Arizona Basketball legend and Spurs TV analyst Sean Elliott talks about rookie Carter Bryant
And of course, we can’t talk to Shawn Elliot without talking a little hoops. He’s entering year 25 as the Spurs TV analyst. This year, he’ll cover another former Wildcat, Carter Bryant, who was drafted by the Spurs 14th overall in June. I’ve been an analyst longer than I’ve been a player. As a matter of fact, a lot of the young guys that come through the organization, they have no idea that I was a player. You know, they just think I just think I’m a a tall analyst. You got to set them straight, right? Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes I got to, you know, let them know. got to point up to the Raptors and say, “See that jersey up there?” Yeah, I played here a little while ago. So, uh, but yeah, I mean that that’s just the nature of it. But yeah, I’ve had a great time, uh, being the analyst. What was your reaction when the Spurs drafted Carter Bryant? Oh, well, I I was thrilled. I mean, I was almost as excited as when we we won the lottery and got Victor Inyama. You know, I got to interview him and learn more about him when he got to San Antonio, and he’s just a great human being. uh he’s already ingrained himself with the fans. The fans love him already. Everything that he does and is going to do for the deaf community is going to be absolutely huge. And so he’s he’s a spur, Jenny. He’s the type of guy that the Spurs organization uh is proud to have in their fold. Just a great young man that a lot of fans can point to their kids and say, “That’s the type of role model I want you to follow.” How does Carter’s style of play fit with the team? Well, it’s funny because when I interviewed him, uh, he said that he got tired of people comparing him to me at Arizona. So, I I thought that was funny. Uh, I I think he’s the the the type of guy where um he’s going to do whatever you ask of him. Uh, he’s he’s going to park his ego. He’s going to go out there and try to become a better player every single day. And he’s going to defend. uh he can shoot the ball. He has all the makings and potential of being a star. That’s that’s going to be up to him. He’s going to have to put the work in, but it’s all there. The ingredients, the size, the athleticism. I when I see him get off the ground, uh I look back and go, you know, I thought I was athletic way back in the day. This kid is way, way more athletic than I was. It’s going to be fun watching Bryant develop as an NBA player.
All-time Arizona Basketball great, NBA Champion and Spurs TV analyst Sean Elliott says Carter Bryant has the makings of a star.
