Lakers Haywood Highsmith Trade With The Brooklyn Nets & Miami Heat Needs To Happen
What’s going on everyone? So, we have a trade involving the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets. So, per Shams, the Miami Heat have traded Haywood Highmith and a 2032 second round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for a protected 2026 second round pick. So, you have uh Hayward Highmith who is uh basically just a salary dump, right? Miami is trying to get under the tax even further now. Um and doing this trade makes it happen. So, Brooklyn, they have all that cap space. they’re willing to take him on. He’s making $5.6 million this year. Um he’s also an expiring contract, so it’s not something where, you know, they’re taking on a long-term deal or anything like that. Uh and they get second next year for those purposes. And then, like I said, you have a protected second that, you know, probably might not even end up getting conveyed. But this is more so just salary dump from Miami. Right now, the reason I’m talking about this on a Lakers channel, because it’s like, Tyler, what does that have to do with the Lakers? Uh Haywood Highmith is somebody that myself and many of you have mentioned about the Lakers potentially looking to go and acquire. Obviously the Lakers were uh linked to an Andrew Wiggins. I wonder if this like completely takes Andrew Wiggins off the table. We’ll see. Time will tell. I think that really boils down to how good or bad is Miami, right? Miami is not very good. I could see them being like, “All right, let’s get off of Andrew Wiggins and making that move.” Um, but now that you have uh Heywood uh Highmith uh with the uh you know the Brooklyn Nets, I think that it’s something that maybe be easier to make that type of trade and move. We know that Brooklyn and the Lakers, they have a relationship, right? Sean Marks and and Rob Pelinka, they have a good relationship. So maybe you could pull something off to where you can make that type of trade. I mean, in a perfect world, could you do like if if the Nets are open to a salary dump trade, could you maybe do something where, you know, you’re sending Gabe Vincent, getting back Hayward, uh, Highmith, uh, and then clearing like, you know, 5 million off your books, right? They were just willing to do that. Like, would they take on an extra 5 million? What would you have to give up? I would get like if we could do Gabe Vincent right to to them for and say a second round pick our 2032 second round pick. Um, I wouldn’t even hate giving up like a pick swap, you know, like I’m not giving up a first or anything like that. You know, if you could pull something like that, maybe even a more expanded trade, right, to where you’re including Dalton Connect, right? Like, you know, maybe get another piece from Brooklyn. But point is, like if you could do like a salary dump trade and bring in a uh Hayward Highmith, I would love that. Um, or you know, even just like a normal trade. The problem is you can’t like even if you wanted to like say swap Dalton Connect for Highmith, you wouldn’t be able to do that cuz Highmith is making about a mill 1.6 million more than Dalton Connect. So even if you just wanted to like do that kind of trade and swap, but Highmith is somebody that I would love to see the Lakers maybe go look to go and acquire. Now for those because there might be some I can already see the comments in my head of people that like see why couldn’t the Lakers get Highmith? You could have traded with Miami Fred. Again, this was Lakers don’t have the salary cap space to just absorb a Heismith, right? But this is probably also better because Miami is probably not as inclined to help the Lakers as a Brooklyn Nets team is. Brooklyn doesn’t care and they’ve helped the Lakers in the past, right? And again, you usually trade with the teams that you’re you’re comfortable with, you’re familiar with. Talk about Highmith. He’s 28 years old. He’ll be 29 in December. So, he’s still on the right side of 30. He’s a guy that, you know, 6’5 with a seven foot wings span. So, he’s got the size, the length, the versatility to defend multiple positions. Um, you know, kind of give you that one through three defensive piece. Uh, give you some, you know, that three andd style shooter and scorer and and even a guy that can make the occasional plays and stuff. You look at last year, he averaged six and a half points, three and a half rebounds, and one and a half assists. But also three-point shooting wise, he’s a career 37.4% 4% three-point shooter and last year was 38.2% on 3.1 attempts. So again, gives you like a legit 3 and D style guard wing that you can put out there, deploy, put him in your starting unit. I mean, you could go with like Marcus Smart at your point, Highmith at your two. Kind of gives you another alternative to maybe like a Matis Styel. Um, I mean, you could even argue uh bringing him in because of the health factor, right? Highmith played 74 games last year and 66 games the year before that. Um I mean you could keep going on. Played 54 games the year before that, right? 19 games in 2021 2022, but that’s cuz he was like just coming into the league and stuff. Um he was playing another pro leagues before that. His rookie season was 2018 2019 uh with Philadelphia, then was out of the league playing in other pro leagues for a couple years, then went to Miami and he’s kind of evolved in Miami. Um, you know, and there’s, of course, there’s always the concern, especially with the Lakers of like the the the Miami guards coming to the Lakers, right? Kendrick Nun, uh, a Gabe Vincent, but he’s just bigger, right? like Kendrick Nun and Gabe Vincent both were like 62 63 guards where he’s a guy again even if the offensive versatility isn’t there even him being able to knock down the three ball because we’ve seen guys just completely forget how to shoot the three ball when they come to Lakers even if that happens he’s still a good versatile defender that has the size I mean his comps as far as like the defensive side of things and stuff like that is very similar to a Matis Dable both guys 6’5 with seven foot wingspans or I think it’s like 11 and a half wings spans but or six 11 and a half wings spans. So again they both have that similar size and I mean even if you pulled this trade off right you could still go trade for Matis Dable and Robert Williams and might even give you more leverage in order to do so. Right? Because it’s like hey we just got somebody that can play the Matis Dable role for us but we’d still love to have him cuz we can’t. I mean, I mean, look at OKC. They’re a bunch of 63. Imagine having three, three to four, six, you know, five to six, seven versatile kind of guard wings that all have like seven foot wings spans and stuff, right? Imagine like I would still go get Matis Dable if you can. Imagine having Marcus Martin, Matis Dyel, and and Highmith out there all being able to switch one through three and defend one through three. And you can throw Jared Vanderbelt out there and all that stuff. And if all three guys can knock down the three ball with consistency, like watch out. Lakers could all of a sudden be one of those teams. This is Highmith is one of those pieces. I’m not looking for him to come in and be necessarily a starter or anything like that. A guy that you play 40 minutes a night, but he’s a guy that I do think could be a real rotation piece. A guy that could come in, knock down the three ball, give you a 3 and D win, you know, guard Wayne that really can help kind of again elevate the Lakers. It’s all of the like I’ve talked about all the combinations. You can have Luca who’s, you know, uh, ready to go and healthier and and motivated and all that stuff. And then you add in, uh, Marcus Mart, DeAndre Aton, Jake Laravia, and then you add in, you know, now they’re your chemistry, coaching, this, and then you add in Highmith, right? That could be the piece that now because again, don’t underestimate the value of one to two quality guys. Heismith is a guy that come in and be that quality guy. A guy that come off the bench is comfortable coming off the bench, give you 20, 25 minutes a night, knock down the three ball with some consistency, defend multiple positions with that wingspan. He can even switch on fours on many nights. Just gives you another big versatile defender. Even if he’s just even if he gives you what Gabe Vincent gives you, right? I’m fine with that because he’s a bigger Gabe Vincent, right? So even if he’s not like let’s say the three-point shot isn’t falling and he’s like Gabe Vincent he’s like 35% instead of 38 39%. He’s still a bigger more versatile defensive guy where Gabe Vincent again is like 6’3 with I think like a 66 wingspan something like that where you have a highmith who again is 6’5 so just naturally two inches taller and then has that 7 foot wingspan so it just gives you more length size versatility on the defensive side of things. And now that he’s on Brooklyn, it might actually be a lot easier to go and trade for him in order to pull that off, right? Because where Miami, Miami, you know, like Pat Riley is not really trying to help the L. He’s not trying to help LeBron especially like try to win another championship. Brooklyn, they don’t care. They just want to get assets and do whatever. So, to me, I look at it, can you do maybe a salary dump trade? Uh, and try to get off of some salary and give up some assets, but also bring back Heismith because I’ve talked about I don’t want to see a salary dump just for a salary dump. I want to get a player back in return. Highmith could be that player. You bring him in off of the salary dump, clear some salary space to sign some other guys, and then boom, we’re in business, right? Like, that’s the kind of move, that’s the kind of play that I’d like to see the Lakers kind of make. But what does Highmith bring? What could he do for a Lakers team? Well, you look at last year, like I said, 74 games played, 42 games started, 24.6 minutes per game, so just under 25 minutes per game, 5.3 field goal attempts per game, shot 46% from the floor, um on from three-point range on 3.1 attempts, shot 38.2%. The previous year on three attempts shot uh just under 40%, 39.6%. So, last two years he has shot 38% or better um from three-point range. That’s a great sign. Like I mentioned, for his career, he’s a 374% three-point shooter on 2.6 attempts. So, just under three attempts. So, again, a guy off the bench that can knock down a couple threes a game. Perfect. That’s all you need. Uh two-point range, 2.1 attempts, shot 57% from the field last year. EFG of 57.2% 2% uh free throw shooting on not a ton of you know free throws because he’s shooting primarily threes but on 6 attempts shot 72.1% from the free throw line grabbed 3.4 rebounds one and a half assist a steal half a block and 6 and a half points per game if you look at his per 36 which doesn’t tell you everything but kind of gives you an idea if he was a full-time starter he would have been 10 points five rebounds 2.2 two assists, one and a half steals, and a block per game. Again, gives you a guy that gives you some defense, gives you some versatility out there. You know, he’s not a young piece to where, you know, Brooklyn is is likely going to to want to keep him long term or anything like that. They pro if they can turn him into an asset or a young player like a Dalton Connect or something like that, maybe you can make that happen. Again, maybe you’re kind of doing a more expanded trade uh to where you’re landing another piece or two on top of Highmith and sending out Gabe Vincent and Dalton Connect um or doing that salary dump trade. Lakers need to get involved in the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat Trade. Lakers Trade for Haywood Highsmith could be exactly what this team needs in a versatile defensively piece that Lakers Nation could use. Lakers News of landing Highsmith could be a difference maker.

Miami now has 2 open roster spots. They can now do Rui, Gabe and Knecht for Wiggins
Stop with the pick swaps man, if the lakers give up future swaps like in 28 etc we have no idea what can happen in 3 years, look at the Celtics and the pacers. 1 injury and that swap is a top 10 pick in any year, the last 2nd sure cause the lakers buy 2nds anyway.
And cue the crackhead. Lmao the Lakers arent getting Highsmith.
Pat Riley refuses to give us a reasonable price for Andrew Wiggins so instead salary dumps a good role player for a 2nd round pick to get under the apron. Fairs the hate watch is just getting started.
Highsmith is quietly one of the best on-ball defenders itl and a capable 3-point shooter.
He also scales up and down his minutes with ease and no real dip in his play
He should absolutely be someone the Lakers look at trading for right now
Why the f are you so excited?
We should definitely try to trade Gabe and a 2nd for him. Gives us a great 3-D wing while also enough room To sign another player to a minimum like A Thomas Bryant/Trey Lyles.
Get Haywood highsmith and Dayron sharpe for Gabe Vincent and DK plus pick swap ! After that get Amir Coffey ! 🎉😅
Yea we should get him fasho
Highsmith is currently injured. He has a knee injury. Do not want any guards that came from the Miami Heat. We have been down that road before. Been there and done that.
Trade everyone for anyone.
Miami wants Rui, Dk and 10 1sts for Wiggins but sells Highsmith to the Nets for a protected 2nd rounder😂
yep agreed
Brother stop posting fuckery everyday
Nah nets wanna keep him
Hey Tyler like maybe around the trade deadline if KCP gets bought out think the Lakers should try and get him back
Come on tylerr Lakers will not make a trade anymore rob pelinkka said they will not trade their glorious role players like Gabe and vaando pelinkka would love to watch Gabriella Vincent doing cardio every game and don't forget he loves to watch Jarred Vanderbilt defense but brick layups that's rob all wants
I would rather trade Maxi and 2nd for Highsmith. There are plenty of bigs that Lakers could sign
What is wrong with you? Every player it seems you want to go to the freakin Lakers!!!!!!
Lakers should go after Dillion Brooks
No Heat 🚫
