What the San Antonio Spurs just did is INSANE – Forcing the Entire NBA to Rethink the Game Itself!

Welcome to NBA Hoops, where legends are made, rivalries ignite, and every buzzer beater writes history. Step into the heart of the game. This is more than basketball. This is NBA hoops. It was a surreal and special opportunity for Victor. Victor Wimyama led the Spurs to consecutive wins. We should just call that the WBY. Yeah, that’s at this point blocks. It’s not a block anymore. Now it’s statistically it’s called a WBY. Since the start of February, Wemby has increased his assists, block shots, and three-point shooting, averaging a league best 4.1 blocks per game. In this time, he’s also, watch out everybody, shooting 43% from three. So, Kendrick Perkins, I think it’s time for a little I know it’s incredible. I think it’s time for a word of the day. It’s been a little bit on the tear Victor’s been on. what you got over the past, you know, since the All-Star break, when I’m talking about dominating on both ends of the floor, he’s been doing just that in that matchup against Czech a couple of games ago where he dominated when they was back at home. Look, Victor Wimble is not only making the case for himself far as being the rookie of the year, that’s a for sure. But when it comes to leading the league and blocks Malikica right now, I got Rudy above him and I know the Spurs state defensively. But individually what this young man is doing. God bless America. Yeah, it really has been inab uh he had a stretch actually in the third quarter. Well, I took French classes when Victor was coming into the league. I was like, you know what? I’m going to take a couple of French classes. And um there’s a stretch in the third quarter though. He had a three, a block, a steal, an assist, all within like a minute, less less than a minute. He’s just showing that he’s willing to do every single thing. You know this system. You know Greg Papovic. You won a title with the Spurs in 2014. How do you assess the way that he’s fitting in with this group in this system? He’s doing obviously Pop is a genius at I guess bringing guys along and kind of, you know, he’s the pro at load management. You know, he took him on minute restriction starting to take him off a little bit, but he’s helping him develop. Um, but this system, this situation is a perfect situation for him to grow. you know, any other organization. I don’t know if he’d be here. Um, but I said a lot of people expected great things. Some people thought he’d be bull. I think he’s exceeded my expectations. And not no disrespect to BOB. We don’t diss on this show. He’s one of Perkins favorite players. Nothing short of, you know, amazing for a rookie season. He’s he’s playing unbelievable. Uh, and Cray, however you want to say it. Good job. But, um, yeah. So, Pop has done an amazing job of keeping him load management, bringing him along slow and surely, but most rookies hit a ball. He’s taken up notch and and making statements. He’s not only playing well and dominating his matches, but he’s helping them win some games. His usage rate for a rookie is just off the charts. He’s getting a lot of reps as the number one guy. But like you said, it’s not necessarily leading to winning. It is though. I think it’s a good time for these winning habits to be being built towards the end of his rookie season because now the Spurs are getting a real idea of what they have and frankly what they don’t have. They said they’re going to be patient building around Victor, but Victor isn’t that patient. I think the rest of the league has started to understand that now in the best way possible. So what does the timeline look like now? I don’t want to hear that word anymore. Timeline patience. Like Damen Lillard when he asked for a trade from Portland had an interest in going to the Spurs. Okay. He had an interest there was a fascination with Wemby hadn’t hit the league yet, but there was a fascination with him and there was a respect for Greg Papovic and there but there was not really any traction on trading for Dne because Victor is so young and they have a young team and they want to see that develop. Victor’s here. Victor is ready to win. And I I I know they have this idea that they’re going to take two, three years and find the right core and they’re all going to be on the same timeline, but I don’t know how patient he’s going to be because when I watch him play, that man is competitive. He wants to win. And how long do you give him, Lea? Year, two, a year max. Because I I don’t think he wants to sit here and be at the bottom of the lottery standings. He may not be patient, but he he won’t have a choice because it’s really up to Pop in organization. He’s going to have to wait. He has It’s obviously his turn, but he’s going have to wait until they get the pieces they can get for him. There are players around the league who would love to play with him. What’s the space perk? Man, Victor don’t have to be patient and wait on nothing. He’s the greatest prospect ever. Look, for the first time, the pressure is on Greg Papovic and the San Antonio Spurs. They better get them pieces around him, man, because this kid is different. He’s thinking different. He has an old soul. He’s about winning now. He’s not trying to lose. Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up because we’re diving into the phenomenon that’s shaking the NBA to its core. Victor Wimyama, the 7’5 French freak of nature, isn’t just playing basketball. He’s rewriting the rule book. They call him Wimi. But let’s be real, he’s the alien. A oneofone talent who’s turning blocks into a stat we now call the Wembley. Since February, this 21 one-year-old has been a walking highlight reel, averaging a league best four one blocks per game while shooting a scorching 43% from three, yes, you heard that right, a seven-footer reigning triples like Steph Curry and swatting shots like Dembbe Mutumbo. Kendrick Perkins is screaming from the rooftops. This kid’s the future and the numbers back it up. 24, four points, 10 eight rebounds, three nine blocks per game in 2024 to 25. This isn’t just a rookie season, it’s a revolution. But how did this kid go from a hyped up prospect to a game changer who’s got the league on notice? Let’s talk about the mastermind behind his rise. Enter Greg Papovic, the Yoda of the NBA. A five-time champion who’s seen it all. Pop’s not just coaching Wimi, he’s sculpting a masterpiece. From minute restrictions to carefully crafted game plans, Papovic has turned San Antonio into the perfect laboratory for Webyama’s growth. In 2024 to 25, Wemi played 46 games, averaging 33 2 minutes, 24 three points, and 11 rebounds. All while leading the league with three wheat blocks per game. Pops genius. He’s letting WBY be WMBBY, unleashing his guard-like skills while anchoring a defense that’s starting to scare opponents. Without Pop system, would be this dominant? Some say he’d be another bowl stuck in a lesser organization, fading into obscurity. But in San Antonio, he’s thriving. And the Spurs are building winning habits, even if their 34 to 48 record doesn’t scream dynasty yet. But hold up. Web is not just a product of coaching. His off season was straight out of a Hollywood script and it’s raising some eyebrows. Let’s dive into the wild world of Wemb’s preparation. Picture this. Victor Webyama, the NBA’s tallest superstar, trading dunks for kung fu kicks in a Shaolin temple in China. Yes, you heard that right. He spent 10 days training with monks, mastering a thousand kicks a day to sharpen his mind and body. And get this, he mixed in lightning chess to train decision-making under fatigue. Who is this guy? But here’s the gut punch last season. A blood clot in his shoulder had Wem staring down the end of his career at just 21. He told Leip. I thought it could all be over. That fear drove him to the monastery, to the chessboard, to a level of discipline we haven’t seen since. Kareem Abdul Jabbar trained with Bruce Lee. Coincidence? Or is Wemi channeling a legend? Now fully cleared, he’s back with a vengeance and the league is trembling. Wemb’s back, stronger than ever. But the Spurs just made a move that’s got everyone scratching their heads. Is this a stroke of genius or a recipe for disaster? Let’s break it down. The Spurs are rolling the dice and the stakes couldn’t be higher. They’ve built Wemby’s supporting cast in the weirdest way possible. Three ball dominant guards who can’t shoot threes. De’aran Fox, acquired in a blockbuster trade, is an all-star with lightning speed, but a shaky 35, 1% from deep. Stfan Castle, the 2024 to25 Rookie of the Year, shoots a dismal 30, 7% from three, and now they’ve drafted Dylan Harper, the no two pick in 2025, who’s got a silky handle, but a concerning 36, 8% from deep in college. Why stack three slashers who clog the paint when Wembby needs space? Critics are screaming, “This is a disaster.” The Spurs three-point percentage ranked 20th in the league last season at 35 500C. Yet, they locked Fox into a 4-year, $229 million deal, banking on his playmaking to unlock Wimi. Is this a bold new blueprint or a catastrophic misstep? The Spurs got lucky with a 6 3% chance at the noway two pick. But will Harper’s fit throw a wrench in Wemby’s dominance. So is this guard heavy experiment a problem? Or is so unique he’ll make it work? Let’s talk about why he’s shattering every big man blueprint in history. Victor Wimyama isn’t just breaking records, he’s breaking basketball. Historically, big men needed shooters and a playmaker to shine. Think Shaq and Kobe, Hakee and Clyde, Duncan and Parker. But WBY, he’s a cheat code. At 7 foot5 with an 8-ft wingspan, he’s dropping three one threes per game at 35 2% while leading the league with 176 blocks in just 46 games last season. He’s the only player ever, ever with multiple games of 20 plus points, 15 plus rebounds, five plus threes, and five plus blocks. Against the Wizards, he torched them for eight triples. Against Cadet Homegrren, he owned the paint. We doesn’t need a traditional setup because he is the setup playing at guard speed, spotting up from deep and protecting the rim like a fortress. So what if Fox, Castle, and Harper aren’t elite shooters? Wemb’s the spacer, the creator, the defender. This roster might just be crazy enough to work. But here’s the real question. Can Wemby carry this unorthodox roster to the playoffs, or will the Spurs gamble, crash, and burn? Let’s look at their wildcard potential. The Spurs are the NBA’s biggest wild card in 2025 to 26. With We Wy, Fox, Castle, and rookie Dylan Harper. They could be a top four seed in the West or miss the playoffs entirely. Fox’s speed and Wembley’s size could form a deadly one-two punch, pushing the pace while We Wy trails for threes or anchors the rim. Add Castle’s lock down perimeter defense and they might crack the top 10 defensively. But here’s the kicker. Harper’s the X factor at 66 with a bully ball style. He’s a wild card who could either clog the offense or explode for 20 in a playoff game. Meanwhile, the Lakers are building a dynasty around Luca Donuch. And LeBron James is reportedly furious about losing control in LA. Weby’s not here to wait. Perkins says he shouldn’t have to. This kid’s wired to win now. With Papovic under pressure to deliver the Spurs, the clock’s ticking and the NBA’s dynasties are circling. Will Wem Spurs rise? Or will Luca’s Lakers steal the throne? The future’s unwritten, but one thing’s clear. Webyama’s rewriting history. Victor Weimyama isn’t just a player, he’s a revolution. The Spurs gamble could either spark a dynasty or implode under pressure. Willy’s otherworldly talent overcome a questionable roster. Or will impatience derail his quest for greatness?
