Miami Heat Trade Haywood Highsmith To Brooklyn Nets

Miami Heat Trade Haywood Highsmith To Brooklyn Nets

Yo, what’s going on guys? I don’t know if you were aware, probably are if you’re watching this video. Let me read you the news. I also just had the heat send me the exact notification from the PR team from Michael Scott and Mr. Sham Shrani of ESPN. The news is that the Brooklyn Nets have officially acquired forward Heywood Highmith, who did recently hurt his knee from the Miami Heat and the Miami Heats 2032 second round draft pick in exchange for the Brooklyn Nets 2026 second round pick, which is protected from 31st overall to the 55th selection. Now, this is going to do multiple things. First off, Hwood Highmith is on an expiring $5.6 $.6 million contract, including the $ 122.1 million Cam Thomas free agent cap hold as well as them signing their players. The Brooklyn Nets are $22 million below s, you know, the salary cap, and they have until October 21st to reach 90% of it. Brooklyn still has to sign Don Sharp and Zier Williams. Both players agreed to a 2-year $12 million contract in the early part of free agency and the qualifying offer for Cam Thomas is $6 million. So if we look at the heat now post Haywood Highmith trade Tyler Hero Noran Powell Andrew Wiggins Bam Adabio Kalo Wear Davon Mitchell Terry Rosier Kasparis Yakunis Simone Fonteo Simone Fonteo from Piscata which is where my grandmother was from Pella Larson you know Keshan George oh my god I said Keshan George Keshan Johnson I just butchered right there because I started looking at this note on Pel Lararsson’s contract I did not know Pel Larson’s contract is only partial partially guaranteed. Yeah, I thought that was a fully guaranteed because they liked them so much. Nicole Yoic as well as Haime Hakez, they are a team that is now below all right below the second apron which is huge huge for this team. And to me, I think being a team that is below the second apron, I believe now this pushes them below the first apron with the first apron being at 195.9 and I think this is their projected salary of 186.4. So they created some room between the apron. So shout out the Heat for doing that. The Nets maybe they keep Mr. Haywood Highmith and see once he comes back from his knee surgery if he’s going to be good. I’m gonna pull up right now what the the the Heat have said in the email. The Heat trade Haywood Highmith. I as we mentioned, it’s a 2032 second round pick going to Brooklyn in exchange for that 2026 pick that we just mentioned. As you guys might have known, the Heat originally signed Hey Haywood Highmith in 2021. Spent four seasons in Miami, making the postseason every year. In 74 games, 42 starts last season. He averaged six and a half points, three and a half rebounds, one and a half assists in 25 minutes a night, shooting 46% from the field. and he could be bought out, could be brought back. See, if he comes back from the knee injury and is rehabilitated to a point where that they could maybe flip him for to a team that might want him, that’s still something that could be considered. I think that’s a little bit less likely than likely. I do see it more that comes back from the knee injury, plays well, teams are going to be like, why would we trade it? because we know if we don’t trade for him, you guys are going to be forced to buy him out and then we can just sign him for free. And that’s a lot of the times what happens where people just go like this is a game of chicken where you’re just staring at each other and there. But again, for the Heat it was just getting below that first apron and for the Nets, it’s they get themselves a second round pick and a player that could help the locker room as this is like not it’s a weird roster construct, but it’s not like the world’s worst roster. So to me, if you’re a Brooklyn Nets fan, you know, this is just Shawn Marks doing salary cap gymnastics or well, the Heat doing salary cap gymnastics and Shawn Marks taking advantage of a team needing to place to dump salary and being compensated for said dumping. And that’s kind of like the what you have to do if you’re a team looking to improve and make moves around the margins while you’re rebuilding. You’ve seen the Washington Wizards, who are Oklahoma City Thunder, former Thunder executives running that. that that’s how like the best rebuilds are done is that if you can take advantage of the moves around the edges and improve the team in whatever you see fit or whatever seems fit at that time and is going to allow you guys to develop talent because the other thing is is even if they keep Mr. Haywood Highmith who shout out he’s from Baltimore and they he ends up being like maybe an integral part to this team more than any of us ever imagined. It’s going to be way more likely that that happens as a result of taking a swing on this where maybe they extend him to a deal like they did to Zier Williams and Don Sharp who are two guys that we thought weren’t going to come back and in the end, you know, they both come back and they could be guys that they value or maybe that they just want to flip down the road. And those are things that as a general manager, you bring back maybe Haywood Highmith on a 2-year, $15 million deal next off season and then at the deadline, you flip him for two two seconds or even a protected first. And the fact that that it only costed you a first to begin with, that’s a win, right? because now you’ve been able to take a flyer on what might be a reclamation project and I think it’s smart because you’re you’re basically taking little to no risk and could be rewarded for it. And Brooklyn is obviously someone that right now I’m reading that Sean Shirani said Brooklyn has remained active in trade compensations as the league’s only team with raining significant cap space takes high in with an unprotected second rounder. Nets have also acquired two first in this offseason to add to the most first and second round picks in the league. And again look it was all about the he trying to lessen their salary cap as we mentioned to get below the apron. And that’s what they achieved. And the the Nets were able to rent their cap space to a team that needed it. And that’s the where we where we are in how just just the the free agency shenanigans and everything go. And I think that’s just a smart move because they’ve been able to continue to to maximize what needs to be done and make their their teams their team better. So yeah, that’s basically going to be it for me, guys. I hope you guys did enjoy as I’m like looking over here trying to get to the screen. I know we’re at the end of this video. Heywood Highmith, a guy who can guard multiple positions, one through three, maybe some one through four. He’s a guy who can play big two guard, more of a three and small ball four at times, but he’s more just a pure wing. So that’s kind of where we had a little video right here. I want to hear your guys’ thoughts down below in the comments section. What do you guys think of the depth charts for both teams? And do you think it’s worth the flyer? First off, do you think the Heat are going to regret it? But do you think it was worth the Nets taking this flyer? But yeah, I think it was one of those deals where obviously the apron is always going to play a factor in some of these moves. And I think right here it’s one of the an apparent one, but it’s the type of move you need to do if you’re trying to on both sides of the barrel. If you’re trying to continue to be a playoff team like the Heat are and you need to get under that apron while the Nets, you are able to take advantage of the leverage you’re created by having the cap space to cash in and get some assets. So that’s it. J.

The Brooklyn Nets have acquired Haywood Highsmith and a 2032 second-round pick from the Miami Heat in exchange for a protected 2026 second-rounder, per Shams Charania. Miami sheds Highsmith’s $5.6M expiring deal, moving $4M below the luxury tax and $9.5M under the first apron hard cap, while creating a $5.6M trade exception.

For Brooklyn, this move uses their remaining cap space strategically. They now sit $22M below the salary cap (including Cam Thomas’s $12.1M free agent hold) and have until October 21 to reach 90% of the cap. The Nets still need to finalize deals for Day’Ron Sharpe and Ziaire Williams (both agreed to 2-year/$12M contracts earlier this offseason) and must address Cam Thomas’s $5.9M qualifying offer.

Brooklyn continues to stockpile picks, adding two first-rounders this offseason and holding the most total draft picks (firsts + seconds) in the league.
