portray the transactions in question, but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends. I have never bet on sports. I understand the seriousness of the matter, but recognize that taken out of context. Those Venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches, and officials at the NCAA that I have not engaged in any sports gambling. You believe him? Uh, no. I kind of I mean, you would have to be the dumbest person alive, right, to do this inside joke-wise, like, right. So, he’s a bozo either way. That’s what’s funny about it. He’s either dumb enough to actually gamble or dumb enough to think that that’s funny. Yeah. Total bozo behavior. Dumbest person ever. Uh, I don’t know if I believe him. I don’t believe him. I I wish he would say exactly what the transaction was for. I think he knows it’s going to be hard to track and this roten guy can just say, “Oh, yeah, it wasn’t for gambling.” Yeah. And they’re never going to be able to track it down. That’s it. So, that’s the end of the story. They’re not going to be able to punish him for it. Say it was an inside joke. It wasn’t an inside joke. I think he was betting on sports, which is stupid. Like you said, if there’s a rule for it, don’t do it. That’s what the rule. Don’t break that rule. I just think he’s an idiot. Yeah, he’s kind of an idiot either way. So, who are we uh giving the award to? It’s easily John Matir. You think John Matier? I think Matier is the guy. There’s a lot less at stake. Show we’re talking about hundreds of millions of dollars. This guy paid off what, like a $20 bet or whatever. I don’t think we’ve seen Showi’s biggest mistake yet, so I’m reserving it for future future bozo behavior. Like he’s a member of the Yakuza or something. He may already be. I don’t know. But he’s I think the sports gambling his sports gambling one is way bigger than this one. This isn’t even show’s worst. Oh, sure. The fact that that he got off of that thing scotfree is a a true testament. His translator to public relations. Yeah. His translator show. Who’s the bigger fall guy? Connor Stallions or Show’s Oh, Show’s agent. Yeah, big time. Or not agent, uh, translator. Big time. That guy’s disgraced. I mean, so is Connor Stallions, but Well, that guy’s in prison. Conor prison. Yeah, Conor Stallions is very much a free man today for Yeah. in prison because of the greatest baseball player on the planet playing for, you know, the high-profile team right now. That’s a tough It’s a tough pill to swallow. I still look back at the Pete Rose tweet when that happened where he’s like, “Blame the translator. I should have thought of that. Thought of that. I should have thought of that. The bang bang bang. Come on, man. And I’ve got it all on record. Astronomer, Marker Morris, adult novelty, lobber sports gambling in parentheses. Bozo of the week. Yeah, that’s going to have to stop at some point. At some point. We’ll see. What year are you thinking? 2028. No, like like this week should be the last one. We’ll see. Christian, I vote John Matir. Oh, he wants to know whether I want to know. We need to eliminate the name. Uh, I’m curious to see how far Ben can take it. Oh, I’m not not in the slightest. I’m sure he could take it as far as he wants to go. I’m sure we could take up five minutes of him reading uh reading off the I think you wanting to shorten the name makes you the early front runner for Bozo of the week next week. August. Just eliminate the name, not shorten. I don’t know. Bozo of the week is nice and bozo of the week is already the name. It’s a little park silly for me. Not quite into it. We have a song about it. Yeah, we do. A good one. We have to might We might have to do another one. Maybe we’ll come up with a different one. I told you I had the vision for a different type, but I just couldn’t pull it off. Yeah, right. You did. The band couldn’t quite quite hit the right notes. Couldn’t quite come together. What’s the band’s name? Mute of Malice. Right. Isn’t that what your name is? Mute of Malice. Yeah. Not in the right headsp space. No, they just weren’t they couldn’t couldn’t quite get there. Couldn’t quite get there. Is this unanimous though? Are you voting mater? I’m with Ben though. I think show is a absolute villain. Yeah, I think he’s a villain. And we don’t know and we’re going to see what Yeah. Who defers that much money, right? Yeah. There’s something going on there. Something going on big time. All right, stay tuned. H and Scotty G are coming up next. Thanks, Christian. We’ll talk to you on Monday, The Jacob Men Show, 975 VKSL Sports Zone.
